    Re: 19th Nov ...

    Hi, troops:

My baby daughter will be here from college in about an hour! Yay!

Banana nut muffins made with maple syrup sounds yummy, Lav. I have a cornbread recipe that uses maple syrup.
D2 & her HB are just big on fruits & veggies; which is fine, but they are not very calorie-dense for a growing boy. And baby cereal is very pass? in this generation of parents. They do not believe in it. So I have been giving Huxley baby rice cereal (sometimes oatmeal) -an organic kind and without additives from Germany -since he could eat solids. And I sweeten it too! -with maple syrup (plus bananas and milk and hot water). He gobbles it right up! Well, his weight & growth was lagging quite a bit on the growth charts as an infant, so I wanted to beef him up on my day with him. And I give him water with -gasp! -apple juice (that sugar they didn’t want him to have!), so that he gets enough fluids in. I get some meat into him too, on my day, so that he gets some good protein in.

TG, here’s a quote from social media: “Going to Trader Joe’s the week before Thanksgiving is like a suburban middle class Hunger Games”. (!)

PQ, I like how you spelled it out for me that you are “heating up” some clam chowder soup -not scooping clams out of their shells, and making a roux!

Speaking of soup, that leek & lentil soup of Mick’s sounds good to me.

Wags, I wouldn’t bother with much posting until you are over the hump.

I really enjoyed my afternoon with my cousin at the pool, while her 11-year-old son swam. Luckily her 2-year-old and her HB didn’t end up coming (flat tire snafu), so we had plenty of time to visit. She’s in the middle of a long fight with her mom though (Young Aunt). They aren’t speaking. I tried to explain as best as I could where I thought her mother was coming from, so as to hopefully engender understanding and hopefully resolution someday. I kind of accidentally got in the middle, as an informant of what her mother and sis-in-law are doing for Thanksgiving. Oops! She broached how horribly dysfunctional the family that our mothers grew up in had to have been. So she sees it too! Anyways, nice one-on-one time. And talks about the Swimming World too.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the U.S.! I’m heading to my little sister & BIL’s house tomorrow.

      Re: 19th Nov ...

      Good evening everyone,

I'm not cooking Thanksgiving dinner until Saturday, haha! My daughter is going to her BIL's tomorrow, then to NJ on Friday for a funeral so all that was left was Saturday. it's all good, I really couldn't care less what day we eat turkey. Our son's birthday is Saturday but we can't invite him over because of his wife's rotten attitude. No one wants to be around her at this point, I know I sure don't.

Slo, I would feed any of those kids what they like & need. young parents are so weird these days. glad you enjoyed seeing your cousin. So the family dysfunction hits most of us sooner or later. enjoy your day at your sister's.

Mick, no more ladder work in the rain - PLEASE!! I get nervous just hearing about it buddy.
I've come to the conclusion that the smallest kitten in that litter has asthma. You can definitely hear an expiratory wheeze & a dry cough. I need to get her to the vet for some meds. she's happy & playful otherwise. no one seems to be interested in taking them off my hands so far, oh boy.

PQ, now that you are an expert on 'pierogie' how were they?? Lol
Hope the snow hasn't turned out to be too much. We ended up with nearly 2" of rain yesterday, cleared most of the pretty red leaves off of my Japanese maple tree.
Sounds like the software guy promised more than he could deliver, typical.

Wags, hope your day wasn't too awful before the long weekend off

Cyn, I hope the crowds are thinning out at TJs at this point. now people can start cooking all the food they've purchased.

Fly, hope you are well, Pie too

Have a nice night all. Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating tomorrow.
Wishing a nice night for all.

        Re: 19th Nov ...

Welp, my whole morning got turned upside down due to a neighbor needing help, so I missed my "MWO post" calendar reminder. I'll try again - I think mornings will generally work better once I get into that routine.

Happy Thanksgiving to those in the U.S. who celebrate it. I have mixed feelings about this holiday and am a vegetarian, so it's definitely not a favorite or a big deal to me personally. I do like having a day to focus EXTRA on being thankful/grateful, but that should also be part of every day IMO.

Over the hump for this week. Catch you all tomorrow!

Mae all - just read back from the last few days? but I am super tired, so this will be brief.
I was at the Cathedral at 7 AM this morning; we made nearly 200 hundred sandwiches and 300 hot meals to be delivered to the homeless population here. The temps are dropping, so it was nice to give them a little early Thanksgiving.

Then I went and got the COVID booster (Pfizer this time)? I went home and had a quick nap then worked my 2 to 10 pm. I was doing fine, but then the last hour my arm started to really hurt? when I got home, I could barely get my work t-shirt off! Yikes!
I just took some Advil and am hoping that will get me through the night?
Glad to hear of everyone?s good news and successes. I?ll try to write tomorrow - I have no idea what the day holds, will find out.

Big hugs to all over the miles?

MAE ALL...cooled off today but no more snow over night.

            Mick...another cyber post?

Lav...the perogie were good, sometimes it's the simple meals that are best. I'm still trying to get over this stupid cold that my stupid son gave me. It seems to be lingering forever.

Wags...wondered about the morning post, now I know.

TG...my arm was really sore after this last booster as well. I don't usually react to them. It was gone by the morning, hope your sleep isn't interrupted because of it.

Sorry about the short post but I just want to get dinner over with and head to bed. Have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

              Good evening friends,

Saving the turkey for Saturday so today was a pasta dinner day . Mostly sunny here & just the right amount of chilly air for me.

Cyn, my arm was sore for a few days after my last Covid vaccine. Still better than getting the real deal though. Sounds like you’re burning teh candle at both ends, take good care of yourself & don’t skip on the rest

Wags, Happy holidays & I hear you about the whole turkey tradition. I do it for everyone else honestly. I eat very little meat, just don’t like it anymore.
I hope everything is OK with your neighbor.

