mornin all...howzwee today then?hope all well...started raining here again..that really fine stuff..peskies want to come out and play...no mad projects on the go today...so lets have a brew...

glad yb is getting better Lav...obviously one of the main points is the dressing and the professional and caring way it is applied ...I ll send you my address for the cheque...

Julie had a long talk with her dad last night....not sure it did a great deal tho...

yo g ....hows you ma man?

tt..sent you a pm..but can only reiterate what Lav said..we came here to stop drinking,we did it,or are in the process of..ergo anything that impacts on that focus is game on for discussion here..so thats it...no burden no moan no nothing ..its about help and support..I am here bcause of that ..so is each and every one of us...hows other half?

Pauly ...on the head gal!! free therapy..ha from a mad Scotsman who spends his life talking to rabbitz and putting frogz in flower pots?yep that works...hope you and family are doing ok..as can be..

Ppqp......thinking of you ...stay strong in what you have to face..I there a positive?quite easy for me to say..having nothing to do with it but yes...Chrissy brought the plight of homelessness to the front ..a lot of folk have donated time and money etc thru Chrissy sent me..so how many has she helped...it may sound skewed but try and take comfort in that..thinking of you ..as we all are.

    28 years Sam..congrats..

    Hi Det ..hows you today?

    right crap jokes time...

My mate is so tight. He got himself tasered by the police so he could charge his iPhone.

A man goes to a female dentist to have a tooth extracted.
She pulled out a large syringe to give an anesthesia shot.
“No way, no needles! I hate needles!” the man exclaimed.
So she started to hook up the nitrous oxide tank, and the man said, “I can’t do the gas thing.
Just the thought of having a mask on my face suffocates me!
The dentist then asked the patient if he had any objections to taking a pill.
“No,” he says, “I’m fine with pills.
“So the dentist gave him two little blue pills and he swallowed them.
“What are those?” he asked.” Viagra,” she replied.
“I’ll be damned,” said the patient, “I didn’t know Viagra worked as a pain killer.”
“It doesn’t,” said the dentist, “But it will give you something to hold on to when I pull your tooth out"

      Re: w/c 18th

Seems like so many here are dealing with really tough things. I really wish life didn't deal out these hard blows. However, one thing I know is that rarely does anyone not get dealt a few of these throughout their life. I guess what made me see a lot of this was going to Celebrate Recovery. They had different groups and I would visit around to them all. The one thing I really liked there was the level of support and love that was given regardless of what someone was facing. That place truly holds a special place for me. Like anything not all groups were created equal---the Wednesday group was much tighter and had more depth than the Friday group. It is a place that I should consider going back to and integrating myself into.

Pauly I can't imagine what you are going through. I can't know what it is to lose a sibling like that. One thing I know is that you are not alone. There has to be somewhere where there is someone who dealt with this and can help you through it. Like drinking and most things, people can't know unless they have walked in your shoes. Unfortunately, many have. We think we are dealing with it, grieving it---but there really is no handbook on this shit. Even though I am sure there is a book somewhere, I am a huge proponent of having f2f with people who really know.

TT--you certainly are not going to bring anyone down. I do understand not wanting to post or what to post. It all just sucks. Careers have changed so much in the last 10-15 years. There is no linear path as there was in the past. And when one gets knocked off the linear path it can really mess with you. I never really thought I identified with my career as much as I did. But if one really thinks about it--we go to school, get into the field and spend enormous amounts of energy being successful in it. It took me a long time to unravel that. For me it was a good thing. My field was virtually dying and getting more stressful. Now I work to earn money to pay bills. I have no attachment and if any of my "jobs" ended tomorrow---I would find a new one again without attachment. I guess what I am really saying is that the new reality is that anyone can have a job disappear tomorrow. As much as we say its a "job", for many of us it is almost who we are. We don't know who we are without it. However, when you are working for someone else none of us has control of what will happen....even if we have been going along smoothly for 20 years. None of this is what you want to hear I am sure. Most of it we know intellectually, it isn't until we have to wade though the shit--do we really know. That identity had a sense of control over me, much like drinking. I put a lot of effort into that career and none of it was wasted. I still have the skills, I just had to redirect them.

Life is very much like playing Jenga. You can work to build it up to have it fall apart due to any sort of shitty thing happening. Much like getting sober, you get up and build again and again until you have found your path.

