    Re: 23rd July ,

I initially thought Lav meant the cat has lots of friends too, Mick! Like, he’s out tom-catting every night!
I like how your new garden will make it easier to plant things!
Menorca, here you come! That should be a very enjoyable trip!

What a bind with the mold problem, TG. Management will want the least costly solution, not the real and safest solution. I wish you could talk to the top man rather than the nasty people under him.

      Re: 23rd July ,

Congratulations on 7 continuous years in this “lifestyle”, Wags! These are our forever quits.
I am joining Kensho in being over the 5-year mark. It does feel good to have this monkey off our backs!

PQ, how great to have a spontaneous lake day on a hot day in Canada, and to have a weekend spent catching up with some family members.

What did I get out of the seminar, Wags? Well, I guess I liked the understanding that life is both: I will call it both bitter AND sweet. And people are both…everything is both in this world of duality. And there is “good” in the “bad” and “bad” in the “good”…so don’t go for one-sided “only happiness”. And don’t disown parts.

        Re: 23rd July ,

        Good evening friends,

Crazy day of thunder & at least 3 quick rain showers & of course now the sun is out
Sorry if I confused people, my daughter is the one with a large friend network, not the cat haha!!! I’m really liking this kitten, she’s very sweet & nothing like the bully I’ve been housing all these months. We’ll see what happens!

PQ, the heat dome is reaching all the way up to you as well. Ugh, we are going to be near 100 degrees later this week, it’s absolutely gross. Glad yo enjoyed your weekend away, stay cool.

Cyn, how I wish I could have been with you walking into the management office. I don’t let anyone blatantly take advantage of me like that. You can ask the guy at the VW dealer, I freaked out on him when he told me our brand new VW was stalling because we put dirty gas in it & the entire gas tank needed to be replaced!! It was 1974 while we were in the oil crisis if you remember. He had a heavy German accent & I heard myself telling him in German exactly what I thought of him thanks to my 3 years of German class in high school, LOL. They fixed the problem & I didn’t have to pay for a thing!!! I hope you get the respect you deserve!

Wags, we are all happy for you & proud of your accomplishments! Kicking AL aside isn’t always easy but it’s the right thing to do

Mick, are you sure you want to go on vacation with all that wildlife excitement going on in your backyard? You could be selling tickets to a show like that My machine is running fine, just need to get squared away with the new software. It will take a while but i’ll get there.

NS, your new screened porch will be lovely in the Fall when it’s cooler I’m sure.
I can’t believe how hot our planet is now, I worry about our kids & grandkids. We have to do something about it now!!!!!
Sorry your friend’s family is dealing with the effects of AL. It is a family disease.

Slo, court mandated rehab sounds good IF the individual is willing to follow through. My niece has been to rehab I think 3X for drugs, one time she was kicked out I think they found her using. She has recently completed 4 months & is trying to get custody of her kids back. I really doubt she is going to meet the demands of the court (getting a job & a place to live by August). It’s all very sad.

Hello to Pie, Sam, Kensho & anyone else stopping by later.

        Have a great night everyone!
        Lav

          Re: 23rd July ,

MAE ALL...well, that was a busy day. Had 60 emails to go through and didn't quite make it, gotta do the customer service when people come a knocking. LOL

TG...I wonder if the head man knows how the front line office workers are. It might not hurt to point some things out to him. Hope you were able to sort things out.

Wags...:yay: CONGRATS ON 7 YEARS :yay:...MWO was a life saver for me too.

Mick...sorry about your post but glad you put the pics up anyways. The garden plan looks great. Remind me again when you're heading to Menorca and how long you gone for?

NS...well it usually never got this hot, I blame it on climate change. We used to have lovely springs and long falls but now it seems we go from summer to winter. And the cold temps are colder than they used to get. You might be right about it being too hot for the screened porch tomorrow but I'm sure you'll get lots of use out of it in the fall.

Slo...it was nice to meet up with my SIL. She's my ex's brothers wife, a now retired nurse and a great support while I was going through all my ex's crazy manic/depressive episodes. Not sure what seminar you attended but I like you're comment understanding that life is both. Isn't that the truth.

