Re: 29 Jan

Good morning!

Thanks for the heads up about first-of-the-month, Mick: I just texted young daughter “pinch-punch”, and I was first this month! We started doing that thanks to my British former sis-in-law.
It’s 3 degrees F here, but at least it’s sunny.
So far it’s working with the bunnies together for short periods …fingers crossed!
I love the nurse/patient joke, and the ‘Switzerland is a big plus’!
I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that you don’t watch football on the tele, since you’re far from a couch potato!

I misunderstood that you’re working half days, PQ; but you’re really working full days, but working from home for half the day. NoSmo day 3, here we come! Day 3 is typically a hard day, but maybe it won’t follow that pattern for you because you had that previous week smoke-free too.
My tires are low for air, so I might have to get them filled. I bet that’s a real danger in Canada where your temps go way low.

TG, I suspect it might be hard for your elderly friend to bathe at night when you’re there, and it might be easier for her earlier in the day to tackle that when she has more energy.
That is so cool that you and your dad’s cousin can connect over genealogy. I like how you are connecting with these people in their 90s while you still can.
I hope the sleep fairy visited you last night. I awoke at around 3:00am, but thankfully was able to fall back to sleep until nearly 6 am.

Terrible about your daughter, Lav! Special Education is a hard job. My daughter D1 gave it up too. She realized she couldn’t work a job like that and have a family of her own as well. An acquaintance of mine was assaulted by a kid that age too while working in Special Education, and she needed shoulder surgery to repair the damage.

Speaking of repairing the damage, I have repaired the damage with one daughter, D2; and still need to broach repairing the relationship with D1, after I got so upset and had some misunderstandings about having the extended family weekend Up North at ex’s cabin taken away. I have a better understanding of the situation after a couple conversations with D2. It sounded to me, the way D1 explained it, like this is what the daughters wanted; and yet they hadn’t talked to me about any of their misgivings, and went straight to their dad. I felt shocked and betrayed. But I guess really it is just ex’s decision, and not theirs. And it is largely based on my brother’s drunken behavior, and running into the garage with a 4-wheeler, and then driving home super drunk from the cabin, and then getting a DUI the next day. Ex has worries about liability. I can see that.

Had a good day with baby Huxley yesterday. I slept over the night before so I wouldn’t have to get up so early in the frigid weather to drive there. That worked out pretty well.

Re: 29 Jan

Good evening friends,

Getting colder here now, can really feel the difference. Friday & Saturday’s high temp will be 10-12 degrees. The wood stove has been lit just to help out the new heating system & keep the downstairs a little more comfortable for me when I’m down there working on something. I really want to try to get the last of the outside cats inside for the next few nights, it’s just too cold. We call her Penny, she’s from Luna’s first litter born last March.

Mick, hope you’re staying warm enough. Yep, those bulbs were marked way down & I was lucky enough to find them. We just used the bulb planter & dug all 18 of them right in, easy.
We had a very light coating of snow overnight & most of it melted off when the sun came out. My daughter is OK, just very pissed off, haha! Good luck with the bunny bonding.

Slo, my daughter took that job a few years ago when she got tired of the abuse heaped on them at the hospital. She’s a Physical Therapy Assistant & does direct patient care. Not all patients are pleasant or even a little grateful. She really is entertaining another career change, don’t blame her. I know how I felt after 28+ years of dealing with patients. Nothing is easy.
I’m glad you’re getting things straightened out with your daughters, that must be a huge relief. Miscommunications happen, glad yo’re getting some clarity. Sounds like your brother needs to stay home & not subject a large group to his behavior, that’s a shame.

Cyn, hello to you & I hope you’re having a good day.

Sam, Pauly & Det - hello!

PQ, I hope your energy is keeping up & your healing as well. Day 3 for you, yay!! Looks like that polar air is wreaking havoc everywhere, Brrr.

Have a nice night all.

MAE ALL...

Feeling a little weary today. Day started out ok but when I got to work I found out one of the childcare directors scheduled a meeting/training session with the boss in regards to setting up the Summer Camp Program. I was given 20 minutes notice, just ask me if I was impressed!!! Got through that (even though I had other things I was planning on doing this morning), showed a room to a potential renter (who only gave 7 days notice for the booking) who assumed she could get a permit and bring her own alcohol. Nope, we do not allow that and it is quite apparent on the inquiry form. She ended up cancelling the booking and I had no sympathy for her. Geeze. Then just had time to head to my family doctor's appointment for the discharge follow up check up.

The check up went really well, everything is on course and the wound is healing nicely. We are going to continue the Tramadol for another week as it's important to continue to increase my oxygen blood levels, which currently are at a level with someone without COPD. My lung exercises are really paying off. She stressed to not over do it and if I need more time off to take it. The boss and I will re-evaluate things on Monday.