I like that I have varied gigs. I like that I have learned a whole new skill set of selling on-line. If anything, I learned that having one source of income that was dependent on an employer is a dangerous game to play these days. My whole family depended on my income and when things went south, that sent me in tailspin like no other. One that I don't care to revisit. Which is probably why I am so adverse to getting a new corporate gig.

Anyways...that is my 2 cents for now.

Mick---I have never watched Downtown Abbey. Don't tell anyone

Tells me that I need to have my guard up for a couple of days,I am not letting that SOB get into my life again, Mick,I have a bald pepper plant, a bald tomato plant, sticks of squash and carrot plants in zee garden think I'll focus on a rock garden instead haha,I bought the seeds from the dollar store maybe they were old cuz the plants weren't very hardy like they usually are, kinda thin and not very green before the transplant, much love to ALL and I hope today is a peaceful AF one for us all

              Good evening Abbers,

Hot & humid here once again with more rain due tomorrow. Yes, there are tiny mushroom like things popping up in the grass, ugh.

Mick, if YB would stop playing with that dressing I wouldn't have to keep reapplying. I'm thinking about putting a mitt on his other hand so he can't mess with the dressing anymore, ha ha!!!!
I watched my grandsons today & they had a blast outside with these 'Super shooter' water things I picked up at Walmart.

SF, I have to agree with you, the non-attachment thing to our jobs & more is really big!!!
That was a lesson I had to learn myself several years ago & it was a good lesson.

TT, thinking about you & hope everything is OK.

PQ, thinking about you of course & wishing peace for your family

Pauly, dreams can be helpful if we respond to them properly. Take your own advice & stand with your zero tolerance to AL policy

Det, you sound good so stay that way!!!
Think positively & have a good interview next week.

Hello to anyone else checking in & have a nice night everyone!

These could apply to a lot of folks!!

QUOTES FROM BRITISH MILITARY ANNUAL PERSONNEL REPORTS
                  1. His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of curiosity.
                  2. I would not breed from this Officer.
                  3. This man is depriving a village somewhere of its idiot.
                  4. This officer can be likened to a small puppy - he runs around excitedly, leaving little messes for other people to clean up.
                  5. This Officer is really not so much of a has-been, more of a definitely won't-be.
                  6. When she opens her mouth, it seems only to change whichever foot was previously in there.
                  7. Couldn't organise 50% leave in a 2 man submarine
                  8. He has carried out each and every one of his duties to his entire satisfaction.
                  9. He would be out of his depth in a car park puddle.
                  10. Technically sound, but socially impossible.
                  11. The occasional flashes of adequacy are marred by an attitude of apathy and indifference.
                  12. When he joined my ship, this Officer was something of a granny; since then he has aged considerably.
                  13. This Medical Officer has used my ship to carry his genitals from port to port, and my officers to carry him from bar to bar.
                  14. This Officer reminds me very much of a gyroscope, always spinning around at a frantic pace, but not really going anywhere.
                  15. Since my last report he has reached rock bottom, and has started to dig.
                  16. She sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.
                  17. He has the wisdom of youth, and the energy of old age.
                  18. This Officer should go far, and the sooner he starts, the better.
                  19. In my opinion this pilot should not be authorised to fly below 250 feet.
                  20. The only ship I would recommend for this man is citizenship.
                  21. Couldn't organise a woodpecker's picnic in Sherwood Forest.
                  22. Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap.
                  23. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
                  24. Gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn't coming.
                  25. Has two brains; one is lost and the other is out looking for it.
                  26. If he were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week.
                  27. Got into the gene pool while the lifeguard wasn't watching.
                  28. If you stand close enough to him, you can hear the ocean.
                  29. It's hard to believe that he beat 1,000,000 other sperm.
                  30. A room temperature IQ.
                  31. Got a full 6-pack, but lacks the plastic thingy to hold it all together.
                  32. A gross ignoramus, 143 times worse than an ordinary ignoramus.
                  33. He has a photographic memory but has the lens cover glued on.
                  34. He has been working with glue too long.
                  35. When his IQ reaches 50, he should sell.
                  36. This man hasn't got enough grey matter to sole the flip-flop of a one legged budgie.
                  37. If two people are talking, and one looks bored, he's the other one.
                  38. One-celled organisms would out score him in an IQ test.
                  39. He donated his body to science before he was done using it.
                  40. Fell out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.
                  41. He's so dense, light bends around him.
                  42. If brains were taxed, he'd get a rebate.
                  43. Some drink from the fountain of knowledge; he only gargled.
                  44. Takes him 1.1/2 hours to watch 60 minutes.
                  45. Wheel is turning, but the hamster is long gone.

                    Re: w/c 18th

Mick you certainly will be one of the last to enjoy a long career that comes with benefits after you retire. We got sold a bill of goods on the whole 401k thing. Here we have private and public prisons. Meaning that the state pays money to a company to run the prison. Then there are still public prisons run by the state. I have a friend whose brother is in prison and he thought he won the freaking lottery being transferred out of the private prison to the state run one. Even prison can be a freaking business and I can't imagine the things they can get away with when they want to make budget cuts.

Lav--it is something when you realize you aren't your job Even though I didn't particularly like the movie "The Matrix"---I certainly could relate to the concept. With everyone so focused on the bottom line these days, jobs certainly want to suck you dry---get every last ounce of blood out of you. Most of the job listings make me sick. It is what the upcoming generation has come to expect as normal.

My oldest got his job and promptly earned money to buy product to sell on-line. He looks at his job as a means to fund the business he wants to create. And he has already almost doubled his money!

While I have great respect for teachers, I don't think they are given the tools and curriculum to really teach our children the skills they will need. College degrees have become an expensive joke. When I moved to Nashville I really was surprised at the number of people that home schooled. Even in districts with outstanding standards.
Wasn't that just for backward folks? Turns out it is really a progressive inception. The pressure that is put on our kids to churn out certain grades, memorize material for ACT tests is unbelievable. Much like a business there is a ton of pressure on the teachers and staff to continually ensure the district ACT score is increasing---in a district where the students already perform well on those tests. The pressure just gets more intense every year as the score is expected to increase until every single student has a perfect score.

And we all want to know why every crappy coping mechanism is on the rise? The intensity and pressure that we have come to think is normal---is not normal.

Mae everybody, Mick I just love those bunnies, its cute how their coloring is the same but opposite SF,the schools here are terrible! NV has one of the worst rates in the country for education, the classes are overcrowded, I remember when the kids were smaller and I'd go to help in class there being 30-35 kids in the classroom, how the hell can a teacher teach that many kids? LB's SIL just got her masters and wants to teach but I guess there's no jobs in Portland so they're thinking about moving back to Vegas, wish it was LB insteaddad and sister are still in SLC,I wish he'd get a phone! I feel like buying him an el cheapo but I know it'll sit, unused, not charged somewhere in his house! PQ,my heart is with you today love wishing us all a nice AF Friday

I was norty last night and ate a bunch of icecream. yummo. sure was good after a long day in the sweatshop.
going to start teaching martial arts at the lake again starting tomorrow morn. it's been far too long and I'm really
                        looking forward to it.

Sunflower, our education system is indeed a disaster. Fed gov thinks just throwing money at it will make it better but
that's clearly not working. I like Germany's emphasis on trade schools and apprentice programs.... very practical.

so whatchu all doing for AF fun this weekend?

Checking in. All good here. 12 days sober and the plan is solid. I'm on antabuse for the first time. Began a week and a half ago, low dose and i know i won't drink on it because i'm not as desperate an alkie as i was when i came here in 2008. So this joint has helped me keep my mind on the job and in the loop. Happy as a rabbit in Micks backyard.

                            Hi TT. How are you?

                            Big waves to all.

                                MAE ALL...

Mick...apparently the squirrels love running along the top of the fence and then jumping into the neighbours fir tree. I think they do it just to bug the dogs. What a cute pic of P&J.

SF...I would love to know what your online business is. Any chance of you PM'ing me? With the boys still not working, 3 years now, it's really getting tough!

Pauly...thanks. They have "old" people phones. LOL Huge numbers and all it does is ring or you phone out. No other bells and whistles!

Det...that's great news about starting martial art teaching again and looking forward to it. One of the signs of depression is not wanting to do things you loved to do so that makes me feel good.

Gman...well done on the 12 days, getting ready for Xmas are you? I have never tried antabuse (too scared) but thought about often. I want to be a rabbit in Mick's backyard!!!

Haven't seen the Garden Party pics yet, we have professional photographers doing a timeline of this year's growing season, but will put some up when I can. Work is done, got my SIL's flowers watered (takes more time than watching the dogs). Heading out to Castlegar so probably won't be posting till Sunday night or Monday. I'll be checking Facebook on my phone but not going to attempt to type here, unless I need you all.

Hope everyone has a Wonderful Weekend.....:smile:PPQP
