      Re: 3rd September

      Good evening friends,

The heatwave continues, the high was > 92 degrees today. We survived another roundtrip back to the hospital to see the new primary for YB. I suggested a change in his BP med due to continued swelling of both lower legs, the doc said OK & changed it just like that haha! He’s been on amlodipine for years, the same med that made my feet swell so badly a while back, geez that’s awful stuff. We drove thru the search area for that escaped convict again, police vehicles were everywhere & he still hasn’t been captured yet.

Cyn, glad to see your report. Give yourself some time to adjust to your new job, you will. It’s good to be busy & not just standing around at work, that’s awful. Maybe your brain can ‘vacation’ a little while you’re doing this job. I can only do so much mental stuff then need to rest my wits while I vacuum or something like that. I think it’s a good idea to work with the cardiologist though, just to be safe.

Slo, there’s no way I would go to that cabin & take on all that housework. I would leave it to the slobs, let them deal with the mess.
Glad your knee has improved, that’s great news! Hope your day went well with the 3 littles.

NS, good to see you too. I think there’s a good chance our thread will get back to normal at some point. The Admins seem to be aware of what’s going on.
You know you can text me anytime you want. Take care

Mick, thak you again for all the lovely pics. These are definitely things i will never see in my lifetime so I appreciate your sharing
I’ve never been on a yacht or a cruise ship so these pics are great. Thanks again! Keep enjoying your trip!

PQ, I may have missed your latest post but I hope all is well with you & I still want to trade temps, haha!!
I hope everyone is behaving at work this week

Hello to Pie, Sam & anyone else stopping by tonight.
      Have a nice night all!

        Mae all -
Lav, glad that there?s some hope for YB to get a break. So sorry you had to go through the search area again. Yes, I love being busy, and all of this is right up my alley? OCD linear-sequential! 😉

SLO - hoping all went well with the littles? (and my feelings are ditto what Lav said , about you doing all that cleaning! 🤨 )
Glad the knee cream is working..,

Mick, those pics were tremendous! I had to laugh when I realized that I was one pic off of the ?names? of the rooms? I thought the last one (of the crew?s quarters) was Charles and Diana?s honeymoon Suite ! 😉 ditto Lav - so great to see the pics? made me feel that I was watching The Queen again..,

Hoping all are well. Heading into 3days in a row of work? we?ll see how I do!

        Cheers all -
        TG

          Re: 3rd September

MAE everyone - I've been having some trouble getting onto this site over the past few days and unable to post Now I see I've got a few days and several pages of posts to go back through and catch up with everyone, so that's where I'm headed after this quick hello.

Mick, I hope your travels continue to be amazing - thanks for sharing the pics!

Lav, sorry your heat wave and your tooth pain both continue to plague you, and that your husband is having such trouble as well. I hope you get relief from everything soon.

TG - glad to hear the job is going well, even if tiring!

Slo - fantastic to hear the biofreeze is helping your knee so much. I wonder if that might help my back and SI joint pain?

NS - I agree, it would be great to be connected with everyone in some other way, even if just as a backup option if this site goes down or just becomes less reliable.

PQ - wow it's pretty chilly up in your area. I think there are several folks here who would gladly "donate" a few degrees (or a few dozen!) to you if that was possible.

Hellos to everyone I missed. Happy Thursdays to all!

            Re: 3rd September

            Hi friends,

Lav, evening news showed video of convict?s escape. He did a horizontal crab-walk up parallel walls onto prison roof, and got out from there. Amazing to watch!

Mick, seems your vacation this time is longer than most?

Our heat and drought continue in a decidedly monotonous way. Looking forward to a change, whenever it comes along. Working on a couple of volunteer projects. Updating contact info for our HOA, and registering microchips for dog rescue. Not especially exciting, but valuable for both organizations. I don?t mind the work, and both keep me busy in air conditioned comfort.

One of the benefits I perceived from drinking was that wine before bedtime helped me get sleepy. Over time though, as tolerance increased, that ?benefit? slipped away. Now, alcohol-free, I?ve got no problem sleeping; can barely keep my eyes open past 9:30. I?m usually awake before 5 am though, which seems too early, but I?m adjusting. Certainly gives me some nice morning time to be outdoors before the day?s heating takes hold.

MWO has managed to stay up for a lot of years now. Hope that continues. Pretty sure we?ve shared alternate contacts over the years that would help us reconvene in some other way if needed.

Hiya all how are we doing today then?hope everyone is doing good. Weather was really foggy here this morning, but cleared up fine. We went Holyrood Palace today...Scotlands residence for the royals..Balmoral is there holiday home. It was from here that theQueen was slow marched up to St Giles on her last journey. Unfortunately you're not allowed to take pictures inside thoughI must confess, my trigger finger got a bit itchyThey are also doing up the ruins of Holyrood Abbey. The gardens are well kept with a cracking view of Salisbury Crags and the Pentland hills.unfortunately I cant post videos here.
After that we walked the Royal Mile, and stopped off at the Canongate Kirk .when my regiment was disbanded in 1993,the colours were laid up here. Even seeing tthem brought a lot of memories back some good some not so.
Tomorrow we leave Edinburgh and head west towards Falkirk, and the Kelpies and the Falkirk wheel.
Yes pie this one is 16 days long..hope you are doing good. I agree, this site has been going a fair old time now..dont know why but it it doesn't seem to be attracting the numbers it used to .a reflection on the site or societies views in general?

Hiya wags..hopefully you will be able to read this and have got on to the site..you ready for your jollies?

Hiya teegee glad you liked the pictures.

Hiya Lav how are you today?we had a decent walk along the shore last night.hows YB?

                    Re: 3rd September

                    Greetings friends,

We hit 94 humid degrees today so it felt like 100 at least. We are promised storms tonight so I’m hoping for some relief.
YB hasn’t done as much complaining today but he’s also not doing much of anything but moving from chair to chair. I know he will need more steroid injections, just have to wait it out.

Mick, love the pics, such magnificent old buildings that have such a long history . It must be awesome to see all them close up.
Hope your weather holds for the rest of. Your trip.

Cyn, working regular hours now, cool. You will get used to it especially if you’re enjoying the process. You may end up sleeping like a baby soon

Wags, good to see you. The site seems to be pretty much back to normal after a few weird days. You have my number so always feel free to text or call if needed. Looks like we may be dealing with hurricane Lee next week, geez.

Pie, glad you’re keeping busy. My sleep got so messed up when I was drinking it was disgusting. I have to take some herbal stuff & a few Benadryl now but it helps. Just wish I could stop the ongoing hot flashes that wake me up out of a sound sleep, ugh. I switched to bamboo sheets a few years ago, they stay cooler. Today I ordered myself a ‘cooling blanket’ that promises to help, hope so anyway. The convict is still on the loose in the Longwood Garden area about 20 miles from here. The police don’t think he’s moved out of an 8-10 mile perimeter they’ve set up. He keeps popping. Up on trail cams, idiot.

Hello to PQ & Slo, hope you are both well.

                    Have a nice night all!

                      Re: 3rd September

MAE ALL…so I did read through everyone’s posts yesterday and when it came time to post mine it wouldn’t let me. Oh well, will just carry on. It was another busy day, my demo classes brought 18-19 people each with a lot of them signing up for the regular classes afterwards. That kept me hopping. Even though it was steady today it wasn’t hectic, then I realized the account was off. LOL

Lav…isn’t it nice when you’re actually listened to. Sorry the heatwave continues; it’s still cool here and now there’s no smoke, so I’ll send my weather on down to you. Busy with programs starting up again and there’s been an uptake in rental inquiries. I’m pretty much booked till after Xmas now so replying has been quick and easy. LOL Just now saw today’s post, 94! Yuk! Glad YB’s not complaining as much as you say there’s more to come. I am so grateful that my hot flashes were few and didn’t last long, I hope the cooling blanket helps. Sounds like the police might have a good perimeter set up for the convict. Hope they catch him soon.

TG…I did reply to your Tuesday post yesterday but couldn’t get it to load. I was quite impressed with the length of your post! I’m glad you’re feeling so good about being active, this job seems to be agreeing with you. How did day 3 go for you?

Slo…yup a common enemy will do that. LOL I’m glad your knee is feeling better. Hope you enjoyed your day with grandkids.

NS…I totally understand about not posting regularly. Hope the problematic interactions got sorted. We’ll be here so pop in anytime.

Mick…we finally got rid of all the smoke, such a relief. With the temp/wind direction change it moved it out. I’m loving all the pics you’re posting, thanks for taking the time to do that. Loved the pics of Scotland’s residence for the royals. How awesome to see Canongate Kirk even though not all the memories were good. I’ll be looking up Falkirk and Kelpies, these places are not familiar to me.

Wags…site has been giving everyone trouble, glad you got through. We’re going to warm up to normal 20C/68F, just where I like it. I’m hoping the snow will stay away, it’s already started on the ski slope west of me.

Pi…that evening news would have great to see, thanks for sharing that with us. I bet you’re looking forward to a change in your weather. I think your projects sound good, just enough to keep you busy. I can’t keep my eyes open past 9:30 either but only manage 3hrs of sleep at a time. If I’m awake after 4am I give up and start my day. I’ve always been an early riser; I like the calm before the day starts.

Time to figure out dinner. Hope this posts. Have a good night all…:smile:PPQP

                        Mae all -
Judy got off the phone with my nephew - a few of you know his history, and it has been a very dark time for months and months, but thanks to many levels of therapy (mostly new techniques and drugs/substances), he literally sounds like a new man? basically his brain has been re-wired. There is such hope for substance abuse, healing people and families, etc. I hope the next decade will bri g more if this to people suffering and their families?

My job is still going great - I am getting stronger day by day. I had 2 shifts of 6 AM to 10 pm, now will be doing 2 PM
To 10 pm? I?m used to being up early each day, so hopefully I?ll learn how to stay awake too!
Lav, cooler temps should be on their way to you from here- but we also got Canadian smoke, so sorry about that. I hope they get that convict soon - nerve/wracking.

Mick, superb pics - thx so much for being iur tour guide! Thx also for the wave at Dunbar? warmed my heart? not sure I?ll get there in this lifetime?

PPQ, PQ, SLO, Wags and NS wishing you all well - gotta go drop off to sleep now. Hoping this will post (from my phone?)
                        Cheers,

                          Re: 3rd September

My little neighborhood party this evening was a success!! It was a two-hour party on the driveway & in the garage, with appetizers that people brought, and I had sub sandwiches. Everyone brought their own drinks. About 25 people came. The weather changed from warm/hot yesterday to cold today, but oh well. People just wore jackets & sweaters. And went home when the temperature started to really drop.
So, thankfully my real estate agent and her husband-type-guy persuaded me to do this! They did most of it: made the invitations, arranged the icebreaker game, bought the plates & forks, picked up the subs; helped with set-up; and she stayed throughout and mingled with the crowd. Well, what’s wrong with having a party planner?! Haha. I’m not sure what’s in it for her; I guess potentially drumming up business.
I have shied away from parties since going AF, and am thankful that I found a way that I could do this!: just a two-hour meet & greet; and at 5 years sober, it doesn’t bother me or cause any kind of a charge in me to watch the other people drink.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Such good news that your nephew with the PTSD from war is getting real help that is working, TG.
I’m glad the job is working out for you! It sounds a bit exhausting to me, but you’re handling the learning curve and all the physical activity and the many days in a row just fine!

NS, I sure hope you will still stop in every couple weeks or so. Please don’t be a stranger! That business on the other thread really was ridiculous, and has caused us to lose our Army.

I enjoyed the views of the royal residence in Scotland, Mick; as well as seeing their quarters on the ship.

Those sound like great activities, Pie. They keep you busy, and are of service. Two neighbors have been working on the directory for our condo association, and I hear it’s almost ready!

Things are hopping indeed for you at work, PQ. I have been waking up too early a lot of mornings too. While Up North, I fell asleep for a 4-hour nap! That helped make up for the early morning awakenings.

Sending cold weather your way soon, Lav!

Mick, I was amazed to find so many sites for sober resources when I decided to kick the booze again earlier this year. A decade or more ago, MWO was one of very few; less competition, higher traffic. Many of today?s sites produce and offer content like books, videos, podcasts, etc., while MWO is primarily a discussion forum. Those of us who?ve forged relationships here, still find MWO enormously valuable, but for newcomers, we?re lacking in resources.
The good news is that there?s so much more help available, and societies are becoming less accepting of alcohol, albeit slowly. N/A beer is a thriving industry, mocktails are offered in restaurants, The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix) main character lives a very full, sober lifestyle. The more I look for signs of change, the more I see. Anyway, MWO will always have my deepest gratitude, however things unfold going forward.

Hello everyone and how are we today then? Hope all is well. We have just got to the site at Falkirk, this was meant to be a quiet sight as a bit of a rest and it certainly is that absolutely brilliant The Falkirk wheel is about a 25-minute walk from here and the kelpies is about an hour away apart from that there is absolutely nothing but Fields with horses and that is it. Lovely and sunny again here today absolutely gorgeous. It is supposed to be like this from the rest of the week so hopefully that comes true the next stop after this one is yet another Castle and then after that it is the Roman ruins at Vindolanda on Hadrian's Wall that is really worth looking at. There is about a two-year waiting list for volunteers to get places to go on the site to help excavate it. The Weeknd coming up tomorrow, has anyone got any plans for it? What ever you are doing I hope you all have a great time
