Re: 29 Jan
Greeting friends,
Quiet around here today & that’s OK with me. I am determined to use up a giant pile of fabric scraps so I am in the process of turning them into hair scrunchies. I used to make them for my daughter & her friends back in the early 90’s. Now my granddaughter can take them & share them with her friends. That football game is on TV so you know where most people are haha! I can’t believe some folks paid as much as $7,000 a seat to watch it at the Linc - CRAZY. Eagles (Philadelphia) are ahead.
Mick, glad you got out for a walk, sorry you didn’t find anything. I guess your friend is happy with his find.
Cyn, you have been a busy girl! So nice of you to look after all the folks.
As far as the elder goes with the shower - it’s usually a combination of two things: 1. Fear of falling & 2. Fear of getting cold! A home health aide would be able to handle her & I hope there’s a shower chair available for safety. Even nursing home residents are required to shower at least once/week. There’s no refusing!! A shower 7 clean clothing always makes them feel much better
Good luck with your knitting project.
PQ, so glad you finally got home. Don’t resume smoking, just don’t. You don’t want to end up oxygen dependent & breathless doing simple things. Be good to yourself
Slo, hope your day was good!
Hello to Sam, Pauly & Det.
Have a nice night all!

Re: 29 Jan
Hi all,
I was having troubles with my iPad, and got that worked out now.
So lovely that you are sharing gentle, respectful, & authentic times with your cousin, and with your elderly friend, TQ. Hopefully the family can get a home health aide in to help her with bath time once or twice a week. It is tiring to go through a shower & drying & dressing at that age.
Glad you’re home, PQ! I’m surprised that they didn’t discharge you to home with nicotine patches supplied from the hospital pharmacy? I’m glad you got good care, and that the scan result was all clear.
Sounds like a good find for your friend, Mick! And you get a vicarious thrill of the hunt.
Lav, I saved all the scrunchies from the nineties for years & years. I finally threw them out…and not a month later Young Daughter was looking for scrunchies because they had come back into fashion!
I hope Pauly is doing ok after the tragedy in her life, and I hope Sam will dip back in.Last edited by Slo; January 29, 2023, 08:17 PM.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: 29 Jan
I kind of went off the rails, and am having a bad couple of days. My extended family has been going Up North for a long weekend at ex’s family cabin for decades. He said in the divorce proceedings that I could still go up there with the girls. So this past year I had the girls arrange my family’s weekend there, and we all went there in August. But now this year he told the girls my large family gathering was no longer allowed there. Only I am allowed to go there, for one weekend each Summer with the girls.
What do I expect in a divorce, but I am so bummed that he reneged like this. My nephews & nieces really look forward that touchstone in their lives, and I was hoping that he could see the value in keeping that going.
It has caused a rift with me towards some of the daughters, since they seem to agree with him.
I can see why my former sister-in-law felt the need to move to another state after divorcing ex’s brother. Just to get far away from it all. Actually, all six of his brother’s kids & step-kids all scattered around the country too, and none of them use the family cabin. My family actually likes it and has a long tradition there, which is why I was hoping they could be generous for one weekend each summer, and allow our kids & grandkids this time with my side of their family. But no.
I never liked the way I was treated up there anyways (no say in anything; I’m just expected to be the cleaner), and think I’ll just shake the dust off that place, and never return.Last edited by Slo; January 29, 2023, 08:43 PM.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

