      Re: 25 June

      Greetings all,

No rain today but lots of crappy smoky air. The code red alert still intact. Only did what I had to do outside & spent the rest of my time inside.
I’m trying to push the weaning process with these kittens so I can find them homes. I have two eating canned cat food, the third is just not ready. While I was outside supervising the kittens I watched my dog swallow a screaming baby rabbit alive. I could have died right there & then. Yesterday my young cat killed one while I was outside. These animals make me really sick sometimes
I got a huge vase of Amish grown flowers today for our 50th anniversary tomorrow. They really do such a nice job. I can’t believe we haven’t killed one another over the last 50 years haha!

PQ, I’m so sorry you’re feeling so anxious about work right now. Something has to give & I hope the boss pays attention to your requests. It certainly would help a lot
Stay cool during your heat spell. It’s hot here too but the smoke is what’s getting everyone attention.

Cyn, I figured you were busy & it seems I was right.
My DIL has been lucky so far, she hasn’t seen my God given ability to verbally protect myself. I grew up with 3 brothers so I have experience, haha.
So nice of you to continue to take care of the homeless population. I donate regularly to the food pantry & Neighborhood Services center in this area. So many of farm laborers need a hand with food & essentials. Good luck with the B12, it helps me a lot/

Wags, hope your day was good!

Mick, that’s a shame they had to transport Julie’s dad just for a simple skin tag removal. They are done easily enough at the bedside. It would make sense if they had someone making house calls for minor procedures like that, even a nurse.
Enjoy your sun while it lasts, we know how these things come & go. Your lavender looks like the English lavender I have but I’m never totally sure haha. As long as it smells & looks nice it’s OK with me I wondered if any of my ancestors owned one of those Scottish castles!

Pie, I wish you quick healing. It’s no fun to be sore & swollen especially in extreme heat. You take good care!

NS, we don’t need anymore smoke - really!!! I’m afraid there’s nothing we can to to stop it though. We are supposed to have thunderstorms Saturday & Sunday so maybe that will help? Who knows? Enjoy the grandson time this weekend!

Sam, I hope your music gigs are inside so you don’t have to deal with the crappy air this weekend. Have fun!

Hello to the rest & wishing everyone a nice night!

        Re: 25 June

MAE ALL…well I did absolutely nothing today. Haha A huge thunderstorm just started up and apparently there’s more on the way.

TG…thanks for letting us know your website, I’ll be checking it out. Sounds like you’ve had your hands full as well.

Wags…hope the visit with your Dad was a good one and your day today wasn’t as crazy.

Mick…what an ordeal with Julie’s Dad. I’m glad the nurses stayed with him. So, I have to confess I did stare at the clown for a minute. Thanks a lot.

NS…the heat warning is usually issued when the overnight temps don’t cool down. AC is more and more common now, thankfully we’ve always had it.

Sam…hope the smoke clears for you soon. Have fun with your gigs this weekend.

Lav…oh my, bad dog. Good luck with getting the kittens weaned. I think I need to stick up for myself more and recognize when I’ve had enough and insist on time away. I think he’ll pay more attention now. We have talked about how to deal with the workload but it’s going to take some time. I have booked the 2 weeks of vacation I have left and a couple of days for time in lieu. At least all my event obligations are done till November now.

Waves to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all…:smile:PPQP

          Re: 25 June

Mick - sorry to hear of the difficulties for Julie's dad's transport home from the hospital. Of course it was nurses who stuck around! Love all the facts about Scotland. My family is actually Scottish on my dad's side, but sadly I've never been there nor do I know very much of the history. Thanks for adding a bit to my knowledge!

TG - Good job getting your eblast posted! I'm in awe of the work you do to help feed homeless/houseless folks in your area. The fact that you do such compassionate and giving work says a lot about you. :heartbeat: I've actually read the book "Final Gifts" - I discovered it after my mom passed away 15 years ago and was sad I hadn't found it while she was still around as it would have helped me understand her journey and transition a bit more. I've thought about the possibility that my dad is starting to shift a bit away from this earthly chapter. I'm sort of preparing myself for a bunch of different ways the next few/several months might go, hoping only that he's got good quality of life while here and that he knows he can leave when it's time.

Slo - I'm sorry to hear about the gathering. I hope you're able to have a wonderful day in a different way.

