The hotel at the new place you booked looks gorgeous, Mick! And this week you have a longer holiday than expected. Enjoy!
You sure keep yourself busy with home & yard upkeep. I just can’t find that kind of energy. And to top it off, pain radiates from my bum knee when I’m active & mobile. I likes to sit.

I see more Sandhill Cranes around here rather than Great Blue Herons, TG. The herons are very prehistoric-looking.

Your allergies and sinus pressure sounds miserable, Lav.

Wags, oh, that will work, as long as you have another spate where your schedule lightens later this Summer.

It was very nice being at the beach with baby Andy and his parents and my sister. The niece & nephews made an appearance too. The water was nice & warm, clear and shallow. I got plenty of sun. Got a nice bike ride in too on a gorgeous evening, after the little family left my place. Babies are intense. I’m glad to see them, but glad to see them go too!

Today features a quiet Sunday on the Day of Rest!

      Greetings everyone,

Well it finally rained at 4 pm, my sinuses are happier haha! I was really getting pretty fed up with that mess. Hopefully some of the dust/dander allergens drowned. Found one of my chickens in poor condition this morning, separated her from the others so could could die in peace. Not sure what happened to her but she was less than three years old.

Mick, you lucky dawg, Menorca sounds like a great place to go. We can get to Bermuda or the Bahamas in about the same amount of time, haven?t done that in ages. Enjoy your trip(s) & RELAX a little Lol. You work so much, I feel like a slug, oh well.

Slo, glad you enjoyed your beach day with the family, sounds perfect actually.
I know I don?thave the energy for babies anymore. My 3 grandkids took all of mine haha. Hope you are resting today!

Wags, how was the visit with your Dad? Hope all went well.

I?m going to check the weather forecast & see if it?s safe to use my machines for a while. We have several electrical surges during the rain storm, typical around here.
Hello to PQ, Cyn, NS, Sam, Pie & everyone checking in later.

      Have a nice night everyone!

Mick - Menorca looks like a beautiful place for a holiday/vacation! I hope your Yorkshire travels go smoothly as well. I for one will live vicariously through you for a bit until my own vacation comes around later in August.

Lav - glad you finally got some rain to break the heat. That always feels so good when it finally happens! Sorry to hear about your poor chicken though

Slo - what you described sounds like the perfect family visit: you're happy while they're there, and you're happy when they leave. Good for you on the bike ride too - I need to get out and do more of that. It's not as fun without my wife and since her hand surgery biking has been impossible. Ah well, we'll ride again soon.

Great visit with my dad today. He was in good spirits and seemed pretty oriented. He's also completed more of the crossword puzzle I took him, and he's working his way through a few books. All good news! I had a nice convo with one of his caregivers as well - she's figured out how to use humor to help cajole him out of his room, and he really seems to like her. I'm SO grateful!

Hellos and waves everybody I didn't catch personally - hope your new weeks all start off well!

Well I'm resurfacing again and glad to see all of you!!

Had a great visit with my cousin. I think I talked more in the last 4 days than in the previous 4 months, though! She, my dad, my sister, and I had a great time reminiscing with each story triggering other memories. We each learned some things for the first time. The food issues worked out fine. She liked the dairy replacements and really enjoyed all the lettuce, herbs, and greens from our garden.

Lav, is your area flooding? It looks like the NE is getting swamped!

Mick, you certainly travel to nice places. This looks like one to really look forward to.

Your time with Andy sounds fun, Slo. It sure doesn't seem like your divorce has affected your family time other than when your ex is sort of in charge. It is so great that you are fully present for all the people that are now in your life.

Wags, so glad to hear your dad is doing well -that takes off so much background and acute stress!!

I need to go find last week's thread and see how you all are doing. Hi, to PQ, TG, Pie, Sam, Steady, and any other abstainers

Hiya Everyone! Just stopping by between a jog outside in the heat and getting back to work!

Mick, sounds like you got in some great outdoor time! I would like to have more opportunities to get my hands dirty someday. Complete with a garden and chicken hutch! I'm envious of your land and flowers, but I have no doubt that it is hard work! A great substitute for drinking life away

Slo, sounds like a nice bike ride and (beach?) time! Yes, love to snuggle babies, but I remember how much care they take!

