Re: 4th June
Hi, All
I can't reply to everyone today but I do appreciate the newsy posts and jokes.
Pie, I just wanted to say that I really admire you for coming back after your year away. I'm not sure I would have the courage to do that. Good job making it through these tough days without drinking. xx

Re: 4th June
Greetings friends,
The air quality was so bad today they closed the airpot in Philly this morning. Still very smoky out there, unhealthy for sure! Supposedly it’s getting better, we will see. Really hoping for some rain soon.
PQ, glad you got through your course & came out happy
How about suggesting to the boss that you get a little bonus every time you are called to fix someone else’s problem? I think that seems very fair. We sure need a break from all this wildfire smoke coning at us. Hope your weather doesn’t get too hot.
Cyn, I’m jealous of your thunderstorm, we could really use one.
The pictures of NYC yesterday were horrendous, such thick smoke there. I hope your week is going well.
Slo, sorry you’re not getting a response from the pain clinic. I imagine they could be popular & very busy but still…
I’ve gotten in the habit of using the pain gel on my aching feet first thing in the morning when getting dressed, helps a lot. I’m hearing baseball games are still being postponed due to crappy air quality.
Mick, we’ve moved from purple to red on the air quality scale, heading to orange tonight so things are improving. Still smells like a giant campfire outside.
I’m sure the world headquarters for meaninglessness is located somewhere between the US & UK haha!! I’m sure they do this to try to get the attention of those who pay no attention to ‘warnings’. It looks lovely outside at your place today! Glad to hear ‘Dad’is happy in his new place.
Wags, I hope your day was A-OK. You’re a hard working woman without a doubt
Pie, sure hope you’re doing OK, still thinking about you!
Hello to anyone else popping in tonight. Have a nice night all!

MAE ALL...
Late and short check in from me too. I can't believe how much my butt cheeks hurt! All that CPR testing getting up and down off the floor I suspect. Boy do I ever need to get active!!!
Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

Re: 4th June
PQ - I remember those CPR courses and all the up and down for the simulations and tests!
Pie - I agree with NoSugar in admiration of you going through this difficult time without turning to al. Losing a furry family member or best friend is HARD. Good thing you know that drinking won't actually help.
Lav and others in the smokey air - you have my sincerest sympathies. We get horrible wildfires here in the western U.S. and have had a couple of times recently when my city had the same hazardous super orange-brown air you're having now. We couldn't go outside without masks, and even that was strongly discouraged. I know how hard it is to be in your shoes. The bigger picture issues with climate change and forest mis-management are unfortunately going to make this type of fire and air quality emergency more frequent
Mick - that's so awesome that your FIL had such a good day. I bet Julie was really relieved with what she discovered when she arrived at the care home. Hopefully he'll just continue along in that same way and will end up loving it and making good friends.
Had an easier day today and was able to recuperate a bit and relax. I have one more hard work day tomorrow and then starting Saturday my "lighter summer work schedule" will officially begin.
Hope you all have good Fridays and Fri-nights!

A toff staying at the Ritz hotel in London gets a card offering female companionship and sexual favours pushed under his hotel door.
Having been alone for a number of months he decided to ring the number on the card.
A lady with a very soft voice asks if she can be of any help. The toff then says to her that he’s staying in the Ritz and that he would like her to visit his room stating he would pay her well if she gave him the very best time.
She replied saying he sounded very nice and thanking him for the offer but advised him that he needed to dial 9 for an outside line when wanting to make a phone call.
A lass from Newcastle went down to the Benefits Office looking to increase her benefits.
The office worker asked her, "How many children do you have?"
"Ten," she replied.
"What are their names?" he asked.
"David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David, David and David," she answered.
"They're all named David?" he asked "What if you want them to come in from playing outside?"
"Oh, that's easy," she said. "I just call 'David,' and they all come running in."
"And, if you want them to come to the table for dinner?"
"I just say, 'David, come eat your dinner'," she answered.
"But what if you just want ONE of them to do something?" he asked.
"Oh, that's easy," she said. "I just use their surname!”

