    Re: Dec11

MAE ALL….things are winding down at work, nobody wants to be here. LOL All the Admin offices are closed starting next week but the Out of School Care programs runs next week. Glad I don’t have to come into work during the deep freeze! On the upside, they won’t be returning till Jan 9th.

Mick….We had a mild evening with temps rising to -2C overnight. That was our high at 5am and the temps been dropping ever since. It has been a bright and sunny day though. Down to -10 C tonight and the snow is supposed to start again over night. Taking advantage of the nice weather to get last minute running around done. I hope you can shake that cold quickly, that’s the last thing you need. Well, that explains the bomb site. LOL I’m starting to think I’d rather have the colder temps than this freeze/thaw cycle we’ve been going through. Makes the road treacherous at times. Hoping the bonding is going ok.

Lav…did the pierogi count get to 100? Mushroom & sauerkraut filling, haven’t tried those before. I’m a potato & cottage cheese gal myself. Yes, having a 2 week break at Christmas is wonderful. Gives me a chance to recharge.

TG…if I’m not posting from my home computer I tend to get timed out. I always copy what I wrote just in case. How many feet did your friends in the East get? I was watching some of the news pics, looks horrendous. Yes, you need to be in the country for that full wonderland effect snow can bring. My parents used to haul all 8 of us into the car and go downtown to see the lights. I don’t know if they even decorated the streets down there anymore. So far been keeping my head down. 2 more sleeps to go.

Payday today, going to have to make this one last through Christmas. Going to go all out and buy a turkey this year. Been craving turkey soup and I love left over turkey sandwiches. Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

      Re: Dec11

      Good evening all,

The pierogi count = 91. Didn’t have enough dough left & didn’t feel like making another batch so I’m happy with what i have in the freezer. We just ran out for a bite to eat & drove thru the Christmas lights display at Herr’s Snack factory which is nearby : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji6JcGAfiOE

Cyn, we’re expecting a ‘wintry mix’ here tomorrow. Sounds like a wet mess for sure. Overnight temps are in the low 20’s so who knows what we’ll get.
Davey entertained himself pretty much while I was working in the kitchen & Luna spends half her day outside but always wants back in overnight (don’t blame her). There’s still one kitten from her. First litter hanging around & I put food & bedding out for that one too. That’s wonderful that your cousin is enjoying going out with you.

Slo, starting your day with a 5 month old & ending it spending time with your mom is very cool. It’s good for all of you.
My FL friend with the injured son is not the pickle ball crazy one, Lol. She just texted. Me a while ago that she tested + for Covid this morning, ugh but her son & everyone else she’s been around this week are all negative. Guess I better be on the looKout myself. I do have a birthday coming up on the 19th. Our daughter is treating us to lunch & a local theater production of Sound of Music on the 17th. Should be lots of fun

Mick, hope it’s not the Man Cold, haha!!! Feel better soon.
We had 2 deer in our front yard this weekend. Obviously they didn’t know Matilda the crazy half beagle lives here haha!
      Liked the ‘chicken sedan

PQ, I almost made it to 100, darn, haha!! I will have plenty for the holidays.
Keep your head down at work, don’t volunteer for anything, the weekend is almost here. Stay warm!!!

Hello to all & wishing everyone a nice night!

        Mae all,

Well between weather and driving and rabbits and kids and babies and mothers and daughters and sons this is thread casts a wide net.

Lav, 91 sounds perfect! 100 would have been too many... 😉. Glad all the kittens and cats are settling in. Maybe Davey is outgrowing gnawing on your hands?

Mick, so cold for you!!! Good luck keeping warm - it sounds like have your hands full with the hutches, keeping them warm, hay, etc. You are a wonderful caretaker! Haha - agnostic/dyslexic... I laughed out loud, thank you!

PPQ, so very cold for you! I can imagine you are counting the hours... I love your Turkey plans... enjoy.

SLO, I ditto Lav; starting out the day with the little one and then helping your mother, way to go! Take care of that knee in the cold...

This AM I went to my place to help feed the homeless ... I’m glad I went early, as there were lots of folks missing, so a few of us worked double hard... I came home and had a little nap - that work was very intense...! I’m putting out a few ornaments here and there, no tree... I am satisfied with one little bright spots here and there...
        sending all good wishes!

          Re: Dec11

No “wintry mix” today -just rain! That made it much better for all the driving I did today. The senior apartment complex for my mom was pretty nice, and a possibility. It was fun being out & about.
Yes, I actually did find it very nourishing yesterday to get to spend the day with family members young & old!

