    Re: 10th September

    MAE to all,

I babysat all day (7 to 7) on Monday for Huxley, and this week will help with D1?s kids on Thursday instead of Wednesday, since I have my doctor appointment tomorrow for my knee.

Lav, I can see why you might skip the big craft fair. It won?t be fun trying to get your projects ready when your time is squeezed, and the day of won?t be much fun either with the worries about YB.

PQ, I wish you could?ve heard boss & accountant go at it too! I?m sure your meeting tomorrow will be civil & productive.

I can?t do a 10-mile hike anymore either. It sounds fun though, Mick! I love being outdoors and seeing beautiful scenery.

TG, I sure hope your heart just has a harmless little anomaly going on?especially one that might heal over time. I bet you needed that two days off in a row to refresh as you adjust to the new job. Thanks for sharing your 9/11 story?wow. You kinda got caught up in it. Hard to remember too as that was your honeymoon, and he is now gone -thanks to another global tragedy.

Lav, your son found a way to still help on 9/11, that thankfully didn?t put him directly in harm?s way. I hadn?t known how many firefighters were killed in the 9/11 attacks. Sadder yet how many suffered later from smoke etc. inhalation.

Glad you could make significant progress on your new office space, Wags. I guess that reminder from your drinking days is good for pausing to reflect that we no longer have to live that way!

I?m lonely and sad lately. It?s a hard adjustment to have lost both of my long term ?significant other? relationships (both husband and twin). One was 35-40 years long, the other was nearly 60 years long. Oh well, I?ll adjust eventually.

Thank you for being here, my friends!

Slo - I hope your sad and lonely feelings ease up as you continue to move forward in this next chapter of your life. Just remember, healing from grief isn't a linear process, and it's totally normal to have some days feel worse than previous ones. And as a non-drinker, you obv know hard feelings don't have to be run away from or drowned. Be gentle with yourself friend  Sending you a hug.

Lav - I hope your husband's epidural procedure goes well tomorrow. Makes total sense to skip the craft fair on the 30th. Glad you've got additional options a bit farther into the future.

PQ - sounds like you missed a few earfuls from the one-on-one with the accountant! I hope your meeting goes well tomorrow.

Mick - yet another amazing day on your current trip. Glad the weather has gotten so much better!

Hellos and waves to everyone. Have easy days going over the hump!

              Re: 10th September

              Good evening friends,

Totally exhausted here but all went well today. Not used to a 5 Am alarm anymore, ugh. Grateful to be retired
YB is hoping to get at least some relief from this 1st nerve block, time will tell. He goes back two weeks from today for the second attempt.
I pulled the plug on the big craft fair this afternoon. I just can’t expect things to be ‘normal’ when they’re clearly not. I’ll see what comes up later in the Fall. At 8:15 this morning while I was waiting for YB’s procedure to get done I got a county alert on my phone - the escapee prisoner was captured! Turns out it was K9 officer ‘Yoda” who got him, haha!!! I think he got a good bite or two in too. He’s now in a maximum security prison where he won’t be able to escape. Feeling relieved now that that sh*tshow is over.

PQ, I think it’s time to plant a ‘bug’ in the bosses office so you can hear what actually goes on in there Lol
I’m glad to have made the decision to skip the AppleFestival, my brain was beginning to go into overdrive. I don’t need that pressure at this point in my life. Now I have the time to fulfill some standing orders & decide what to do later in the fall.

Slo, I hope the appointment well OK today.
I really think as we age, our kids & even grandkids age loneliness seems to be right there to fill in the empty spots. I have to shake off those feelings too from time to time. Even old friends have mostly disappeared, family too. I guess we have to find other interest, crafting has been a good outlet for me. I really didn’t expect to have these feelings at this age but here we are. Keep an open mind, try new things as you are able just don’t let yourself sink into a depression. Hugs all around

Wags, hope the office comes together soon for you. I don’t enjoy decorating anymore, haha was never real good at it either

Mick, thank you for another day of pics, just beautiful!
I have to admit the Village People educated us all about the YMCA haha!!! Kepp having fun.

Cyn, hope you are well & doing an easy shift today.
Being back at my old hospital today just reminded me of how much it’s grown over the last 20 years, easy to get lost in there these days.

Hello to all & wishing everyone a nice night!

                Re: 10th September

MAE ALL...it appeared to be a slower day today. Things are getting finished and programs are all up and running now. I've promised myself to get back to the craft sale work tomorrow, a lot of people waiting to see if they get in. On the car front, a license plate appeared on the table last night. That means the car is registered and insured. I'll be checking it out on the weekend and see how I feel about it.

Slo...sorry you're going through a "lonely" phase. Try to keep yourself busy. You'll be busy with D1's kids tomorrow. How did the Dr. appointment go? Is the knee any better? Usually I can hear what's going on in the bosses office, I must have super busy on Tuesday, didn't hear a thing.

Wags...my meeting went just fine, thanks. Being busy has certainly kept me out of trouble. LOL I would have liked to know what they were fighting about because it usually affects me. She comes up with some off the wall ideas.

Mick...I'm glad Culzean Castle turned out to more interesting than you expected. Thanks again for sharing the pics, they make me feel like I'm right there with you guys. I'll be googling Hadrian's Wall. It sounds familiar, were you there before?

Lav...glad you're home safe and sound and that everything went good today. Hopefully it'll help. What great news about the escapee! That'll be a load off. I'm glad you made the decision to pull out of the fair. You've got way too much on your plate right now. Now you've got some breathing room. I'll have to find out what went on in the accountants meeting. We're on good enough terms that she'll tell me. LOL She loves bad mouthing the boss.

Thought I'd have baked macaroni & cheese for dinner and then realized I don't have anything for lunch. There won't be any left overs. Will have to make up some egg salad sandwiches. Shout out to the rest of the gang. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

                  Re: 10th September

                  Quick hello to all!
Long days at work, but I?m getting stronger/getting used to the routine? eating lunches outside, and masking - the store is quite close quarters, and the break room is tiny?
I did a quick read back - sending hugs to all - SLO, I understand that loneliness? it?s what motivated me to seek work (not suggesting it for you - just saying I get it it?) good luck ? it takes energy to build a new life, but there are rewards?
Lav, SO relieved that convict has been caught! Hope the epidural helps YB? also glad you took the pressure off of yourself re:the show? there will be more? you have been handling so much lately?
Mick, still on the road? Travel safely.
PPQ, sounds like there?s was a ruckus at work! Hope things calm down, and hope the car works out?
Wags, sounds like you are already in the thick of teaching? Or getting ready?

Today was the day the I help with the homeless meals? and after making 300 lunches, someone discovered that a major freezer (upright) wasn?t working in the industrial kitchen. Suddenly I looked around and everyone had vanished? so I got to hunt through 3 floors of office to see where I could stow the stuff. I felt like I was back at work! But got it done, so we won?t be wasting anything.
Trying to ward off a cold at the moment, so will go to bed shortly?
Wishing all well - sorry if I skipped anyone!

                    Re: 10th September

                    Hi everybody,

That castle looks spectacular, Mick! What a beauty. This is really a special trip, learning so much about your home country.
I loved the “Village People” joke too!

I saw on the news that the prisoner had been captured, Lav. And saw on the news the other day that he had managed to arm himself! That story became more & more in the national spotlight as the days wore on & on. He does seem clever & resourceful.

Egg salad will work for both dinner and then lunch tomorrow, PQ. Are you back to driving your own car yet? Or will that be next week.
Yes, I will be with D1 & her kids tomorrow, and that is such a comfort. But two have croup, and the trick will be keeping the baby away from them.

I had my knee appointment with a top-notch knee surgeon today, and, as expected, there’s really nothing they can do for this suboptimal knee replacement in my too lax of a joint. *Sigh*. Well, you all live with chronic pain of one sort or another too.

I hope your day was easy over the hump too, Wags. Thanks for the reminder that grief is nonlinear. It’s good to remember that; otherwise you think you’re over something, and then, “Wham!” I heard recently that, after a divorce, each 7 years of the marriage takes a year to grieve. So, no wonder I’m still struggling at going on 1 1/2 years later. Geez: You can’t live with ‘em, and you can’t live without ‘em!

Lav, yes, we both have loneliness creeping in at this age. I do need to work on keeping busy and keeping my mind in the right place. Two things you work hard at. I took a walk with my neighbor tonight, and that helped. My knee hated it though, so I hope this big ice bag will help soothe it.

                    G’night.

                      Re: 10th September

Lav - so glad the escapee was finally caught! You were the first person I thought of when I heard the news. Your decision to not do the craft fair later this month seems really smart. You've got a lot going on and it's hard to know how your husband will be doing after the second epidural.

TG - I'm sure you ARE getting stronger after the work you've been putting in! Hope you're able to fight off that cold.

Slo - Really sorry to hear your knee isn't really "fixable". I hope you're able to find non-surgical ways of managing and even easing the pain.

Mick - that castle looks pretty amazing! Seems like you're having a pretty phenomenal trip.

PQ - glad your meeting went well and that your programs are all up and running at this point.

Ok, it's really late here and I'm falling asleep so gonna say goodnight for now. Catch you all tomorrow!

Hello all and how are we doing today then question mark hope everyone is doing okay. As you can probably guess I am doing this on my phone in the car park on the way to the new site. We left earlier on and got stuck in and our traffic jam on the motorway. Hope everyone is doing well, Julie has just nipped in to get some bits and pieces we aren't too far from the site now, but just had to fill up with fuel as well. The weather yesterday was absolutely horrendous, it was raining like mad and there was some on the way down early on however it is quite sunny now. Here are some pictures from yesterday the inside of the Castle and the world garden apologies for the short post but I will see if I can do better tomorrow. We are going to Vindolanda tomorrow to see the Roman ruins looking forward to that take care

                          Re: 10th September

                          Greetings friends,

Slept much better last night & got up at 7:30 this morning, nice! Getting a weather break here, sunny & only 76 degrees today, also nice
After two weeks of watching news reports of the convict I figured it was time for a break. Well apparently not. A fire started last night at 11:30 pm in the town?s business block of 100+ year old buildings. It burned all night & all day, fire companies from other counties, Delaware & Maryland came to assist. At least 6 businesses were lost & the 90 people who lived in apartments over the businesses have lost their homes. But there was no loss of life or injuries so that?s a blessing. My son is an assistant chief at the local fire company but he was in DC at his regular job & missed it all. This pic was at the beginning of the fire:
                          IMG_1841.jpg

                          PQ, men. & cars?..
YB can barely walk but he went to the car dealer today wanting to trade in his newish large truck for a smaller truck. He?s decided not to do anymore trailer towing (getting too old haha). So he?ll be going back Saturday to pick up the new truck. While he was there he decided to put a down payment on a new car for me - wtf?? I?ve told him repeatedly I don?t want a new car, love my 5+ year old car. I told him I?m not making any more car payments so he said he will LOL. So apparently I will be picking up a new 2024 Chevy Trax on Saturday whether I want to or not, crazy. I hope you get your wheels straightened out soon too.

Cyn, the re?s always an advantage working with some younger folks. They?ll help keep you energized for sure.
That was a good save you made with the food at the shelter. Get yourself some rest now.

Slo, sorry to hear about your knee report. I think you have a pretty good handle on the self care you need. Rest when needed but move around as much as possible if that makes sense. That convict also murdered someone in his home country of Brazil so yeah he?s a slippery little dude. I don?t know if I mentioned but his sister was picked up & deported due to overstaying her visa. He was convicted here for stabbing his girlfriend 38 times in front of her children

Wags, hope your day was a good one

Mick, you?re really making me want to live in a castle with all these awesome pics haha!!
Hope the weather clears up for you!

Hello to Pie & anyone else stopping in tonight.
                          Have a good night all,

                            Re: 10th September

                            Good morning!

Mick must be busy at the Roman ruins today.
Was that a statue of the Loch Ness monster, Mick? I remember learning about that in our reading book in elementary school.

I had a good day with daughter and her three little ones yesterday. Oh, that Cooper is a wonder! Such a wise little 6-month-old, with those soulful eyes. He’s so cute & cuddly with those fat thighs, huge mop of dark brown, long, loose curls; and those three cheek & chin dimples!
Beckett is a little bit over the hump with croup, and Mabel has it worse now. Just so they don’t infect the baby. Daughter is very kind. We spent time outdoors at a nature preserve.

That’s such a shame about the fires, Lav. I’m glad your son was busy with his day firefighter job, and unable to respond to it (thinking about my fallen firefighter cousin of around his age).
Glad you slept well & long. Hard to believe how many years you got up at 5 am to get ready for work! That’s one reason why I, for the most part, didn’t work first shift.
Yes, I do have a handle on the self-care required for my knee, and it’s exactly as you say. Plus go back to wearing a soft brace on it, and use lots of Professional grade BioFreeze and Voltaren gel on it regularly. This is why I had to dump the big family home and downsize: it was a woman’s job to take care of the whole thing solo, no cleaning services or extra help like that were allowed; and I was in pain and just couldn’t do it anymore. The space I have now I can take care of, if I carefully spread the tasks out; although I am at my outer limit. (I recently tried again to have one cleaning/laundering etc.day per week; but that isn’t going to work for me.)
Just so you are in favor of and enjoy your new car. I got forced to give up my beloved minivan and take on ex-HB’s brother’s old car once, and I resented it.
YB is trying to be sweet, and that’s nice.

TG, I guess your new job of stocking fridges & freezers came in handy at your volunteer job! Thankfully you were still there to save everything.
You are right: there are rewards in building a new life, and that’s where I (we) need to put my focus.

Wags, sounds like you put a full day in yesterday. Hi to PQ!
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Got near to the fire site today - it’s one huge disaster. They have taken down 2 buildings so far, looks like the rest need to go too. What a shame really.
I have been busy all day just trying to keep animals in line. &fed, including YB haha. My little mental health escape was a walk thru Walmart.
The weather is just perfect, sunny & 74 degrees, no complaints.

Mick, sorry about the rain but glad you got home safely . The pics have been awesome, thank you!

Slo, glad you’re enjoying those grandbabies!
Between you & me I really hated working day shift, it just beats you up! When the kids got a little older & were in school all day it just made sense to change to days so I could see them in the evenings. You do what you have to do I guess. The new car thing is a bi of manipulation on YB’s part, I’m just tired of dealing with it, honestly.
Keep taking care of that knee, you know what to do

Sending hellos to PQ, Cyn, Pie & anyone else stopping in later.
                                Have a nice night all!