NS, Slo and Lav - that smoke sounds brutal. We are normally the ones over here on the west coast who get the terrible fires and smoky air. Poor Canada! And also poor states getting hit by the south- and east-moving smoke.

Pie - hope your recovery from dental work is smooth and easy. Sounds like you're doing a good job being gentle with yourself.

A good day here in Wagland. My dad was happy to see me yesterday - out in the dining area just finishing a piece of pie when I arrived. Almost the first thing out of his mouth was, "needless to say, my dad didn't visit." So we just talked about how it's been a long time since he last saw him, and that maybe there will be another opportunity. Every time I visit, I leave feeling grateful he's there, whether he's lucid and chatting about a recent outing, or in a delirium worried about something. It's such a relief for me.

With the U.S. holiday next week (Independence Day) my work load will be fairly light, but that's typically not a good time to be traveling the highways so we're gonna stay home but do fun things nearby. We promised ourselves we'd do 2 local field trips between Sun-Wed. It's supposed to be hot, so probably morning outings and then back home to enjoy a shady backyard.

Hellos and waves to everyone I missed and happy Fridays to all!

              Re: 25 June

Hello to Everyone! I'm trying to get back in the swing of things after being gone off work for 4 weeks (feels like 4 months). There is a lot more activity on this thread!

We had a good time in Italy, but there were some conflicts with my husband. He was in "escape life & gluttony" mode, and I was in "try not to drink in Italy, and find gluten free food" mode, so we clashed. He was quite unsupportive. We have some relationship things to hash out. I have found myself wondering (sometimes out loud) if I could ever have one glass of wine with a meal ever again - especially after listening to the Italians and my husband. My son very quickly said NO! I was drinking 3+ drinks per night for years and COULD. NOT. STOP. when I tried - I hated how alcohol controlled me. I have to keep remembering what has changed for me - though I will admit I am feeling really "off" after this trip.

Slo, you mentioned the volume going up in crowds of drinkers and how apparent it is that it is chemically-derived... I agree so much. I told my son the other day that I actually just don't have much interest in "fake" happiness induced by substances. It is really clear to me that it is not real/natural. Though I've been feeling a little depressed lately.

Wags, I'm so glad to hear that you are feeling some relief with your dad's living situation. Maybe he WAS contacted by his dad...?

Lav, I'd like to be better at verbal judo. Bummer about the bunny!

Mick, my family genealogy goes way back to Kent England. Did you say you are in York? I try to imagine your posts with an accent

Hi to Porquio, Samstone and others. Sorry about the air quality for those of you in the muck of it. It's the worst!

I'm going for a run to try to clear my head, then back to work. It's hard getting my brain to work right now... maybe recovering from gluten on the trip or maybe it just liked the slower pace!! HA!

              Best to everyone.

                Re: 25 June

                Good evening friends,

The air quality hasn?t improved much yet, I can smell smoke even inside the house, ugh. It really bothers my eyes & throat. Looking for more improvement over the weekend but the temps will be in the 90?s with all the usual humidity. Can?t catch a break haha!

Kensho, it is very hard getting back into work mode especially after such a fabulous trip. Sorry your husband is still worrying about what he wants & not what you need. Marriage is supposed to be about give & take, I know it?s not always as equal as we?d like. We?re ?celebrating? our 50th wedding anniversary today by doing nothing, it?s what he wants. I have no energy left to worry about this stuff. Talk to him about the give/take aspect of marriage every once in a while, hang in there! Never forget we need to protect our peace & our quits at all times. The other people in our lives just don?t understand the hell we went thru to get to where we are now.

Mick, I?m still mad at my dog & she has no clue why. I almost broke my neck trying to get the bunny away from her but it was too late
Glad you still have interest in your trains. The ?newer? folks here will love seeing your videos Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.

Wags, glad your Dad is OK & safe where he is, that?s a big thing!
I don?t blame you for staying home during the holidays, traffic is completely insane. Add in a bunch of drunk drivers on the roads - no way!!!
I always appreciate the check points on the highways with the State Troopers keeping everyone as safe as possible.

PQ, feel free to send your thunder storms this way, maybe they will clear the air for us
I was able to get all 3 of the kittens to eat the canned food today, so we?re making progress. They are super cute so I hope I can find homes for them.

Hello to Cyn, Slo, Sam, Pie & anyone else dropping by tonight.
I hope everyone has a nice night!