That Herr’s Christmas light display is fabulous, Lav! Well worth seeing. Thanks for sharing.

I worked in the Polish section of the city when I was a young adult, and there was talk of pierogies there at Christmas time amongst my co-workers.

That’s a lot of standing you are doing to feed the masses, TG. Plus the intensity of concentrating and keeping things moving on the “assembly line” -especially while working short-handed. I’d need a nap afterwards too!

It’s not easy to stretch a paycheck through Christmas, PQ. So many extra expenses can crop up at this time of year! The turkey should be well worth it though, producing several delicious meals. Are you from a family of 8 kids?!

85 jokes in one go, Mick!?! I like butt quack -and it’s neighbor hippo & zippo! So basically it was Bonnie messing up the house! Hope your cold is short-lived.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

hiya all..how are we then? -9 here last night ,everything outside frozen up ...the taps were frozen open in the van too.I had a bottle of fizzy pop in the car ..it exploded ..also the washing up liquid in the van froze ..redid tthe fencing in the garden for the rabbits ...three separate fences ,so they cant get through or push the fence to bite each other .25 years in the prison service to learn about fencing in rabbits .not so much snapping and snarling today .bearing in mind its only really 2 days it is pretty positive ..he has got really small legs ,I think Im going to have to build steps when he gets settled in .

hiya Slo how are you today then?glad the apartment is on the possible list for your mum...rather have rain than this cold weather where it all freezes up .

hiya teegee how are you?well done to you helping the homeless ..it winds me up that governments should be doing this and it falls to charity .Yep very cold over here.....both hutches have got warm mats in them now.

hiya Lav .well done on the peirogis Well done you ,nearly 5 score ,no more dough, needed 9 more ..those lights look pretty good .Did you get the wintry mix?We certainly didnt .how are you doing ? did you test for covid?Ive still got a sore throat snotty and headache ..I think this is the very very serious manflu. Nurses have gone on strike here today for the first time ever.

hiya ppqp how are you doing? hope all is good ..yep like you I usually copy what I do though sometimes I get a bit smart with myself and dont bother ...thats when it usually goes wrong.I feel a lot more positive about the bonding than I did yesterday.
turkey soup ,curry ,salad the possibilities are endless ..

thats it ..take care folks .

              Hey kids,

Pouring like crazy all day but no snow or ice & it’s very windy. The local schools jumped the gun & cancelled school so I guess the boys were happy haha.
Gots lots of things done, wrapping, etc since I was housebound all day. We now have about 1.5” of rain.

Cyn, nice of you to volunteer your time again. That is hard work, a nap afterwards is perfectly acceptable.
I like the idea of minimizing the decorating at this point. We probably wouldn’t have bothered with the tree if we hadn’t had help, Lol. It gets a little harder every year to drag all that stuff out & put it away a few weeks later. Davey has been finding interest in toys & following Luna around so my hands are healing nicely

Slo, that’s great the senior apartment was nice, hope your Mom can move in after the holidays if that what she wants.
Yep, the Herr’s lights are very cool every year, just in the next town & it’s free to drive through the display, great for the kids. Pierogi was the mainstay of our Christmas eve dinners because they were meatless back in the old days. We eventually moved away from all the harsh Catholic stuff & started adding meat to the meal, haha! You can never have too many pierogi!!!

Mick, I think I may need your help finding a way to keep my do out of the cat food. I think she’s gained 40 lbs in the past month eating all that high caloric kitten & cat food haha. I have a real sneaky half beagle on my hands, very food centric to begin with of course. Good job getting your rabbits situated, hope the manflu doesn’t stick around too long. I’m not testing for Covid at this point. I’ll see what develops if anything.

PQ, hope your day was A-OK

Hello to all & wishing everyone a nice night.

                MAE ALL…

Lav…I agree with TG, 100 would have been too many. LOL The Christmas light display is fabulous. Thanks for sharing that. One more sleep and I’m done. I will have to find something to do tomorrow to help make the day go by faster. Glad your hands are healing.

TG…so glad I don’t have to get up and go to work with that deepfreeze coming. Monday morning will be -28C/-18F. We are looking at windchills close to -35C/-31F. I bet you worked double hard at the homeless kitchen. Good job.

