Re: 25 June
Good Sunday morning!
We got some rain here now, and windier and cooler temps. I hope you get rain too, TG. We don’t need food shortages.
That’s too bad that you couldn’t go canoeing on your vacation, Mick.
Sounds like you are going to have to get tough with the bees.
Wags, the Gokhale method is about primal posture and movements: the way people used to move and hold themselves in the past and in traditional societies, that we have lost; thus our propensity for disc degeneration, back pain etc. Fascinating!
I enjoyed going to the rummage sales in my neighborhood on Thursday, and some on Friday: getting to know some more of my condo neighbors a bit. I got some nice toys & books for the grandkids! And a couple of decorative items for my place.
Hope you’re having a good weekend off, PQ.
Sam, as an AF person at a gathering, it is so noticeable how the volume goes up in a drinking crowd the more they consume. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I mean, it’s fun to cut loose and feel uninhibited, but, it shows how artificial and drug-induced the experience is.
Well, that’s nice that the people remembered to feed the band too! I suppose it was buffet style.
Do you have any leads for homes for the kitties, Lav? Hmm, outdoor cat may have to be spayed…
Pie, the temps in southern Texas are ridiculous! I hope it’s not so bad where you are. Did you lose power from the storms?
I’m just going to have a quiet day; do some paperwork, get a couple things done that I’ve been putting off. And watch “CBS Sunday Morning “ right now.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: 25 June
Hello friends.
Thanks for starting the new thread Slo! Glad to hear you?re out & about in the new neighborhood & meetings folks too. I visited a consignment shop near here when the kids were little & got some great toys & books there. Now I?ve passed all that stuff on to young neighbors with littles.
Weather wise it?s just weird, sunny, raining, cloudy & raining, haha. I guess we?re running the whole gambit today.
I just took this pic from the chicken house, huge rainbow!!!
IMG_6111.jpg
Mick, glad you?re home safe but sorry about the bee stings, ouch!!
Maybe they will just go away if you leave them alone?? Not sure how to bribe them any way.
PQ, I hope you?re enjoying your BBQ, sounds nice.
Cyn, hope you are well. Looks like we have 3 more days of rain to come, hope you get some too.
Waves & hellos to the rest of the gang. I?m getting back to work for a while since it?s too damp to stay outside.
Have a nice night all!

Re: 25 June
Slo - thanks for starting our new thread! That Gokhale method sounds like exactly what I need, as disc degeneration is a big part of my pain issue (plus arthritis throughout my lumbar and cervical spine and SI joints). I will DEFINITELY check it out. Thanks! Hope you had a wonderful quiet day.
PQ - an unexpected BBQ invite sounds fun - hope you had a great time and that your whole weekend helped you rest up for another work week.
Mick - safe travels home from your week on the road
Lav - thanks for posting over in the nest. I'll pop in over there too and try to encourage more migration to this active thread. Beautiful rainbow!
Good day here. Taught and early class and then went to visit my dad for a bit. He said, "this might have been a dream, but I have this 'sense' that my dad is coming to visit me here, and I have mixed feelings about that." He thought it was funny that his dad might visit him in a 'care home for old people' but didn't seem to recognize that his dad died maybe 35 years ago. My wife and I discussed it on the way home. We decided not to correct him and say that visit would be impossible - maybe there are ways people who have passed *can* come visit us and who are we to say that doesn't happen? Aside from that, he seemed fine, content. And that makes me happy every single time.
My wife and I are about 90% sure we're gonna rent a little cabin right on the edge of a mountain river for 2-3 nights in July. We'll decide tomorrow - just have to check budget, scheduled appointments etc. I'm excited! Because of my dad, we haven't gone away anywhere since 2018 except for my brief trip to California for my aunt's memorial right before the covid lock-down.
Hellos and waves TG, NS, and everyone else checking in. Hope you all have fab starts to your new weeks!

Re: 25 June
Slo, thanks for this week?s kick off. Temps here in Houston are as advertised. My sister in law lost electricity for about 18 hours during the surprise storms; power at my place stayed on. I own a generator and portable AC unit for emergency outages. Fingers crossed they won?t be needed, but I could keep one room reasonably cool if push comes to shove.
Mick, what?s this about your Close Encounter of the Bee Kind? Will need to read back. I?m scheduled for 3 hours in a dental chair today, complete with IV sedation. Please wish me luck, strength, and amnesia!
Hello to Lav, PQ, Wags, and the rest!

