    Re: 29th October

MAE ALL...just home from a very long day at work. We do a Safe Trick-or-Treats at the community centre from 3:30-7:00pm. The childcare group volunteered to do a haunted house and photo booth. The childcare kids made a haunted maze and it was a huge success. The childcare director, who's granddaughter passed away, was a huge Halloween/anything scary fan so the Mom decided to have a Halloween Memorial for her at the funeral home this afternoon, so both childcare directors were gone and I was asked to fill in with monitoring emails from parents who weren't sending their kids to care after school plus help out directing people at the door. The part-time staff coming in at 4:30 is basically useless. He worked Saturday night and didn't do anything he was supposed to. So the boss was bringing him to "chew him out". The next thing I saw was an email from the boss to the boxing day renter saying he wouldn't be able to staff the event so had to cancel. He may be learning. He does have staff to work New Year's Eve and yes he will pay time and a half. The long-term renter putting the dance on is very self-sufficient so not worried about them. I am officially back to my 2 week Christmas break and not worried about anything. LOL

Slo...good for you and I'm glad you feel relieved. Now you can go back to just being Grandma with the occasional babysitting gig like you say. You made me think of the childcare director, when her kids started producing grandchildren she was asked to babysit and she said sure, my rate is $X/hr. That put a stop to that. LOL

Wags...personally I think I dodged a bullet. LOL Hope you had a good rest last night.

Mick...I just bet your back and shoulders are yelling at you, bet Julie had something to say too. So, if you do what Lav told you to Tell julie I said you should be tied to a chair for a day or two you're golden with the new suite. LOL Boss's rationale was that the client wanted to establish an annual Family Christmas Dinner moving forward but if he's only making $160 after costs it is not worth it. Boss is also regretting the New Year's Eve Dance because he will be the one on call. Dark green rug and cushions sounds perfect, awaiting an update pic. News just announced we turn our clocks back this Saturday and it made me smile thinking of you.

Pi...thanks for sharing, how true those words. I've been watching news reports of the younger generation not interested in alcohol and the new mocktail bars and catering companies that have evolved. Makes me think that there's hope out there after all. I hope all is going well with the rescue pup.

Lav...yes I remember Dave's post anesthesia. LOL Good luck with getting Bob in tomorrow. The difference between this boss and the last one is he suffers the consequences of his decisions. In his early days I would pop over to the community centre to deal with whatever and that was a major reason for him to hire part-time staff. I have only covered for him once on a weekend when he was out of town. I hope your hard freeze Wednesday doesn't drag on and that moma cat takes you up on the garage offer.

TG...thinking of you. Did you get the time worked out to get vaccinated? Just assuming that you're busy with work, elder and homeless lunches. Look after yourself.

    Have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

      Re: 29th October

      Mae all-
Quick hello from TGville? day off today, but my eyes are already closing, and I wanted to say hello when it looked like others were able to post? whew! (We should maybe have a backup plan to contact each other if the site goes down? Just a thought?)
Lav, sorry you even have to think about issues with the DL over holidays, good luck. Is YB still on the mend? Hope so. You must be busy with embroidery? 👍
SLO so good to hear the relief and honesty in your voice - good for you for listening to your heart? sounds like it is time for you to take care of yourself - no one else is more important!!
Pie - hope all is well ? I thought of you when I pressed ?send? on my adoption application today!
Fly - what a horror story about the trip! You might want to make some noise that will go ?up the food chain? until someone hears it? I think they owe you ?
PPQ - glad to hear your meds are set up and all is well . Sheesh, your boss is cavalier about scheduling things? okay if you don?t have to lift a finger to fix it!
Mick - what a wonderful comfy space you have created! I hope you might decide to actually sit in one of those chairs for a minute or two 😉? you deserve it. Take care?
Wags, hoping all is well in Wagville?
Okay, hopefully I am off to slumber. Even when very tired , I have trouble getting to sleep. I have a basically 7 AM to 10 pm schedule tomorrow (homeless meals AM then work), so hoping for a good night?s sleep tonight?
      May we be well -
      TG

        Re: 29th October

TG - you sound busy and a bit tired, but also alive! No way could you keep up with all you're doing if al was still in your life.