                  Re: 25 June

MAE ALL...nice quiet day at work, didn't try to get too much done as the 3 other co-workers just wanted to sit around and chat. LOL A tornado warning has been issued just south of us and I'm just waiting for our pop up thunderstorm. It's not supposed to be anything like the deluge we got yesterday.

Pi...I can't believe I missed you on my post yesterday. I hope the swelling has come down and that you're surviving the heat. Good job planting heat tolerant flowers, you're a smart one.

Wags.. I thought that was a good response to your Dad's remark about his Dad not visiting him. I love your promise to do 2 local field trips, I hope they're fun, relaxing and rejuvenating.

Mick..."My friend went bald years ago. He still carries his old comb around with him. He just can't part with it." Here's your coat. LOL It's got to be pretty hot up in the train loft these days. Has Julie done anything more on the doll house? Like Lav said, you'll have to post at least a pic of the trains for the newbies.

Kensho...did the run help clear the head? I can't imagine taking 4 weeks off in a row, I'd have a heart attack trying to get through the backlog. Sorry you're feeling off after the trip but I'm not surprised. I'm a routine person and feel off when that gets interrupted.

Lav...working on sending the thunderstorms and deluge of rain to you. I was so glad when the smoke finally moved off so I hope that happens soon for you. Good job on getting all 3 of the kittens eating canned food. The 2 I saw were super cute and I hope you get them forever homes soon. Now to stop Momma from bringing home another litter.

Canada Day tomorrow and apart from grocery shopping I'm not partaking in anything. Everyone is gearing up for the start of the Stamped on Friday and I'll be staying away from all those events as well.

Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

                    Re: 25 June

                    Howdy doody,

50 years, Lav?! Congratulations on holding a marriage together for half a century!! The large bouquet of Amish-grown flowers sounds lovely.

PQ, glad you got a day off the other day to decompress, recover, and just be.
Ah, so your son didn’t have THIS Friday off.
So the big drunk-fest, the Stampede has rolled around again.

Kensho, that had to be tough traveling with your husband. My marriage was unraveling over some trips like that, where I realized that my husband really wanted
drinking culture to be a big part of the vacation(s), and I felt like I was in the way and holding him back.

Good idea to weave in a couple local excursions over this long weekend, Wags.

We’re hot here. I was a sweaty mess today from traveling to & fro to another city for my Gokhale appointment, and then went out for dinner with my mother who is now living there -because my car air conditioner is broken. The smoke in the air doesn’t seem too bad though. Sounds like it’s worse by Lav.

I’ve been wondering about your trains and Julie’s dollhouse too, Mick; but figured maybe they are more your Winter projects. Thanks for all the info about Scotland. It sounds so lovely with all the castles and lakes.

NS, yes, I had better make sure to really enjoy these grandchildren during these fleeting, precious, really young years.

TG, I think I have read that book ‘Final Gifts’ as well. I’ll have to double check on that.

Good night. When I wake up, it will be July!

                      MAE everyone

It's the end of June already! To me it seems like this year is flying by - does anyone else feel that way?

Lav - congrats on 50 years of marriage. Sorry to hear about your dog and the bunny though

PQ - so glad your boss actually realized you could use a day off the other day. Hope you have a nice quiet holiday weekend. And then Stampede is Calgary right? I've heard that kind of takes over the whole area - is that right? Seems like a good time to lie low and stay off the roads.

Kensho - I'm really sorry to hear that was the dynamic with your husband on your Italy trip. It sounds terribly difficult, and I'm sure having this friction while traveling was even harder. I hope you're able to have some real conversations with him soon.

Slo - no car AC during hot weather is not fun at all. I bet when it was smoky too you were miserable since I doubt you wanted to drive around with your windows down.

Mick - please do fill us new folks in on the trains

Sam - hope your gigs are fantastic!

Hellos and waves to Pi, TG, NS and everyone else I'm forgetting at the moment. I'm so tired my eyes are starting to cross so I need to say goodnight and go to bed. Catch you all this weekend!

MAE ALL….went out to go for a walk, got half way down the block and had to turn back, way too hot and the humidity starting to roll in. I am definitely not used to humidity, thunderstorm warnings just to the west of us.

Slo…son had Friday off and he has Monday off. Sure, his boss gives him 2 days off my boss, none. LOL That’s exactly how my Thursday went, decompressed, recovered and just was. Friday was a nice quiet day and Monday will be too, it’s a DF day. LOL I normally don’t run the AC in my car but I have been the last few days. Glad the smoke isn’t too bad, at least you can roll the windows down.