Well, let me say Hello to Mick, PQ, Pie, Fly & Slo.
I hope everyone has had a good day & night ahead.

                    Re: 19th Nov ...

                    Mae all,

US peeps, happy day after Thanksgiving! Sometimes it feels good to have a holiday be over... or am I just getting terribly jaded? The good part is that my nephew who had such a difficult time last spring is here in town - I'm hoping to have a private convo with him today before he flies back to California...

I think I "pushed the envelope" a little too hard by working a double shift (Homeless Meals + 2 to 10 at TJs) on Wednesday, plus getting my shot. I was in such a terrible brain forg yesterday that I think my poor family was concerned... I had to go back to my apartment to get some things that I had promised to bring to the family dinner! But it was nice afterwards - the family (niece, nephew, nephew's MIL, 3 daughters, etc.) played a card game ((not my thing)) while I washed the pots and pans and cleaned up the kitchen (my thing.) The fog lifted slowly throughout the evening.

Wags, RE: having conversations with dementia patients.... I don't have the date of the article on AARP, but I took down the info: "Theater Artist Anne Basting is on a mission..."... it suggested an entirely new way of making conversations - using imagination and building stories that both you and the elder can contribute to. It sounded very positive about the results - less frustration all around, and making up stories that don't have to be "true or untrue". It was on the AARP email blast recently, but I don't have the date, sorry.

Sending best wishes to all (thx for the pics, Mick, beautiful!) Cheers,
                    TG

Hi Again - Wags, I found the AARP video I referenced above. Just 4 minutes long, but i find it incredibly inspriring!! I hope this gives you some ideas or resources...

                        Re: 19th Nov ...

Greetings! I had a very nice Thanksgiving at my little sister’s house; a small gathering this time, but nice. Got to see those growing niece & nephews that I haven’t seen in awhile, and bond over a couple card games with them. Reconnected with my twin sister too. So good to have time with Young Daughter -she stayed over two nights! Her young cousins and aunts and grandma were so happy to see her again too.

Mick, that bird looks different than our robins! My favorites are photos #2, 3, & 4.

PQ, too bad the software program didn’t work, but at least you could quit fighting with it.

It’s amazing how much you can do, TG! That is a lot all at once though.
Anne Basting: I went to high school with her! She was a year younger than me.

Lav, time to start cooking up your Thanksgiving feast. That’s a shame that you can’t have your son and grandsons over too -like I wish they could come without your DIL!

Wags, they are not raising Huxley as a vegetarian, so I do have permission to include meat in his diet. I hope you had a good day off on Thursday!

                          Re: 19th Nov ...

                          Greetings friends,

Got a lot of prep work done in the kitchen today ahead of our delayed Thanksgiving. I prefer sitting & talking to my dinner guests instead of chopping onions & celery haha!! My daughter informed me that one of her husband’s sister-in-laws had a stroke this morning while attending the funeral of their aunt. Geez, she’s only 50 something, I sure hope she pulls through

Mick, the pics are gorgeous! You’re going to be a pro in no time. Glad the light problem is fixed. Now you can put your ladder & crocs away until next summer; Lol

Cyn, I’m afraid we just don’t have the stamina at this point to work such long hours. I know I ‘think’ I can do something then find out I cannot. Adjusting our activities to a lower level (age appropriate I guess) is what we have to do. I hope you were able to have a chat with your nephew. Take care!

                          PQ, it’s the weekend
I hope it’s a good one & you get a chance to rest up too.

Slo, Pie, Wags & everyone, hope you are all well.
I like the idea of ‘inventing stories’ as you go with the elderly if that seems to please them.

                          Have a nice night all!

MAE ALL…Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate. it seemed to be an extremely long day today. Looking forward to doing nothing this weekend. Our first Christmas Party at the hall and I’m not on call. YAY

Mick…you’re getting really good with that camera. Those pics are amazing. I like the way you just breezed over dropped the torch etc. without going into detail. LOL

TG…I hear you about the holiday being over, you’re not jaded. How great that you can see your nephew, hope you can have that convo. Glad the fog lifted throughout the evening. You take heed and don’t go pushing the envelope.

Slo…sounds like your Thanksgiving was a hit. Yes, it is a shame about the software program, but my stress level dropped dramatically once the decision was made.

Wags…I had a gentleman stop at our Little Free Library. He picks up children’s books for his wife who has dementia. He then writes from “one of the kids” in them and when she reads them, she says Oh look, it’s from so-and-so. I thought that was a great idea.

Lav…of course you’ve got all the prep work done, you’re very organized. That’s sad to hear about the 50 year old’s stroke. Yes! It’s the weekend. Even the boss commented that this was a weird week. I am planning on resting up, like you said to TG, we just don’t have the stamina anymore. I’m still fighting this cold which I’m sure is dragging me down too. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

Waves to Pi & Sam. Have a good night all…:smile:PPQP

                                MAE all -

Sorry I'm so hit or miss with posting these days. It seems as if I just get past one situation or challenge and then another comes around. Now my dad is sick It's not covid, but he's really tired and has been sleeping almost all of the time. I'm going to see him tomorrow, and I'm in touch with his Dr - if she can't go see him, I'm going to take him to urgent care. I just wish I had some help. I'm getting at least somewhat of an understanding of how difficult it is to be a single parent.

I'll try to get back on here tomorrow, but honestly I might take a few days off posting. I feel bad that I'm so wiped out by the time I get here that I'm not responding to everyone individually and I'm also not great at remembering who has said what. I want to show up fully and I might be better able to do that if I take a short break.

I hope you all are doing well. Thank you for your understanding. If I'm not back here tomorrow I promise to check in within the next week or so.
