    Re: 9th July .

    Mae all -

Lovely to read everything that's going on with all -

Mick - I was able to see the video before I logged on - wow. But I was only able to watch them do the first jump - I thought "If he goes for those bigger jumps I'm going to freak out". So I turned it off... But so good to know about that festival... and the place you are staying. It's making me think that I should by a little "tin can" and just settle in your country in a place like that. A pile of books, hiking maps, bunnies abounding... what else could one need?

Pi - I LOVE the Moth Radio Hour on NPR... I always say that I'm not going to listen, and then I do - and then I say I'm not going get teary, and sure enough, I do that too... So glad that you had such a special time at the event - (and became a judge!). Wonderful to live vicariously through that!

NS - I made a move to the city where I grew up, and where my cousins live - I've seen more of them in the past year than I did growing up! They are younger than I am, and so I'm seeing all the special times for their kids... weddings, etc. So glad you can enjoy that...

PPQ - Yep, I ditto all - Boss sounds like he definitely took a page out of your book. Nice. Now the $$$!

Wags - sorry you had to deal with the headache; glad that's over. I was at a Pride Mass last night at a downtown Cathedral - great music from the wonderful local gay choir. Tomorrow I will be helping hand out waters and treats to the Parade goers... we have a lot of people in the congregation who are in the LGBT++++ world, and it is a thrill to see the emotions and connections.

SLO - I second/third what all others have said - we love you and value you - sometimes you can't get in someone else's head, so... energy spent on loving self is always welcome! Good luck.

Lav - ditto the heat intolerance. June here was like the Sahara - no rain and 90s all month. July is at least providing some rain. So impressed that you have found a modality that might help you with the IBS... such a tough condition to live with. Sending you good energy, and hoping it will really help.

Hello to Sam and anyone I missed... I am challenging myself to post once daily on a business FB page I have, (related to my website...) but trying to do it in a softer, gentler way... talking about death and grief all the time is not really the way to win friends and influence people! So, I'm starting small and getting my feet wet again after 2 years off... I'm not jumping back into Instagram yet though...uuuuuugh. Lav, I usually do these posts at night, and then am so tired that I fall asleep and forget to log off! Hopefully I'll get that straightened out...

    May all be well -

NS - I am very curious to hear more about the AI with writing exploration you might do. I find AI to be both fascinating and terrifying.

Lav - it's interesting to hear that after a career in healthcare you feel so strongly about staying out of that system as a patient if possible. I'm not surprised at all - if anything, hearing you say that reinforces my own feelings and preferences.

Mick - ah Mick, you almost bring such humor to the thread. I especially liked the penguin joke today!

PQ - hope the smoke clears out again soon

Hellos and waves to Slo, Pi, and everyone else. Have good nights and days!

hiya alll how are we doing? just got home ...job done ...off to pick rabbits up in a minute ...pouring down with rain ,but a decent run home ,though I had to go through the centre of Leeds .Had a great time at the show ,some fascinating stuff ..yesterday they had the cattle parade ...there were over 60 different types of cattle there ..it looked superb...they even had the baby heilan coos (highland cows) they were next to the Belted Galloways ,another Scottish breed ...can you see why they got the name belted?

        20230713_152519.jpg

also they had the hounds ...beagles bassets even bloodhounds ...Th bloodhounds can track a scent 12 days old ...

        20230713_145856.jpg

Teegee ...hiya ...get yourself a tin box and bimble the countryside!!you cant beat it ....hope all is well with you ...Im sure it will work out on your fb page ...

Hiya Wags ..I saw your comment about the AI... and it took my back to listening to the news on the way home .The actors in Hollywood are going on strike because of the use of AI i n the film industry ...on strike???? what part of reality do they live in ..its not exactly as if they are living hand to mouth .

        hiya ppqp...hope all is well.......

Lav how are you doing ? hope all is ok ...

I thought I heard an onion singing a Bee Gees song.
But it turned out it was just a chive talking

My mate’s wife asked him what would stop the floorboards from creaking.Apparently Slimming World was not the right answer.

Went to a fancy dress party as a jigsaw piece - I just didn’t fit in.

