    Re: 26 Feb

    Good evening all!

We had 51 degrees & some sun today - I’ll take it

Mick, I hope you made your destination safely & you are having fun!

Slo, I meant to mention yesterday I read there’s a solar storm going on & it’s affecting radio/TV communications, etc. It’s probably also responsible for waking us up at unholy hours.
I also eat a lot of high oxalate foods, veggies, nuts & fruits but if we get enough water in (so I was told) we should be OK. I was concerned about kidney stones, ouch. I think if you have gout the oxalates could increase your uric acid. Sounds like you’re going to be busy watching grandkids - good luck

I do ‘see’ Pauly & Det on FB from time to time & always try to say ‘hello’.

PQ, I’ve been going to a chain shop ‘Great Clips’ for quite some time. They seem to be open all the time for haircuts. I do a ‘check-in’ on their app & jump in the car & go haha!
Glad you’re feeling peppier & when the vitamins kick in there will be no stopping you, Lol.
Being a girl scout leader my #1 job was getting 17 girls home alive after a weekend of camping. BUT I also pushed the responsibility of leaving a clean campsite (including the latrines), not wasting water, etc.
The boy scouts should follow our lead!!! I love cabbage & anytime I find a new way to cook it I do

Cyn, hope your day was good & you’re out & about as well.

    Have a nice night all!
    Lav

      MAE ALL...

Mick...glad you were able to drive in dry weather, you can handle the cold. Nice that the rabbits travelled together, I think you've made it with those two. Enjoy London.

Slo...didn't make it to 10, got to 9 and woke at 1am. Was able to get back to sleep so a total of about 7 hours, that's a first. LOL The meatballs turned out good, so much easier than making from scratch. I will make them again. Moving in a circle, now that brings back memories. LOL Had to look up what an oxalate diet was! How did us "early humans" ever survive!

Lav...sounds like you had good weather today. No snow for us and we did warm up to almost 0C/32F, I'll take that. Mine is a chain as well "First Choice". They used to be just down the block but then that one closed and I have a bit of a hike to get to another one. Liked them because they were nice and cheap, mine is a straight layered cut, no product, no styling. Prices have gone up though so I think I'll check the other one out.

TG...you're probably going full steam ahead now.

Boss wants everyone to track their time according to tasks at work for a month. Most of the staff did it for February, I started mine today. First thing I did was add a line item "filling out this tracker". LOL Registration open for Spring Programs today and people were signing up by 1am. I have one program that is very popular with limited space and yup it filled by noon. I'm hoping she can put on a second class come the fall.

Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

On my phone for a quick hello -

Mick, wishing you safe travels! You have a very ambitious plan for those 4 days, good luck! (And of course you miss the wabbits!)

Lav, how are things in your county? I’m still hoping that none of that chemical mess drifts your way. Are you planning your garden yet? I used to dream of things all through February, make plans and then never accomplish them! Good luck.

SLO, I meant to say how very sorry I was to read about your aunt and uncle and the terrible loss of their son... that is truly excruciating... I hope they are healing...

PPQ, how’s it all going? Hump Day is over, now sliding into the end of the week. Hope all is going okay.

Well that’s me then... hello to all dropping by...

Mae all how are we doing?made it to Abbey Wood, took me 6 hours solid to get here and a full tank of fuel. Traffic was a bit mad, plus there were 2 smashes.one of them looked pretty brutal..this site is on the outskirts of London and yet it is a haven for wildlife. You wouldn't believe it. Grey squirrels loads of them, saw 2 foxes,a woodpecker, and I heard all these screaming birds. .there are hundreds of green parakeets flying around in the wild. I will try and get some pictures but they are really high today's plan is to take the tube into London...Elizabeth line to Whitechapel change onto the District line and then on to Tower Hill .then have a bimble along the embankment see big Ben houses of Parliament etc tomorrow hopefully the Tower of London. .it is 8 degrees and the parakeets are squawking like mad out there. Hope everyone is doing ok

              MAE ALL…

TG…on your phone, you brave soul. All is going good, just a little weary this afternoon. Will be looking forward to end of day tomorrow.

Mick…Glad you made it safely, that full tank of fuel will hurt the old pocket book. Good thing you weren’t involved in any smashes on the way. I’m sure the wildlife is glad to be out of London. Great pics, it sure brings back memories for me. It was blowing a hooley here today. Lots of people in the ditches as the wind picked up all our snow from yesterday and blew it around, really slicking up the roads.

A chinook blew in last night and our temps rose to 5C/41F. Lots of melting which will all freeze tonight. We’re supposed to have nice weather for a couple of days then back to the deepfreeze and snow on Sunday.

Waves to everyone else. Have a good night all….:smile:PPQP

                Howdy,

Thank you for sharing with us the London landmarks that you’re experiencing now on your trip, Mick!
I never thought of parakeets as being birds that fly around free outside! A whole flock of them like that sounds too noisy.