SLO, shaking the dust off sounds good. Life changes, nothing remains the same (no matter how much we want it to, and think it should 😉! Sometimes a better thing shows up when you open a different door. This must be hard, and I hope you are taking good care of yourself.
Lav, I love that you are making scrunchies - as SLO said, I guess things come back around in styles... I think the original “inventor” of them passed away recently... who would have thought it would become such a big hit. If Philly wins tonight, I’ll be glad you don’t live close to the city... 😉
PQ, here’s hoping your trip home is safe and you are healing well!
Mick, better luck next time... but those funds are always interesting! 👍
Another long day with elders... cooked part of a lunch and took it to my dad’s cousin... we are searching through genealogy together... she is bright in her mind, but today for the first time I could see how frail she is... then I did the math... she’s in her 90s too!
As I was leaving, I got a call from my other elder, who sounded a little out of sorts... but once I arrived she settled down and we had some food. Tonight she went back to bed as I cleaned the kitchen... maybe she is wearing down, hard for me to tell... getting over is definitely not for sissies!!!
Hoping for a full night’s sleep soon... not doing too well on that ... Lav, did you say b22 might help?
Wishing all well,
TG

Re: 29 Jan
MAE ALL…
First day back at work today. Talked with the boss and we’ve decided I’d work mornings in the office and afternoons from home. He is actually quite shocked that I want to come back to work. I need to keep active and have lots of energy in the morning. I get a little weary in the afternoons so this will work out well.
Mick…that was a quick post yesterday. Thanks for starting the new thread. Sorry you didn’t find anything but at last your friend did. The Polar Vortex that hit Saturday moved off Sunday night so temps this morning were an reasonable -7C. Neighbour had brushed off the car once this morning and son came out when I left to clear it again. I’m glad to hear you’re still getting the rabbits together, I hope they sort it out soon too.
Lav…great idea about making scrunchies out of your leftover scraps. I did finish off the ½ pack of smokes I had on Sunday. Picked up more patches, Nicorette gum and spray today. Did not pick up any more smokes, so today is day 1 for me. I was wondering how the spring craft fairs do. We don’t allow small/home businesses at our Christmas Craft Fair but am thinking of running a Spring Vendor sale where we allow all the small/home businesses. A little too busy with Spring programs this year but will think about it for next year.
Slo…the nicotine patches are free as long as you’re in the hospital. They will cover all meds that you are currently on if you get admitted. Once you’re discharged, you’re on your own. Those patches are not cheap! I was glad to see the results of the scan as well. Sorry your ex’s decision has caused a rift with you and your daughters. It sounds like shaking it off is the way to go. Time to make new memories.
TG…yup, got home safe and sound. I am taking Tylenol to control any pain, which only happens when I’m close to taking my next dose and cough. My shoulder is a little sore but I think it’s because I’ve spent 2 weeks holding my arm against my ribs. Just need to work those kinks out. You’re right, getting old is not for sissies. You take care of yourself, looking after the elders can take a lot out of you. Hope you can get a good night’s sleep soon.
Shout out to Det, Pauly and Sam. Have a good night all….:smile:PPQP

Re: 29 Jan
Good evening friends,
Decided on an after dinner run to Costco, such fun, haha. Easy to stock up on cat & dog food while we’re there too. I just bought such a huge jar of coconut oil I may have to put it in my will because it will take forever to use up. Looks like the Arctic air will be moving in soon, Saturday’s high will only be 19 degrees, geez.
Slo, I’m so sorry your ex pulled that shitty move on you. That cabin was a big part of your past but this is your chance to start a new tradition. Give it some time & see if you can find a new place to gather with your girls 7 grandkids. Give it some time but look around, you’ll come up with something nice. I started taking my daughter & granddaughter to the beach for a few days every summer, we had a great time. We haven’t been for a few years because of her work schedule but we are thinking about it for this summer. I love the ‘girls trips’. Hang in there
Cyn, you are the busy one for sure! If you can help arrange a home health aide for your elders that would be best. There’s only so much one person can do really.
90 yr olds definitely don’t have excess energy. Is there any way she could move into assisted living & have her meals provided & showers supervised? That would solve a lot of problems & she wouldn’t have to be alone for long periods of time. I’m continuing with my scrunchie project when my hands aren’t bothering me too much. Everything comes back into style eventually. I saw on the news today that there are package deals for a trip to the Super bowl in Arizona starting at >$10,000, OMG!
I take my B12 supplement in the mornings because the. Give you energy, you don’t want totake them at night. I take a product called Mellodyn (buy it online) at night to help with sleep & it generally works unless the moon is too full - you know what i mean.
Mick, maybe you should get some coats for your rabbits to protect them from the cold!! I’ve never been able to get a coat on a dog, they prefer to deal with the weather in their birthday suits, haha.
That ring sounds super special, great find for your friend. Yep the Eagles had a great day Sunday & I’m surprised there were no fireworks locally. My neighbors love to light off fireworks for most any reason.
PQ, that’s great your work day is split like that. Preserving your energy will help prevent a relapse. I agree the nicotine replacement products are expensive but your health is more important. I really want to see you succeed. I have found the Spring craft shows to not really be worth the effort for the makers. People seem to like being out & about on a nice day but they generally are not buying much. I know I have done much better in the Fall so I’m sticking with that this year. Since our ground is not frozen I went out & planted the 16 daffodil bulbs I picked up over the weekend. I noticed many of my tulips have broken ground already which is too soon, oh well. Keep taking good care of yourself.
Hello to all & wishing everyone a nice night!