I love the Bee Gees and their 'chive talking', Mick. There is an excellent documentary about them on Netflix. I also just watched the George Michael doc there which also is very good.

Is your FB page something you would be willing to share here, TG? I like your take on things and would be interested in reading what you have to say.

So sorry you've got the smoke, PQ. I had always thought it sounded bad but did not realize how awful it can be until I experienced it (isn't that how life seems to work???). Hope the winds change for you.

I'm to the point now, Lav, of thinking Western medicine is great for crises (heart attacks, strokes, injuries) but is really weak when it comes to chronic issues. It sounds like several of us try to manage our own health.

Wags, I will let you know what I learn about AI. So far I have turned on Grammerly (which is not too impressed w/ my writing here :haha.

I love what an open-minded, curious, empathetic group this is. xx, NS

Geez, I thought my cat was dying today. He violently puked in several different locations, pooped on the floor, then curled up in a filled laundry basket in a dark corner of my closet -he has NEVER gone in my closet before! But, now he?s back to normal?

I didn?t know you had IBS, Lav. I sure hope your new program helps.

I?ve been a little Cookie Monster lately. Even baked chocolate chip cookies. So much for being off sugar and chocolate. Tired & craving.

I can see why you are hesitating to get involved in a new job, NS. You are plenty busy in your retired life, after all! Have to weigh the pros & cons I guess.

Mick, the MYBALZICH jersey is funny! And those cows really are banded.

This drought has been something else. At least we got a lot of rain here one day recently.

Well, I?m glad I know a little bit about who this Other Woman is who will be featuring prominently in the lives of my children & grandchildren. That was a painful romp through my past and my old hometown; obituaries, memories, etc.

Hope you had a good parade, Wags.
Forests are burning in Western Canada too, PQ?

Off we go into the weekend again!

              Hey gang,

Hot, humid but cloudy as if something is on the way soon, we shall see!
Went in for a routine BP check today & passed with flying colors. Now to get my gut into shape, haha. I’m liking this Nerva program so far. A 15 min hypnotherapy session does a lot to cool your tools I have the husband changing all 15 needles on my embroidery machine (I can’t get. Them right when I try) & he knows how to adjust the timing which fixes a lot of issues. He learned how to do all this after the first time I had to call a tech to come service this machine. It was an expensive ordeal & had to pay for his travel here from NJ. Hopefully I can get back to work tomorrow with a better behaving machine that’s not shredding threads & doing all kinds of goofy stuff haha.

Cyn, I have things packaged up for you & will go out in the AM. Good luck with your website/Facebook updates. These things can really be time consuming, I get that. Get your rest too!

PQ, sorry you got the smoky air, it’s rough I know. Hope yo have a great weekend.

Wags, my mom was a nurse too & she did her best to stay away from doctors too, Lol. When you work in healthcare you see SO much, some good & some really bad. Personally I blame my Polish & Scottish genetics for my stubborn thinking, haha. Funny, I had an interesting conversation with my NP this morning about how we’re usually pretty good at taking care of ourselves. If you can’t trust yourself who are you going to trust?? Hope you have a good weekend.

Mick, glad you made it home safely. I have to say after seeing so many cows around here yours are definitely much larger!!! Don’t know if that’s a good thing or not haha. Glad you two had a great time!

NS, you are so right about Western medicine. The big stuff they can handle well but the rest of the stuff doesn’t seem to interest them. We know ourselves better than anyone so we should be able to help ourselves quite a bit. These days we have Doc Google to help too haha!!

Slo, sorry Boyd had such a hard time. Our oldest cat has been sickish for a week doing the same stuff. We keep thinking this could be the end for her but who knows? I hope he rallies for you. Sorry you had painful old memories resurface, that can’t be easy. There’s no guarantee this other woman is going to be around forever, right? Hopefully she just disappears as quickly as she arrived. Keep your focus on you & your wonderful family.

Hello to Pie, Sam, Kensho & everyone popping in later.
              Have a nice night all!

              Lav

                Re: 9th July .

MAE ALL…took a while for me to remember it was Friday, not Monday! Taking Wed/Thu off sure confused me. LOL It was a nice quiet day and I got caught up with everything that came in while I was off. It was nice that the boss had taken today off, that’s the ticket, book my vacation days so I come back on a day that he’s off.

