Yeah Lav,Kell was prescribed baclofen for her back but quit taking it cuz it was making her depressed, said it didn't work anyways, speaking of drugs being everywhere, my hometown is in northern Nevada and there's an incredible Meth addiction running rampant in a town of only 4,000 people! My brothers have lost several friends cuz of overdose, so stupid and sad, hope everyone is having a peaceful nightI have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:
I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me"
Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

Hello friends, Up early here and like you Lav, I have an early rising 4 year old on board! What's with that. I managed to get her to lie down in my bed for a few more minutes, It didn't last long tho. Sigh.
Pauly the couple of things I learned that I didn't know previously was that there is a gene that causes people to process alcohol differently and it is likely what causes some to drink alcoholically while others know when to stop. I also learned that long term memories are stored in the brain while we sleep. That is why a good night's sleep is critical!
I thought Louie's dad was an idiot but now I KNOW it. Sheesh,, so sorry you have to deal with that but doesn't in make you even more glad you are in the recovery process?! So upsetting to hear about the meth epidemic near you. It's opiates around here, mostly. Are there community resouces in the area for the drug addicted? I am in a county that has several good resources and the governor of our state is very sympathetic and concerned for the drung addicted and mentally ill, so more resources are available as a result. Kasich is our governor.
Speaking of the recovery process, that was another thing that I picked up at the forum. There appears to be a push in our state and perhaps nationally, I don't know, to move to a Recovery model. It is much more positive, realistic and focuses on the client's needs. It used to be the agencies got you clean and put you out the door. Now they are focusing on the long term needs which I think is critical! I was really excited by it.
Uh oh! Out of time. Have good days, Cyn and Lav. If I get time I'll try to come back and finish this post later!Dill
Dont forget, you can: start late, start over, be unsure, try and fail AND STILL SUCCEED!
If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

Happy Sunday everyone, Dill,I always figured we process alcohol differently than normal peeps, almost like an allergy or something, I was thinking the other day how weird it is that a lot of women around the boards didn't even drink until they hit their 30's,I wonder if hormones got disrupted? Or we just got fed up with life? Midlife crises? Its just weird to me,I'm kinda glad I started late though cuz at least now that I've quit,I have more coping skills and memories than if I had drank from my teens to my 40's,jeez,I was exercising and my blood sugar dropped so low I was shakey, dizzy, ugh,was gonna cook a big breakfast for everyone but screw that! I went and bought something quick,I do use a protein shake before/during but sometimes its not enough I guess, hello to all and I hope we all have a peaceful Sunday, don't forget the crazy full moon tonight, I'm gonna check it outI have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

Hi all -
oh dear, all the early risers! I guess it's not just dogs that can get you out of bed early!
Thanks for the info, Dill. I have believed for a long time that there is a genetic component - even if the science took a long time to say so! My understanding is that once our bodies can no longer detox the alcohol like other peoples' bodies, the residue turns into ethyl-alcohol, or something like that, which functions just like an opiate, just as addictive. That's why I believe that for me abstinence is the only way. Otherwise it would be like kicking pain drugs, only to start up with them again..
Thanks for the reminder about the moon tonight, Pauly. I'll have to read about it. Maybe that's why the kids are getting up so early? My dogs do the same around the full moon.
Star - thinking of you.
Lav - I hope that you're able to catch a breath today - you must be on kid duty again! Thanks for the reminder that we have a choice whether to be involved with toxic people.
Well, that's all I can write now...I drove 1 1/2 hours to go to brunch with SD, and because of road construction, it took over 2 hours on the way home. My neck and back are not healed enough for that much driving, and now I need a break, so no more screen time for me right now. Hope all have a peaceful Sunday evening...

Hello friends!
Daughter & her family just left so now I have a few minutes to myself, ha ha.
The supermoon is big & bright - just waiting for the eclipse to start which should be soon-ish.
I am so grateful that neither of my kids got involved with drugs. We were both very open & honest with them when they were young both from the health side & the legal side of the issue. I like that some of the PD's are reaching out into the community & offering to take offenders to rehab instaed of tossing them directly in jail. Hopefully things will change for th better.
Pauly, meth is just so nasty. I don't know how anyone makes a decision to start that crap.
Dill, the alarm clock in the guest room went off at 6 am this morning! Somehow or another one of the boys managed to set the alarm before they left yesterday, ha ha!!!! Just what I needed!
Cyn, rest your tired self, please
You need your strength to get through the long winter about to descend on us.
Thinking of you Star.
Have a peaceful night everyone.