Slo…I haven’t cooked a turkey for several years now. I think having the extra time off before Christmas has inspired me. Yes, there were 8 kids in my family. We would peel a 10lb bag of potatoes for supper every night. Took me forever to figure out I didn’t need that many after I moved out. LOL

Mick…I’ll take your -9 any day. Sorry everything froze up for you. I’m glad you’re feeling more positive about the bonding, like you say it’s only day 2. I can hardly wait to see the little stairs you’ll build for him. LOL Love the Christmas tree, well done.

I think it’s good old baked mac&cheese for dinner tonight. Along with a tossed salad. Hope you all have a good night….:smile:PPQP

hiya everyone else hope you are doing ok ? its the weekend .,,...have fun ...ppqp ..no work .

The following questions were set in last year’s examination.
                  These are genuine answers:
Q . Name the four seasons
                  A. Salt, pepper, mustard and vinegar.
                  Q. Explain one of the processes by which water can be made safe to drink
                  A. Flirtation makes water safe to drink because it removes large pollutants like grit, sand, dead sheep and canoeists.
                  Q. How is dew formed
                  A. The sun shines down on the leaves and makes them perspire.
                  Q. What causes the tides in the oceans
                  A. The tides are a fight between the earth and the moon. All water tends to flow towards the moon, because there is no water on the moon, and nature abhors a vacuum. I forget where the sun joins the fight.
                  Q. What guarantees may a mortgage company insist on
                  A. If you are buying a house they will insist that you are well endowed.

                  A. When you get old, so do your bowels and you get intercontinental.
                  Q. What happens to a boy when he reaches puberty
                  A. He says goodbye to his boyhood and looks forward to his adultery. (So true)
                  Q. Name a major disease associated with cigarettes
                  A. Premature death.
                  Q. What is artificial insemination
                  A. When the farmer does it to the bull instead of the cow.
                  Q. How can you delay milk turning sour
                  A. Keep it in the cow. (Simple, but brilliant)
                  Q. How are the main 20 parts of the body categorised (e.g. The abdomen)
                  A. The body is consisted into 3 parts - the brainium, the borax and the abdominal cavity. The brainium contains the brain, the borax contains the heart and lungs and the abdominal cavity contains the five bowels: A, E, I, O, U...

                    Re: Dec11

My Internet was knocked out. I’m back online now.

And voila, Mick! Add some twinkle lights, and call it a Christmas tree!
All that experience at keeping prisoners separated, and the bunnies still outsmarted you!
Those are clever answers to the exam questions.

We’re not so cold as you are in England, and not as frightfully cold as you are in Canada, but we did have pretty snowfalls today and yesterday! The temperature drops for this weekend.

I’m glad you don’t have to go to work in that frigid weather either, PQ. It’ll be good weather to hunker down and hibernate inside for a couple weeks.
You must be quite a skilled potato peeler! I’m from a family of six kids.

Lav, I didn’t realize that the Catholic Church wanted Christmas Eve to be meatless too! I don’t think it was that way when I was being raised in it, in Vatican II times.
I probably will get an Almond Cow! Thanks for the tip.

I’m on my way to go up and babysit for the toddler grandchildren tonight, while they attend son-in-law’s work Christmas party.

Mick…another mild day for me but that all changes tomorrow. Not looking forward to this next cold snap. That’s too bad that the bonding isn’t going as well as you’d like. Bonnie always was the jumper wasn’t she. Hopefully you’ll finger something out.

Slo…I hope you have a great time babysitting.

                        Hey gang,

I’m working this evening since my customer finally dropped off all the things she wants monogramed for Christmas gifts.
Our rainfall total was nearly 2” yesterday, dry out there today & not too cold. Our son-in-law’s Dad is in the hospital & not doing well. He has chronic health problems, has been on dialysis for years & now has a MRSA infection that’s probably going to kill him. There’s a lot more going on too. Not sure of his age but he’s 80+. Not a great time of the year but it is what it is.

PQ, if family doesn’t come over as planned I’m going to have pierogi for a year, haha! Keep yourself safe & warm with that bodacious weather.

Mick, animals are smarter than we sometimes realize. Your rabbits are proving that to be true
Sorry about your frozen things, we haven’t had too many frozen nights here yet. I always worry about the chickens feet in that weather, the coo is unheated for safety purposes.
So a fibula is a small lie? Ha ha!!!

Slo, my Polish grandparents wouldn’t have changed a thing regardless of what the Vatican said. They were definitely old school.
I absolutely love my Almond Cow. I make almond creamer for y coffee & oat milk for cooking & baking & tons of other stuff you can make. The leftover pulp can be used in baking or it makes a wonderful chicken snack. They go crazy when I take a bowl out for them. Hope you had fun with the toddler crew.

