Re: Motivated in May
Greetings friends,
Well, I showed up at the lab for my fasting bloodwork at 9 am & they rejected the lab slip my health care provider gave me. Of course, I tried to call the office to get them to fax something to the lab & they were not there, ugh. So I am going to have to reschedule & do this all over again, boring.
Today was a perfect blue sky day, not too warm, nice breeze, just nice
Star, glad your Olive Garden gathering went well.
You sound like you are filling your days just fine, that's great. I ended up meeting two former coworkers for lunch so that took the sting out of my morning experience.
Have fun working outside while the weather is good. I can't do too much outside once the excessive heat & humidity sets in, ugh.
Pauly, it sounds like you are starting to feel better. I think everyone I know is complaining about feeling tired right now. I chalk that up to allergies. And folks around here are still coming down with some funky respiratory illness like the flu. That should end soon, geez.
Your strawberry baskets sound like nice gifts. I hope they thrive for you.
Hello to Cyn, hope you are well.
Have a nice night everyone!

Re: Motivated in May
Good morning...
Lav, sorry you fasted for nothing, hope your lunch was fun. Yes, I am filling my time, starting out with exercise which boosts my mood, then I make a list of things to get done. Yesterday I worked inside the house and outside too, I have to water already, it is getting hot here and the city dug up a piece of my yard and planted grass so I have to water the seeds so I do get grass. I also bought a few bags of mulch, all I can handle at one time, and spread it around. I am going again today, little by little I will get it done without hurting myself. Also working on my upstairs office about a half hour a day putting paperwork back in file cabinets and it is starting to look better up there. Is your weather getting better? It is so lovely here, the windows are open, the birds are singing, and it smells heavenly, I love spring.
Pauly, nice to have your family around, glad Michelle is back. Good she was up early, I am all about that.
Cyn, hope things are going well.
Have a productive AF Tuesday.

Re: Motivated in May
Morning all -
Sorry to be away yesterday, it was just a crazy day.
So glad to hear that your Mother's Day(s) were OK... it is all up to perspective, right? Moms just get used to making it happen for their families, even on Mother's Day! Pauly, I love the strawberry plant gift - I hope I can find something like that here. Yes, I remember longing for green when I lived in the desert... glad you at least have your little, plants. Star, glad to hear that you are having some fun with your yard. What a help to your daughter that you can babysit! It sounds like you are getting a good routine in... great job with the exercising. Lav, no, seriously, they didn't accept your Lav request? Grrrr! So glad that you had lunch to look forward to - hope you had a snack in between.
I had a mammogram early yesterday- I was supposed to have an ultrasound after, but I cancelled it, too expensive at the hospital. I'll skip it this year, or shop around for a better price. I got home and worked, then had an hour phone meeting (while I sort of ate lunch) then packed up and drove to a town an hour away for a dentist appointment - Better shopping there, so I made lots of stops and stocked up in everything from ghee to mulch! Got home (getting dog food on the way), made a quick dinner for HB and a yam + pumpkin seeds for me and had another 1 hour phone conference, this time about political action. Whew. Then I watched 20 minutes of TV w/HB so he didn't feel ignored and thecrawled into bed! (He asked me if I wanted to watch a movie - we were watching MSNBC- and I said 'what movie could be better than this? Seriously, this stuff is right out of a Dan Brown novel...)
So here's the picture of my hubs: only child, working mother, but his grandmother lived with them his whole life and doted in him. (His daughter is an 'only' also, and not in a relationship. Do we think I have two easy-breezy people in my life? Not.). Star, I can't have HB work outside - the ticks are right up close to the yard this year, and he can't afford even the chance of Lyme. Cooking, Lav? Takeout is his form of cooking, ha! But I have taught him to make his own breakfast, thank goodness. I do all the laundry, but there's just two of us, so that's OK. I never knew there were cleaners who provided 'wash/dry/fold' until I met my husband... it's a NYC thing! So, a different life here, very different from how I grew up where there was a division of labor, but the whole work load was shared... As a recovering co-dependent, I am trying to make boundaries every day!! I'm doing better at it.
Wishing all a great AF Tuesday. May we be well...

Re: Motivated in May
Greetings friends,
We had another perfectly lovely spring-like day here, very nice! Now we are being warned about a heat wave (90+) for the next 3 days, ugh. I am never ready for heat & humidity.
Star, you sound good, glad things are working out for you.
YB came home with 2 cubic yards of mulch in his trailer yesterday & that won't even begin to cover everything, ha ha! It's really easier to have them come with the dump truck & just dump it all at once on the driveway. I am not going to worry about it until the weather gets back to normal.
Cyn, so your husband & SD are not used to sharing household chores. Well, that can be remedied, ha ha!! If it takes a village to raise a child then it certain takes all the family members to keep the household working smoothly. I was raised in a house with 3 brothers, we all had jobs & boy there was no choice but to get them done.
Take it slow with them but let them know that you are not in service for them You need the time & the energy to take care of yourself too
Pauly, sorry Louie is sick again, poor kid. Is he around lots of other kids at preschool or anything? They really can be germ factories.
Chewable vitamins & lots of sleep is the way to go.
Have a nice night everyone. I need to get outside & close up the chickens, it's almost 8:30 & their bedtime.