Mick - seems like your body is asking for a wee break. You'll be back at it full steam ahead very soon I'm sure.

Lav - hope cat mama checks into Chez Lav for the night if it's going to be that cold! How's your husband doing with his pain and mobility?

Fly - what a frustrating experience with the airline!!! You might already know this, but these days one of the best ways to get a company to actually *do* something is post on their Twitter feed (errrr, "X" - I still think of it as twitter). Hopefully there won't be a next time but just in case, it seems to be pretty effective. 1000 miles is quite a drive to do so spontaneously. Hope all went (or is going) smoothly.

PQ - glad to hear things are all set for the NYE renter and your vacation time is still intact.

Pie - great thoughts about keeping Halloween sober.

Slo - hope you're feeling good about your decision re: grandkids/childcare. You've obviously got 100% support from all of us here, including several who have grandkids themselves.

Things have been pretty busy in Wagland, but not just with work. Last week I had several days with few or no tutoring sessions, but lots of time on house/yard projects and things of personal interest. I've decided to enroll in a 6-month Spanish course that should get me to an advanced proficiency level, or possibly higher (I'm currently intermediate). I am VERY excited about this. I also got further details on the seminar I was asked to do at the university, and it looks like I'll be doing that in late Feb or early Mar, 2024. I'll be putting together a few possible designs for a one-day version and for a two-day version, and then the folks at the U will decide what fits best on their end. So lots going on and some welcome variety.

        Happy November everyone!!!

WHITE RABBITS...mae all ,how are we then?its 0645 ...Ive been up since 4.30..couldnt sleep...the water was cut off last night apparently there was a fractured main somewhere down the hill..fortunately I had 20 litres of fresh on the van in containers ..now fixed,so I bled the heating system and the water thru at 5 this morning ,then changed a couple of led lights before I was told to sit down..pouring with rain here ..was going to take the camera out this morning .

hiya ppqp. how are you then? so the boss decided to see sense did he ? nothing to do with the fact that he would be on call?Sounds like you had a pretty busy day at work.Yep got the cushions ...got a rug ..but thats going back today..it closes the room in too much,,the door gets changed on Friday ..Its been dipped so I have to buff and polish it ..If you look above the window you will see a white strip of wood ...thats where im putting the distressed piece ..hope you have an easy and chilled day.

          20231101_065920.jpg

hiya Lav ...we got no trick or treaters here either ...oh dear so sad too bad ..how was Bob?I meant to say ..the other day when I was taking the sofa apart,a little black kitten was here ,it just would not go ..it went into the house the garage and was hiding under the sofa as I was trying to put it back together ..Eventually it went ...and came back ...and went ..its obviously not a wild un .I must be honest ..I actually thought to myself I need a rest ..and yet here I am still at it!!hope you have a good day.

hiya pie how are you doing ...hope all is well. How is the pilots and paws going?Any excuse is one for drinking now...but if you notice ...its the older folk that are doing it..younger ones are messing around with other kit ..just as harmful.Over here they have p.ss ups for the grand opening of an envelope!!

              Re: 29th October

              Greetings sleepless friends,

Glad I’m not the only one, geez. I admit part of what kept me awake last night was concern for the kittens being out in the cold. They are now back in the garage with their mama too. Tonight we are supposed to have a hard freeze but. They’ll be fine in the garage with a space heater warming it up a bit.
Picked ‘Bob’ up this afternoon, he was quiet when I brought him home but he ate & used the litter box, figured he was fine. Then he went to the water bowl & proceeded to stir most of the water out of the bowl onto the floor - just like ‘Dave’ when I brought him home from his surgery last year haha.
I hope everyone settles the hell down so I can get some sleep!!!