Lav...we broke a record yesterday at 95.18F, couldn't imagine what 100 feels like. Our heatwave broke and it was only 77 today with a nice breeze. It can do what it wants now that I'm back at work. Did manage to score another long weekend Aug 4-8. Now I have to schedule my annual check up to renew my prescriptions before Oct, get blood work done for my annual rheumatologist appointment in Sep and see my ophthalmologist as I need to deal with cataracts in both eyes before January when I have to renew my drivers license. August will be over and done before I know it.

Shout out to the rest of the gang. Time to relax and it'll be an easy dinner, just going to boil up some perogies. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

            Mae all,
Wags, super congrats on 7 years! Wonderful! Mick, I wondered the same thing as Lav… what a beautiful show of wildlife! Good luck getting all ready for your trip. SLO, congrats on your AF years; so sorry more of your family didn’t follow your lead. Now there is such evidence about how AL changes the brain… I know you know this stuff… but it does help explain how people get so far down the tunnel… plus the extraordinary influence the AL industry has, and our culture’s acceptance of it all… uuugh. So grateful that I am free - I celebrate every day…

Lav, best of luck with the software! NS, hoping you get some cooling; your dinner party sounds nice. PPQ, good to hear that you are heading into a cooling phase… here in the Midwest we are looking at 102 degrees F in the coming days!

So… I “bailed” on the bathroom ceiling fight. Honestly, I‘m a little depressed at the moment, and just not up for a fight. I was not having any reaction when I opened up the plastic I had covering it… so I’m hoping all will be well… the “paint contractor” turned out to be a worker who spoke no English… one of the workers that was here for months last fall “upgrading” the residence. But I have worked in the trades, so I know when someone’s doing a good job, and he did a good job. He squirted some kind of spray up into the area, hopefully it will do the trick. Honestly, I don’t care anymore, I just want my bathroom back. He’ll sand and finish paint tomorrow. (I’m not here , so I’ll tape my BR door for dust … then call it done. ) Lav, you need to send me some Polish genes! If my dear husband were alive, he would have charmed them into doing what he wanted… anyway, just a first-world problem, I decided in the end.. I’m grateful to have plumbing, and electricity for fans and air conditioning.
Will sign off with that thought.! Wishing all well…
            TG

MAE all, super busy work day for me so I'm gonna keep this short and call it a night. Tomorrow is a much easier day, and I plan to start the morning with reading back and catching up with you all. Hope safe nights and days find each and every one of you!

hiya Lav ...Wie gehts?Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch auch. Now that I look at it I see why.

My doctor told me that jogging could add years to my life. He was right.
I feel ten years older already.

The new milk tray man who is from Liverpool, has been sacked after only one day on the job. He delivered the chocolates OK, but left with the laptop, TV, and DVD and radio!

I sexually identify as a microwave meal! I?m ready in 3 minutes and look nothing like my pictures!

The morning of my wife's birthday I handed her her first gift. As she unwrapped it she said, "It's a fcking wand! What do I want with a wand?" "It's not just any wand," I replied, "It's a magic wand!" "Really?" she said. "What does it do?" "Why don't you give it shake," I told her, "and don't forget to say the magic words." "Okay," she said shaking the wand. "Abracadabra!" "Fck me, love!" I said, peering down the side of the bed. "You're not going to believe this." "What is it?" she asked all excitedly. I said, "You've just made all your other presents disappear!"

                  Re: 23rd July ,

Mick, I guess the upside of a 4:30 am airport run is that traffic will be light. I read that, "in Menorca, nature and tranquility are the main attractions." Methinks you chose well!

TG, way to go picking your battles! Sounds like your ceiling woes have been adequately resolved, and you avoided an unpleasant confrontation.

Lav, I'm also concerned that we're in for bigger trouble with extreme weather. At least the politicians are largely predictable, but mother nature is a wild card, and she seems in a bad mood.

PQ, driver license renewal for me too in 2024. The one with mandatory vision test. Not looking forward to that at all.

Hearty congrats to Wags and Slo on the occasions of their soberversaries!!

I'm approaching the 3 month mark, and feel as though Ive hit my stride. Greatly enjoying the self-paced Live Naked AF series. Each month a new module is unlocked, and next up is Feel Better Now! focused on managing emotions. For fun I'm watching The Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge on HGTV. Going by the shade of nail polish I selected yesterday, I've been bitten by the pink bug! It's so freeing to be able to confess that here.

