Re: 13th August.

MAE ALL...having my son chauffer me has it's perks. He got off early today so I told the boss I'd just run him home and come back. He said you should just take off early too. LOL

NS...enjoy the several days of just the 2 of you after this weekend. You'll need the time to recuperate. LOL

Mick...I hope the dentist trip was just a checkup and no major work had to be done. The salmon and asparagus was great, haven't had that in a long time. Looks like son got the car that wouldn't start is now working. He came in yesterday carrying something and said he just needs to get a new one of these, whatever it is. Other son that car is similar to my last Ford Focus so things sound positive but I'm not holding my breath. LOL

Lav...yes, it was a nice surprise. She does seem to have a different attitude, hope she can keep it up. They are both getting ready for the fall semester, which starts 2 weeks from today, so we shall see. It's been hot and tomorrow we're hitting a record at 98F with a quick turn around Friday as the high is only going to be 55F. Geeze, I may have to dig out my parka. If I come across any designs for your Maui Fire Relief I'll send them onto you.

Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

Re: 13th August.

Mae all -
Sorry to be away? was I away? I swear my cognition is slowing day by day. Fortunately i was able to get an appointment with my medical doc for tomorrow? I?ve just finished a list of things to ask her about.
At least I finally got myself organized to call and make the appointment!
I?m enjoying not having my elder to care for? I?m afraid it will be somewhat hard to go back, though of course I will, and it will be fine.
Today was the day when I go downtown to do the homeless meals? we were short-staffed in every area, so it was a little crazy , but we managed. I noticed that I got very winded walking up a slight hill 1blockbto catch the bus? took my pulse so I would have some evidence to talk to the doc about.
Did I say that my jaw got completely out of whack last week? I am working on stretching exercises, etc. that?s helping, thank goodness.
Best of luck on the car, PPQ. Mick, sounds like garden life and life-firms are interesting. sLO, hopefully you won?t need any post-anything medical; sending healing thoughts. Lav, we got 1 day off of hot and humid today, now back to the drawing board. It is going to be over 100 degrees here this week? good luck to you too!
Pie, hope you are hanging in and getting through this heat?
Sending prayers and $support to those in the Islands who are facing such devastation? truly ghastly?

I hope all are well - I am constant in AF-ness, thank goodness? I can?t imagine how truly confused I would be othereise!!
Wishing all well -
TG

Re: 13th August.

MAE to the gang!

Today was my day up with the three grandchildren with D1. I arranged for us to drive to the next city over from there and go to the zoo with my brother and sis-in-law -since I’m going up on Wednesdays now, and I know that’s my brother’s day off of work. That was fun! The kids really liked the zoo! Especially Beckett, and Cooper liked being outdoors and with others. Mabel was a little under-napped.

My knee did pretty well through the zoo, AND I was able to walk with my neighbors tonight! Either it’s the new brace I got in the mail yesterday, or doubling up on the pain gel today…OR something is healing in there!! That would be exciting.

Young daughter & her boyfriend stopped by D1’s on their way home from camping, and she mentioned that she is driving to visit D3 tomorrow through Sunday -so I inserted myself and got myself invited along! Just a few hoops to jump through with the cat: take him to a walk-in clinic tomorrow morning for a vaccination, then drive him to the “cat hotel” to board him. And wouldn’t you know that same dumb belly pan or chassis or engine guard or whatever paper-like thing-y on the bottom of my car that I just got replaced is dragging again on the ground as of tonight. Daughter might have to drive her car.

Re: 13th August.

We can understand you, TG? (Haha)
Maybe you could visit your elder just once a day, and another caregiver(s) can be arranged for the other visit each day.

PQ, maybe the car situation will work out after all! But, like you say: that’s their deal, and not yours. Meanwhile, enjoy the perks of being chauffeured!

NS! Sounds like fun family time! And some downtime is coming too.