PQ, I’m glad to hear your 2 week holiday break is safe, Lol
How’s the snow situation? I hope it’s warmed up & melted by now. We are supposed to have a big warm up again next week, it’s crazy.

Cyn, you have one super long day planned. Take care & get yourself some rest.

Wags, I moved the kittens when the mama wasn’t looking b ut she eventually found them safe in the garage. Hope they all stay put.
That’s great news about your language skills. I never studied Spanish but I do hear a lot spoken around here. My 3 yrs of German class in high school kept me busy enough, haha. Good luck with your seminar plans, sounds great

Mick, no one can stop you from conjuring up new jobs - am I right? It all sounds wonderful but don’t forget to let yourself heal a bit, OK?
Sounds like that black kitten might be needing a new friend, just saying

Slo, hope your day was decent. Hello Pie!

              Have a nice night all.

                Re: 29th October

I was up by 0430 today too!

That’s good mama cat found the kittens in their sensible place, Lav.

You said yes to the dog in Minnesota, TG?! Too bad Pilots & Paws can’t bring her to you!
Good luck on your long day today.

I think some warm wood above the window will look good, and will tie in nicely with the fireplace surround, Mick.
Thanks for an education in the Scottish “language”.

Is your Spanish class online, Wags? So it’s a go for the seminar at the university! That’s some expansion into a new avenue for your business.

I enjoyed spending the day at home today, pacing myself, instead of chasing around up to D1’s house.
I put in my “resignation” with Huxley too, and will no longer have him all day on Mondays come December. I took care of him when he needed me, as a young newborn and baby, when he most needed 1:1 care. And, when he started daycare, I kept him out of that icky home daycare that he didn’t like, for one of the days per week. But now he’s in a good day care that he likes, and he’s a big sturdy boy who can walk and eat real food and say a few words (“Mama”, “Dada”, “uh-oh”, and “e-i-e-i-e-i-o”!), and he’ll be better served by running around with other little kids in a stimulating environment.

Lav, stirring the water bowl water seems like an odd symptom of the cats’ anesthesia. Apparently a common one though! At least for Bob & Dave.

                  Re: 29th October

I find it disturbing that alcohol has become tied in with Trick or Treating too, Pie. It used to never be that way! It was strictly about the kids and candy! Then, by the time of my youngest daughter’s childhood, parents were starting to go around with the kids with a cooler of booze in the wagon for the adults. And parents at the door were giving away shortie beers for the parents and candy for the kids.

I ended up at the local police station last year (something about paperwork for my dog bite), and two older women concerned citizens were earnestly reporting to the police station about booze being given out by a home when kids were trick or treating. They were appalled, thought this was terrible for the kids to see, and needed the police to know! The person behind the counter, a mid-30’s -aged mother, thought it was weird that they were complaining, as, to her, that’s just how Halloween is done! Different generations…

Nevertheless, the blonde continued to look at him a very long time, thinking deeply about what he had said.

                        Re: 29th October

MAE ALL...had a fairly decent sleep last night, the typical, 4 hrs sleep, 2 hrs awake, 2 hrs sleep. The decongestant seems to help but I can sure tell when it wears off. Went in this morning, boss had posted he's working 1-9pm today so I left around 1:30pm. I think I'm over the hump and should be ok for tomorrow. Boss is supplying lunch so I should show up. LOL

TG...hope you made it through your long day yesterday ok. Oh, I'm so excited for you pushing the send button.

Wags...things seem to be going your way. How nice that you were able to have some personal time. I always admire people who can learn a second language, I barely made it through the mandatory French classes before I could drop the course.

Mick...the cushions look great and I agree about the rug. I think the distressed piece above the window will tie the room in nicely.

Lav...I was wondering how you managed to get the kittens into the garage and then I read you kidnapped them. LOL There is still snow around, which won't be going anywhere, but at least the roads are bare and dry for now. Light snow over the weekend then a bit of warming next week but I think this is it, winter is here. We turn our clocks back on Saturday, or I could wait till Sunday like Mick. Did you get your hard freeze last night?