TG…thanks, hopefully it will translate into more $$$. I struggle posting on my business FB page. Seems every time I log in the platform has changed again. Just leave it alone! I think more people need to talk about death and grief, there are so many emotions and hearing others have gone through it helps. Good luck with getting your schedule sorted out.

Wags…smoke was much better today, thankfully because I actually had to be out in it. Hope your day was good.

Mick…always glad to hear you’re home safe and sound. I wouldn’t be able to drive through half the cities that you do. Glad you had a great time at the show, and it looks like the weather cooperated for you at times.

NS…yup, that’s how life seems to work. I would see images on the tv but until it actually arrived here and I experienced I couldn’t believe how awful it can be. The new software platform we’re thinking of migrating to uses AI. It’s actually been kind of fun typing in a couple of words like volunteer sign up/events/programs and seeing what it comes up with for a descriptive paragraph. It’s pretty good but still needs a little tweaking.

Slo…oh dear! What do you think that was all about with your cat! How scary. Any chance he got into something, ate something that was poisonous to him? You really were a Cookie Monster if you even baked chocolate chip cookies. Good job not turning to AL to ease that sweets craving. Sorry you had to go through the painful romp through your past. The western fires in BC are closer to my elevation so that’s why the smoke is coming in. At least the norther Alberta fires just headed East not South.

Lav…congrats on passing the BP checkup. Glad you’re liking the Nerva program. Nice job on training YB to change the embroidery needles, that’ll be a huge savings for you not to have to bring someone in from NJ.

My oldest son headed up north, younger son has headed to a BBQ so I think it’s breakfast for dinner tonight. Have a restful evening all…:smile:PPQP

                  Re: 9th July .

                  Mae all -

Just a quick hello before falling into bed... it has been a long one today, starting with taking my car in because it was doing strange things (like cutting the engine out when turning a corner, that was pretty scary...). Ended up just having the oil changed... the tech said that it was "bad gasoline", and that would totally screw up the fancy automatic engine computer... now I'm wondering why I thought a newer car would be good... my older ones never gave me any trouble like that!

In the past few days I've read about some violent crimes occurring in this city... one which was quite near-by... it was a domestic situation, but the guy went nuts, was chased in his car by the police, 100 mph on the freeway, and they ended up shooting the suspect dead in his car. That along with a recent road-rage incident that left a woman hospitalized... makes me long to go back to the upper NW countryside of our home in CT... I miss it so much. But anyway, that contributed to some really scary dreams all night, so I'm bushed.

Lav - wow that was fast!! I've messaged you a question on FB Messenger. Sorry to hear your machine was acting up! Glad to hear that YB could fix it.
SLO - hugs, and hope kitty feels better - that would be scary -
Wags - hope all is well
PPQ - sounds like things are humming along
NS - I'll write more later about my hopes and dreams for getting the word out about peace, grief, healing, death et al...
Mick - i LOVE Belted Galways... I first saw them in Maine, and fell in love. And then there was a herd close to where we lived in Connecticut... I would drive by just to visit them and say "Hellooo Lovelies!!!!" Glad that you are home safe...
Pi- hello, are you brushing up on your Moth talk?
Sorry if I skipped anyone... I'm headed for bed... wishing all well...

                    Re: 9th July .

                    MAE everyone!

Lav - great news about your BP!

SLO - oh gosh I hope your kitty is ok! Seems like several pets are having bad weeks, with your cat, Lav's cat and my pup all having the pukes. Here's hoping they all feel better again soon.

PPQ - breakfast for dinner is one of my faves, hope you enjoyed yours

NS - I agree with you about Western Medicine for sure - pretty solid with emergency med and surgeries, but not so great at preventing or managing chronic (just drugs) - the pharma and health insurance industries seems to call a lot of the shots.

Mick & TG - well now I'm curious and will have to learn about Belted Galways...

Pi, Kensho, Steady, and anyone else I missed - hope you have good days and nights!