Re: Motivated in May
Good morning all...
I was not able to get outside things done I cut my finger when I was chopping veggies. Darn. Other than that nothing significant. I was invited to a lunch in June with the people from exercise class, so making friends is an ongoing project for me. Lots to do today, tomorrow is D-Day.
Lav, hope your day was good.
Cyn, busy day, like how you shop around for good prices with health care, good for you. Your take on your husband is interesting. Knowing who he is makes it possible to manage your relationship in a healthy way. I do the same with my husband. As his daughter is not in a relationship, I see where she needs you for support. Reminds me of my son. Without that significant other, life can be lonely.
Pauly, poor Louie, hope the little guy feels better. Like that you made a plant place, I bet it is nice.
Have a good one.

Re: Motivated in May
Lav, I missed your post, still waking up. I wish I could get that much mulch, but when we moved we got rid of our wheel barrow, no room for it, no shed. So, I need about 12 more bags, but with my finger hurt, (I really cut it) it will have to wait. It is really hot out, I had to put the air on. However, it is supposed to cool off a little and rain in the next few days, so that will probably come to you too.

Re: Motivated in May
Morning all -
Star, so sorry about your finger - I had a bad cut a couple of months ago and it really slowed me down... took part of the nail, etc. The nerves in that fingertip are still regenerating, so healing comes but it might be slow. Good luck! Yes, we are a main source of emotional support for SD, but honestly she's in her forties and has to get a life. She's just moved into an apartment complex (with my help because she has no friends!) with lots of social programs and common space, so I hope she'll get a few friends that way. Crossing fingers -
Lav - I should get a load of mulch as well, but for now I'm doing the bag route - it's much easier for me to handle on a hilly property. I'll have to hire some muscles to shovel and load the wheelbarrow and drag it up the hill... I did that last year, and it is not a repeater!
Pauly, I love the sound of that garden sanctuary - I 'll look that up. And yes, maybe that will be the impetus for your quit with the smokes! All the reading I am currently doing really has a lot to say about how we introduce acidity into our bodies and how damaging that is. I'm learning a lot about alkalinity and bones, moods, the whole nine yards.
Well, I felt kind of bad about yesterday's post because it cast HB in a bad light... Previously I was in a long relationship with someone who was ultra capable and shared all duties, but he did not respect me and was very judgemental and after years of daily falling short of his expectations, I had had enough. So, I'll take the love and gratitude of a sweet and generous and supportive man any day. He's a little nuts, and totally random abstract, and yes, that makes my life a little off-kilter, but it's an OK price to pay. It's just getting used to being around a random tornado that's hard for me! Things will settle out. But I had to laugh - yesterday's adventure was helping him get his docs together to renew his license (which somehow seemed monumental), and then he wanted to swap out a modem we bought, return the old modem and the cable boxes to get newer ones, etc. I helped by labeling the cord before he disassembled, and called him before he got too far away to tell him he forgot the modem that he was returning, ha! Things went downhill after that - we currently have internet, but cable isn't working and neither is the phone! So much for my experiment in not getting involved, ha! Oh well it will all work out in the end. Really kind of a comedy of errors!!
Wishing all a light heart - the heat is coming this way, but I am cherishing the cool morning air at the moment. Happy AF Hump Day.

Re: Motivated in May
Evening greetings friends!
Yep Pauly, today is Wednesday already. This morning YB thought it was Saturday & wanted to know why I was dressed to go to Curves, ha ha!!!
Kids are little germ factories & they do pass the germs freely. I hope Louie is on the mend.
Star, sorry about your finger. I cut myself so often in the kitchen it's not funny. I really do not trust myself with sharp objects anymore
The heat & humidity hit hard today & I really felt sorry for my old dog. She wanted to stay outside but I insisted on dragging her inside for the AC.
The mulch project will have to wait until the cooler weather returns possibly this weekend. The mulch is just fine sitting in the trailer. I take it the baby is now due? Exciting!!!
Cyn, sorry, I didn't mean to be a drag about husbands. I just get to resenting the grumpy old man routine, if you know what I mean. I put a lot of effort into maintaining a positive attitude around here & hope that it serves some purpose!
I am definitely on board with the alkaline diet. I am doing it for my bones but I think it just makes me feel better all around. So we aim for 80-20 most days & just do our best, right?
It's not so hard if you are eating at home but it can be difficult when eating out.
I made arrangements for my blood draw for Friday morning, picked up the correct paperwork today, oh boy! Such drama, ha ha!
Wishing everyone a peaceful night!