Re: 4th June
Hi, again. Another quick one from me. Family is arriving today and we're heading south tomorrow in our van. I'm not sure how 2 days of driving will be for small boys but surely it will be worth it. I may be unable to post (or unwilling due to only having a phone!) but will be reading. We'll be back in a couple weeks. Take care, NS

Re: 4th June
Hey friends,
Glad to report the air quality is at 36 today - down from the 3&400?s the past few days. That was really getting tiresome.
Stopped in the market today to restock supplies. The Amish store did manage to get some amaranth whole grains in for me. I have been wanting to try it in grain bowls with lots of veggies
PQ, I understand your pain, haha! I hurt all over after doing a little gardening having to get up & down. I?m afraid I?m going to stiffen up like the tin man some day, Lol
Wags, it was weird having the wildfire smoke blowing in from Canada. We?ve had smoke from the west blow in a few times a few times over the years but this was much worse. My brother lives in CA, used to live in Idaho & has had a lot of that wildfire smoke. Glad you made it through your busy spring schedule & can kick back a little on the summer schedule.
Mick, I?ll gladly take your storms off your hands, we need rain in the worst way.
Give Julie?s Dad a week or so, he?ll most likely settle down. We had to put our dads in homes & they both relaxed after a very short time.
That?s a great list of useless job titles there haha! My mom used to call herself ?chief cook & bottle washer?. Peoples titles never really impressed me anyway
I suppose you heard the Trump news today. This is going to be interesting!!!
IMG_1800.jpg
NS, I don?t envy your long road trip with little ones - good luck!
Hello to Cyn, Slo, Pie & everyone!
Have a nice night all!

Re: 4th June
MAE ALL...well, if I thought yesterday was hectic it was nothing compared to today!! OMG the accountant has lost her mind. I'm putting in for overtime as I didn't get any of my work done so will do it tomorrow and charge for it. Up and out early tomorrow as I didn't get everything done for the community wide garage sale tomorrow. On top of that it was as DF day and couldn't even enjoy it. (For the newbies DF stands for Doug Free, that's my boss.)
Wags...glad you at least had an easier day yesterday and hope today wasn't too hectic for you. Summer will slow down for me too once I get the Fall programs online. Registration will open Aug 1st so no time to dilly dally.
Mick...it was sunny and blowy here as well today. We're still under a heat warning, I don't like these 30C days. That's very positive that Julie's Dad is up and dressed first thing. He'll likely go through some mood swings for awhile. Salad with dressing on the side before the run...ya right! I went to bed right after I posted.
NS...safe travels tomorrow and we won't worry if we don't hear from you for a while. Don't even attempt the phone, who needs the frustration!
Lav...what a difference a day makes, 36 down from 400! That must have been a relief. Looking forward to seeing your recipe for the amaranth whole grains and veggies. I need detailed directions. LOL I felt 100 years old yesterday, just a little sore today but could move much better.
Shout out to everyone else, hope your day was good. Have a peaceful evening all...:smile:PPQP

Re: 4th June
MAE all. It’s Fri-night here for me! I’m spending it watering the lawn.
Mick, those re-worked job titles are priceless! So is the picture joke of three whales from Scotland!
Your yard is beautiful, with the view of horses out to pasture too.
My knee doesn’t mind driving too much, especially with cruise control. I did go back to wearing my supportive knee sleeve today.
Good luck with your travels, NoSugar! The kids will probably travel fine, since they can watch some shows on tablets nowadays to help pass the time.
Wags, your reward for crowding your schedule this Winter and Spring is soon at hand! And with your dad safely tucked into his new assisted living place.
Glad your butt cheeks are feeling better, PQ! I guess they don’t get a lot of exercise when you’re working at your computer.
Well, you called it: you thought you’d be working this weekend! It’s a real crunch time. At least it will pay overtime.
Lav, I did hear the good news about Trump today.
Thankfully that thick, acrid smoke is breaking up & moving along now! I didn’t even realize that smoke was the cause of the weird orange sun ball that I saw while driving home from vacation.
I’ve taken to using both Voltaren gel and CBD cream on my knee.
TGIF to everyone else!Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Mae all -
Happy Friday evening to all -
Pi - sending solace vibes to you, and hugs -
Lav, it will be great to hear how your Amaranth experiment goes. That's one of the most ancient grains, isn't it? Here's hoping that you are continuing to see progress on the smoke front.
PQ - congrats on everything - of course you are exhausted! Wow, it sounds like you've been "pedal to the medal" - I hope you can catch some rest in between things at the Craft Show - sending you good energy.
Mick - good news about Julie's dad doing okay in the new situation... I'm sure things will go up and down by a bit. It was great to hear that Julie had a good sleep - hopefully now she will be able to worry less... and sorry about the 5:00 wakeup for you! I woke up and thought I had overslept for a 9 AM appointment; ran around the house getting stuff together and saying some not-very-nice things to myself about myself... then looked at the clock and it was in actuality 3:30 AM... sheesh. (Oh, and about that picture... I'll be right over! And horses that visit too!)
NS - wishing you safe travels, enjoy!
Wags - sounds like you need a very deserved rest... hope you can get some 'me' time...
We are having smoke on and off.... I had to get up in the night to close a window that I had left open for the cooler air... sometime in the night the smoke arrived, so the window got closed quickly.
Sam, Det, Pauly, and anyone else dropping by - hello!
Wishing all well -
TG