                    Re: 23rd July ,

                    Greetings everyone,

Sunny & hot here, tomorrow will be even hotter. Not like we get a choice Lol

Pie, we are going to have to figure out how to survive in this climate but I haven’t come up with any genius ideas yet ;(
My daughter & granddaughter really enjoyed the Barbie movie this past weekend. Guess I’ll be seeing more pink on them too.

Mick, I love the Bluetooth cordless hose haha!!! I wouldn’t mind having one of those
I studied all that German for 3 years but never thought I would have a chance to actually use it, Lol. I really surprised myself when I opened my mouth & it just came flying out!! I guess Julie wouldn’t like it here, we have field mice galore. But now that’s there’s cats hanging around outside I haven’t seen many lately. How are the temps in Menorca? Hope it’s not too hot! Sorry about the early flight, geez!

Wags, hope you got some rest & had a good day.

Cyn, glad to hear the ceiling job was addressed. Hopefully the problem has been resolved once & for all!
Our ‘feel like’ temp tomorrow is supposed to be 103, ugh. Keep yourself hydrated & cool enough.

PQ, sounds like you have a busy schedule ahead, good luck with it all.
Glad you got a break in the heat! I really really can’t stand this excessive heat, makes me feel like a slug.

Hello to Slo, Kensho, Sam , NS & anyone else popping in tonight!

                    Have a nice night all.

                      Re: 23rd July ,

MAE ALL…still working through my emails, taking them one at a time. If someone calls, I just say you’re next on the list and do that request next.

TG…it’s probably just as well you bailed yesterday. Hope your mood has improved. Hopefully what they did does the trick, at least you felt he did a good job. Not sure what your plans were for today but hope you had a good day.

Wags…I know exactly how you feel, hope you got some rest. Thanks for checking in, I know how Lav worries. LOL

Mick…haha, good think you didn’t tell Julie about the mouse. Feels like I never had a break from work except for all the catch up I’m doing. Like Pi says, at least the traffic should be good for you when you head out. Your post just reminded me I didn’t book my blood work. They have privatized the labs in Alberta and apparently, they’re booking 2 months out or you go and sit for hours for a walk in. We shall see. Your Friday is tomorrow so have a safe trip.

Pi…I can’t believe you’re approaching 3 months; I remember reading your first come back post and thought there she is. Feels like yesterday. LOL Well done you and I’m glad you found Live Naked AF, it seems to really be working for you. The eye exam is what worries me too, either I get the cataract surgery or new glasses in the interim. There was a business that came into the centre wanting to post their business, Optometrist and senior exams are free. I called him on that as the business near me charges $30 on top of what is covered by the provincial insurance. He said we don’t, if you’re over 65 you’re fully covered. He’s got a new client. LOL

Lav…I feel for you in that heat, won’t tell you what my forecast is for the next few days. I think it’s great that your German automatically came through, issue dealt with! Yes, things have revved up at work. Always like that when we transition into the next fiscal year. The accountant told me today that my event rental revenue is about 12K more than what had been forecast in the budget. Yet another reason to expect a nice raise.

Perogies last night and cabbage rolls tonight. One of these days I’ll put them both together. LOL Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all….:smile:PPQP

                        Re: 23rd July ,

                        Mae all,

Lovely to read how all are...

Good luck packing, Mick, I've always found that the least interesting part of a journey!

Lav, I hear ya - it's 8 PM here and still 93 degrees... we apparently are looking at the same heat index for the next few days as Tucson, Arizona. So, keeping the fans going and the A/C up around 80... actually feels wonderful after being outside!

Pi - great to hear from you, and so glad that you are still getting a lot from Annie Grace's materials - I really love her work. Hope you can stay cool-ish in the next days...

SLO - hope things are well and all the kids are good -

Wags - here's hoping you get some good "down-time" soon -

PPQ - you always have a big To-Do- list! Congrats on all the revenue gains - you did it!