Lav, I sleuthed enough to discover that ex-HB’s gf has her own family: a daughter & her HB with a toddler son, and a son & his wife with a baby daughter -and she’s pretty into them, so I don’t think she’s especially honing in on my family. It seems like she is somewhat recently divorced. Actually, without having met her, but somehow allowed pretty much access to her Facebook page, even though I’m not even on that site: she seems like someone I would like.

That’s so devastating about Maui. I was blessed to be in Lahaina once. I guess your symbol would have palm trees in it?

Re: 13th August.

Good evening friends,

Sunny & only 86 degrees today so not as bad as it has been
It always seems to get real hot again before the kids go back to school at the end of the month but at least they have AC these days.

Mick, when we built this house we did the same thing - found a nice piece of oak for the mantle. Still looks good 20 years later.
I’m not sure what all I’ve done all day but I have been busy, haha! I need to spend a little time tonight searching for a Maui design I can use.

NS, thanks, yep those Ukraine designs I used last year were actually digitized by a girl in Ukraine. I found her designs on Etsy. I’ll keep you informed.

Slo, I hope. Your car is OK, seems like a weird thing happening underneath. I don’t know much about cars, just need them to work when I need to go somewhere. The last time I changed a tire was in Driver’s Ed class in high school Lol.
Sounds like you have found some knee comfort & that’s great. I hope it lasts for you. I used to love taking the grandkids to the zoo, fun times. Hope your weekend goes well.

Cyn, is there any possibility that Covid turned on an attention deficit situation? That would be worth looking into for sure. My daughter is 46, never had trouble as a kid but as an adult she feels something is off. She was tested & diagnosed earlier this year & is now medicated. Honestly, I don’t know where my head is half the time so it’s not just you. I hope you find some answers soon

PQ, yay for the early departure from work, haha! That’s something you never refuse. I hope everyone keeps their cool at work so the start of the new school year is a positive one. I sometimes wish I had a driver haha! I live where there’s nothing so I have to drive everywhere!!

Hello to the rest of the gang & wishing everyone a nice night!

Re: 13th August.

MAE ALL…it could have been a lot hotter out today but smoke from BC shielded a lot of the sun. We still hit about 34C/93F. It was a nice quiet day, asst. director went on field trip, accountant off, boss busy in his office. Got lots of those little jobs completed and worked on the craft sale. The car situation seems to be working itself out. Son put the one that had dodgy brakes on a selling website at 8am and had 5 calls by 10am. He sold it. LOL He’s fixed the other car that wouldn’t start, it’s a ford focus, and other son is going to register and insure it. He said he would also use it to get to work. YAY, I get my car back soon.

TG…good job on getting an appointment with your doc tomorrow and well done getting a list of questions. I must confess I still haven’t booked my annual appointment yet. After reading your post I’ll be doing it first thing in the morning. I’m glad you’re getting a break from your elder, you really need to address things there. You take care of yourself.

Slo…sounds like a good day with the zoo visit and your knee held up for you. Good job on getting an invite to D3’s tomorrow. LOL Lot of organizing to do and now you have to deal with a car problem that you just had fixed. Geeze!

Mick…the earlier post did appear…glad the dentist trip went ok. Oh my 93F in the greenhouse, unheard of in your part of the world. And the projects continue, looking forward to seeing the new oak mantelpiece. Things are going ok in the office and luckily there is no icy atmosphere. Maybe they’ve decided to move forward in a positive way. The city the north is Yellowknife. They are evacuating 20 thousand people from fire. I am so grateful to be living where I do. Calgary is expected to take in about 5 thousand people today.

Lav…glad you got a bit of a break weatherwise today. The cold front is coming down from the north, apparently, it’s causing issues in BC right now with wild winds. Still predicting a high of 14C/57F tomorrow, we shall see. It does seem like everyone is keeping their cool at work, I can feel a difference in the stress vibe.

NS…enjoy the gang this weekend keeping in my it will soon be just the two of you.

Pi….thinking of you and hoping your coping ok with the weather.

It’s take out tonight, son has just headed out to pick something up. Boss is off tomorrow so it’ll be another quiet day for the end of the week. Have a good night all…:smile:PPQP

Re: 13th August.