Lav, glad you got some rain. Colorado is drought free for the first time in decades... it has been a really weird and wet year! I'm sure it will flip at some point. You used to be the one getting endless rain... Sorry about your hen.

Hi Wags! Where will you go in August? I'm glad things are going well with your dad. It seems like such a puzzle to figure out how to best work with folks who have different brain abilities and memories. Humor has such benefits in ALL areas of life... trying to remember that more.

Well, I'm coming around with my passings with wanting to drink. I wanted "one" glass of wine at dinners in Tuscany (I didn't). Then since then, I've been really wanting to be closer to my husband, so wanting to join him. Yesterday, I asked him if he had gone a day without drinking in the last 5 weeks (since leaving for Italy) and he hadn't. I told him that I enjoyed being with him when he was less in toxic eat and drink mode because he is more present and less irritable. Of course, he tried to blame me for this and made it my problem for being unable to enjoy life like he can (!), but at dinner he said he was trying to go the night without drinking and really, really, really wanted a beer. I casually said, you need to have another drink in your hand and focus on something fun coming up. He said he had had two sparkling waters already, so I offered to make him a lemon water. He accepted and I kept him busy with conversation. I don't fool myself that he will want to quit, but I see him sinking more into his "food and drink to escape" mode. It made me realize that I DON'T, I repeat DON'T want to go back to drinking. He can glorify it all he wants, but when he drives home impaired from a concert 45 miles away (like last week) and struggles to abstain for a night... well, that's exactly why I stopped. Not because my life was falling apart, but because alcohol controlled me. Not any more!

Have a great day everyone! +

                Good evening friends,

Sunny & not quite as hot today, nice
We did not have any flooding in our area but there was quite a bit not too far from here. That’s what happens when you get 7” of rain in an hour, yikes!!!! Glad we were spared all that mess. Back to working on my crafty stuff today, peaceful.

Kensho, you & I & everyone here knows why we quit. I am personally proud of all of us. When you open your eyes & accept that a stupid toxic substance is ruining your life there’s only one thing to do - quit!!! I say keep showing your husband that life is indeed better without AL, maybe he will jumpon board too.

Mick, rain on not I know you & all the bunnies in the area will be having a great time, haha! Enjoy

NS, I’m glad you enjoyed your cousin’s visit, sound nice!

Wags, good to hear your Dad is settled down. A little humor goes a long way in helping people relax & getting a conversation going. I always had that tool in my tool belt & it worked beautifully with my patients. Hope your day was good!

Hello to pQ, Slo, Cyn, Pie, Sam & everyone stopping by tonight.
Back to work for a while.

                Have a nice night all!

MAE ALL...thought about posting yesterday, read the posts from yesterday, didn't post. I ended up going into work on Saturday to set up some audio/visual equipment for a renter. I'm glad I did as now I know the night staff has been trained properly. LOL

Mick..day late but thanks for kicking off this week's thread. Boy, you had a busy Sunday! Did you leave anything to do when you get home? LOL Are you sure you don't take the rain with you when you travel? Wow, flying to Mooerca! It's been a long time since you've flown for vacation. Hope the weather forecast is wrong for the rest of you current get away.

Slo...sounds like you had a lovely Saturday, you deserved it. Hope you had a peaceful Day of Rest on Sunday as if I remember correctly you're Huxley sitting today.

Wags...I live vicariously through Mick as well. Good to hear that your visit with your Dad yesterday was a good one. Gotta love those caregivers that go the extra mile for their clients. My week has start off good, nice and quiet.

NS...good to see you too. Glad the food choices worked out for your cousin, and that you had a great reminiscing visit. Those are the best.

Kensho...sounds like you had a great mature conversation with your hubs and that he's thinking about his drinking, that's a positive sign. Good for you not falling for it's all your fault.

Lav...I knew you would post while I was posting so waited to say hi to you last. Glad your sinuses were happier on Sunday. LOL Sorry to hear about one of your chickens. We continue to be under a heat warning with pop up thunderstorms. As I type I just hear the thunder. Supposed to last all Stampede. LOL Glad to hear you're able to get back to your crafting today.