Re: 25 June
morning all,
expecting hot with some severe storms today, so say the weather folks. Did our 5 hour stint yesterday. Got home and my daughter and I ran the cattle through the chute for their shots, etc.
PQ, how's the smoke your way? Up till last week I was fearful we might ignite at some point, it was so dry, but the past week we saw rain every day and final tally was about 6" of rain. I read 17 million acres in Canada has burned??!! Mick, I also saw how your neck of the woods may be having the smoke from this soon.
Lav, lovely yard in your rainbow picture.
Wag, my mother used to fuss about my dad not showing up for dinner, he had passed several years back at that time. I told her the first time that he had passed, she gave me the "bullshit" look so I never did it again, I would tell her afterwards that was off playing poker, or some such. That seem to resonate with her.
Slo, the fed us well! I kinda see watching people drink as a spectator. not playing, but watching... I find it helps re-affirm my choice!
Pi, take care in that heat, hope some relief is on your way soon!
1 rat last night. I was hoping maybe I had finished with this, NOT! oh well.

Re: 25 June
Good MAE, all
I'm not advocating moving this thread because I can find it eventually but there is something weird about it. It does not show up under the list in "My Unread Posts" nor does it show up if you look at recent posts of a particular person. I was having trouble this morning so I looked at Lav's recent posts, thinking I could link to this thread and none of her posts in any of these weekly threads appear. So then I checked for a couple others of you and for me --- none are there. So, this is a very PRIVATE thread!! The downside is that it is tricky to find unless you know exactly what to do. I can see why Ava is having trouble.
Post-vacation life is pretty much back to normal here. I'm working on some projects I told you about, hanging out with local grandsons, and generally enjoying life. I was in a conversation in which people were telling their favorite places. Most listed vacation destinations like Hawaii or Paris. My response was 'home' and I'm grateful for that because it certainly is where I usually am. I also listened to a guy talking about happiness. He said it wasn't 'having what you want' but 'wanting and appreciating what you have'. As long as a person's basic needs are met, I think he's probably right.
I also love working with color, Lav. It is great that you get to be creative with your embroidery rather than just a worker bee. Where are people seeing photos of your recent designs? I seem to have missed them.
Hope everyone is doing well! NS

Re: 25 June
MAE ALL....was one of those no sleep nights last night. Geeze, you'd think after getting out to a BBQ in the fresh air would have helped. And of course it was a crazy day, accountant back and asking even dumber questions than usual. LOL
Lav...always nice to get those unexpected invites. We're back to hot days and bubble up thunderstorms in the evening.
Wags...sounds like you had a good day yesterday. You have a good attitude towards your Dad, and as long as he's fine and content that's all that matters.
Mick...it was a quiet weekend and I didn't think about work. The event on Saturday (50 year highschool reunion) was a huge success. I'm glad, the organizer was a bit needy but it was a lot of work. Sorry you didn't get your canoeing trip in but you'll have more opportunities. Hope the rabbits were healthy and happy when you picked them up. Good luck at the dentist tomorrow.
Pi...glad you didn't loose power but it seems like you're prepared if that happens. Hope your dentist visit wasn't too bad. Sedation is the only way to go. I just heard your temps are supposed to hit 50C/122F! You take care.
Sam...we've been smoke free for awhile now. It appears eastern Canada is the one getting hit hard now. Some of the pics of the lands on fire are incredible. I also heard that the smoke was heading Mick's way. I was hoping your rat situation was solved but apparently not. Good luck.
NS...I don't really want the thread to move either but I'll go along with whatever everyone wants. I think my response would be "home" as well. I have not interest in traveling anymore, unless we all head over to England.
Well, I'm beat. Hopefully will talk the kids into going and picking something up for supper. I'm good with just a fried egg sandwich. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