Slo...I'm glad you enjoyed your day home yesterday, no more stress getting everything organized. I think the decision you made is going to be good for everyone.

My eyes are starting to burn again so it's time to shut the laptop down and maybe get a nap in. Hope you all have a good night....:smile:PPQP

                          Hey friends,

Why is this week going so fast? Geez I feel like I’m running but not keeping up haha!
Well i felt better that the kittens had a warmish place to sleep last night. Took some food out to the garage this morning which they ate quickly. Then later when I was thinking it’s lunchtime & I should refill their bowl I found the garage empty. Mama cat moved them outside again. I found them hanging out in my lavender garden right up against the house so at least they didn’t go back to the log pile. I think they’re wearing me out.

Mick, whatever the problem with the site was this morning seems to be fixed, until the next time Lol
These cats sure do hallucinate, it’s hysterical really. He gets a pain pill for 3 mornings then he’s done. Bob is doing just fine
Hope the storm has left the area by now.

PQ, hope it’s just a regular old common cold & you’re back to 100% soon.
Apparently I’m a pretty good kitten- naper so if you ever need help just let me know haha!

Slo, leave it to me to end up with goofy cats, haha! I’m glad to hear you’re clearing your babysitting schedule. You’re right that the kids are big enough now to handle daycare. They’ll learn a lot there too getting them ready for preschool & kindergarten. Get a new hobby going to keep you occupied during the winter weather months, something fun

Hellos going out to Cyn, Pie, Wags & everyone dropping by tonight.

                          Have a good night all!

                            Mae all,

So great to read about everyone's projects and how they are going. I am fighting off a cold, but had some homeopathic stuff lying around ready to be used, so I'm hoping that will do the trick. I should of known when I woke up and was SO lethargic. But we'll see ... I'm supposed to work 11 to 7 tomorrow, same 8 hours, but feels more "normal"!

Lav, it does sound like you are exhausting yourself on behalf of the kittens! Lucky them, you gave them a cozier sleep for at least 1 night. I hope YB's pain issues are coming around. And I hope the "boys" stop acting crazy... tho the videos of the water fascination are cute!

Mick, hmmmm, did you really get at least 5 minutes of sitting time into your day? Sounds like you are perpetual motion! I'm sure everything will be perfect in your "new" room - sometimes these things take time...

SLO - that's crazy, adults drinking on Halloween. I'm so glad that I live in an apartment building... I didn't give the little kids a second thought - I think the complex had a party for them or something... it was waaaaaay too cold for trick-or-treaters here that night. Glad you are celebrating your independence! I hope the "assists" are helping you.

Wags - congrats on all your exciting news on opportunities for the future of you teaching. You GO!

Pie - thanks for sharing all the ideas and good thoughts. How are the rescues doing? I admire your great work in that field.

Fly - maybe try the recommended Twitter action to get some attention for your flight stuff. At you'll be able to get it off your chest!

Okay, my runny nose and I are going to bed. Hoping that this clears up overnight - I really don't want to call in sick... I'm off to take a warm mineral bath before bed...

Cheers and best wishes to all - apologies if I missed anyone -
                            TG

Lav - your week is going fast, while mine is going slow. I thought Wed was Thu almost all day long! It *felt* like that many days had passed. Glad the kittens are in the garage and that Bob is home. That's funny about the water bowl.

TG and PQ - hope you both feel better pronto!

Mick and Slo - I'm learning Spanish mostly for my own interests, and the course is online. Daily lessons on video with homework, and then 2 sessions per week with a language coach. Mine lives in Argentina. We start on Monday! I love to travel and I tend to gravitate toward countries in Latin America, so Spanish is most helpful. Also many Spanish-speaking friends and neighbors. I learned French in high school and can still read it somewhat but lost any ability to speak it. That'll come next once my Spanish is super solid. I've dabbled in Japanese but that's a whole different ball game in terms of challenge and practice.

Pie - good to see you. Hope all is well with you.

Hellos and waves to anyone I missed. Happy Fridays everyone!