Hello All,
Lav, sorry about that 6 am alarm yesterday! LOL! My day was long and busy from start to nearly finish. It was a full house with grandkids, my son and Mr. D's cousin all here for football and food and fun. I made a huge meal and Mr. D grilled some fish for it. We all enjoyed it but I must say that after I finished cleaning up and putting things away I realized that I had not had a chance to sit and really visit with anyone. (adult-wise) I think next time we all get together, I'm going to scale back on meal prep and go simple so that I can relax with everyone! If it means ordering a pizza, so be it! I'm glad you managed to raise two kids who both stayed away from drugs and have successful careers and loving families.
Star, thinking of you.
Cyn, I'm with Lav. Rest is ordered! I'm glad you and Pauly reminded me of the full moon and eclipse. I looked at the full moon at 10:00 last night and it was 3/4's covered in darkeness. I was so tired last night I couldn't stay awake to see the entire eclips, but I feel ok about that. I was so exhausted! I woke once in the middle of the night and saw the brightness and in the early morning I looked at the beautiful moon suspended in the western sky. I heard that the supermoon was 15% larger than the average full moon. It was beautiful. Did you get to see any of the process?
Pauly, I agree that it is weird that a lot of the ladies on here started drinking so late. I started drinking in college and I should have know from my reaction back then that I should avoid it for the rest of my life. Right from the start I had no off switch and I would end up sick or terribly hung over every time. I drank in a controlled way in my late 20's and 30's bc childrearing superceded the urge to drink to excess. I guess I was lucky there! Plus, Mr. D is a non drinker, so that helped. But I did drink daily at dinner time, especially while cooking. Eventually, the kids took less attention and the drinking ticked up and eventually out of control.
I saw on NBC Nightly news last night that CVS has made a decision to sell Narcan over the counter at its stores in several states! Not Ohio, unfortunately, but I thought it was a great move! If you didn't see the news report look for it on the NBC website. Have a great day everyone.
Oh, I went on the website to find it. Here is the link:

Good Monday morning Dill & friends!
Well, I did see the moon & the eclipse before the clouds moved in but the moon I saw was large & white. It looked nothing like the red moon I'm seeing in pictures everywhere, ha ha! Maybe there's more than one moon??? Who knows?
Dill, drinking was never a problem for me until I fell apart after a prolonged period of stress. Everything just piled up on me & I could no longer deal with it in any sort of healthy way. At the age of 40 something I latched on to the wine bottle & didn't let go for a good 10 years. I really punished myself badly in that period of time. I just wanted to get away from everything & everyone
Now that I have battled my way out I am staying out!!! Glad you enjoyed your family time this weekend too!
Greetings to Star, Pauly & Cyn!
Have a great AF day everyone.

hey everybody!
Yes, I did see the moon last night. In fact, I was in and out of the house several times over the whole process! Lav - by the time I saw it high in the sky it was white as well, but I was excited to see just the beginnings of the shadow coming over the left side. Then I would go out and look (from my front steps!) every so often, and it was a weird kind of thrill to see the stars get brighter and brighter and the moon becoming duller and less present. Close to the full eclipse I went out and almost fell down the steps, as the darkness had descended so quickly - I could not see where I was going. Some of the trees could still be seen in a strange kind of grey-ish light. I watched it go to nearly full eclipse, then it seemed like the light was moving to the bottom of the orb, so I thought maybe it had reached its fullest. I awoke several times in the night and once went to the window to see the shadow now passing on the right side...every passing hour the light behind the curtains got brighter. Like a topsy-turvy world!
Either from lack of sleep (probably) or something, I had a bit of a troubling day. Lav, I had to sweep away lots of ANTS! I'm so glad you mentioned that recently, it really helped draw my attention to what a bunch of hooey my brain feeds my soul on occasion. I finally went to the lake and asked the water to take away whatever was dragging me down. I just left it there, and that felt good. The MBG Monday Mantra was just great for me today: "You Get What You Focus On" Don't like what you're getting? Focus on something else (like positive things, maybe?).
Well, every day is a new chance to let some things go, right? Thanks all for your voices here - I hope all is well with each of you --

Good morning everyone...
Busy thread, glad to see it.
The funeral was a real celebration of life, lots of good family time, perfect weather, great memories, just a healing time for everyone involved. So glad it is over though. I was exhausted yesterday, made it through work and slept nine straight hours last night. Whew. Having some coffee now, need a little more.
Have a good one.

Good morning friends,
Good to see you back Star. Glad the weekend went well & everyone is on the way to healing their loss
Cyn, sounds like you had a pretty good eclipse experience, ha ha!
Recognizing those ANTS for what they are & immediately squashing them has been an effective tool for me, glad it helped you too! I also keep telling myself that drinking never really resolved anything, just put a problem on the back burner. I love the power of positive thinking
Hello to Pauly & Dill, hope you are both OK!
I'm working on some craft stuff this morning then heading out to meet a couple of friends for lunch. I always feel empowered after spending time with my old work tribe
Have a great AF Tuesday everyone!