The weather changed during the day and dropped to 1F with strong north winds and snow. Going to be short lived but it sure took a lot out of me going from Doctors to pharmacy then had to go to a different store for other meds. Something that should have taken 1 hour took 3. I was glad to get home.

Sorry for not responding to everyone's posts but just wanted to let you know everything's good and YAY - DAY 3.

Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

Mae all - sorry, another short one from me... I did the lunch for the food-insecure, then some other things cleaning up, got home and got ready for my elder time, cooked dinner, then took all over to her... I cleaned while she was in bed watching TV... later she cane out and we had a good dinner and conversation...
Got home about 8:30 so that was nearly 4 hours. Tired again, hoping for good sleep tonight!

Mick, sending good bonding energy.

PQ, go slow and take care! Congrats on day 3

SLO - glad you found out the “back” story of the summer stuff. You are entering a new phase, and that is good...

Lav, wow, Luna’s first litter was last March? Time flies. I am SO sorry to hear about your daughter... terrible that she has to endure that.

OK, off to bed, I can hardly keep my eyes open...
wishing all well -

Good morning! Another sunny day in the forecast!

Ugh, PQ: too much at work yesterday morning for when you’re still healing. And trying to get to all the stores while having to breath that icy cold air into your lungs is too much. I hope this morning is a calmer day at work.

Mick, Julie’s dollhouse is so gorgeous it takes my breath away!
Amy’s cat & kitten look much easier to bond than bunnies! Binky looks right at home with the other one.
I don’t know what D1 & her HB are going to name their new baby boy when he comes next month. We were all too vocal about opinions (both sides of family) when they were naming their other kids, so they’re keeping it a secret!
Mini-soda, she can’t control her pupils…haha!

Re: 29 Jan

I hope the sleep fairy visited you, TG, as she didn’t visit me last night. You would have had a “good tired” going after such a very full day. But a good day too, interacting with people, and enriched by conversation with your elder friend. I called a friend/old co-worker too last evening, and was enriched by lovely conversation. My friend is 81 years old.

I love daffodils, Lav. I had them planted at my old house. Penny might decide to become an indoor/outdoor cat too!

There are many sides to every story. My little brother who has developed the drinking problem worked for my ex-HB for 25 years at their family business, and he wasn’t treated all that well there. So he has the same built-up feelings of frustration, hurt, powerlessness, resentment etc. that I have after being married into that for 35 years.
Also, none of us could ever relax there at the cabin and enjoy it, because ex’s brother is so particular about everything, so ex-HB was always hyper vigilant and on the lookout for any potential nick or scratch that could upset his brother. He was always going around scowling while we all walked on eggshells around him.
So, I can see now that it is time to cut ties and move on, for everyone’s sake.

Re: 29 Jan

Good evening friends,

Gearing up for that blast of cold air. We’re all set as far as I can tell. I did manage to get Penny inside last night, it wasn’t easy & I ended up with a few scratches. She was scared, has never been inside any building. She’s hanging out in the laundry room with the other cats, bedding, food, water & warmth available

Slo, you have made a good decision to move on. Being around someone who has everyone walking on eggshells is ridiculous. That was my father & the reason I decided to get married at 19. I just couldn’t take that sh*t any longer. You will start new traditions as time moves on & will be much happier & more relaxed.

Mick, great cat pic, they look happy! Julie is a good home designer, the house looks wonderful.
I hope the bunnies give you a break soon, haha! You have done just about all you can do for them. I don’t know what my daughter has in mind as far as a job change. I just listen & keep my opinions to myself unless asked. She has a god head on her shoulders, she’ll figure it out. Just heard there’s a giant Chinese spy balloon flying over the US (over Montana where there’s several sensitive nuclear sites). They said it’s the size of 3 busses!!!! WTH??

PQ, glad you’re doing so well but be careful about wearing yourself out.
Are you using an incentive spirometer? They really get your lungs working. Keep doing your exercises
Don’t let them overwork you, put your foot down. I’ll send a nasty chicken up there to take care of anyone who misbehaves :hahaha:

Hello to the rest of the gang & wishing everyone a nice night!

MAE ALL...sad to say I caved today and had a smoke. Didn't buy a pack but a long time co-worker came by for a visit and I bummed a smoke. It made me dizzy and I didn't enjoy it at all. Back on track and will be picking up some of those lozenges Lav talked about to help with the break through cravings.

TG...I hope you got a good night's sleep last night.

Mick...wow, look at Julie go. You two have some real talent. The deepfreeze yesterday was short lived and the temps are on the way up. Hang in there with the bonding, you'll know when it's time to make a different decision.

Slo...good for you on deciding to move on. You won't regret that decision.