Re: 29 Jan
A Costco run together in the evening sounds like a great idea, Lav! There’s two of you then to help carry in all the heavy pet food -and the giant jar of coconut oil that your kids get to inherit!
It does seem like the Fall and Winter craft fairs are more successful for you when you talk about them. People like shopping for Fall decor and Christmas presents, I think. Great idea to preserve your Spring time for gardening!
We’re 5 degrees F here now.
I feel a kindred spirit with you, because I don’t resonate with all the hoopla around pro sports either. And I must admit to enjoying living (now that I live alone) without the endless cacophony of sports going on in the background!Last edited by Slo; January 30, 2023, 10:08 PM.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: 29 Jan
What a surprise to hear that you’re back to work, PQ! Well I guess you did have the extra days in the hospital to recover while waiting for the scan. Excellent strategy to work half days; the half when your energy is high! You’ll be feeling out of sorts with the cigarette detox besides, so an afternoon nap or rest may help with navigating that too.
I’m feeling better usually now that I’m taking a B vitamin complex every other day in the morning, alternating with a B 12 tablet.
I’m weathering this side of the lunar month (as we head toward the full moon) better by cutting in half the dosage of mineral supplements that I take for my detox diet, for these two weeks.
And I’m sleeping better by taking potassium supplements to balance out with the magnesium spray that I use daily. The potassium helps me sleep.
Isn’t your elderly friend 97 years old, TG? Or 95? I mean, she’s really up there! Such a comfort for her to have you to visit (and help now) in the evenings.
I love the saying on that ring, Mick! Such a clever saying with the symbols of the heart and the skull…“Til death do us part”!Last edited by Slo; January 30, 2023, 10:35 PM.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Mae all - 9:40 pm and I just walked in the door. Too tired to write much, but all is well...
Lav, leaving the coconut oil in your Will 😂...
PQ, the schedule sounds good, good for you, we’ll be cheering you on for day 1!
SLO, take care; good ideas on the magnesium spray and potassium.
Mick, that ring sounds amazing... and one doesn’t think of “olden times” bring so romantic... lovely. Good luck to the rabbits as they figure out the pecking order!
I had terrible sleep last night... picked up some elderberry and melatonin gummies; we’ll see...
Cheers to all,

