    Hello friends,

It is going to be in the 90's today. Ugh! It was too hot to be outside yesterday too. Cyn, I can't believe you were out bushwacking in this weather! I agree with Star, you are a warrior!

Star, your yard sounds perfect. I still have such a large yard and it needs mowing again! I can't believe it is September and the grass is as green and growing like it is Spring!

Lav, I went to my doc yesterday for a physical and med check. All is well. I did tell her tho that my back issue (degenerative disc) is causing me pain and or numbness in my left foot and leg which has been ticking up. She suggested a medication called neurontin so I'm going to try it. Have you any experience with it? Her other suggestion was PT but I think I can just pull out the suggested exercises from my last go round and start doing them a few times a week.

On the way home from the doc I got pulled over for speeding! 71 in a 55 zone. Sheesh. You think that at 63 years of age I would know better! Ha! Oh well. Have a great af Friday everyone.

My family is so tired of hearing me whine,I'm tired too, start toiimagine that I have some horrible disease, I know its just allergies that I think have led to an ear infection again, my clinic can't see me as they're too busy cuz of the holiday weekend, just have to ride it out I guess,I did find some antibiotics from my last ear infection and I know its bad but I'm gonna take them(Lav is gonna yell!)everyone sounds good, hope we all have a great Friday
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me"

Good morning friends & happy Friday to all

It hit 96 degrees yesterday - HOT!!
As usual, my plans changed at the last minute. The boys did not need to come over but will be here at 9:15 this morning. My daughter & granddaughter are also coming for the day! Word of the day will be BUSY, ha ha!!

Dill, 71 mph? You've got yourself a lead foot there lady, LOL
Honestly, I think I would give the PT a go - at least a few sessions. They can give you some good moves to help with your pain. Neurotin is prescribed for practically everything these days & may be useful but I wouldn't stay on it for the long run. My friend's daughter ended up in a psych unit with a bipolar Dx after taking Neurotin & a bunch of other meds. Meds are prescribed way too often & almost all have unwanted side effects. My friend's daughter ended up in a psych unit with a biploar Dx after being on a bunch of prescription meds including Neurontin. She's the same age as my son

Pauly, don't you have any walk in clinics in your area? CVS & Walgreens have a few staffed by nurse practioners even in this area. The thing with antibiotics is you need to take the right one & you need to take it all. There should never be any left over from a previous illness. I hope you can find some help today

Cyn, tonight they will have turkey meatballs!!!
Don't over due it out in this ferocious heat!!

Star, enjoy your long weekend, yay!

Have a great AF day everyone!

Not sure what I am doing all day, we shall see.

Hi Lav, I'm here. I have been busy tho! We picked up the kids last night and have had them overnight. When I have them here overnight it is really hard to get time to be online, as you can imagine. It's been great fun tho. It was just a nice, cool summer morning. Mr. D is refinishing our old oak kitchen table so we had no place inside to eat breakfast. We had breakfast out on the deck instead. The bugs were not active that early in the morning and the air was cool. Very nice change of pace. I hope you are having a restful Saturday after your busy day yesterday.

Pauly, I am so sorry you have been feeling sick for so long. It gets tiresome! Maybe you need to go see a doc?

We have been doing some yard work but now the temp is too high so we are taking a rest. I wish I could take a bonafide siesta!

Star, Pauly, Cyn, I hope you are enjoying a peaceful and af Saturday.

              Hi there -

Sorry to have such a late check-in! Hope everyone has had a good weekend day. I ended up with another big work day; fighting invasives, dog duties, groceries, etc. Mr T got here late this evening, and SD will arrive tomorrow morning.

The weather has been actually great here - no bugs, and I've actually sat out on the deck and just felt the lovely breeze on my cheeks, what a gift. My tomatoes and flowers look very sweet, and I've made some progress with the wild bush in the 'back forty'. If only I could have a team of gardeners, I could whip this place into shape!

Dill - I had no idea you deal with chronic pain. Good luck with the PT, that will probably help the most. I'm begin a good girl with all my neck and back exercises. I guess your right foot is doing fine at giving the car gas, right?

                Good morning all...