Re: Motivated in May
Good morning...
Lav, yes today is the day the baby is coming and I am so excited. She should have him in the morning, so we will get there about one, pick up our grandson and make our way to the hospital. My daughter is ready, had the baby's room so cute, he is very much wanted and loved already, we are truly blessed. Regarding husbands, I think we all have challenges in managing them, even though that sounds controlling. I remember my grandmother, mother and aunts discussing how you manage husbands, let them think they are making all the decisions, then laughing about it. So, I guess it is a tradition in my family. LOL. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. I think most of us just want a good friend as a life partner, I know I lucked out. Are we perfect, no, but we are able to talk about things and let alot go, and that is important. hey, special prosecutor, 45 is such a mess it cannot be ignored any more. I hope there is follow through.
Cyn, I did not think you put your husband in a bad light, just explained how it is. We all have different marriages, and that is OK, as long as it is good with us. I often think about how we have unique abilities and gifts that we share with the people in our lives. I agree that love, kindness, tolerance is so important in a relationship. I felt sad hearing about your SD, my son is like that too. He has friends from the past, but has not made any new one friends here, and is trying to find his place. Very hard to be an adult's emotional support, but there you have it. My neighbor is a 40 something woman and I have been reaching out, but she does not follow through and I think that is the reason she is alone. She told me she has no friends here, but if you work, come home and stay in your house, not even answering the door, it will be hard to get to know people. She was supposed to come to the book club with me me and cancelled last minute, kind of annoying. So, if she wants me to watch her dogs, she will have to find me and let me in. Hope she does, those dogs are sweeties.
Pauly, how fun to find a tomato plant! Sorry Louie is sick, kids do trade germs all the time. Yes, my finger bled alot and I hit it yesterday and it started all over again. It is a deep cut and will take time to heal, darn it. I made a great salad last night: avocados, tomatoes, vidalia onion, olive oil and a little salt and pepper. My son came over and it was gone. Easy to make and good too. We cooked out burgers and made sweet potoato fries, so mostly veggies. It was a windy day here, now rain is in the forecast for the next 4 days. Hope you are doing well.
I will not have access to internet tomorrow till late so may not be on till Saturday. Hope all is well and have a great few AF days.

Re: Motivated in May
Morning all -
Star, wow things have sure changed in the baby department, now they can plan the births! No more of the crazy running to the hospital at the last moment? How great that you are there to help make everything work... I keep thinking of Lav's words, that 2 kids seems to really multiply the duties! Your daughter is lucky to have such a great mom. Part of your neighbors' issues may be social anxiety syndrome... that's part of it for SD. She just gets very anxious meeting people (plus she's very judgemental!). She has an adorable poodle that I think will be her 'way in'... maybe the dogs will be the same for your neighbor.
Pauly, I love the thought that a tomatoes reseeded itself. That's a good omen for you! Sorry about Louie, hope he gets better soon.
Lav, you win the award for 'managing' a spouse situation... very few people in the world have stuck with the challenges you have faced. You are a lesson in boundaries and patience. You weren't a drag about husbands, just realistic, ha. I don't think I could live with negativity of that level... you are a brick. I am getting a special feedback 'watch' for HB for father's day... he finally admitted that he has no clue about when he's stressed... he just acts out. I figure Awareness creates Change, so this biofeedback watch will at least alert him when he's spinning out of control. I was hoping for an all-in-one biofeedback leads to meditation/breething/exercise, but those are super expensive. Maybe he can download a meditation app that can be his new go to. This is new territory for him!
Well off to an early client this morning. Supposed to be 92 degrees today - good thing I left in some screens last fall! I have the door screens and windows open now, trying to get cooled from yesterday's 88 degrees. I'm looking forward to the cooling trend this weekend.
Wishing all a cool AF day ---

Re: Motivated in May
Good evening friends,
Hot again today & tomorrow too, ugh. At least the weekend is supposed to be decent!
Star, I imagine you are exited beyond belief, grandma of two
I've always believed YB has the ability to be a good friend. Sometimes it seems he is & other times not so much. I think I have a tendency to be very honest & expect the same from him but it's not so easy for him. He spent his childhood hiding his feelings from his parents & just never learned to grow out of that, if that makes sense. I was always amazed that he would tell our kids to be honest with us & they wouldn't get into trouble. Why couldn't he apply that same message to himself? These are the things I wanted him to work out with the shrink back in 2003, obviously he didn't. Oh well. I keep a small amount of hope alive but I no longer hold my breath, ha ha.
Pauly, we always have 'volunteer' tomato plants popping up. There's usually so many but they don't usually grow any decent tomatoes. I hope yours fairs better
There always seems to be things in the dark that my smaller dog has to bark at - it's a spring thing. Do you remember me mentioning several years ago that I heard strange noises one night outside my bedroom window & found out a few days later that a deer had given birth there?
Cyn, the biofeedback watch sounds interesting! I hope he has fun learning all about himself I wonder if something like that would help my grandson recognize his behavior when he is spinning out of control - interesting.
I hope your day with your client went well.
Well, I am scheduled for 9:30 am for my bloodwork - let's hope it gets done this time.
Wishing everyone a peaceful & not too hot night.