Yes, I just let the whole ceiling thing go, and I felt better for it. Can't control everything, especially in apartments. A sweet Ukranian guy showed up to do the sanding and painting this morning - we talked a bit - his sister is still in Ukraine... a reminder of how tough things really could be. Anyway, he did an excellent job - I can't even see where the ceiling hole was! So, onward.
Lav, I found a little (empty) pill-pocket in a drawer, which said 5-HTP. I don't know if that was anything that we talked about in those years on the thread when we did more of health info exchanges. But anyway, I looked it up to refresh my memory about it, bought some, and (hopefully) am feeling a good result. It is a precursor to, or builder of, serotonin... so I hope to get some relief from the cloud I've been living under. Even with the near-100 temps today I was able to work on the Homeless Food delivery - we did hundreds of lunches for those poor souls that are out in this heat (though apparently the city is arranging some safe and cool spaces for them). I am so privileged to have the resources that I have...

Hoping all are well this evening, and can stay cool -
                        TG

I see what you’re saying, TG; that the brain changes occurring from all the alcohol abuse causes people to get so far down the tunnel, and then unable to get out because of the brain changes!
It’s a fight that you’re probably not going to win anyways. Hopefully drying the area and now sealing with paint will contain the problem. You are smart to know that the dust that will be generated needs to be contained in the bathroom by sealing it in!

You finally have a chance to get through all the emails, PQ. No wonder you’re busy again if the fiscal year ended. I guess you’re having cataract surgery soon.
Pierogies & cabbage rolls would go well together!

You must’ve had a very good high school German language program if you could speak it spontaneously, Lav! It usually takes some immersion, like Mick had.

The Barbie Movie is fantastic!! Young Daughter invited me to go with her yesterday! I loved it! Seriously, go see it if you have any Barbie background. It’s funny and nostalgic and has good messages.

Had a busy and pleasant day with the grandchildren today. Oh, I love squeezing that little Cooper! Love watching Beckett & Mabel grow and change too. So cute! I switched my day from Tuesday to Wednesday now.

Hi to Wags, NS, and anyone stopping in.

MAE all - I didn't have as easy a day as expected due to a dear neighbor falling and needing help. Of course there's no way my wife and I wouldn't jump right in and assist however we possibly could. We just got home a little while ago and need to eat a later dinner so I'm going to keep this short again. There's a light at the end of the "busy work schedule" tunnel - the next test is Aug 11 & 12 and I've blocked out vacation days for Aug 13-26ish. I can do it!

Take care everyone and I'll check in again tomorrow.

mae all ,how are we doing today then? hope all is well.pouring down with rain here ...I certainly timed it right ding the garden.Today is a pretty busty day ,got to take the rabbits down to their hotel this morning ,go and see Julies dad, finish all those last bits of packing ,clean the rabbit hutch, and of course ....clean the house ....now for me I have never got my head round that..our house is most of the time clean and tidy ,certainly not dirty ...and yet every time we go away,it needs that special clean..why?did you ever do that?Ive asked a couple of folk if they do that..and yes ...the reason behind it is ...if by some chance you dont come back ie crash death etc .and someone has to go in the house its clean..its kind of like that other old one as well...always wear clean underwear when you go out ..just in case you get run over or have an accident and they have to take you to hospital...Anyone got any more ?

                                Re: 23rd July ,

                                Have a good trip, Mick!

Porch party went well last night- people were troopers and we were outside despite the high temps. There was a breeze and there were fans going so it was fine. The porch was christened when our dog made it on to the porch and in her enthusiasm knocked over a small table, breaking a glass of wine (not mine :wink.

We caved and turned on the AC yesterday, Lav. Definitely made for better sleeping. It is hard to imagine how people are coping in areas where they lose electricity because of the effects of the extremely high heat. In one country even the underground cables were wrecked.

TG, I take tryptophan, which is a precursor of 5-HTP. I'm not sure whether it is a placebo effect but I think it is calming.

PQ, unread emails are a huge stress for me. I don't let my phone tell me how many are awaiting me with those little notifications! I admire your 'one foot in front of the other' approach.

Do you spend one day a week with your daughters 3 children, Slo? I like having scheduled time (but I prefer 1 at a time if possible!).

Wags, that is a nice long time you're planning to take off. I hope it works out.

Congratulations on 3 months, Pie. Bright pink nails sound celebratory

I assume some of you play Wordle. There is another fun one from the NYTimes now: Connections. I do both of them in bed before starting the day.
Group words that share a common thread. A new puzzle is available each day.