Lav...pretty soon the words going to get out to all the felines in the area that Lav's house is the place to be. Been watching the polar vortex head your way, hope it moves in and out quickly. Yes, I'm using the incentive spirometer and it's really making a big difference. Thanks for the nasty chicken offer, I'll use that as a threat. LOL

I do believe yesterday took more out of me than I realized. I wasn't feeling as well as I had been today. Boss and I actually had a couple of talks and he said you are not on any schedule. If you feel like leaving at any time just go. He is not concerned about tracking any of my time and knows how much I give to the job. So I left early, came home and had a nap. Felt much better after that and got back on my routine with the spirometer. (When I'm at work I don't realize how much time actually goes by without moving or doing the exercises.) Feeling back to myself now. It will be an early night and short work day tomorrow.

Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

mae all ..how are we today then? from a wet and windy Lancashire..this weather is pretty brutal.it kind of chops activities on the head like taking the van away ,and more so getting the rabbits outside.I have had Argyl since 15 Dec, and together outside for no more in hours than about a fortnight .Im conscious that he isnt actually ours .It is what it is .Weekend is here folks ...anyone got plans ?

hiya teegee did you sleep well? hope so ..yes as we get older we need more sleep....but in a different way ..instead of a block of sleep we tend to have lots of bite sized zeds .hope you have a good weekend .

hiya ppqp...how are you doing today? hope you are doing ok..So you had a cig?I dont know about anyone else ,but I found if I compared quitting drinking with smoking the latter was def hardest .that is where you have to use your willpower ..yes you have a lot and you know you have ...get creative..remember that wave crest with drinking ...the build up,the perceived need as you climb that wave ,you take the drink ,or the first draw of a cigarette, and thats it ,,down the wave you go.no prolonged enjoyment .satisfaction etc ,and as you said you felt dizzy and sick after. so ask yourself why did you need that cig ?physical or mental?Ive got a few ideas for you if you want? your health is prime .take it really steady.

hiya Lav hows you then today?hows the cat family doing?yep so you are collecting scratches too?do you need any wet weather to go with the cold ...happy to help ...you have a good weekend.

hiya Slo ...how are you doing?Your last line in the post ...says it all...cut the ties and move on...Life is too short to get wrapped up in everyone's ups and downs ..their actions /reactions affect you positively or adversely .go for it ....enjoy your life ..and thats it ..it is yours to enjoy not as a residue for everyone's woes and issues.. you've done 35 years of that..have a lovely weekend .

hiya everyone else, hope all is well.take care and have a good weekend .

It’s -9 degrees F out! Still sunny today though thankfully, before we get more cloudy for an expected long while.

It’s my life, Mick! I need to cut more of my mental and emotional ties. Enjoy my life!
I see better now how your miserable weather is negatively impacting your activities -like you can’t even take the van out! At least you got out detecting, once.
The bunnies are passively getting used to each other over a long period of time anyways, so maybe they’ll do better with each other by the time they can be physically together without a barrier.

That Chinese spy balloon sounds ominous, Lav. They have been slowly infiltrating us and taking over more & more for a long time now. Very scary.

PQ, yes, you can lean on others like Mick who have been through cigarette withdrawals, and have some strategies to share. Another one to PM could be available, who went through it just a few years ago.
Thankfully boss is fully supportive of your need to balance rest and healing with your job.

I enjoy hearing your news too, TG.

I apologized to D1 for overreacting. There’s not much else I can do after going off the rails emotionally. Just a lot of pent up layers of emotion etc. after a divorce., over many facets. Thankfully she & her HB are potty-training their own kid this weekend, so I don’t have to get involved in that like she had wanted me to. I really didn’t want to, and now I don’t have to!

MAE ALL…

TG…glad yesterday was a little less tasking for you. Work on cutting down that 300% but I’m glad you’re happy doing what you’re doing.

Mick…sorry your weather is brutal right now. We actually jumped up to 12C/54F today. I was trying to remember when you brought Argyl home and like you say it is what it is. I am going to have to get back to remembering the things I used to do when trying to quit drinking. Like “the wave” and making lists. I really have to talk to myself about the “perceived” need. Definitely no prolonged enjoyment. I would love to hear your ideas especially around habits.

Slo…glad to hear you got out of potty training. LOL Yes there are a lot of layers of emotion after a divorce but you sound like you’re on the right track.

Avail…good to see you, I’ve seen you on other threads over the years but now I basically stick to this one. I am trying to quit smoking after a health scare and am finding it tough. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Stalk and read away but feel free to join us too.

Lav…had a better day today energy wise and it’s no smoke D1 again. I am definitely done by noon so the ½ days may have to continue next week. Planning on just taking it easy this weekend. Will check in later to see how your day was.

Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all….:smile:PPQP