Not too late pickup from my son tonight and now that I've posted it's time to start dinner. Making tacos so that's easy peasy. Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

                    Re: 9th July .

                    Mae all -

Great to read through and see where everyone "is" tonight. What a lovely group of folks.

Sorry to be away... I am forcing myself right at this moment to stay awake enough to write a few lines. (Lav, I think at some points the b12 is working... but I am still dragging myself around.) 9 PM is definitely "lights out" for me... and my usual walks are seemingly much tougher now... maybe it's the heat... hopefully things will clear up soon, and I'll be more awake! I definitely need to post early in the day though - that's one change I can make...

Pi- I hope we hear from you - I keep seeing the super-heat maps showing your part of TX... I hope that you are doing okay... maybe that cute wagon is useful for bringing extra cool supplies and water to your home...

Lav, sorry about the chicken... I guess when it's time, it's time... so kind of you to separate her from the flock. Hoping you are getting cool and calm time at your sewing...

SLO - sounds like a nice quiet time - I'm so glad that you can bike without pain! I pd a bunch of money to get my bike all working well, but haven't used it all that much - will take a page out of your book...

PPQ - sounds like wild weather. Glad you could use the time to "train in" whomever needs to know that stuff... hopefully you'll be off the hook for that. Those tacos sound good!

Mick - and you're off again! Sorry about the rain, but it all sounds beautiful.

Wags - such good news about your dad - humor is a great tool - wonderful that there are nurses there with lots of tools.

Kensho - so few people understand that not only is AL addictive, the substance use is progressive - truly progressive, inescapable... so... really so impressive that you are "leading by example"! Hopefully the idea will get to him at some point. Sorry you have to defend your decision... but great job staying in your peace - you'll never regret it...

NS - here's hoping all is well with you! The visit with your cousin sounds great - congrats on making that happen.

Okay, I'm going to wander down the hall and fall into bed!!

                    Wishing all well -
                    TG

Good morning everyone how are we today then question mark hope all is well. I have been up since 4:30 a.m. it is now 6 30 and I am on my second cup of tea. The weather up here is pretty grim mostly raining all the time come on but fairing off at times as well. Such a pity for the show, but you either put up with it or sit in a tin box all day and that isn't going to happen! Went for a walk earlier on this morning comma really really peaceful there where hundreds of rabbits around the place absolutely brilliant who stop this site is probably one of the most upmarket ones I have been on, there is a golf course a swimming pool a large lake and various other things there is also a permanent residency on here too ie mobile homes static caravans etc. Just going to have a shower then get breakfast then walk up to the show. I was really tired last night, we usually go to bed and watch a bit of television, never even made that. I was out like a light full stop please excuse any crazy phraseology or grammar mistakes in this, I am dictating it to my phone and as we all know it has a mind of its own. For all those that are relatively new here, I told you that you would learn a new language completely! Apologies for not addressing people individually but it is kind of difficult on the phone, but I do read every single individual post. Here are some pictures around the site, apologies to those who have already seen them and yes I have brought my own rabbit entourage with me! Hope you all have a great day irrespective of what you are doing

Hi all, we got a break from the heat last week with 5 days of glorious rain! Back to hot and dry now though, so time to start watering again. Yes, little red wagon is used to haul garden hoses and water around the condo property.

Anyone familiar with The Moth stories? Usually I listen to their Story Hour on NPR each Saturday. Anyway, there?s a Story Slam happening live tonight here in Houston. Bought my ticket, and planning to use Uber for transportation to and from downtown. This is a big adventure for me! Will let you know how it goes.

I love the Moth Radio Hour, Pie. Some of the stories are so funny, poignant, etc. etc. I hope you enjoy the live event! They came to my town awhile ago but we were unable to go. We have managed to catch David Sedaris and The Capitol Steps a few times, though, and they were great. Those are my only NPR events that I remember.

My cousin told me how she and her partner quit drinking wine daily during the pandemic as they saw what that was doing to them. I shared that I had figured that out over 10 years ago and was happy to have it behind me. It was nice not to feel like I should serve wine at dinner which seems to be expected by so many people.

