    Re: Sweet September

    Good morning...

Lav, it is super hot in the Midwest, very uncomfortable and in the 90s till at least midweek, yuck. The arthritis in my fingers is worse, I wonder if it is the heat and humidity? Sorry it is coming your way. I was not busy yesterday, left the exercise class I went to, it was too hard for me, I did not want to hurt myself. I am very cautious, not worth it to get an injury. Do you think it would be worth it to take the Fork over Knives online cooking class? I am interested in your opinion. I wish there was a class I could take in person, but do not know of any in my area. I am looking for things to do to stay busy, and although this would be at home, I want to learn to b a better vegan cook. Still working on losing weight and feeling healthy.

Cyn, seems my days are either super busy or not at all. Still working on finding balance and something useful to occupy my time. How have you been feeling? I know you were working on specific foods to build your strength. Reading anything good lately? I am ordering a book today called Finding Magic, A Spiritual Quest, by Sally Quinn, looked interesting about her life in Washington DC. Just looked interesting to me. Sometimes I don't want to download books on kindle, but want a hard copy. Any plans this weekend? I want to clean out the garage. I wanted to go hiking at a park I had never been to, but it will be in the 90s and too hot. Glad fall is here, the cooler weather must be right behind.

Hey Pauly, on your roadtrip? Let us know and hope you are feeling better.

    Happy AF Friday.

        Re: Sweet September

Hi guys - well, the latest strange thing here on the site is that even though I log out each morning, when I come back the next day I am still logged in! oh well -- whatever!

Lav, is YB now an official uber driver? Or do the Amish just know that he can be counted on... that's an interesting sideline of work for him! Given his line of work, at least people can feel safe! Thanks for the reminder about MSM - I am aware of it because some homeopathic vet recommended it at one time for boy dog's leg... I should look into it for him again. He is already on rimadyl, has been for years, but it's expensive and I would love to find some other means of pain relief for him. I am feeling pretty good - my pain is mostly from fibromyalgia, and when I hurt I know that I need to get moving to feel better. So yesterday I added in some light yoga at home, some breathing and meditation and a couple of short walks, I think all the travel last weekend left me sitting too much... I hope the MSM helps you - let us know!!

Star - your book sounds good - who is Sally Quinn? I am reading (slowly, because I just don't have the time right now) the excellent book 'All the light you cannot see'. What beautiful writing and gripping story, I can't read it at night because some parts are real page turners... and in this time of world unrest and talk of war, it's an incredible reminder of the moral dilemmas and the human cost. i think it won the National Book Award, or something prestigious. I always think of you and books together - your library doesn't need some volunteer or Board help? Or maybe the Reach out and Read program, putting books in doctor's offices for kids who otherwise don't get books? I also am a volunteer for Operation Paperback, which gets books to vets and their families here in the states and abroad. Check it out!

Pauly, I hope you are on the mend, and having a good trip if you are going on that now. Sending light ---

Yes, hot and humid here from Sunday on -- today is 85... Sunday 90... so strange. Well, onward! Wishing all a great AF day ---

          MAE.

Star that book will be good. I have read others by her. Sally Quinn is the wife of Ben Bradley who was Chief Editor of the Washington Post when his reporters Woodward and Bernstein discovered the Watergate break in.

Hi Pauly, when will you be leaving?

Lav, I love Uber and all the Uber drivers I have dealt with love their job too.

Can't go back to finish reading because I get the pop up DO YOU WANT TO LEAVE THIS SITE?

I've had the crud for about a week so I saw the doc and got meds for bronchitis.

Have a great Friday to everyone.