Interesting about the atmospheric storms, Lav. My vitamin A toxicity group has been talking about volatile space weather lately too.
You certainly found a creative use for cabbage in that pie you made! I was inspired to buy a jar of sauerkraut.

Yay for 7 hours of sleep, PQ! I got that much too, also divided.
Too bad she can’t offer a second session of that popular class in the Spring, but I guess that’s not how it works.
I caved and had a little color put in my hair this last time; a temporary “rinse” that warms up the gray.
We seem to have had similar twin sisters: mine is a heavy drinker too, over many decades.
I agree that the store meatballs are quite good these days.

Some women in the condo neighborhood got together today for morning coffee to plan activities we can do together, like game nights, going to the movies together, etc. We will be called “The Pointe Sisters”. I was happy to manage to get included in the meeting!

                TG, will you miss gardening?
My aunt & uncle have been healing as well as they can from the loss of their only son, and moving forward with their lives as best they can. They have to: they have to help raise the tiny daughters he left behind, etc. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has been enormously helpful in their healing. My uncle was on a Zoom call for three hours with a support group through them. And he went on a retreat in the wilderness in Colorado through them with other men who had experienced the same loss, which really helped him. Next month they will travel together to gather with other parents who have lost a firefighter son in the line of duty.

                ‘Til tomorrow!

                  Re: 26 Feb

                  Good evening friends,

Nothing special today but did get a lot of running around done before picking up grandson from school. I’m enjoying taking a spin around the big backyard every day to see what else is starting to bloom. It’s early but things are starting

Cyn, I’m on the easternmost & southernmost corner of PA so no toxic fumes from Ohio have made it here. I’m grateful for that but feel sorry for all those folks west of Pittsburgh.
I let yB worry about veggie gardening these days & I focus on flower beds. I’m ready to dig in & yes I have some plans. Hope your day was good!

PQ, sounds like things are hopping at work for you. I imagine people are anxious to get plans going for spring after your long winters.
I wish we could manage to get more sleep but it just seems darn near impossible as we get older. I have eliminated caffeine from my life but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I give up, haha!!!

Mick, thank you for the pics, very nice!
I wouldn’t expect to see parakeets living wild over there, that’s a surprise! Keep enjoying yourselves

Slo, I still had half of that cabbage pie in the fridge so I put it in the oven to warm up while I air fried chicken cutlets tonight, yum.
That’s nice the neighbors reached out to include you in their group. You can have a lot of fun with a group like that. It’s good to hear your uncle is receiving support from the firefighters foundation. They do good work. I’m thinking back to working 2nd or 3rd shift during the full moon & just going nuts trying to keep patients safe & in their beds. I didn’t even realize some of that could have been caused by the solar storms we’re experiencing now, Lol. It’s all becoming quite clear now!!

Big rain/wind coming tomorrow, oh well. Have a nice night all!

                    Mae all,

Thanks for all the news... such a busy crew on here! I was with my elder tonight... she is having memory problems, but can hold a conversation if I choose a topic that is new to discuss. She's really a smart, wonderful person... she seems a bit brighter with the coming of longer days, so that's a good sign.

Lav, you are always finding great recipes, thanks! It's good to hear that YB has the vegies in hand... I know you end up eating lots of that, so nice to grow your own. Enjoy the blooms when they occur! You sound like you were a great Scout Mistress, Lav. What great lessons learned early.

SLO - I am trying to envision the little one crawling backwards... such an interesting thing! Glad that you have made contact with some people around you, and they are doing interesting things... sounds good.

PPQ - Sorry about the mess that was left, but maybe that will convince them to be more careful next time... sounds like you are getting stronger each day... here's hoping you have a good sleep tonight.

Mick - so glad you were able to just drive by those accidents! I guess someone's parakeets got loose and have made a home for themselves in the wild. I hope the first day of touring London was a great experience, can't wait to hear about it.

                    May we be well,
                    TG

                          Re: 26 Feb

                          Greetings friends,

The rain started this afternoon. I’m even hearing some rumblings of thunder. Heavier rain & high winds to arrive around 8 pm. This is part of the big storm moving across the country that caused tornados in the south. Hope we don’t get those.

Cyn, I was a Girl Scout as a kid & loved it but never imagined getting into leadership. Back after my Mom passed in 1986 the leader of my daughter’s troop begged me to help her, it was way too much work for one person. I reluctantly said OK, haha! We had 17 girls & they stayed together as a troop until they were high school juniors. After that they got busy with other activities but it was all fun.
We do consume every thing we grow & buy the rest from the local farms. It has become very normal over the past 20 years. The garlic & strawberry beds have been under a heavy straw covering all winter, just waiting for the right time to uncover them.
I hope your elder holds out for the longer daylight hours. Night time confusion is not unusual for them. I worked a lot of 2nd & 3rd shifts with them so this I know

Mick, thanks for the great pics! Looks like you’re getting around pretty well & having fun I hope.
I’ve been chicken sitting for my neighbor the last two days. Maybe I should hang a sign out for Chicken Motel, haha!!