                        Cyn, howdy to you too!

                        Have a nice night all!

                          Mae all,

Last evening I went to see a dear friend of my mother’s -she misses my mom so much... I ended up staying and fixing her dinner, then came home and just went to bed... cold and snowy all day yesterday.

Lav, so sorry to hear about your son-in-laws father... poor timing, but soon he will be free from all the machines and infections... sad. I hope you are getting a bit of a break now and then!

Slo, great that there is a place that is a candidate for your mom — she’s lucky to have you help her with this search.

PPQ, are you done yet? Sheesh, your temps!! Even here we will be well below zero for the holidays... ah well, it’s winter...

Mick, it sounds hopeful about the bonding... best of luck - and wonderful tree! I don’t even have a tree (and don’t miss it...) dome twinkle lights here and there...

                          Sending good wishes to all,

There are 5 Islands in a row. Parker the Paranoid Pirate has a ton of gold hidden on one of them.

During the day you have enough time to sail to just one island to find the gold.

But every night Parker moves all that gold exactly one island over (so if it was on island 4 it gets moved to either island 3 or 5)

What strategy can you use to have the best chance of finding the gold?

Is it possible to be sure of finding the gold?

                              Re: Dec11

                              Greetings friends,

Mick referred to my lack of heating here. Yep, the heater shut down at 11 pm last night & of course we didn’t notice until this morning. 59 degrees in here, cold bathroom floors haha! We are still waiting for a return call from our contracted service provider. I guess their 24/7 service doesn’t apply on weekends? Who knows? Luckily the wood stove in the basement is helping, current temp up here is 64 so it’s not all that bad. Just have to keep feeding the wood stove, that’s for sure. My kitten is making me nervous, has been very lethargic all day, no playing or anything. I kind of pushed his face in his food bowl a few hours ago & he did eat a little then went right back to sleep. Don’t know what the issue is with him. Still trying to get some embroidery work done too. Had to miss the Sound of Music show & dinner out with our daughter. We figured we better stay here in case the service company ever wakes up, bummer.

Cyn, your missions of mercy are just wonderful, so nice of you.
My son-in-laws dad was taken into the OR today & had his dialysis port removed due to infection. He is now a DNR but they are still trying to treat the infection & deal with his very low BP. That’s a lot for an older guy to deal with & he’s been confused too. Sometimes it’s more merciful to let people go when their systems shut down.

Mick, sorry about Julie’s SIL’s mom. I would wish my family to be sure that comfort measures are in place for me at that point. It’s a tough time of year, that’s for sure.
I guess you need something sturdier for the rabbit hutch since they do chew. The chickens don’t mess with the fencing at all, they’re not chewers haha.

Hello to Slo & PQ, hope you are both well.

Have a nice night all & stay warm

                                Re: Dec11

Oh, that’s really too bad that you had to miss the show and dinner out, Lav. But best to stay and feed the wood stove, and don’t miss a possible chance to get the furnace repaired. Good thing you have the wood stove! Your 24/7 repair service must really be a 24/5 service.

I had a nice time with my little grandchildren! It was easy, and they went to bed with no issues. Beckett is so sick though, with a very chest-y cough and an ear infection. Mabel just has a cold. It’s fun to see how much Mabel understands now, and she’s saying some words. Beckett likes ‘Paw Patrol’, and he loves helping his daddy. We decorated cookies today; the babies long enough for the photo op, and then I finished them. I don’t need to bake cookies; I can just help with theirs. And I don’t need a Christmas tree -I can just enjoy their tree!

The roads weren’t great with wind and snowfall, but I made it home now. Gas prices have come down around here!

Sad tales of dying in-laws. This is a hard time of year to have family members dying. That’s sad that Julie’s one won’t quite make her 60th wedding anniversary.
Lav, I’ll just bet son-in-law’s dad is getting confused if he’s not getting dialysis anymore. Your poor in-law kids: your DIL had that terrible tragedy too when her mother was killed. How is her dad doing now?

How delightful for your mother’s friend that she has you now for a friend, TG.

Smart to do the grocery shopping over lunch hour, PQ. And now, you’re free for a much-needed long break!

I like the flamingo joke and the meltdown one, Mick. And, what did the left eye say to the right eye!

                                Stay warm!