Re: 4th June
MAE everyone,
Seems like folks are doing well for the most part - a great way to end the first full week of June! Today was my last hard day of work for awhile and I'm pretty tuckered but happy. I have most of the weekend off and plan to spend it relaxing, hopefully a bike ride, maybe setting up part of my new office space, and working in our veggie garden. Tomorrow I'll go see my dad for a bit too.
Safe travels NS and hopefully safe air coming to Lav and others under the smokey skies.
Catch you all tomorrow!

Re: 4th June
Here’s my haul from nearby community garden.IMG_9232.jpg. The herbs, chives, basil, thyme got turned into pesto. Used some tomatoes in a lentil salad, green tomatoes will get sliced, breaded, and fried, roasted the peppers and eggplant (not pictured), cabbage and carrots are destined for a slaw. A week?s worth of great food and fun in the kitchen.
Mick, saw many marigolds among the veggie plants, and knew why they were planted!
Lav, so glad to hear smoke is clearing. Heard lots of news coverage including flight delays from NY to DC!
PQ, best wishes for a successful garage sale!
NS, it was humbling to return to MWO in such a sorry state, but don?t think I?d have gotten a foothold back to AFness, without my friends here.
Shoutouts to Slo, TG, Steady, Wags, and everyone stopping by.Last edited by Pie; June 10, 2023, 06:10 AM.

Re: 4th June
Hello everyone and how are we today then? Hope everyone is doing okay. And absolutely gorgeous day here today 27 degrees northunderstorms yet despite the fact it was supposed to be cloudy and stormy at the moment it is blue skies 27 degrees and not a drop of rain. Spent more stop this morning polishing out some scoff marks on my car that some kind person had obviously done in a car park full stop fortunately they had not dented the bodywork and the scratches were only surface so I've managed to get 99% of them out. All the horses escaped from the field behind our house yesterday. A crazy story but one field had got one horse in it the other had got 11 in it. The one on its own managed to break out of the field, and go down a foot path past the metal gate into the other field pushed it open and the whole lot escaped, straight down the road past our house it was like the okay corral! I saw them, ran out randown the road comma and there must have thought who is this not guess turned around and ran back up the road! By this time Julia had phoned the riding school, and they then came up. It looked good, but could have been a heck of a lot worse if they had gone all the way down to the main road.
Hiya lav how are you doing today? Hope all is well over there glad the air quality has improved for you. Yes, it will take time for Julie's dad to adjust, at least we know he is looked after properly. Looks like I might be begging thunderstorms from you!
Hiya ns enjoy your holidays wherever you go. What kind of van have you got?
Hiya pie how are you today then? Hope all as well full stop that was quite some whole you got yesterday! Well done. Yes the managed are definitely sacrificial plants. Have a great weekend
Hiya slo how are you today then? Hope the weekend is being kind to you. Stay positive, go out and enjoy yourself but to be careful with that sore knee! No jumping around or bopping!
Hiya wags. How are you doing? Sounds like you have got the weekend routine mapped out for yourself hope you enjoy it better still why not set your office up in the veggie garden. Hope things are alright with your dad
Hiya ppqp, how are you doing today?has the smoke all gone? Any plans for the weekend? Skydiving triathlon or the such like? Take care have a great weekend no matter what you are doing
Hiya tg how are you doing today? Hope all as well are you on your travels or planning the next one? I was up early again this morning, but actually I don't mind it at all. I love seeing the day coming in before everyone ruins it. No noise save the birds that are no planes coming over at that time and morning and then the human cacophony starts! Take care have a great weekend
Apologies to anyone I have missed, but I have done this on my phone and the post runs over two pages, so if I turn back then I lose my post take care have a good weekend