Got calls from my dad's care home yesterday and today. One of the care staff went in to check on him and he was sobbing, absolutely distraught about how he'd ruined his life and lost his job and how he needed to "get back to CA" but also that my mom and I were coming to see him this weekend. My mom passed away 15+ years ago. When I talked with the care giver today there was absolutely no way I could drive out there to see him. I told her I've had success telling him "it sounds like there has just been a big misunderstanding, and I'm sure we can get things cleared up - that I would make some phone calls and see if we couldn't get everything straightened out." She liked that idea and agreed to give it a shot, meaning she'd tell him his daughter (me) was already on top of the situation and that I would visit him tomorrow with updates and solutions. In the past, he has usually forgotten all about these worries by the next day, but I will definitely go see him and I'll be prepared for things to be rough just in case. Sigh... dementia is so cruel

                      Re: 9th July .

Oh, Wags. I'm so sorry that your dad is confused and scared. I hope what the carer tells him gives him some peace and that you find him calm and content today.

Well, I've got another example of being frustrated with Western Med. Like you mentioned, Slo, lately I've been kind of careless with my diet so a few days ago decided I should probably check my blood sugar and make sure I'm still doing fine, which I have been for years since drastically reducing carb and sugar intake. Well... my fasting value in the morning was about 10 points higher than it used to be but not in the prediabetic/diabetic range so I know no doctor would consider it a problem. BUT -- after eating a couple higher carb meals, my values were well into the diabetic range and came down very slowly. So, I'm getting back on my diet wagon and might take some berberine which has some blood sugar lowering activity. Since doctors only test fasting blood sugar, I wouldn't even be identified as having a problem in a standard test and yet I clearly do.

I'm glad your BP checkup was a good one, Lav!

I bet it was nice to have your house to yourself for an evening, PQ.

TG, when we bought a van a couple years ago with all the bells and whistles, the conversation we had with the woman trying to sell us the Protection Policy made me almost want to back out. So many (expensive!) things could go wrong! We went ahead and I love all the bells and whistles but it is disconcerting to essentially be driving a computer around given that we all know how many things can go wrong w/ a computer!!

                      Have a good weekend, everyone!

mae all...how are we doing then? hope everyone is good ...at present we are in the middle of a storm,it is belting down...its still summer tho ...the rain is warm ...

hiya Wags ,sorry to hear about your dad ,hope you get the situation resolved ...I agree with you ...dementia is so cruel..it takes many formats ,Julies dad keeps going back to his days in the navy ,wishing he was there.you take care mate ,and hope the weekend goes ok for you .

hiya ppqp..you arent the only one that gets it wrong ...I thought yesterday was Sunday ,I enjoy the driving ...Julie thinks Im nuts ..I like the challenge of those wee gaps to get through .how are you today then?phone off the hook to work I take it?good moving coming back when the gaffer isnt there..have a decent weekend .

hiya teegee.hows the car doing? hope it is cured ..yep nowadays you dont need to be a mechanic and be good on the spanners ...you need to be hot on computers .

The unique appearance of Belted Galloway cattle inspires many questions about their origins. With black, red or dun color sandwiched about a white middle, they are familiarly known as 'Belties' among breeders of the animals. Though references to 'sheeted' cattle occur in literature and art as early as the 11th Century, the Belted Galloway's first recorded history indicates that they developed during the 16th Century in the former Galloway district of Scotland.they were first exported in the 1800s to Canada ,..They are definitely bonny cattle.hope you get a better sleep tonight minus the dreams .

hiya Ns ...how are you doing? hiya Slo how are you doing today then? hows the cat doing ? hope all is well.In respect of the cookie monster ..likewise ...but now I need to lose it so Im on a no sweets crisps bread chocolate etc diet

hiya Lav ,how are you doing ? hope all is well ...chucking it down here ,well done on the BP ...I go for all that drama next couple of weeks .I would agree ..re the stubborness ..the Jocks and the Poles are very similar in nature ....in fact Scots are renowned for getting on with folk but they definitely do with Polish ..I was going to do some work in the garden but thats a non starter...started scraping back the worktops ...have a good weekend .

hiya sf pie sam Kensho etc ,hope all is well.

I was woken up last night at 2am by the sound of three Man Utd fans playing football with a hedgehog! I was fuming! I was just about to call the rspca when the hedgehog went 1- nil up!

