      Good morning Abbers!

Just stopping by for a quick hello. I am expecting the devils any moment, ha ha!!
In all fairness - it was the younger guy creating all the problems yesterday. EB is mature enough & very cooperative.

Thanks for the coffee Mick, really need it this morning
We are expecting some heavy rain later. I hope it washes out this extreme humidity, yuck.
Are the new glasses going to make you look smarter? Ha ha!! Keeping track of them is a big problem for me.

Sam. congrats on the job offer!
I hope it's everything you hoped for

Wishing everyone a great AF Wednesday!
      I'll be back later.

      Lav
      AF since 03/26/09

Sam, that is just the greatest news! Congratulations. It sounds like more your thing than going postal, anyway.

We've had so much rain, the ants have moved in. This sometimes happens in the spring but I've never had summer ants before. GROSS (But it doesn't sound as bad as Bisquit Beetles, Bear !).

Loved your factoids yesterday, Mick . When I was about 13, I really tried to disprove this one and just about blew my head off!:
22 - It's impossible to sneeze with your eyes open.
Sorry you felt mistreated, Pie. Nurse Lav, I agree with you that the check ups are important but man, a little bedside manner would be nice. The 75% increased BC risk with HRT you mentioned kind of shocked me until I realized that is an increase in relative risk, not absolute risk. No one would ever prescribe HRT if the absolute risk increased that much! Have fun w/ your grandsons. I'm realizing that a grandkid is as much fun as everyone said it would be -- but mine isn't old enough to get into much trouble yet so we'll see...

Hi, Det, Pauly, PPQP, Matt, SF and all daily abbers! Have a good one - NS

Happy Wednesday Everybody. Got my hands full with dog care today as I'm watching my friend's three while she moves into her new house. Together with my three, that makes for a whole lotta pups. I feel like the caretaker of a newborn, with no opportunity to shower or change clothes. It's just until Thursday morning though, so we'll manage.

Sam! Well done on getting the Conservation job. Sure sounds like a better fit for you than the USPS.

Mick, how long until you get your new glasses? Yes, I was completely cheesed off yesterday. Good thing there was JC's party to attend to bring back some levity, and I saw you pop in from the Dark Side of the Moon

PQ, Are you still parking Essy on the street at work?

Hi Nurse Lav, thanks for chiming in on my doc dilemma; I imagine you could tell some stories! For me, the question is not about any particular exam or therapy, it's about who gets to choose. If I have no say, then it means getting marched in lockstep down the SOP highway. It's the same issue as deciding how to overcome alcohol addiction. For many, standard protocol is a 12-step program. Who gets to choose? The Nurse Ratchets of the world, or their licensing boards, or their insurance carriers?

Guess my mile-wide independent streak is on full display, eh?

Det, does a blue thumb give you a gardening advantage?

            Hey there, Pauly.

NS, you got some good "taste" in apparel!

Popping my head in.....seems like I've been on the computer a lot the last two days. I have no idea how I would do 10 hours days in front of the computer before!

Doing an on-line conference for yoga regarding trauma...so that has been sucking up my time.

Hope everyone is well.....I usually peek in via the phone......but, that is a real pain to try type a message on.

MAE ALL....quick check in as it's back to the garden tonight.

Det...checked in when I got home from my meeting last night but you hadn't appeared yet. Ouch!!! Glad you're making it home tonight.

Mick....thanks for the kickoff this morning. Will have to check out Woodin when I get a chance. 32/90 degrees here today, sending the sun back to you! Laughed out loud with the Greece Bank holidays. We're leveling the ground of the coolaroo seating area in prep for the flooring tonight.

Sam...so happy to hear you got the job. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Lav...I'm glad we've lost the humidity here, just not used to it. Hope you survived your day.

Pauly....I said it looked like chicken on the barbie for supper the other night, hence the barbie picture. It's just the advertisement written on the packaging. LOL I think you're right...if you need the sleep, you need the sleep. It's probably your body hiding from all that heat!

NS...I just hate dealing with ants. Good Luck!

Pi...while reading your post I skipped over the word "dog". I thought WHAT....Pi has 3 kids. LOL Yup Essy's on the street. Let her in the parking lot one day and I was a nervous wreck! Maybe Det can master blueberry bushes.

NS...good to see you popping in. When I walk through a business all I see is everyone at their computers. What did we ever do before them? Probably got a lot more accomplished I bet.

Quick bite of supper then heading out. Was thinking we should reschedule but it looks like we're into the low 30's for a few days now. If I don't check back have a peaceful evening all.....:smile:PPQP

Yep, I survived AND they are coming back tomorrow & Friday! Apparently my son has a lot of mandatory OT this week so......

Pie, I totally agree with your thoughts on who gets to make the decisions. I think the medical community generally looks at most patients as 'stupid, uneducated, uninformed' & not capable of making a decision regarding their own health & welfare. That may have been true of a few but for the most part I found it helpful to involve a patient in making their care plans. Who knows the patient better than the patient, right? Enjoy the pup brigade!