            Re: Sweet September

            Good Friday evening friends,

I guess I should clarify - YB is not a real Uber driver. Amish-uber is just a term I've been using to describe what's he's been doing this year to stay out of my hair & out of trouble, ha ha! But the Amish family (including their 8 sons & 1 daughter) have been relying heavily on him to transport them & their good to the produce auction. It is just incredible to see how much they grow on their farms & it all has to go somewhere. He has also driven them to doctor appointments & things like that. I'm sure it saves them a lot of time because taking a horse & buggy is a slow process. He even takes them to the bank & Walmart when they want to go

Star, that FoK online course is probably very interesting. You get some sort of certificate when you complete it I think. Maybe, just maybe you would feel like opening your own vegan catering business when you're done! How's that for a possibility?? I think it's something to consider, for sure!
Not exactly looking forward to this heat wave, yuck.

Cyn, Organic Sulfur Crystals & MSM Products - Happy Body Store does offer organic sulfur for pets. I may just look into it for my dog, she seems to be getting a touch arthritic at the age of 5 1/2.
Sitting too much is a killer for me too so I need to move around as much as possible. But, if I overdo it then my foot (with the old stress fractures) starts to act up. Oh boy.
I am doing OK on the sulfur crystals so far, sticking with a 1/4 tsp 2X/day to start then working up slowly to a full tsp 2X/day.

SK, bronchitis can be tough to get rid of sometimes. My daughter first got it in 1st grade & it has come back many times over the years & it really kicks her butt. Take good care of yourself

Pauly, I see you found the tacos in LA, ha ha!!! Have a wonderful & safe trip.

We went to a funeral this morning for a guy YB worked with at the PD. This guy retired in 1982 & just passed away a month before his 90th birthday. That's a pretty good long life I think & a good long retirement too.
            Wishing everyone a nice night!

              Re: Sweet September

              Evening all -

Back from the overnight in NYC... raced home from the train, fed the dog, grabbed a few things and got over to where my political group was holding a meeting with our Federal CT house representative, who is really strong and wonderful. I was responsible for all the sign-in sheets etc, so that had to get theire beforehand. It was great to hear her speak, but I folded my little tent early and got back here to feed myself dinner. Just cuddling with the pup on my office couch now, and hoping to get a second wind to tackle a big email project tonight and get it our of the way. HB will come home tomorrow for an overnight, and I want to do some work outside tomorrow morning before the weather gets too steamy.

Lav, balance, always balance right? Hard to find sometimes; I wish you still had the Curves machines to work out on to keep your foot stress-free. Good luck!

SK, I hope you start to feel better soon! Thanks for the backstory of Susan Quinn, fascinating.

Star thanks again for that book title, and I hope all is well with you - family again this weekend? Hang in there...

Pauly, I hope that you are staying warm in LA, ha! I can't believe that we are warmer here than LA! Wishing you safe travels.

OK, off to rest a bit then try to get this big project off of my shoulders...

May we be well and AF this Saturday night....

I am kind of waiting for some cooler weather to get here so I can really feel like moving around. I am a bit of a slug when the temp reaches 90+!

                  Good morning...

I thought I posted yesterday, I read your posts, but not sure what happened. Worked out and it was super hard, good for me, then ran to the store, library, and later a fun event at Pier One, with ideas for fall decorating. I got ideas, and came hope with my purchases, my living room looks great and I am happy. I love fall colors and with the neutral furniture, I can change it up. I just want fall weather, it is so hot, in the nineties. I watered my back yard for over an hour, those plants are still relatively new and this heat and no rain, well, they need the help.

Lav, nice that YB has something to do, and that you are hosting your daughter and family, have fun. My son came over for dinner last night and is invited today if he wants. I went over to his place and he is keeping it really nice, surprising what an update can motivate you to do. That made me happy.

Cyn, you are one busy lady, I looked up the volunteer organizations you spoke about, thank you. I realized I have never done anything like that and it is about time I started. My daughter also suggested I read to kids or do something with kids and books, I love both so much. I am changing my life and it takes time. I truly appreciate your ideas and input, you are active in a variety of organizations and busy and useful. Plus you meet people and I want that too. I don't want to feel lonely and useless.

Pauly, having fun on your trip? Hope so. Can't wait to hear from you, I know it is harder when traveling. Access and privacy.