                          Re: 9th July .

                          Good evening all,

Hot & sunny & supremely humid still. They keep telling us to expect storms but we’ve had none, ugh.
I even brought the deck kitten inside because the mama cat leaves him/her alone for long periods of time & I don’t want the poor thing getting soaked or scared. I need to up my efforts to find this one a permanent home. Went out to the stores to gather necessities this morning & have been inside ever since due to the heat.

PQ, sounds like you had some good quality time to yourself. That’s the best, honestly! Glad you air has cleared from the smoke. Hope your weekend is good.

Cyn, we never seem to be too far away from violent crime these days. The whole country is in a sad state these days unfortunately. I don’t think any place is 100% safe anymore. I will be getting that package out Monday by the way you take good care & get some good rest. The Nerva program is marvelous so far, I think I’ll be getting a lot out of it overall. I have had pretty good luck with the computers on my car but I know they can be a pain when they act up. I hope yours gets sorted out.

Wags, sorry to hear your Dad had a bad day. I know they are bound to happen but they are certainly hard to witness. I know I mentioned it before but a good Psych consult would be helpful. They order meds to help eliminate or reduce these episodes. I’ve seen many elderly patients respond well to antipsychotics. Just a thought anyway

NS, it’s obvious that we are what we eat, right? I know with myself if I wander too far from the list of acceptable foods for my IBS I really have problems. Same goes for your blood sugars. Our body’s abilities to process what we eat changes so much as we age too, it’ stough. Good luck getting yourself back on track!!

Mick, send that rain over anytime, haha! I wish we could get a good storm to clear out all this ridiculous humidity but it just doesn’t seem to happy anymore. Global warming issue??
Yeah, I’m happy I finally got the BP back on track. Seeing the cardiologist almost 2 years ago really messed thing up, haha! I work better with the advanced practice nurses than i do with the docs - go figure haha! Hope your Sunday is drier so you can do some outside stuff
I remember people taking those gross plastic urinals home from the hospital - gag

Slo, hope your day was good!

Hello to Pie, Sam, Kensho & everyone.
                          Have a nice night all!

                            Re: 9th July .

My morning routine is to sit out on the patio enjoying coffee and cigs while scrolling through my phone. I check email, messages, read the news, Facebook, Nextdoor, MWO, and various other sites of interest. MWO has never been phone friendly, but lately it will only allow me to view one post at a time. It's maddening, so I've pulled out my laptop.

Lav, I think so smart of you to give hypnotherapy a try. I too, fall in the camp that's not so quick to sign up for medical intervention. Doctors don't have magic to offer. Their prescriptions and procedures ALL have downsides, and none are guaranteed to work. Please do let us know how it goes.

NS, your suggestion of yogurt, blueberries, and pecans sounded delish! I haven't tried freezing it, but have been enjoying the combo for breakfast.

TG, the chance of me getting up on a stage to tell a personal story to strangers, is the same as our forecasted rain chances for the next 7 days. Zero, zip, nada. I do love listening to others' stories though. Actually The Moth radio hour has higher quality stories because only the best ones are selected for broadcast, whereas at a live event, you get what you get.

Wags, how was the Pride parade?

Slo, I got to stalking Facebook pages while working in real estate, and was processing rental applications. People aren't necessarily truthful on those apps. Plus, you can tell a lot about what a person values by seeing what's posted on their page.

PQ, glad you're been taking some days off. You sound really good.

Mick, do your rabbits act happy to see you when you pick them up?

Spent a few hours today working a jigsaw puzzle, and listening to Annie Grace stuff. She's developed one heck of an extensive library, which I can access as part of the Live Naked program.

MAE ALL...did pop out to get some groceries today but the smoke was too much. Made 2 stops and headed home. Ended up cooking a pot roast in the crock pot as I didn't want to heat up the house. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. I've been staying off the computer as I found myself checking into work emails! Sounds like everyone is doing ok and will check in again tomorrow. Have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

                                MAE all,

Really hard day visiting my dad, and it's pretty late here now so I'm just going to check in sober and call it a night. Tomorrow (Sunday) is the Pride Parade. I'll be back tomorrow eve and will reply to individuals and also update you more fully.