Mae all - quick post for tonight. Sorry not to reply to all -
Doctor visit went very well - she?s an energetic young-ish woman doc who really listens? she proceeded right away to order a battery of tests, since I have everything from potential lung and heart issues to brain fog and fatigue. Did an EKG right in the room and blood work at the facility. MRI will be in a few weeks, and soon stress test because of my heart rate skyrocketing at times. So, wow, what a shock- to be heard - and then have action taken right away. She?s looking into how I can possibly use a new rehab center that is Long COVID focused.
So, a really good start to at least understand what is going on?
I hope all are well tonight, and am wishing you all a bit of rest (Mick!) and coolness.
Cheers all,
Cindy

Oh, and PS, by ?young? doc I mean mid-40s? she?s had a lot of experience? was a doc in South Dakota for 15 years where she did everything from birthing babies to End of life? so she?s balanced and forthright.
(Just didn?t want you thinking I had a 25?year-old ordering tests because she?s clueless! ) 👍

as for the fireplace and mantle ,ermmmm it was going to be done when I came back ,this morning I cut the wall brackets with a whizzer at 7 am ....the screws were solid in the wall, the top mantle unscrewed and the new mantle will fit a treat ..Ive also got another mantle which needs some work but is really smart ..or it will be when I've lime washed sanded and w waxed it.Just been down this morning and ordered a new 3 piece suite ...the one we have has seen a good few years .The new one has a 3 seat sofa with individual electric recliners ..luxury .just started raining...obviously the start of the heatwave ..

hiya ppqp ,well done for son selling car ,and you are on the road to getting your own back ...Glad the office is ok ,nothing worse than living in a fridge!!So you are still getting the smoke from Bc ? is that a continuation of the fires?you got any plans for the weekend ?apart from Phone switch off ? whatever you do have a good one ...

hi Lav ,how are you doing today then? hope all is good with you ..Interestingly ,wood went out of fashion for a while ,and now its coming back ,Love messing about with wood ,its just so natural.,and when its waxed up it looks great .Did you find a design ?hope so hope you have a good weekend .

Re: 13th August.

Got to daughter & son-in-law’s house last night. It took well over 7 hours of driving, as we hit Chicago traffic at the wrong time of day, and encountered a lot of road construction along the way.
I slept 8 hours straight last night! Finally! I sleep well at their house.
Now D4 is taking D3 in to get LASIK surgery on her eyes (!), Andy is at daycare, and son-IL is at work in his home office.

When my car’s belly pan was replaced earlier this year, it turns out they went cheap and replaced just the pan, and screwed the new one on with the old, worn-out screws. Grrr. So those old screws gave way this time. I didn’t call ahead to the Ford dealership service department (they would give me an appointment for a month out!); just went there bright & early yesterday morning and sought out -not just anyone-but my Nice Guy there. He got it fixed for me.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: 13th August.

Often when you post here, especially Mick and Lav, at the times that you post; I can see that you posted, but I can’t read your posts until later in the day. It’s frustrating. Then I don’t bother to post either, until the posts before mine turn up in the thread.

TG, such good news that you found a competent, respectful doctor. A thorough work-up can at least rule things out, and perhaps point out deficiencies.

PQ, thankfully the big blow-up at work never happened, and the co-workers seem to be being mature, and you had a quiet day to get a lot of work done.

Lav, I hope the perfect design presents itself for Maui relief. Fire mixed with palm trees sounds so sad.

Mick, what a big project! I look forward to seeing the results with the new mantle.
I agree, Mick, that I think both COVID and the vaccines they foisted on us are causing/worsening a lot of people’s health woes. I wish I could’ve avoided getting COVID, but, I ended up getting directly infected by one of those baby grandchildren. Thankfully I had a fairly mild case, and, I’m so grateful that I was able to avoid all the dumb vaccines!

Hope you’re having a wonderful vacation, NS! And wagmor should be reappearing soon!
