    How Alberta Got Its Name..

John Campbell was Marquis of Lorne, and eldest son of the Duke of Argyll. He was 33 and recently married when he was posted to Canada as the new Governor General. He adored his young wife, Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, who was the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria.

In 1882, the Marquis was asked to name one of the four new districts that had previously been part of the Hudson's Bay Company holdings known as Rupert's Land. According to historian Merrily Aubrey, inspiration for a new name came from the man's heart.

Actually the Marquis of Lorne, at the time of the naming, wrote a little poem because he was very much in love with his wife and the two of them seemed to get along very well. I mean, there may have been dalliances, but by all accounts probably not.
He wrote: In token of the love which thou has shown for this wide land of freedom, I have named a province vast and for its beauty famed by thy dear name.
In her later years, the princess once told an interviewer that her husband wanted the name to be associated with his tenure in office, besides, the American state Louisiana precluded the use of her first name.

In 1905, the district called Alberta became a province. History shows the only discouraging word over the choice of a girl's name appeared in an editorial in the Edmonton Bulletin.

And the article went on to say that even naming it after that quadruped that once swarmed over the plains in great herds would be more appropriate than naming it Alberta. So, we could have been Buffalonia or Bisona.

hiya ppqp...did you have thre big brekkie..I defo did!!!!how are you ?Im planting up seeds this morning..pre party..so the growing season has started..you working on the garden yet?

hiya Lav...nice and sunny here too...an eagle ?wow what kind?none here at the back we have kestrels,I have also seen a peregrine and there are a pair of nesting merlins in the far wood need to watch the peskies when they are about!!so brew time for you..hows the greenhouse doing ...hows yb after that fall?..and a far as the rain goes...no ta you can have it!!!

At breakfast this morning, my wife said she's leaving me because of my obsession with Twitter.
I almost choked on my #Brown.

It's a mystery to me how a corpse can be identified sometimes by dental records, if they don't know who you are how the fck do they know who your dentist is?

Me and my girlfriend had sex in my car last night and it was pretty uncomfortable.
I wish we'd dropped her parents off first.

what do you get if you cross the Atlantic wit the Titanic?...halfway

Mae everybody, Mick spot on with what you said to Det about the skillet, its that exact same way with me,its weird cuz I identify with being a non drinker so much, the daily part of my life, being in social settings, events, etc its just those times when I can't get a grip on my thoughts that derail me,sleep in a bit later than usual this morning and it makes me feel groggier kinda, much love to all and I hope we all have a great AF Saturday
I have too much shit to do today and tomorrow to drink:sohappy:

I'm taking care of the "tomorrow me"
Drinkin won't help a damn thing! Will only make me sick for DAYS and that ugly, spacey dumb feeling-no thanks!

          MAE ALL...

Thanks for the kickstart Mick...now I'm really hungry and I don't have any mushrooms. Not working on the garden yet but am planning the layout. Will go back and read the Alberta story, I know some of it. Have fun at the Bday party.

Hey Snoop...hope you have a good one too.

Pauly...I know what you mean about the groggy feeling. Hope it's past and you're enjoying your day.

Not sure what I'm up to today but I know it's not going to be much. I feel exhausted after the week I had.
Shout out to everyone and hope you all have a Super Saturday.....:smile:PPQP

MAE, interesting reading about Alberta. Canada is my country of citizenship and I'd never heard that history before. I am so envious of that breakfast. Had my knee surgery yesterday and it is much more painful today. Can't cook and I'm drinking liquid protein today. Ugh. When I first typed that sentence I forgot to type in liquid protein. What a difference in statements.

How are you feeling about things today, Snoop?

            Stay the good fight Det!

I was approved for my new apt. today. It is bigger, has more closets, a large sunken tub and bigger patio. The management here are amazing but I look out onto a parkway where the average speed is 65 mph and lots of racing at night i.e. mustangs and Camaro racings and the odd corvette. I will have to pay to get out of the lease, but it isn't that bad compared to some.

This pain medication is making me pee a lot!. TMI

              Good evening Abbers,

We actually had a sunny 7 warm day today. The AC turned itself on this afternoon which is funny because we still have snow piles hanging around outside.
Mick, that was a good old American Bald Eagle! The one with the 5 foot wing span, yikes! I've seen them around the area, they apparently like to grab fish from the creeks & chickens from backyards!!! They are huge when you see them up close, amazing really.
YB is getting the last of the wiring done in the greenhouse so the lights & fans are working - nice. Not much growing in there at the moment. I hope the kiddie birthday party was fun. My grandson is turning 6 on April 6!

SK, I wish you a speedy recovery. You sure have had a lot to deal with lately, take it easy!
Good luck with your new apt.

Hi there SnoopStar, Pauly & PQ!
Det, you have had a good week, stay well

Grateful to be waking up 8 years AF tomorrow. I am proud of my accomplishment & want the same for all of you

              Peace,

                Hi didly ho ABerooos!

Mick, the wild gamekeeper, good to see the animals have you trained up right
i like the sounds of your new diet which includes icecream LOL you better write up a diet book as I think it would sell bigtime.

SK, sorry to hear your in pain... hopefully the surgery will get you fixed up soon and you can stay out of the bathroom a tad more!

Pauly, I also slept in today and felt super tired for the first time all week. Not sure what's up with that but I'm perking back up again. Yep, need to avoid getting bonked with pans for sure. Eternal vigilance is the name of our game. Si si puede.

Good healthy fun today with a sober friend and his son. I finally got a custom gun I've been waiting 3 freaking years for... no kidding! I'm certainly glad the darn thing works well. yeesh.

Amazing dramatic clouds west of me... waiting to see if there's a photo-worthy sunset to be had.
It's like a wall of clouds just hanging over the Sierras. i love dramatic weather.

shouts to Snoopy, PPQ and any other late check-ins.

Lav, see you on your fantabulous birfdy tomorrow

                be well loves

                  Re: saturday mornin in ducksville.....

Congrats on 8 years Lav! What a great accomplishment!

Wrapping up the tail end of our trip. We cut it short because of some health issues with my son and just need to get back home. It has been great seeing everyone, but I do recognize (or my body does) when enough is enough. I have noticed in the past when I have a little too much "people" time, my body will literally get achy, have the chills and I will sleep most of the day. Which is exactly what I did the entire Friday---it was kind of awesome to be in a luxury hotel room and just chill an entire day. Now it has me thinking a bit more about a silent retreat---or even heading off to a hotel once in awhile for a night by myself.

Lav---when we pulled into PA I nearly died! Snow and it was soooo cold. Then things heated up a bit, but we were downtown Cleveland tonight and that wind off the lake was enough---get me back to Nashville! Odd that I lived both places roughly 20 years and neither feel like home to me anymore.

I'll be stuck in a car tomorrow, but so glad to be headed back home.