Re: 25 June
Greetings friends,
Guess what? It actually rain today (yet) but we’ve had severe storm warnings all day long. The day is not over yet so we’ll see what develops I guess.
Just when you think all your efforts to live in peace are paying off we both got a text message from our daughter-in-law last night. It was an out & out attack on us, in HER view we haven’t done anything to help our son out of a financial situation (that she completely owns) but we have always ‘bailed out’ our daughter . Not a single damn word of that is true, honestly!!! They are looking to buy a bigger house. May not have enough cash -is this our problem?? At this point I wouldn’t hand that girl a nickel. She’s neurotic as hell & obviously delusional. I feel sorry for my son & grandsons but we can’t do anything to fix her. To think she is working as a licensed therapist, geez haha! Sorry, I had to get that out, I felt my B/P rise quickly last night.
Wags, keeping my fingers crossed you two get your vacation cabin. Go & enjoy!!
We were taught in nursing school to always orient a confused person but I found out quickly that backfires big time. What’s th epoint in upsetting them over & over. Just play along, it’s harmless. Maybe we really do get spiritual visits.
Mick, I did not find the pot of gold yesterday & that may be just as well. My DIL would want it too, haha!
I hope the dentist was kind to you today. I’ll have to take a look at your link.
Pie, glad to hear you have a backup plan in case of a power failure. Stay safe & cool!
Sam, the outside was so brown & crispy I was worried about fire too. Glad we got the rain we needed so badly.
No Canadian smoke here anymore.
NS, I have a Facebook page dedicated to my crafty stuff. I’m not real great at keeping it updated but I did put some pics on last week - Kathy’s Embroidered Gifts. I’ll have to get mor eon there soon as advertising for the local Apple Festival in September. I totally agree with the wanting & appreciating what you’ve got train of thought
PQ, Cy, Slo hello to you & anyone else dropping by.
Have a nice night all.

Re: 25 June
Mick and Pie - hope the dental work went smoothly and painlessly for both of you. Not my favorite place to spend time, but I'm grateful there are folks who decide at some point "I want to be a dentist!"
Pie - OMG I've seen how horribly hot it has been in your part of the country/world! I know y'all are pretty used to hot summer weather but this recent heat wave has been hard to even imagine. I hope you're staying safe and well and that your power stays on.
Sam - hopefully you've caught the last rat, or at least word got around and the rest left.
NS - one of my favorite places is definitely home, and I also love to travel so I'd probably name several places and there are many I still hope to visit. I agree with the person who said "wanting and appreciating what you have" (as long as basic needs met, yes). What a great way to frame it.
PQ - glad you're free of smoke AND that the reunion event went well. Hope your week is off to a quiet start.
Lav - that's interesting that you were taught in nursing school to orient a confused person. I wonder if that applies differently when dementia isn't in the picture? I'll check out your FB craft page!
Hellos and waves to everyone. Hope you're all doing well!

hiya NS,how are you doing? hope all is well.havent a clue how or why this thread is as it is ..private?thats the last thing we want ..but it may explain why folk dont appear much ...so if the techie minds can fix it ..then please do.Ive done a fair bit of travelling all over the world ,from Iceland to the South Atlantic, but must agree ,home as in this country is best.We have everything here ..ok the weather could do with a bit of a makeover now and again ,and we suffer from greedy incompetent politicians ...as do most places...but apart from that ..My homeland is Scotland and always will be .
hiya pie ..how did you get on?hope you are ok.The outcome will be worth it .Yep I got stung .Bees decided to build and underground nest in the garden ,contacted the local council ,who sent someone to fix it ..we went on holiday came back and I disturbed what I thought was a vacated site ....wrong..it was like a party scene!!or a comedy ..being chased by a load of bees .so council contacted again ...they will be sending someone out again !

Two elderly women were out driving in a large car, neither one could hardly see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red but they went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself, "I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light!" After a few more minutes they came to another intersection, the light was red, and again they went right through. This time, the passenger was almost sure that the light had been red, but was also concerned that she might be seeing things. She was getting nervous and decided to pay very close attention. At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was definitely red and they went right through it. She turned to the other woman and said, "Mildred! Did you know we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us!" Mildred turned to her and said, "Oh My Gosh!! Am I driving!!?

A couple has a dog that snores.
Annoyed because she can't sleep, the wife goes to the vet to see if he
can help.
The vet tells the woman to tie a ribbon around the dog's testicles, and
he will stop snoring..
'Yeah ............ Right!' She says.
The wife tosses and turns, unable to sleep.
Muttering to herself, she goes to the closet and grabs a piece of red
ribbon and ties it carefully around the dog's testicles..
Sure enough, the dog stops snoring.
The woman is amazed.
Later that night, her husband returns home drunk from being out
drinking with his buddies.
He climbs into bed, falls asleep and immediately begins snoring loudly.
The woman decides maybe the ribbon might work on him.
So, she goes to the closet again, grabs a piece of blue ribbon and ties
it around her husband's testicles.
Amazingly, it also works on him!
The woman sleeps soundly.
The husband wakes from his drunken stupor and stumbles into the bathroom.
As he stands in front of the toilet, he glances in the mirror and sees
a blue ribbon attached to his privates.
He is very confused, and as he walks back into the bedroom, he sees the
red ribbon attached to his dog's testicles.
He shakes his head and looks at the dog and whispers,
'I don't know where we were or what we did, but by heck we took FIRST
and SECOND place!'.