Wags…I am totally with you; this year has flown by. It seems every year goes by faster than the last. Yup, Stampede is Calgary, it takes over the whole city. Used to be, I could hardly wait for it. Liquor service starts at 7am and last call is 4am. A 3-hour break, I’m just glad I wasn’t in the hospitality industry then. Nobody works, at least not more than 2 hours and there’s a party at every corner. Now, I stay as far away from everything as I can.

Mick…be thankful for the rain, I hear the smoke is on its way to you. My rodeo days are over. Haha When my oldest was 6 months old we decorated a carriage, hooked it up to the horses and rode in the parade. That was pretty cool, got a call from a friend in BC saying she saw me in the parade. Love the sausage pie.

I’ll check back later and see how the rest of the gang is doing. Have a great day all….:smile:PPQP

                            Re: 25 June

                            Greetings friends,

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain today & tomorrow. Hope it waits until tomorrow, the men people are at an evening baseball game tonight. Much less smoke in the air today, yay.
My daughter has two family members who want kittens so she came out today & got them. She’s going to pamper them for another week or so before letting them go. I really appreciate her help! Now I’m hearing her neighbor wants the remanning kitten. I’m definitely keeping that one another week or so since she was the tiniest one at birth & needs to catch up. I know my daughter’s neighbor, she’s a nice lady & will take good care of the kitten. As far as the mama cat goes - she never would have had this litter if I could have trapped her & gotten her spayed when I wanted to do so. She’s 100% friendly but will not let me pick her up so I can’t get her into a crate. I’m going to need a tranquilizer dart or something for Penny.

Wags, hope your weekend is quiet, safe & restful

PQ, Happy Canada day to you! Aren’t you grateful you won’t be poisoning yuorself like the rest?? Who needs that? Not us!!!

Slo, I just shake my head in amazement that 50 years has gone by. Not all good & not alll bad. My daughter actually asked me how I felt about it & all I could say was I can’t put it in words. I think she undertsood.

Mick, I think I’m in position to get rain from the west & from teh east, geez. At least the air is begining to clear a bit.
I’m keeping the dog inside for the most part today since she can’t be trusted. Takes me a while to forgive her raunchy behavior.
                            Love the Pi sausage haha!

Hello to Kensho, Cyn, Pie, Sam & anyone else stopping by tonight.
I think I’ll go sit in front of the sewing machine for a while & see what happens.
                            Have a nice night all!

                              Mae all -

So nice to read everyone's updates. Sorry to be away, I am trying to keep the "screen time" to a minimum to see if it helps my fatigue.

Thanks Lav, for the B12 recommendation - Igot some folate also for absorption - I hope to feel better soon. Congrats on your 50 years... you've been through a lot - you are to be so admired for all you have done to be yourself and keep family going - awesome. Sorry about the little critters - I guess the big ones are just doing what comes naturally, but it's hard to see... hope your sewing machine gave you some good vibes!

Mick, what an ordeal for Julie's dad... glad the nurses hung around. ?Cave-dwellers outlawed? Why? My family castle is in Dunbar, in ruins on the coast... I hope to visit some day. Hope your "bites" are feeling better.
Pie - so sorry for the extreme heat - what an ordeal. also sorry for the tooth swelling... hope that gets fixed soon.
Sam, congrats on 3 gigs! Super!
Slo - so sorry about your AC in the car - hope that gets fixed soon. Ah, family gatherings, there's always crazy energy around those - take care -
Wags - it is so heartening to hear how gentle you are with your father, and that you have so much gratitude for his presence. Really lovely -
Kensho - welcome home. It is so hard to talk with people who don't understand what it is that we must do to stay healthy. Especially when the thing that they think is "normal" is actually imbibing a neuro-toxin that highly addictive. I spend a lot of time "translating" in my head during those conversations. You're supported here! Brava for staying the course while traveling - very impressive!
Apologies if I missed anyone - - we have finally had some good rain here - it's been over a month, and with the heat everything was looking like straw bales had come loose and spread themselves everywhere. I am seeing some green now - very welcome. I am thrilled to be going nowhere for this holiday weekend, and will stay away from any fireworks - not my thing, and I'm always so sorry for how it upsets the pets... it's not a holiday that matters much to me, so I'll stay in and safe and cool...
                              Wishing all well -
                              TG