PQ, hope your day was good. I’ve seen lots of pics on FB of snow all over Canada, yikes! Still have none here, so strange.

Slo, hope you had a good day as well!

                          Have a nice night all!

MAE ALL…:yay: It's the weekend :yay: Boss was a little tired today, his comment was "there shouldn't be a full work week after a short work week" so I told him the solution to that is to move to a 4 day work week permanently. Guess he's been thinking of the event happening on Saturday, that wasn't even on my radar! What a difference having a boss who's actually present.

Slo…volatile space weather!! Who knew! I don’t remember the last time I actually slept through the night. I do believe this is a part of aging. At least I’m not alone in my sleep patterns. LOL I’ve been coloring my own hair for years. I’ve always been a blonde and as I got older it started going dark almost black. Yikes! Congrats on forming “The Pointe Sisters” group. That will keep you active, healthy and young.

Lav…I hope you don’t get walloped especially with what looks like a bad storm coming your way. I’d hate to see the starting blooms freeze. Hopefully you won’t see any tornados. I hear it’s a huge mass moving east. I’ve cut way back on my coffee intake and normally never drank it later in the day. My problem was drinking coke, but I’ve cut that out now. I think I just need to get more active during the day. Yup, we’ve still got a pile of snow hanging around and more to come starting Sunday. At least this way people won’t be bugging me to register for the upcoming community garden growing season.

TG…good to hear your elder is feeling a bit brighter with the longer days. I know my mood has changed now that I’m not driving to and from work in the dark. Really makes a big difference. As far as the Scout group goes, I wonder if there will be a next time, especially if they have to pay for the room rental. I did get a better sleep last night, forcing myself to stay up a little later at night seems to help. I hope you’re looking after yourself and not getting worn out.

Mick…just love the pics around London, they sure bring back lots of memories for me. I actually remember being at some of those places. Those were good days. Never did travel on the double decker bus. If I ever get back that’ll be on my bucket list. Looks like you’ve also got some good weather. Your mini vaca will be over soon. We'll all be waiting to hear how Argyle made out. Bet he and Bonnie will have an even stronger bond.

Waves to Det, Pauly and Sam. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

                              Mae all -

Mick, those pics are wonderful! My husband and I spent a few days in London in the fall of 2019... I have some similar pics! That brought back some memories. I see you found the Ravens... such majestic birds, and it looks like you had a pic taken pretty close to where they beheaded Anne Bolyn, right? It is just staggering to think of all the centuries and lives there. Great pics of the bridge and the bus! Enjoy your remaining time there!

Lav, I love to hear that you are eating so "close to the earth"... that is just amazing, how I wish I could do the same. Instead, I pay $$$$ for organic food - but it's just me that I'm feeding, and I like to support those farmers who are doing the "right" thing. Your Girl Scout troop was big! And it sounds like they learned so much from you, congrats

PPQ, it sounds like you are back "in the swing" of things, I am glad that it is the weekend and that you can rest. How nice that your boss "sees" you and the value you bring, nothing better... wishing you a good weekend.

SLO - hoping that you have had a good day, and that you will enjoy whatever the weekend brings.

Happy Friday evening to all - miss you, Pauly, Det, and Sam...

                                Good evening,

I spent today helping my mother pack some boxes in preparation for moving out of her house that she shared with her partner husband type guy, who died last Fall. My little sister found her a great new senior living apartment! She will be moving in there in May.
So another set of china that nobody wants nowadays, as well as lots of other such dishes, is going off to the thrift store!

I love the Tudor buildings, Mick, and the raven and the beefeater’s.
I was reading about the vegetable shortage in England now, attributed to three different causes, including Brexit…also climate change, the war in Ukraine; and the intersection of those three factors. You’re supposed to grow your own turnips in the meantime!

Oh, that’s good that your delightful, smart elder can still hold conversations with you, TG.

Chicken-sitting, Lav! Hope your girls are welcoming the newcomer. I’m cat-sitting for my former next door neighbor.
It’s good that you had a co-leader for your Girl Scout troop, Lav. I can’t believe they lasted as a troop all the way until juniors in high school! That’s a testament to your great leadership.

PQ, are you saying that the boss has a six-day workweek this week, because of the Saturday event? This is a much better boss than the one you put up with before. I’ll bet you’re ready for the weekend, after working full time this whole week.

Bedtime, and I hope for a good sleep tonight!