Still hot here, no break from the heat. I guess I did not post yesterday, I had phone calls to deal with, had to find rooms for my Dad's funeral in a few weeks, then some errands to run and a hair appointment in the city. So, I was busy with all the type of things that I can't get done in the workweek. Today, we are going to a touristy city not far from our house and then stay overnight in a state park, hopefully waking up for hiking tomorrow before it gets really hot. I am looking forward to doing something different.

Pauly, hope you feel better, I went to one of those docs at a Walgreens months ago and was able to get medicine I needed. Allergy symptoms that last long term really wear you down. Do you know what you are allergic to? I had to go to an allergist and did what they told me, medicine OTC only when I need it, and I am much better. I wish that for you.

Dill, please be careful with neurontin, it is an addictive medicine, I knew someone who had to wean theirself off of it. So sorry you are in pain. Sounds like fun with the grandkids, and beautiful weather too. I do find having a small yard easier. Lots of changes since last year. I still can't get over it.

Cyn, busy lady, glad your exercises are helping. Have fun with family. We have continued to eat lots of tomatoes locally grown, and now white corn, from heaven. Love the fresh produce.

More coffee for me. Have a good one.

                  Good morning af friends!

And a beautiful morning it is when you start hangover free! Think of all those years when the focus was on dealing with recovering from the night before, instead of feeling the gifts of the morning with clear presence.

Cyn, LOL! Yes, unfortunately my right foot is functioning just fine and is pain free and can put the pedal to the metal with ease! My checkbook is feeling the pain tho! That little mistake cost me $155! The waste of it kills me when I see so many things my grandchildren could have with that money. Ugh. But, I haven't been hiding my chronic pain. It's more a numbness in my left foot that just recently has become more of a burning pain. I opted for the medication and in addition I am going to get back to my home exercises given to me during my last round of PT. If things don't improve I will go back to the PT which in my case usually involves traction.

Our kitchen table project is going well. I don't remember if I mentioned it here, but we are refinishing our old oak kitchen table and adding a leaf which Mr. D has made. It looks wonderful and I can't wait to have it back in place! Grandson arrived two evenings ago just in time to help put on the stain. He will proudly sit at the table at our next meal.

                  Star, Lav and Pauly, greetings!

Road trip for me today. We are travelling to Cleveland for a family gathering. I am looking forward to seeing my brother, his wife and several nieces and nephews. Have a great af day everyone.

                      Good morning friends!

I am meeting a girlfriend for lunch today - neither of us are interested in laboring on Labor Day, feeding families, ha ha!

Cyn, I am just choosing to not worry about the overgrowth of things around here. Not worth tangling with any more poison ivy this season
Glad you made some progress! Have a nice family kind of day!

Star & Dill, you both have busy days planned as well ~ enjoy!

Pauly, how are you feeling? Better I hope!

Have a safe AF day out on the roads everyone!

                          Hi all -

                          happy sunday -

Dill, I loved your reflecting on how awful some of those weekend mornings were. SO glad that it is in the rear-view mirror. It sounds wonderful that your grandson has been part of making the family table - love that. Hope your visit with family is good -

Pauly - too bad about all your symptoms. have you tried staying away from wheat and dairy? that can really give your sinuses a break when you're trying to heal.

Star - I have been wondering about your Dad's funeral. Good luck with all the arrangements - I'm sure all of this brings up quite a bit of emotion. Hugs coming at you. I love your plan for this weekend. Hiking! Bliss! Hope it stays cool enough for you -

Lav - no labor on labor day?! Glad that you had lunch with friends.

I did a bit of cleaning this morning, getting ready for SD to arrive. We ended up going to a pig roast at an organic farm close by, then over hill and dale to a wonderful quirky house wares shop - beautiful things - and finally home in the heat. i was totally done in by then, and my back and neck were not happy. Took a rest and iced my neck, and things seem a little better tonight. M T grilled pre-made (by a local butcher shop) turkey burger patties - I had some fresh tomatoes, so we had a nice gresh feast. (I just remembered that i forgot to cook the corn!) Oh well.

Hope all have a great AF night, and a wonderful Labor Day tomorrow.

Hello friends! Back home and tired from the travel but so happy that we made the trip and connected with family. I have no one from my family near by so it really meant a lot to me.