At the end of our reminiscing weekend, she said let's not drift apart again so we can make NEW memories

It is great that you can express yourself to your husband like that, Kensho. One of these days he may be ready to hear you.

I'm on camp Driver Duty today so need to head out. Hi to all Abstainers!

                            Greetings friends,

Sunny & hot here again, just like summer haha!
I find I am so intolerant of hot weather I just can’t stay outside long. So I water one section of flowers, run back inside to cool off then out again to water another section. It’s just the way it goes for me these days. I really feel for the poor folks who work outside all day.

PQ, sounds like you have things under control, for now Lol. I am happy for you & hope it lasts a good long while.
I cleared out the fridge for dinner tonight so I’ll have to start with something new tomorrow but don’t know what yet. I don’t care for big heavy meals when it’s hot so it has to be something light.

Cyn, glad to hear you’re starting to see some benefits from the B vits. Maybe you are like me & just feel the heat more than others do. I feel draggy in this weather. My best time is actually winter!! Go figure!! Take care of yourself regardless.

Mick, I’m pretty sure it’s the trail of carrot crumbs you leave everywhere & that’s why rabbits follow you around haha!
Glad you’re making the best of the rainy days on your trip. Have fun, that’s what it’s all about

Pie, I hope you enjoy the NPR event, sounds like a great time!!! Stay cool as best you can.

NS, making new memories sounds ideal. I hope you & your cousin stay connected. All of my cousins seem to have disappeared over the years, don’t even know them any more which is sad. Hope the kids are enjoying the day camps.

Hello to the rest of the crowd & wishing everyone a nice night!

MAE ALL...2 days in a row off, wonder if I can handle it. LOL In on Friday but it's a DF day. Next Friday will find me dog sitting for my brother. They're doing Christmas in July at one family's ranch with a 4 level swimming pool.

TG?9pm is my bedtime, I've had enough of the day. LOL I think the heat has a big effect on your energy. I do feel more comfortable leaving things up to the night staff now that I've done the training. LOL Hope you made it all the way down the hall before falling into bed. LOL

Mick...only 2 cuppa's in 2 hours, that's pretty good. Too bad about the weather but it sounds like you?re making the best of it. I think upmarket is a perfect description of the site you're on. It's lovely. There are more and more sites west of here that are offering permanent residency and people are flocking to them with the high rental costs in the city. They're nothing like your site though. Sounds like you're getting the rest/sleep you need to rejuvenate. Glad to see you're not without your rabbits. I think Lav has a point about your carrot crumb trail. LOL

Pi?ah, the little red wagon makes perfect sense now. Glad you got a short break from the heat with the rain. I hadn't heard of the Moth stories, so looked it up. Also now know what NPR stands for. LOL I totally agree that tonight is a big adventure for you, well done on stepping up to the challenge. You?ve got a good plan and I hope it's everything that it can be for you. Looking forward to the update.

NS...obviously others know about the Moth, my excuse is I live in Canada eh! Wow, quitting drinking during the pandemic, that's a switch. Good on them. Isn't it great to share and everyone gets it. What a great target, making new memories. Good luck with your Camp Driver Duties.

Lav...I couldn't imagine having to work outside in this heat. I feel so sorry for roofers. Tell me, do the non watering sections kinda lean towards you while you're watering that section. LOL I'm feeling pretty good about how things are at work right now. Had my one-on-one with the boss today and we talked about the upcoming employee performance review, due Aug 1st. First step is personal employee evaluation and he had sent out an email stating that he expects most of us to rate ourselves as MEETS. That's the goal to maintain and if you rate yourself as EXCEEDS he?d like examples to see why you rated yourself as that. He said for example, you go out of your way to make sure client's experience is their best, organize and put on an exceptional community cleanup, fit time in your day to organize an event (Christmas craft fair) that isn't happening for 6 months, question staff on why certain things are not done and suggest procedures they can follow. Sorry for beating my own drum but he did make me feel valued.

I have had a few more emails about the craft fair so now that I've got fall programming done will open that worm hole on Friday. Time to let the public vendors wanting a table to register and let the organizing/compromising begin.
Shout out to the rest of our gang. Have a good night all?.:smile:PPQP