Today super hot again, some errands to run and veggie spaghetti to make later in the day. I am going to roast the veggies, the add to the pasta and sauce. Leftover for tomorrow. It is so hot, I am avoiding cooking if I can.

                  Have a great AF day.

                      Good evening friends,

Had a great day with the family but we pretty much had to stay inside because of the heat, ugh!
                      Where is the cooler weather??

Star, I roasted veggies today too but also a big piece of pork for the carnivores, ha ha!
I did make a really good vegan apple cake that my granddaughter (and everyone else) loved. If you ever want to get into vegan desserts download a copy of 'The Joy of Vegan Baking' by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau Good stuff in that book.

Cyn, I imagine you had yet another busy day. Don't forget to take some 'me time' for yourself

Pauly, hope the vacay is going well/

                      Hi there SK!

                        Re: Sweet September

Hi there - late check in again for me.

Lav, glad that you had good family time -- and the cake sounds delicious. I was never a big dessert eater, but this grain-free, sweetener-free diet is provoking some real desire for something sweet and comforting. I do have some recipes for coconut flour desserts, I guess I would just make them with a banana...

Star - check out Reach out and Read! It sounds really good, I don't know much of how it works in the real world. But the satisfaction of getting books to underserved kids via a doctor's office is pretty cool. Or you could become an Operation Paperback volunteer like me and find paperbacks to go to the vets here and abroad, did I mention that one, sorry if I am repeating. I know they are getting major post- hurricane requests from families right now ---

Pauly , I hope your time away is good. I can't believe that we are hotter here than in Miami right now, sheesh!

SK, great to see you, I hope you are feeling better.

I am fighting something off again... Clearly my gut immune system is not functioning as well as it could. I'm finding a GI specialist to talk with to be tested for a GI inflammation thing. Stay tuned, sigh.

Got a couple,of things done on the land and garden - I worked early, so it was OK, but when I worked on the front garden I took off my long-sleeved shirt, and some terrible bug feasted on my arms and elbows! Honestly, it's something unfamiliar to my system, because these have turned into silver-dollar size swollen lumps, weird! And itchy! Finished up on my big email project late this afternoon, and now getting ready to go back to NYC tomorrow, if you can believe it. Thought I had a client and a doctor's appt, but the doc turns out not to take my insurance after all. But I had already committed to this client, so I'll go in and work with her, have lunch w/ HB and come home. Still will be a 7 hour day.. oh well, better take work to do on the train!

Wishing all sweeet dreams and a happy AF Monday

Lav, nice day for you, good, the dessert sounds wonderful.

Cyn, sorry you are not feeling well.

Pauly, hello on your vacation, have fun.

Pauly, welcome home. Sorry the bf was a pain, sheesh, he's not winning any popularity contests these days! I hope Kell is feeling well, and you too.

Star, that sounds like a good day!

Lav, I'll have to hope back in and see how your day went.

I didn't feel well enouh to travel when I woke up this morning, So I canceled going into the city. I was sorry - my client there was so disappointed, but we rescheduled for next Monday, so hopefully I'll be able to swing that. I have a very sore throat and feel knocked out, but a little better this evening. Crossing fingers! I finally found a decent GI doc that's in my insurance plan, so on Friday I'll be able to take the test I've been waiting for, and move forward with better information.

Wishing all well on this curiously hot, muggy night! Happy AF dreams.

Reporting in from the land of too much heat & humidity - yuck.
Trust me that the only reason I am roasting & baking right now is because the AC is still on......

Cyn, sorry you are not feeling well. I hope the GI doc can give you some answers.
I think you could bake up an apple cake like I did with coconut & maybe almond flours. I used a combo of unbleached white flour & oat flour. I like to experiment with recipes anyway, why not?

Star, keeping busy is what it's all about
I have started collecting a few gifts here & there because I have many birthdays coming up & of course Christmas before you know it too! See? There's always something to do, ha ha!