Lav, where did you and your gf meet for lunch? Did you have a nice time? I decided to go ahead and try the neurontin but I didn't have the doc add it to my mail order prescriptions yet. I just had her send the script to a local pharmacy. I am not sure how I'll do with it. She has me on a low dose. I asked her if it was the kind of drug I that builds up and you can't stop taking it without weaning off bc I didn't want to take anything like that. She said at the dosage she was prescribing I could stop taking it without any problems but yes, if you are on higher doses there must be a weaning process. So I figured as the low dose I could try it I have had it 3 days now. As I am writing this I am feeling drowsy which I usually don't feel in the mornings (accept in the old hangover days!) I'll tell you in a few more days how I'm doing, if you are interested.

Star, thanks for the cautionary tale about your friend being addicted to neurontin. If you read what I said to Lav you will already know I am being careful about it. I appreciate your concern. I was wondering about the funeral arrangements. I hope your little get-away was lots of fun and a nice change of pace. Hard to have fun in this heat, I know. That was was the worst part about our trip yesterday, and the party was outdoors!

Pauly, UGH! I just wish you could get some relief! It must be allergy, but to what?! Whatever it is, I hope it goes away.

Cyn, I thought of you last evening on my drive home. We were heading west on I-70 at sunset. It made the driving hard but just as the sun touched the horizon there was so much haze that you could look directly at it. It was a huge red ball in the sky. Of course we couldn't keep looking directly at it. It seemed like it went down so fast at that point tho. It was almost like it disappeared! Anyway, we were close to home at that point and our immediate concern was getting home before true dark. Why? Because our town has a festival on Labor Day and they scheduled fireworks for last night. We had to get home before the big booms to get Tessa into a safe place. Like most dogs, she's scared to death of the sounds and they were really close. Luckily, we made it home just before the start.

Interesting experience on my trip home as relates to wine. I'm going to post about it tomorrow tho. I think I've worn you all out by now as it is! LOL!

                            Have a good holiday, AF!
                            Dill

Good morning friends, happy Labor Day

Dill, glad to hear you had a good day with family yesterday. That's something I miss, we used to have get togethers all the time. I miss those days.
I hope you get relief from your Rx, be careful about potential side effects

I met my friend yesterday & we had lunch at PF Chang's then hit a few stores in the area. It was nice to get out, for sure. I was surprised to find my daughter & her family here when I got home, ha ha. She was working on her homework assignments, my grandaughter was playing & generally making a big mess, ha ha. My son-in-law was out using the log splitter trying to make a dent in the huge stockpile of wood YB has been collecting all summer.
We grilled some chicken, roasted some broccoli & made a pretty good spur of the moment dinner.

Star, hope your weekend is going well!

Pauly, hope you are getting some allergy relief. I see Cyn mentioned eliminating possible food allergens like milk & wheat. That's what I've been talking about

Cyn, my no labor on labor day didn't exactly work out as planned but it wasn't bad either, ha ha! Can't believe we are facing yet another heat wave this coming week - geez!!

Have a great AF day everyone! Not sure what Im doing yet, we shall see.

Hi all - Happy Labor Day!

Lav - what a funny story about your daughter being there when you got home! It's wonderful that they want to be with you - how is their house coming along? And roasted broccoli, on the grill? That's a new one. Hope the rest of your day has been good. It's hot here too...

Dill - glad that you had a safe trip home. Tessa is a lucky dog to have you get her home before the fireworks. Yes, the earlier dark is coming as a bit of a surprise - I went out on the deck at 8 PM, and it was almost flat out dark! I wish we could just freeze this time of sun-up, sun-down, as if we were on the equator. Ah well...

Had SD here, we did a little garden shopping for her today (inside gardening), so she went home happy. Mr T will go back to Westchester later tonight. Some friends up here invited us to an early dinner, so we'll go there and he'll head out after that.

It's so wonderful to be fully aware of everything in a holiday weekend, and not be sneaking off to 'relax' or 'have a holiday' (since we know that most family gatherings don't actually function as holidays for us). We had some interesting family dynamic conversations over the last 2 days, but I didn't feel like I had to hide from the conversations. What a relief to be aware and OK with it all.

Wishing all a happy AF finish to the holiday -