MAN: ?Yes.?
WOMAN: ?I?m at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It?s only $2,000. Is it OK if I buy it??
MAN: ?Sure, go ahead if you like it that much.?
WOMAN:?I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked.?
MAN: ?How much??
WOMAN: ?$50,000.?
MAN: ?OK, but for that price I want it with all the options.?
WOMAN: ?Great! Oh, and one more thing? I was just talking to Kate and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They?re asking $980,000 for it.?
MAN: ?Well, then go ahead and make an offer of $900,000. They?ll probably take it. If not, we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it?s what you really want.?
WOMAN: ?OK. I?ll see you later! I love you so much!?
MAN: ?Bye! I love you, too.?
The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open.
He turns and asks, ?Anyone know who?s phone this is??af since the fourth of July 2012...howzat then America..now proudly marching into year 12

Re: 25 June
Where on earth do you find all of these jokes, Mick?!?!? It is generous of you to take the time to share the laughs. I know you and the US have a big celebration next week. How many years will it be for you?
Lav, I will go look up your page - thanks! I'm sorry about your DIL. It seems like things had calmed down for your family but her jealousy of your daughter must still be there. It is so hard to have rifts with or between our kids
Wags, I don't know if my dad was ever able to do it but my sister and I stopped re-orienting my mom and just met her where she was. It kept her calmer and more engaged. Some of the places her mind took us to were hard to understand but others were downright hilarious. She was aware enough to know that when we corrected her she was forgetting again and it clearly bothered her. It was so much more pleasant to simply follow her.
Sam, I used rats as an experimental model and was fine with them but I think I'd go crazy if I encountered one outside that lab! I hope you've trapped them all by now.
I'm not a fan of dentists, either. I've only had a few cavities, fortunately, but it turns out my nerves are not in the typical pattern so by the time they find the right place to anesthetize, practically my whole face is numb! Hope things went ok, Pie.
PQ, do you live with your kids? Or am I confused? I think the Canadian smoke came our way --it is sort of hazy and the AQI is 126 or something like that. It is even worse in the Chicago area. I'm not sure where you are in the midwest, TT, but I hope you're not being choked!
Are you joining some of your family for the 4th, Slo? We are hosting a cookout here for several recent immigrants. I guess I better put together an All-American BBQ!

Re: 25 June
Good evening friends,
The rain storms continue here, they just come & go. No damage locally or anything like that so it’s all good.
I’ve gotten my B/P back to a happy place, thanks for listening to my rant. I know from previous episodes with her there will be no attempt at an apology or any sort of explanation of what set her off. I really don’t care, we don’t need to be best friends or anything. I’m just amazed how nasty & entitled she can be at times. She’s not getting anything from us - ever!
Wags, hope your day was good. I had plans to do some updating on my FB page this week, will get to it eventually.
Mick, thanks for the lavender video. That was my dream, once upon a time having a huge lavender field to cut & sell. I wouldn’t trust myself with a sickle though haha!! I do have several varieties growing around the house outside & it surely attracts plenty of bees. I did get stung by a few many years ago while trying to tidy up the beds. Hope your stings are a little better. Can you get a Benadryl topical product or cortisone? They both help me lot when I react to something. Good luck, feel better
NS, my DIL is bipolar & now that she’s working on her doctorate the rest of us are just stupid & useless in her mind. She can think whatever she wants but I’ll never forgive her driving such a huge wedge between my daughter & my son. That’s just not forgivable especially when she was welcomed to the family. She was an only & adopted child herself so she has no clue how ‘normal families’ behave. I can’t fix her, won’t waste my energy trying.
Your retirement quilt is gorgeous, you should be quite proud!!!
Cyn, thinking of you. Hello to Slo, Sam, Pie & everyone.
Have a nice night all!
