    Re: 8th October

Mick and Lav, thanks for the pics!

Lav, that cloud looks like it is right out of The Wizard of Oz! I hear you on the lack of friends - thank goodness for FB!

Mick, such lush beautiful carpeting - what a lot of work you have done! Congrats.

PS - I meant also to say that I am not able to be with my elder as much (because of work), and for one reason or another I feel that she is failing... I have made lovely dishes of food and put them in the fridge, but she hasn't eaten them ( as I saw tonight when I brought more food over.) She was sleeping, but woke up just before I left... she admitted that she hasn't been eating. I think she's giving up... I wrote to her daughter (I am close to that daughter)... it may be they will need to take some action. So sad...

    Wishing all well -

      Re: 8th October

hiya all..how are we doing today? it is absolutely hammering down ..it hasnt stopped...so its no outside work today..Ive decided to have an easy day today....scrubbed the kitchen floor and thats it..no more ..floor came up well

      20231011_131252.jpg

Hiya teegee lovely to see you ,..the house has taken a fair bit of work ,but the result is good ..the carpet is really cushioned and soft ..We actually ate together at the dining table last night, the first time this year ...its usually a lap balancing act ,
Im sorry to hear about your elder ,I think you are right ,at some point folk decide they have had enough whether that be self or sub consciously .I remember my aunt telling me she had had enough and it was time to go ,..and my brother has also said that ..hopefully you and the daughter will find that trigger to spark her up again.jeez it sounds like the ignition on a cooker!!!you take care ...

hiya ppqp how are you ,hope all is well and that arthuritis isnt bothering you too much .you take care of yourself ,

hiya Lav ,how are you doing today then? hope your weather is better than ours..why will yb not do the stretches ...I remembering in the same position ..and I wouldnt do them ,but I do now ,and tbh they help no end .I know what you mean about getting tied down to do nothing,,we actually had a heated discussion about the carpets etc...Madam went a bit mad ..If there is work to be done I work until it is either done or I cannot work anymore ..Julies method is to take her time..and to be honest ,I dont work half as hard as I used to ..I find it hard to do nothing.Im similar to you in as much as I left Scotland when I was younger came south ,worked ,then joined the army travelled ,and then demobbed and joined the prison service ,which similar to the cops , can preclude friendships outside that particular niche ..plus you get your own view on life and people ...quite suspicious and cynical at times..ie expressions of overt friendship make you think ...what are they hiding ,what are they after ...Fortunately retirement has erased a lump of that ..

hiya pie ..how are you doing? how is the rescue doing? hope all is well .

hiya Slo ...how are things with you?hope all iswell with you..How is Huxley doing?

right folks ...time to go ...take care ...

        Re: 8th October

        Greetings friends,

Today was baby Bob’s turn to go to the vet, he charmed everyone there! He doesn’t know it but he’s scheduled for his neutering Nov 1, Lol.
He was easy to deal with, nothing like bad ass Dave haha!

Mick, I hope that rain has stopped by now, you’ve had quite enough I think. Our rain arrives Friday night & lasts all day Saturday.
You know we knew what the old friends were doing back in the early 70’s & really didn’t care. It was their choice. At least we knew we wouldn’t be arrested for anything illegal in our possession Lol. I laugh thinking about them now, they thought they were being so sneaky & cool haha.
Glad you finally decided on an EASY day today

Cyn, we have bald eagle sightings around here too. There’s lots of road kill & small animals in the area for them to lunch on, haha.
glad to hear you’re adjusting to the shift changes, it does take time. Sleep evaded me last night too for some reason. Hope to catch up tonight.
FB does keep me entertained, can’t lie about that! Sounds like your elder needs more supervision, someone/place to motivate her to eat, etc. a lot of them just plain lose interest in living. Her family needs to step in.

PQ, that was a crazy looking cloud for sure but it didn’t actually rain.
Sorry your arthritis flared up, change of season response maybe. Keep taking that biologic since it obviously helps. Glad to hear you’re making the renters pay for their thievery, LOl. Take it easy

Slo, hope your day was good & Pie, hope you’re OK too!
Think I’ll take a short walk before it gets dark. Have a good night all!

          Re: 8th October

MAE ALL...another steady day but at least the rental inquiries took a break. Currently working on my Winter Programs and organizing a New Year's Eve Dance. Auditors were in today so that kept the accountant busy and out of everyone's hair.

TG...sounds like you're getting the work sorted out. Sorry to hear about your elder but glad you were able to reach out to the daughter. Hopefully some changes will be made.

Mick...nice job on the kitchen floor. I hope you packed it in after that. It was raining when I got up this morning and lasted all day. A steady rain, nothing like the downpours you seem to get. At least it wasn't snow.