Re: 29 Jan
MAE ALL…day 2 of no smoking, patches are helping but the temptation is everywhere. Easier when I was stuck in the hospital, didn’t start thinking about smoking until I was feeling better. Was pretty sore when I left work at noon today. Trying to wean myself off the Tramadol but I don’t think I’m quite there yet.
Lav…an after dinner run to Costco sounds exhausting to me. LOL That would be the place to stock up on the cat/dog food. Coconut oil in your will…that’s why I don’t shop at Costco. Sorry about the Arctic air, it only lasted 2 days here for a change. I can’t believe you were able to plant bulbs! I’ll have to check around the community centre to see if any of the tulips have broken ground. We did have some really warm weather before the freeze.
Slo…I was more than ready to get back to work but you’re right the ½ day strategy was a good idea. Glad you’re feeling better, figuring out which vitamins need to be taken with other vitamins is a maze to me. For now I just stick to the basics.
TG…thanks for the cheer, now on to day 2. Sorry your sleep hasn’t improved, hope the elderberry and melatonin gummies helped.
Mick…it’s been so mild here I was sad to hear that our snowiest months are Feb/Mar so I’m sure there is more on the way. Sounds like you’re making some progress with the bonding, I wonder if Bonnie is wondering where Jeeves is and who the hell is this? I like that, just call me nosmo King. So far so good, just have to keep busy. Very cute about not being able to light the patches.
Shout out to Det, Pauly and Sam. Have a good night all…:smile:PPQP

Re: 29 Jan
Greetings friends,
We had some rain with snow flurries & crunchy things mixed in this afternoon. Such a weird winter here this year!
Slo, glad you’re feeling better re-arranging your supplements. There’s no one vitamin regimen that works for everyone. I change things up from time to time depending on how I’m feeling too.
For years I’ve taken a supplement called True Osteo, advanced bone support instead of taking those awful meds (Fosamax, Actonel, etc). It’s expensive but I tolerate it well, only take 2/day instead of the recommended 4/day because my D3 level goes too high. I have taken some good trips, slips & falls & haven’t broken anything yet haha. TrueOsteo Advanced Bone Support w/ Vitamin K2 | NatureCity(R)
I also take a Bcomplex with C every morning & this seems to work for me. We owe it to ourselves to find what works best for us.
Cyn, of course you’re tired working 2nd shift hours caring for your friend. Take care of your needs first & don’t wear yourself out!
My daughter is back at work this week, last week she was home due to a second go around with Covid. Today she endured an assault by an 11 year old boy at the Autism school where she works. She’s bruised & mad & taking about this being her last year there, don’t blame her. Taking care of another individual is never easy, you just never know what’s going to happen.
Mick, 15 minutes of bonding before the bickering starts sounds pretty good, haha!
I’ll be keeping my money & not buying tickets to the Super bowl, can you just imagine? People must have some serious spare cash, geez!!!
PQ, hang in there baby - the no smoking will become your new habit before you even know it!!
The ground her is not frozen at all so planting bulbs was easy. I just enjoy being cheap & getting pretty flowers too. $2 for 16 bulbs - doesn’t get cheaper than that haha. I really hope the tulips survive winter when it actually gets here.
Hello to Sam, Pauly & Det. I do see Det’s FB postings with his beautiful pictures, very nice!
Have a nice night all.

White rabbits hi yall...how are we doing today? hope all is good .It is 7am and blowing a hooley out there ...the wind is very bitter.Im out at yoga tonight again, but apart from that ...wont be going too far!!!!
hiya Nosmo...good for you ...day 2 ..well done.yes it will be difficult to stop, but you can do it ..Im not sure what Bonnie is thinking ...whether she can recall Jeeves physically or by smell .the main thing I have to remember is this is about a companion for her ..yes I like the 2 of them ,and yes bonding them is a challenge, but the bottom line is her well being and quality of life is the primary aim,and if that eventually culminates in Argyl going back and her being on her own then so be it.I will give it my best shot but who knows. It looks like we are going to get some pretty heavy weather too.You take care and look after yourself .
hiya Lav ,how are you doing?2 bux for the bulbs ? not bad at all.Sorry to hear about your daughter ..I hope she is ok.So you dont want to buy the superbowl either? It sounds like your country suffers the same divisor as we have ..the haves and the have nots .Im sure the snow looks lovely .......over there ..have you put the bulbs directly into their final place or doing them in the tunnel etc first ?
hiya Slo ..you doing ok ? hope all is well with you .