Hello friends, dreary, rainy day here. I'm glad we didn't have this on the night of the lunar eclipse.
Star, welcome back. I'm glad you were able to celebrate life and join your loved ones in doing so.
Lav, I hope you had fun with your old gang at lunch. I'm getting together with a friend this Thursday. I need to do that more tho. It takes effort to get these things organized, but you are right, you feel so much better as a result!
Hi Pauly, hope you got some cooler weather.
Cyn, I enjoyed your post about your lunar eclipse watch. It was really magical, wasn't it. I didn't watch as actively as you did, just looked out my window. I bet it would have been worth it to go out when the moon was covered, to see the stars that you said were shining so brightly. Thanks for the description!
Not much to report from here. Just getting small things done and doing some online shopping. Have a great AF Tuesday everyone.Dill

Good morning...
The smoke detector in my room is beeping, and I can't shut it off due to a high ceiling, so tonight I have to buy a ladder. What a pain in the neck! Up since 3:20 am, my day is going to be a struggle, I am tired already. Darn it. I read some other threads (being up so darn early) and I guess we can get new members now. Interesting. I like this thread and the abstinence category, cause we are all on the same page and kind and supportive. That is important, and I believe the moderators have a different mindset, that is OK, but not for me. It just doesn't work.
Lav, Cyn, Dill, Pauly, have a good day. Hey, tomorrow is October, so someone will come up with an appropriate name, right?

Good morning friends, happy Hump day!
It's all dark & damp here, had a load of rain overnight. Now I hear hurricane Joaquin is set to work it's way up the coast this weekend ~ groan.
Dill, I did enjoy time out with my friends yesterday, thanks.
Despite aging, a few heath problems here & there we still seem to be able to pick up where we left off after the last time we gathered together I always feel happy & centered after spending a few hours with them.
Are you still getting rain?
Star, beeping smoke alarms are annoying, to say the least. I think I would have knocked on neighbor's doors looking to borrow a ladder, ha ha. The smoke alarms are all hard wired in this house so I don't have to deal with that anymore & I am grateful. Hope you have an easy day!
Cyn, are you prepping for the hurricane? Here we go again, huh?
Pauly, you didn't check in yesterday - hope you are OK
I am going to make my way to Curves while I can then back to get some craft work done. The show is the first week of November.
Have a great AF Wednesday everyone!

Hello friends, I logged on early and read your post Star, but when I went back a short time later, I couldn't log into the site. It must've been down for maintenance or something.
Star, sorry about your beeping smoke detector. I had that happen a few weeks ago too in the middle of the night. Annoying! Tomorrow is October and the first thing that came to my mind was Optimal October. Or Optimistic October.
Lav, you are going to be in a craft show? I don't think I heard you mention it before. Forgive me if you have. Who is sponsoring the show? How exciting! Is this one of your money makers or does it more or less give you exposure for possible future orders?
Cyn, I'm really and truly enjoying the Iron King.
Pauly, hope you're doing ok.
Cloudy here but no rain. I've just had a nice walk and am going to settle in and do a little reading. Have a good af Hump Day.Dill

Good evening all -
Sorry to skip out yesterday, I thought I was going to be able to post, but couldn't get it done before I left (again) to go meet up with Mr T for an event in NYC. I stayed over in his apartment and headed home this morning, so it wasn't too bad, but it always leaves me a little disoriented. I did manage to get a fair amount done yesterday before I left, and actually got back at it once I got home today, but it feels a little 'squashed'. It was nice for the 2 of us to be together though, and we were able to grab a bite to eat at a little restaurant - almost like a date!
Star - so glad to hear the report of the weekend, and glad that it was a celebration. But I'm sure you are tired out, and then that darn alarm! That's happened to me (in a house that was hard-wired, Lav!) and I remember that it was a loooooong night. BTW all, change your batteries on all the smoke alarms in your house when we change the clocks - that way you know that they get changed every 6 months...
Dill - I was thinking of having Optimism or Optimistic in the title for October also! Sounds good to me. So glad that you are enjoying The Iron King - aren't the notes in the back fascinating? Like the whole idea of dates being so different in different countries? I found that as interesting as the story itself.
Lav - love that you got together with your 'tribe'. That must be some serious women power at that table!
Pauly - shout out to you, hope you are doing OK. I well remember the heat in September and October in the desert. Hopefully you'll get some relief soon.
OK, that's all for now, I'm turning in early tonight...