Lav...Bob and Dave, different ends of the spectrum huh. Relief came quickly after the injection. I think the physical work taking the bar down aided in the flare up. Heard from my Dr.'s office, I have an appointment in January with a Urologist. I thought I'd been scoped everywhere they could of but apparently not. LOL Had my one-on-one with the boss today, it was a good meeting. He's very grateful for my work ethics and appreciates all I do. We do have a good repour which makes everything easier.

Pi...I was pleased to read that you're taking in another rescue. Sounds like this one could be a handful but I know you're up to the challenge. When do you get him?

Slo...I agree with the others, I think your daughter's decision was the right one. Good for her in recognizing it and doing something about it. 20 is so young with lots of life changes to come. I was feeling a bit down on Sunday and thought of you. Made me feel like I'm not the only one who goes through these moods. Made me feel better.

Wags...sounds like things are going ok for you. Sorry I can't remember any specifics and if I try to scroll back afraid I'll loose my post. LOL

Shout out to anyone I missed. Have a good night all....:smile:PPQP

            Re: 8th October

            Greetings,

PQ, I was just wondering if the bar take-down had caused your arthritis flare up, and then I read your post, and sure enough!
Boss should especially appreciate your work ethic after that! So glad you have a good rapport with him after the hell you went through with the last boss.
Thankfully the calls settled down today so you could work on planning some upcoming events.

TG, sounds like your elder needs someone with her more full time to prompt her to eat her meals etc. Or, maybe she is just naturally slowing down and giving up because it is time. Isn’t she 97? You sure are a blessing in her life. I know it has been mutual too.
It sure is hard to get a daily routine down with the shift changes. It keeps you flexible, I guess. Whenever I’ve been in Trader Joe’s, I must say I’ve never seen the young workers there racing around or with nose to the grindstone. They seem relaxed, and sociable with one another. I guess they know how to pace it.

Huxley will be fine. He just had thick yellow snot coming out of his nose some, and was somewhat under the weather. Nothing like croup-y Coopy was!
Huxley’s mother is leaving for Guatemala tomorrow, so extra day care and Daddy will be taking care of him.

Lav, I thought you were turning Dave out and keeping just Bob! I know, didn’t have the heart to. I understand. He’s used to the indoors now.
You were lucky to have a big friend group in high school. But, then your paths diverged anyways.

Mick, it’s interesting to hear how a career in the prison service affects how a person sees people, and how it affects one’s social life too. Makes total sense.
I vacuumed out my car this weekend, and it took a long time even without dirt from old carpeting. Some dog hair still in there stuck in the carpet fibers under the seats from our dog, that ex-HB kept after our divorce…
That dog died today. I had to find out over Instagram when Young Daughter posted about it. I would have liked to have been notified over our family group text thread; that was my dog too for 13 years! Instead he only notified the daughters. Maybe he was just not able to think it through due to being distraught.

Young Daughter will be fine. A hard part was that she broke up with a perfectly nice guy; no toxicity whatsoever in their relationship! But they were drifting apart, so that’s that.

              Re: 8th October

Pie, there’s an article in the newest issue of AARP magazine about a guy in Florida with a dog rescue business. He rescues dogs & cats from natural disaster areas, like the earthquake in Turkey; and helps refugees reunite with their pets, like in the Ukraine.

Wags, over the hump you go…

The great news is I finally have a diagnosis for my knee and low back pain, and can finally move forward with some treatment! My dumb knee replacement has left my legs at different lengths, which has thrown off my pelvis badly (the nerve damage that I feel in the sacral area); which is being exacerbated by a fusion of L3 & L4 vertebrae’s, which is throwing off my neck…Things are getting worse & worse, like numbness & tingling in my feet now, and clawing of my toes: so I’m thrilled to finally be able to find help!
Insurance won’t cover it, so thousands of dollars; but, with custom-made foot orthotics, chiropractic manipulation, supplements, laser therapy treatments etc. etc. --I might be able to heal some!!

That’s my good news for the day! I hope everyone gets a good night of solid sleep tonight! Thanks, friends.

                Re: 8th October

MAE all - just a quick post for me right now, and hopefully a longer one later. I'm sitting here waiting/expecting to hear from our vet with news about our dog's lymph nodes (yes it's lymphoma or no it's not). I'm trying to stay positive and optimistic but deep down I'm a bit worried and scared. I'm usually not a big worrier in life - mostly it's just difficult not knowing. This would have definitely led me to drink in the past.

I'll check back in more fully later this evening or tomorrow latest after I've unwound from a long day of teaching and had a better chance to read back through all of your posts.