Pauly, the little guy was much better behaved today - like night & day that one is

NS, not sure why I didn't get the usual spring ant invasion this year. Maybe they were busy traveling to your house, ha ha.
Personally, I have known so many people that developed breast cancer that were never exposed to HRT. I believe there's a whole lot more involved.

Hey there SF! Sounds like you are staying busy - good for you

PQ, you are always busy lady!!!!!
                      Enjoy your decent weather.

                      Det, hope you are OK!

Sam, great video.... seen that one before but it's been ages. i first saw a documentary on that fellow in the 80's. Amazing skill, and didn't appear

Lav, you sure are doing a lot of devil-sitting lately, hope they are treating you ok at least some of the time.

nice drive in the mountains today, and made it home just before thundershowers yet again. The rain is lovely and much needed.

I see the worlds oldest woman (116) chalks up her longevity to lots of sleep and 4 strips of bacon every morning. ha! I think I could manage that.

Mick, no carpentry pics? what the heck...

Thors day da fingyeth 8 ?

morning all...and just to carry on our little history lesson from yestrday......

Where do the names of the days of the week come from?

In English, we call our days of the week after Saxon gods, apart from Saturday. The French call their days of the week after Roman gods. But the Saxon and Roman gods who look after the same day are the same type of god.

The English 'Saturday' is called after a Roman god, not a Saxon one. In Scandinavia, the word for Saturday is Lördag or Lørdag. It is an ancient word meaning "bath". Apparently the Vikings took one bath a week and it was on Saturday, so they called it "bath day". Perhaps the Saxons didn't like baths, so they preferred to use the Roman day name!

                          English Saxon
                          Monday Mona
                          Tuesday Tiu
                          Wednesday Woden
                          Thursday Thor
                          Friday Freya
                          Saturday ---
                          Sunday Sunne

                          Jove Jeudi
                          Venus Vendredi
                          Saturn Samedi
                          Sun Dimanche

The Roman months were the same as ours, but the weeks were not. The Romans had eight days in their week, with a market day instead of a weekend, so they didn't use these names. Eventually, the Roman empire became Christian, and the Christians did have a seven day week, with the seventh, Sunday, being a holy day. The Romans seem to have named the days of the week after the planets, sun and moon.

there you go ...more dead uninteresting facts......and the Saxons nicked their names from the Vikings....now then next time you are at a party...and all around you are hammered on booze..just chuck a couple of them in ..they will think its the booze!!

suns out...and so are the mischief makers!!they are both running like mad around the garden....

During a job interview yesterday I poured some water into a cup and it overflowed slightly.

                          "Nervous?" asked the interviewer.

I replied simply, "No, I always give 110%"

Our furniture goes back to Louis the fifteenth.

Unless of course we pay Louis by the fourteenth.

I've been suffering from depression and making a lot of visits to McDonalds.

The wife came home from her WeightWatchers class last night..

"Are you ok love?" I asked. "You look upset."

"Got some bad news tonight." She began. "Julie from the group was hit by a taxi on her way home last week and died."

                          "Jesus, that's awful." I consoled.

"Yeah, and to make matters worse." She told me, "It would have been her birthday mid-week."

"Aww, hell." I said. "That couldn't be more upsetting for you all."

"Oh, it could." She said, bursting into floods of tears. "She was going to bring cakes in."

Females are super simple, with them yes means yes, no means yes, no means no and no means maybe but maybe means yes, and maybe means no.

                          Simple really!

My son hates it when I tell everyone that he is potty training.

That will teach him for ignoring my careers advice and taking an apprenticeship in a china factory.

The other day I went over to a nearby Walmart . When I got there, I went straight to the back of the store to where the Pharmacists' Counter is located. I took out my little brown bottle along with a teaspoon and laid them both onto the counter.
The pharmacist came over smiled and asked if he could help me.
I said, "Yes! Could you please taste this for me?"
Being I'm a senior citizen, I guess the Pharmacist just went along with me. He picked up the spoon and put a tiny bit of the liquid on his tongue and swilled it around. Then with a stomach-churning look on his face he spit it out on the floor and began coughing.
When he finally was finished, I looked him right in the eye and asked, "Now, does that taste sweet to you?"
The pharmacist, shaking his head back and forth with a venomous look in his eyes yelled, "HELL NO!!!"
So I said, "Oh thank God! That's a real relief! My doctor told me to get a pharmacist to test my urine for sugar!"

Yep, Mick and Sam, this fred will do just fine. Morning all from the menagerie. Seems my friend, whose dogs I'm keeping, hired The Three Stooges Moving Company. They showed up 2.5 hours late yesterday, couldn't fit all of her stuff in their van, got stuck on the way to her new place in a road closure, and then had a fender bender. They're due back this morning to finish. Aye chihuahua!

                              I'll pop back later.
