        Good evening Abbers,

PQ, thinking of you with much love
Take care of yourself & we will indeed be here if needed.

Mick, your bunnies look like an old married couple in that they are starting to look alike, ha ha! They look great though
Hot, humid & rain off & on here but no big storms today. Yep, all this dampness grows lawn shrooms, ha ha!

G, Congrats on your 12 days - soon to be 14 & the magical 2 week point, good for you!

Det, good luck with your martial arts class, sounds like fun. My SIL is still helping out at a krav maga studio.......loves getting his butt kicked I guess.

SF, my son works for the fire dept in DC & he has the old fashioned benefit & retirement package, unusual these days. He can leave after 20 years if he wants. He has started his 13th year this spring & is busy studying for another promotion, bless him. Both of my kids graduated from college but neither of them went to work in their field of study. My daughter wnet back to school & graduated last summer with a second degree in yet another field - geez. I don't know what to think about my grandkids when they get to college age. Should they go or not?

Pauly, do you really think you are saving calories by switching frozen yogurt stores? I think they all get you hooked, one way or the other, ha ha!

Hello to the rest of the gang & wishing everyone a peaceful night.
I will be hosting my grandsons for an over night stay tomorrow night & find some way to keep them busy all day Sunday until they are picked up Sunday evening. Fun times!!

          Re: w/c 18th

Det-I am so all about the trade/apprenticeship path. It really should be the norm. I follow Mike Rowe, from the show Dirty Jobs---and he is spot on.

Lav-I know so many people getting degrees, not getting a job and then getting another degree to not get a job again. The amount of debt is outrageous. Then they find themselves working two jobs to pay off the debt. Personally, I have told both of my kids that I am not paying for them to go to college. I want them to think seriously about the amount of debt they are looking at, with absolutely no guarantee of an ROI. Too many kids run off to college because that is what has been force fed to them all throughout school. They are led to believe that college is the ONLY path to success. When in reality many successful people dropped out of college when they realized they were learning shit---and went to create amazing things. The one's that finished (like myself) and did have success will hands down tell you that their college degree taught them nothing in regards to what they needed for the job. Yet, jobs will require a degree for no real basis other than just a weed out process. Quite frankly those usually are not the jobs that are going to bring any sort of real happiness or security.

I recently heard a great interview, where the guy said that if his kids insisted on going to school that the entire time they are in school they will will doing an internship in that field. Mainly because who the hell really knows what they really want to do at 18, then they get a degree and either don't have the real skills for the actual job or realize they really didn't like the field at all.

He actually owns a wildly successful company himself. The way he hires certainly is not the norm. They don't even ask if the person has a degree or cares. One thing I thought was interesting.....he said that if these companies are going to insist on degrees they should have more skin in the game. Meaning the person gets hired based on soft skills, then the company pays for that person to take the courses that directly relate to that job. Businesses should be making the investment. Not the individual or the government.

Regardless of how you feel politically----does anyone think FREE college for kids was the answer? The country would have acquired a ton of debt, a lot of kids would have dropped out and then the ones who get degrees----companies still would not hire them!

Both my kids have read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". Which sent them into directions of taking courses on their own and reading books they never would have. They both realize it is about the skills they acquire, not the degree.

I think I am more vested in this whole education thing, since I have kids getting to college age----and I work with a whole bunch who were sold a bill of goods. So many are paying off student loans that they will never use. And student loans is one thing you can't file bankruptcy on. Which is crazy, because the loans are why they are so in debt in the first place.

PQ--I will be happy to PM you. How old are your boys? Maybe I am thinking that they are older than they are. Both my kids know that this is a place they can come if life gets shitty. Both know there is a limit on that though. I make them pay for things that most parents just whip out their wallets for. One thing that I always find interesting---is that stuff all of sudden isn't all that appealing when it is coming out of their own pockets. Like the smartphones that they thought were life or death) Suddenly those cheap flip phones are just fine.

Anyways....I think I realized why I have been feeling a bit more "joyful" these days. Its the sound of me stepping into my own skin.

Apparently it's a piece of cheap plastic which men put their genitals in.

                    Good evening Abbers,

I think things have settled down around here, geez. I said good night to the boys & half an hour later there was a 'kick fight' going on in there. Pop the retired cop broke that up, ha ha. Then there was a zombie nightmare going on...... OH BOY!!!

Thanks for putting that song in my head Mick. It sure fits tonight!!
Our weather has turned cooler & a lot less humid, thank goodness. So what are you buying us with that extra cash you're getting?? Lots of coffee I hope

SF, we actually made a deal with our kids when they were in high school. We told them we would pay for college provided they went to a school in our state (not paying out of state tuition). We provided a car for them to use but they had to work to pay for gas, books & extras. Now that deal was only provided if they stayed out of trouble, no arrests, no pregnancies, no bullshit. They both took the offer & followed thru. Believe me I sweat bullets for 8 straight years paying tuition but it worked out. I think college is way overpriced but there are things you can do to get a handle on expenses. And I agree that companies should help offset college costs.

                    Thinking about you PQ

Hello to Det. How did your class by the lake go today?

Hi there Pauly, how's the yogurt shop today> Ha ha!!

SK, great to see you. How are you feeling?

Hello to Sam & anyone checking in.
Have a nice night one & all!