Aw Wags...the waiting is the hardest. The not knowing. Sorry you're going through this and I hope the news is good. Be proud of the fact that this has not lead you to drink. Sending positive vibes to you and will keep you in my prayers. PPQP

                    Re: 8th October

The new foster dog is not nearly as difficult as I?d expected. He is super skittish, but highly food motivated, so easily encouraged using treats. I?m on a Messenger thread with a couple who have expressed interest in him. They?ve been on the quiet side though, so have some doubts that they?ll move forward to adopt. Hoping that they?re just busy working and will communicate more this weekend.

Nice going with the carpet replacement Mick! There?s something about hauling old carpet away that?s very satisfying.

Let us know what you learn from the vet, Wags. Fingers crossed for a good report!

Hello everyone and how are we today then? Hope everyone is doing okay I am currently out and about bimbling as usual so this post is being done on my phone. Hope everyone is doing okay. The weather over here today is absolutely glorious definitely autumnal this morning however it is nice and sunny at the moment only 12 degrees but it is the sunshine that counts! Did a few jobs first thing this morning in the garden, couple of jobs in the house but nothing spectacular and yes I did rest yesterday! I treated myself last night to a camera. I have always loved photography, and have tried all sorts of ways to take decent pictures using gimbals go pros and all sorts of other things however last night I bought a camera that is absolutely fantastic it has a built-in zoom lens from 24 millimeters to two thousand millimeters which actually means you can take some fantastic pictures I'm really looking forward to using it. Anyway onwards and upwards.

Hiya slo how are you today then? Glad you have finally got a diagnosis on your knee and everything. Sorry to hear about your dog it was a pretty rubbish way to let you know. Yes the prison service is very much like the police and as much as you keep to yourselves mixed with you your own and everyone is very careful what they say and do in front of you. The other thing that used to annoy me was people would always say or have you met such and such who turned out to be some Notorious criminal but in actual fact I've met most of them and their notariety meant absolutely nothing they were a number and a body on my landing or on my wing. All in the past now I have got two rabbits who cause much more issues than any criminal I've met! Hope you have a good day

Hiya lav how are you today then question mark hope all is well over there with the Bob and Dave show! I'm laughing now, let's see how much I laugh tomorrow both my rabbits have got to go for their vaccinations tomorrow morning so we shall see how is YB doing? Have you got him doing the stretching exercises yet? Take care and have a great day and yes the rain has finally gone for how long I don't know.

Hiya ppqp how are you doing today then? Hope all is well with you and that the boss and the whole team are back on an even Keel how is the coordinator doing question mark is she still upsetting everything? How is arthuritis today? Hope it has come down a bit for stop take care and have a good day

Hiya wags how are you doing? Sounds like you had a pretty hectic time? Hope today is a lot easier for you. And things sort themselves out for you.

Hiya pie how are you doing?you good?

Right folks thats me..take care and have a good day

                        Re: 8th October

Good day all, I hope you don't mind me dropping in here. I was reading here yesterday but felt like a bit of an intruder since I haven't posted here in so long. I guess I've been feeling nostalgic of late and wondered how everyone was doing. It's sad to see this site has gotten so quiet but it was nice to see that some of you are still around.

Drinking just isn't a part of my life anymore, although I do still have a drinking husband. After much kicking and screaming, he's accepted that I am a non-drinker.

Life is good for us right now. We both retired in 2015 and ended up moving to Florida to be near his family. A couple years ago we were informed that our county is going to take our land to build a road. Eminent domain. I'm not sure if that exists in other countries or what, but I'm sure the government has a way of taking your property without your consent wherever you live. So we have been in limbo, waiting to move. My husband is so angry and disillusioned with Florida that he wants to move back up north. Lav, we are looking in your neck of the woods, however our attorney told us we can't move or buy a house until the county makes an offer. They will have to pay our moving expenses and more if we wait, so here we sit.

Mick, it's great to see you still posting here and it looks like you keep yourself busy with the home renovations and now your photography.

Slo, that is really unfortunate that they made your legs uneven! My husband had a knee replacement and he regrets it, although I know people who have said only positive things about it. I'm happy to hear that there are some potential solutions to your leg issues and pain.

Wagmor, I'm wishing positive results for your sweet dog. I'm so sorry that you are under such stress.

Porqoui, nice to see you posting here!

Pie, I love that you are fostering! Have you been doing that for long? How did you get started? I am constantly watching Youtube videos of dogs being rescued and fostered.

                        Have a good day all.

