    Re: 14th May

    Good morning!

Mick, all three of those visual jokes are hysterical! That’s my kind of humor!
The way your health care system plays out at the patient level sounds just exactly like ours, in that the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, etc.
    Madness!

PQ, that just sounds awful with the smoke settled over the city, and not good for your lungs either. Or anyone else’s!
That 7.5 hours of sleep must have been delicious. I feel so much better throughout the day if I can get at least close to 7 hours.

TG, hallelujah! The course is over! That was intense. Well, you almost missed a section, but, since you double-checked before you hit send; you didn’t!
Oh, I hope the lingering fatigue & brain fog from Covid will gradually right itself. But, thankful you have a resource that may help if you need to intervene some.

Pie, how are you all adjusting to the household minus the big dog? Are you getting Texas heat yet, or still nice Spring weather?

I spoke to daughter some about my sister & my concerns RE Mabel being overwhelmed by Beckett. I’ll be heading up there tomorrow, and need to make sure to put some special focus on her.

      Re: 14th May

Monday was my day with 10-month-old Huxley. He was so sick! I think he caught a bad cold at day care that layered on top of the fever he had from the viral illness. I took him in to the pediatrician, but no ear infections thankfully.

Yesterday I helped my borderline hoarder of a mother (sorry, but it’s beyond “pack rat”) get rid of more stuff out of her house that she’s moving from. Then we went out for lunch (my sister and Young Daughter also) for Mother’s 81st birthday today. My sister had plans to take our mother to the movies today, but, our mother had a better offer come up apparently, so she made her other plans without even bothering to cancel her plans with my sister! Whatever…we’re used to it. She’s our fair weather mother: we’re useful to her if nobody else is around, but get dropped instantly if something/someone better comes along.

Yesterday I went to my first board meeting for the condo association that I am in now. It seemed to be well-run!

I’m off now to get some fasting bloodwork done.

          Re: 14th May

Heading out for a dog walk but want to check in. Weather has so far been mild; rainy but no intense heat yet. Have had some good days which feels like positive momentum. Catching up on overdue stuff, phone calls, dental cleaning, filing etc. Made a spectacular dinner last night including oven roasted asparagus. So yummy! Little things that I’m enjoying, which is actually a very big thing.

          Greetings to all!

            Re: 14th May

            Evening greetings,

Sunny & a bit cooler here today. A cold front from Canada is heading this way (Thanks PQ, haha). I don’t think we’ll get any frost tonight being as far south as we are. I am praying that’s so anyway.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some of the smoke from those fires up there as well since it’s kinda windy.

            PQ, congrats on the sleep!!!
I love a girl that can just say NO, Lol

Slo, sorry Huxley is sick again, poor kids get exposed to so much in daycare.
Your Mom sounds like maybe she has a bit of a personality issue? At her age she should be extremely grateful for all the help she’s receiving from you & your sister. Family stuff is never easy.
You can be a god friend for Mable while Beckett learns his manners

Mick, you would love the Amish markets & auction. It feels good supporting local families & getting nice flowers & vegetables from them. Better than buying at Home Depot or Lowes.
Julie’s Dad is lucky to have you two looking after his needs. Healthcare is screwed up everywhere I’m afraid.

Pie, feels good to be getting back into a healthy lifestyle, good for you!
We have the ability not only to regain our lives when we quit but also to become better than ever. That’s the nice part about re-inventing yourself, yay.

            Wishing everyone a nice night!

              Re: 14th May

MAE ALL...this morning son came downstairs to say he didn't have internet, however I did. So he tried to figure things out and when I got home tonight I didn't have internet. My first thought, if he can't have it neither could I. LOL It's an issue with our router and he just informed me it's up again so am posting before it goes down. Although the air quality index is still at it's highest there was less smoke in the city, the street lights went out.

TG...great catch on the missing section. It must feel good to have the course completed. The smoke is supposed to continue to get better tomorrow, for now I'm just staying indoors.

Slo...the extra long sleep really felt good. Wish it would happen more often. I hope your daughter listened to your concerns about Beckett, maybe she'll be more aware of things going on. At least you'll be able to check things out tomorrow with your visit. Sorry Huxley is so sick but glad to hear there was no ear infection. You are doing so much for your mom, it just hurt a little to hear how she treats you. I agree with Lav about family stuff is not easy, I know from experience.

Mick...too much drama Noted! Hopefully things will settle down a bit for you guys. I'm just ignoring all the hullabaloo about the forum, the boss can deal with it. Smoke had lessened a bit today, there would be wafts of it on and off during the day.

Aargh...son just rebooted the router again. Quickly copied the post but will finish this quickly.

Pi...one of the things I was most grateful for when I quit drinking was getting my appetite back. Oven roasted asparagus sounds great, care to share how you did it? I have not succeeded in roasting any vegetables yet. I really like the positive momentum, keep it up.

Lav...I wouldn't be surprised if you saw some of this smoke either. Any progress on the Stella's climbing? Apparently there has been frost warnings in eastern Canada but I think you're right, may not affect you.

Ok, signing off before internet crashes again. Have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

PQ, here’s the recipe. Recommend skipping or reducing the salt.

                Oven-Roasted Asparagus
Roasted asparagus seasoned with garlic, lemon, and Parmesan cheese. This recipe is super quick to prep and roasting removes any bitterness. Try it next to lamb or grilled fish.

                      Re: 14th May

                      Good evening friends,

There was no frost this morning so all the baby plants were happy
Definitely cooler though, only went up to 67 degrees, nice.
We had several guys from the carpet company here today stretching the wall to wall carpet in two of the bedrooms to get rid of the lumps & bumps. It was never installed correctly (nearly 5 years ago). All fixed now but have to wait for the cleaning company before putting the rooms back together. Kinda sick of living out of boxes again so soon after the kitchen job but at least it will get done.

PQ, I get panicky when the internet is not working correctly haha! I guess we’re all so spoiled & attached to it after all these years. Hope your is oK now. Our cable company has been working all around our area, guess they are improving things.
No smoke from the fire here, it was a clear & sunny day. I still haven’t caught a glimpse of any chickens on their jungle gym yet. I’m sure they will get to it when they are ready, Lol

Mick, wow you packed a whole lot into one day! You’re going to be difficult to manage in the nursing hone haha!
Animals always seem to like to take my chair when they can. Bonnie is no different I guess

Hello to Cyn, Slo, Pie & anyone else checking on tonight.
I hope everyone has a good night!

                        Re: 14th May

MAE ALL...it was actually sunny out there today and no smell of smoke. Nice quiet day at work got a head start on new long term rental contracts with no interruptions. Starting to feel like I'm finally getting organized.

Pi...thanks for the recipe. Simple enough that I think even I can do it. LOL Asparagus is now on my grocery list. Any word on the new adoptee?

Mick...wow, you had quite the day, obviously feeling like your old self again. We think it's the router, the boys have got quite the elaborate network setup here. Something to do with something ending up in a loop. Quick fix is to reboot the router but I think it needs to upgraded. At least we can make do till Cody gets back from up north. "What the hell is your computer doing on my computer" :rotlf:

Lav...no frost :yay: and I'm sure enjoyed the cooler weather. I can't believe you waited 5 years to get the carpet fixed. How many time did you trip over it? LOL Maybe now you can unpack those boxes for good. I know the feeling when the internet isn't working properly, my first thoughts are now what am I going to do?...even as I look around at all the things that need to be done. LOL

Waves to the rest of the gang...have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

                          Re: 14th May

                          Mae all,

PPQ - thanks but no thanks for the smoke! Apparently the wind is in exactly the position to cover the midwestern US... I had no idea, so I headed out and up the hill to look in on my elder... her granddaughter was there, so I headed back home - those 6 minutes caused my clothes to reek of smoke! (I looked on the report, and the air quality is "unhealthy") I have had to put mu clothes in a plastic bag. I don't remember that situation even when I was in the Nevada fires a couple of years ago... I can't imagine what it's like if you have to live in it! I hope your router issues get worked out!

SLO - here's hoping your time with the grandkids is working out. Mabel is lucky to have you in her corner! So sorry that your mother is not an appreciative person... that's hard. Good for you for rolling with the punches.

Lav, glad that you will finally live without boxes... that's always a perk. Soak up that nice fresh cool air... who knows when it will change!

Mick, I am exhausted by just reading your accomplishments. Bonnie too, I guess, she just had to fall asleep where she landed... I look forward to the pics... I've finally learned that I have to read everything first (before logging in), then log before it rejects my post. Then I can go back and see the pics! Glad Julie's dad is headed home... good for you for figuring it all out.

Pi - love to hear you feeling filled up by the simple enjoyments of life - I feel that way too. Thanks so much for the asparagus recipe - sounds easy and great - I'll check it out!

Well, I finished one course and yesterday started the 2nd one - on being an Animal Companion End-of-Life doula... it was the course I wanted to take first! But now I'll have that experience... if I can help even one pet and it's family, I will feel that I have lived a good life. So, off to study some more (though this is only 2 weeks, hallelujah...)

Sending healing, no smoke, and happy experiences to all ---

                              Good morning!

I’m worn out just reading about all you did the other morning, Mick! Good for you for being so active & energetic! I don’t even wash my own car! -just go through the car wash here & there, and otherwise let the rain wash it.

PQ, you don’t have smoke in the air there anymore because it wafted over to TG’s now! Yuck.

I was at D1’s with the three little kids yesterday, and daughter was doing a much better job of setting limits with Beckett, and keeping him from hurting and otherwise overwhelming Mabel. I tried to make sure I gave Mabel attention too, and not just the squeaky wheel.
Beckett had an imperfect birth, as well as imperfect immediate antenatal & postnatal experiences; so he may be struggling with perhaps attentional difficulties like ADHD or something similar, from the oxygen deprivation & growth retardation that he experienced then…not just “naughty” for no reason.

TG, speaking of pet end-of-life doula: my baby sister & her family just lost their beloved dog to death yesterday, AND one their two beloved cats two days before that! Can you imagine, having longtime family pets dying on top of each other like that?! She is just heartsick.
Hopefully this course will go better for you, since you’re more familiar with the format now, and it’s shorter.

Hopefully the carpet cleaning company will get in there soon, Lav; so you can get back to normal.
Yes, my mother definitely has a full-blown personality disorder. At least I & my twin sister understand what is wrong with her, and what happened to so many of our family members thanks to her narcissistic abuse. But, it is hidden from everyone else, since they are so good putting a good face to the world, while abusing family members in private behind closed doors.

I have been roasting asparagus for quite awhile now, and it is so amazingly good! It converted ex-HB, a vegetable-hater, into eating it!

Young Daughter is here staying with me today! Wishing everyone a great Friday.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.