                          Mae all -
Quickly jumping in to say hello -
Wags, sending support - I hope the news is good, but either way, your pup is so lucky to have a great owner. Crossing fingers for you.
Lav, is it ?back to the Doctor? today? I hope you get some answers.
PPQ, here?s hoping all is quiet for you heading into the weekend.
Mick - ?the rabbits have been more criminal than those in the Nick?? LOL!!!
SLO - wow, what a lot of great information!! So sorry you have to go through fixing it, but so good to know what is going on. Wow.
Pie, glad the pup is turning out to be a little easier for you. Thank you always for your service.
Flyaway, how nice to see you here! Welcome! Stay!

I think the drop in numbers here is due to so many online ?Quit? resources? I belong to one group, which started out as ?Tempest? (Holly Whittaker), then was moved to ?Monument?. Those friends are newer than my friends here, but the moderators of the group calls are all licensed addiction therapists. I try to drop in there for checkins also? though I never even think about AL anymore, support is always good.

I had a ?double? work day yesterday? Homeless meals in the morning, work afternoon and evening. In the meantime I tried a new trick for my elder friend. She?s not eating? so I got some thermoses, made her coffee and a soft-food lunch and put them on the table in the kitchen where she sits. She enjoyed it! Hopefully that trick will work for the days I?m working.

Worn out today, Heating pad and rest are the only things on the agenda?
                          Wishing all well -

                            Good evening all,

7 pm & it’s pitch dark, typical Fall I guess
It’s been mild outside, rain moving in for the weekend so I’ll just hunker down I guess.

FlyAway, hello & welcome! Yep, we have kept this thread happy & thriving for a long time now so please join us.
My curiosity is peaked now, tell us more about your potential move. Sorry you’re being displaced by ‘progress’. I’m sure that. Would piss me off haha!

Cyn, sounds like you have things under control so you’re busy but not crazy. Taking YB back to the doc next Tueday, he’s still hobbling with the crutch & doing a fair amount of moaning, poor thing.

Mick, I used to be amused with the people who were uncomfortable around us because of our jobs. Just how much did they really have to hide abut themselves, haha. Good luck getting your rabbits to the vet, I’m sure that’s not easy either. Glad yo had a rain free day for a change.

Pie, glad your foster is manageable. We go to the Amish hardware stores & buy huge boxes of dog treats, cheap. They come in handy with my food centric Beagle mix. Hope those potential adopters come thru for you.

Wags, hope the news about your pup is good

Slo, good to hear you have a Tx plan going forward for your knee. Insurance companies need to change their attitudes about alternative treatments, they’re ridiculous. I spent one year working for Blue Cross & was flabbergasted at some of their decisions. Still have the occasional nightmare about one or two of them. Hang in there!

PQ, I hope the boss proves his appreciation of you in the form of a nice raise or bonus
My animal collection here keeps me on my toes. Today Bob followed me into the garage while I was checking on the new kittens. He wanted to play with them, haha. Dave doesn’t bother with the kittens & that’s just as well. Glad you got quick relief from your injection.

Better go close up the chickens & say goodnight!
                            Have a nice night all.

MAE ALL?it was a quiet day, accountant not in. LOL Managed to get my Winter Programs finished so can take a breather on that till I hear back from instructors. Got the boss working on the budget and tickets for our New Year?s Eve Social, so can take that off my plate and all articles submitted for publishing. Should be an easy day tomorrow, looking forward to the weekend.

Slo?that is great news about your diagnosis. Sorry that insurance won?t cover it but at least you have a plan towards some relief.

Wags?hoping you?ve had some good news. Hope you were able to unwind and get some rest.

Pi?good news about the new foster dog not being as difficult as you expected. Hope the couple on the messenger thread are just busy and you hear from them this weekend.

Mick?glad you rested yesterday and that you got sunshine for a change. We got your weather, raining, overcast and just plain dull. Good for you treating yourself, you?ll have great fun with the new camera. The assistant director has taken the week off, after a few emergencies granddaughter has been moved to hospice and she?s looking after the siblings.

Flyaway?nice to have you post, please stick around. That?s a bummer about ?Eminent domain? and yes it exists here too. Sounds like good advice from your lawyer, it just sucks being in limbo though. This thread has been my home base for over 10 years now!

TG?things are going be quiet heading into the weekend for me, thanks. Seems like your new trick might work but I also hope the family steps up. Hope you get some much-deserved rest.

Lav?it?s the 7am pitch dark driving to work that gets me. You?ll be hunkering down with your embroidery I bet. Is YB going back to the same doc? I?m glad Dave doesn?t bother with the kittens.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Have a restful night all?:smile:PPQP

                                NO LYMPHOMA!!!

Pathologist said our pup's lymph nodes showed reactive something something, likely in response to an infection or inflammation. Vet says *maybe* due to fighting the giardia. We'll see once that has been fully treated and resolved, but for now the bestest goodest news is NO cancer.

Happy dances all the way around :yay: :congratulatory::victorious::sohappy:
