Jan14
Hello everyone and how are we today? Hope everyone is doing well full stop another cold day today temperature this morning was minus four degrees for stop at least it is dry so fingers crossed we will get away tomorrow. I have still got to fill the water up but I will do that in the morning just to make sure it doesn't freeze. Julie will take the rabbits down first thing, whilst I get the rest of the van ready. Looking forward to getting away for a little while, it is a while since the van has had a run out for stop was going to go metal detecting today, but far too cold plus the ground was frozen. Hope everyone is having a decent weekend take care and look after yourselvesaf since the fourth of July 2012...howzat then America..now proudly marching into year 12 -
Re: Jan14
Hi friends,
Thanks for the start up, Mick. What?s your getaway destination?
Winter weather here too as arctic air finally arrives to Texas. Forecast says just a couple of days below freezing; should be fine unless power grid fails. Out of the woods by Wednesday, hopefully.
Lots of juggling with my volunteer work for rescue and for condo association. Not complaining; it?s all stuff that I enjoy. Two new surrenders of elderly dogs. A 15 year old who?s staying with me, and a 19 year old who?s gone to another foster home. The back stories on both are very sad, but I?ll spare the details for now.
Waves to Lav, PQ, Slo, TG and others stopping by.

Re: Jan14
G’day!
Remind me, where are you going, Mick? Hopefully south and out of the cold.
Yes, this is something at this age watching mates die. People who you don’t expect to die early, do! I’m reeling with it too. You’re right that we must make the most of the time we have, cuz you never know.
Lav, time with an old friend IS just what you needed. I’m spending time up with daughter’s little family for a few days now -just what I need too.
Yes, PQ; this is my first time up at D1’s house since October. I did see them over Christmas, at my place. Thankfully it’s the weekend, so my son-in-law is home too. He is so good with the kids, and also with keeping the whole house running. He cooks, does dishes, does lots of laundry, vacuums, repairs things, shovels, gets the kids dressed, does Mabel’s hair, bundles the kids and takes them out to play, takes the kids with him shopping, gets them ready for bed…he’s a keeper!
I came up so they could go out to dinner last night for their anniversary.
TG, hope all is well with you too.
Pie, my power failed Friday evening, until late Saturday afternoon. It was a good time to get out of Dodge. Luckily it got restored before the deep freeze.
My 16-year-old cat is at the “pet hotel”. He’s puking there, instead of all over my carpet.
Stay warm, my friends.Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: Jan14
Greetings everyone,
It’s below freezing here AND windy too knocking over the big rolling trash cans. We’re expecting measurable snow on Tuesday. Had a few squalls today.
Nothing to do outside so after food shopping this morning I just stayed inside. Found a really good banana bread recipe that uses no processed sugar. It was sweetened with good maple syrup. Yum Here’s the link if you’re interested: Healthy Banana Bread Recipe - Cookie and Kate
Mick, I wish you a wonderful & safe trip this week. Hope the weather is decent for you too!
Pie, arctic air in Texas? How cold does it get?
I feel so sorry for elderly pets, especially when their owners die & leave them behind. They’re lucky to have you
The wind knocked our power out this afternoon but it was back in a few minutes. That was unusual.
Slo, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend with the grandkids. Your son-in-law sounds a lot like mine, very capable & helpful.
YB’s elder cat (unknown age) is doing a lot less puking these days. Keeping my fingers crossed haha! I hope Boyd is relaxing at the hotel.
Hello to Cyn, PQ & everyone.
Wishing a nice night for all!

Re: Jan14
Mae all,
Well I got through this amazing 3-day blizzard (walking to work) and now we?re on 90 + hours of below zero weather. But once the high winds and snow stopped and the sun came out, everything is good. I am little extra-tired from the snowy walks and 4 consecutive days of work, and just got home from taking dinner to my elder friend, but all is well.
I have fresh flowers that I got safely home from work; they were a little damaged by traveling at cold temps but have revived nicely. (Someone will have to coach me on adding pics to my post.)
Mick, best of luck and have fun on your trip!
SLO, glad you are enjoying a break.
LAV, glad that you did not experience flooding. I love that banana bread recipe, and I have enjoyed that site also.
PIE, so sorry about those pups. Bless you for your service to them. I will be checking out volunteer work with the local humane society when the weather here calms down. I am passionate about helping elder dogs.
Okay all. stay safe and warm!

Re: Jan14
mae all...how are we doing today then? hope all is well.We made the decision this morning not to go away in the van despite everything being ready to go.Apart from the really cold weather -4 last night ..We have temps this week of up to -6 plus there is a heavy snow warning around here for Wednesday onwards .bearing in mind where we live and the height above sea level you can always take 2 degrees off .so the roads may be ok down the hill but to get home and put the van on the drive I have 3 sharp corners to take and a gradual incline from the main road ..in bad weather its pretty hard to negotiate in a car and at times impossible .and had to leave my car in the village ..I cant do that with the van ..so no go ..no show .
hiya pie ...how are you ? apart from being a saint for rescues I honestly dont know how you do it ..I couldnt foster them ..Id end up keeping them all!!
hiya teegee ..wow look at you trundling through the snow ...and then taking dinner to a friend ...bless you ..it depends whether you are downloading pics from a phone or a laptop ,,,and also would it be an android or i phone?
hiya Lav ...what are you doing sending snow over here?Yep the plans are stymied but tbh I am not sure in this lot it would have been too good for her majesty .weve just put it on hold till the weather sorts itself out .you stay nice n toasty in the snow ..Glad the puking pussy is on the mend ..
Oh no so you have the vominting varmint do you Slo ..we were just going local for this one ..next decent hasul is London ...and then after that the south coast of ingerland .Your sil...sounds like a good one ..glad the power cut is sorted .

Re: Jan14
MAE ALL...man it's been brutal out there. Saturday "they" issued an alert saying the grid is overloaded and if we don't cut back on consumption we're headed for rolling black outs. Amazingly people heeded the call and almost instantly consumption dropped so no black outs. I did think about going out an unplugging my car but that didn't happen. The cold broke today, we actually got up to -13C. Felt like a heatwave. With the warmer temps comes snow, starting tomorrow night and carrying through till Wednesday. Of course that's the day I have to drive to my eye appointment.
Mick...sorry to hear you've changed your mind about getting away but I fully understand why. I didn't know downloading made a difference between iphone and android.
Pi...and the rescuing never stops. Good for you taking in another older dog, I'm sure they thrive with you. I'm glad you don't have to deal with deep freezes.
Slo...that was mighty nice of you to babysit so D1 and hubby could go out for their anniversary. I'm glad SIL is one of the good ones. Glad your power came back on. It was perfect timing with you and Boyd not being home.
Lav...so you're getting the snow tomorrow too eh? They're calling for up to 15cm/6inches so not too bad. Going to dip back down to -20C as well and then consistently warm up through to the weekend. I don't know why this cold event seemed so hard to deal with. They think it has something to do with the Vortex winds. Oh well, I'm glad it's letting up for now.
TG...I think it's the wind that's the hardest to deal with. We got down to -50C/-58F. You are a brave one walking to and from work. Glad your flowers survived.
Time to get the lasagna into the oven and relax. Have a good night all...:smile:PPQP

Re: Jan14
Hey all!
I tried to get on the site a few hours ago but couldn’t so I thought I’d try again after posting on Messenger. As I explained there I had to make an emergency trip to the dentist today. Ended up having the tooth in question extracted, ugh. I was up at 4 am in severe pain so I thought it had better go.
It started snowing around noon & it’s still snowing now, maybe 2-4” they are saying.
Pie, it’s currently 23 degrees here with a nasty wind chill. I’m not going anywhere tonight, that’s for sure. I hope you & your doggies are are nice & cozy!
Cyn, that banana bread turned out nice & moist. I made it with oat flour so it’s easy on the tummy too.
Hope you’re getting some good rest today after your work stretch. Stay warm!!
Mick, sorry you had to cancel your trip but it was likely a good idea. Better. Safe than sorry for sure.
I’m happy to share our first real snow in 2 years with you haha!!!
PQ, these extreme weather events are just ridiculous & downright dangerous. Keep yourself safe & warm friend!
Slo, I got on here after all. I’ve added yo to our Messenger group just in case we have problems in the future. Hope you’re having lots of kid fun.
Hello to everyone else & have a nice night all!

Re: Jan14
mae all how are we doing today then ? hope all is well.as I said on messenger ..good move not going ...snow on the ground already and its not stopping .much as the snow is aesthetically pleasing..its a pain to drive around in .Yesterday was a belter of a day .We had looked at moving the outside rabbit hutch which is now repurposed as storage for bikes gas bottles etcIn effect the rabbits have traded their outside lodgings for internal ok the view may not be the same but the inside service is much better ..food on call ...heating ..maid and butler service protection from the elements .Anyway madam decided it needed moving so ...gas bottles out bikes out tolls out floor out moved it ..and the call was ...no it looked better where it was ...so back it went ...Can you guess the naughty words children?Temp last night before I went to bed ..in the conservatory was minus 1.
Rabbits are up and feeding ...next to the radiator.
hiya Lav ...just read about the dental trip....on antibiotics now......ok quick puzzle for you ....1.30 3.30 4.30 5.30 6.30 7.30 8.30 9.30 10.30.11.30 12.30.. easy innit..Ive never had banana bread ..hope you have a pain free day ..
this is yours I believe?the snow that is!! it is a bit heavier now this was early doors ..just tried to put pics yup..it wont let me .
hiya ppqp...how are you doing ...so you have an overloaded grid system?you be careful going to your eye appointment in that mad weather ...didnt know your car was leccy .hope you have a good day ..
hiya everyone else..hope we are all ok ...it wont letme add jokes either ..in fact no additions ...af since the fourth of July 2012...howzat then America..now proudly marching into year 12

Re: Jan14
Good morning!
Ouch, Lav! -bummer about the tooth pain, and loss of the tooth.
Good call on staying put, Mick. There will be other trips soon.
Madam put you through a lot of unnecessary work with the old rabbit hutch!
Pie, I was home when the power went out, but it wasn’t cold out yet -barely cold enough to snow -and I just went to bed early. Then packed up the next morning and left.
Today I need to drive home in the deep freeze, and it’s really bad out there. It’s in the negatives Fahrenheit, with a Real Feel of -28, and windy.
Thankfully everyone cooperated with sharing the power in Alberta, PQ. Yikes! That would be very dangerous if your power grid failed in those temps.
TG, yes, walking through snow takes more exertion! Hopefully you sleep well as a result of all the exercise at work, and walking to & from work.
I have had lots of Cooper snuggles. He’s such a cute baby! And it’s fun to watch Mabel & Beckett play together, and read stories to my Mabel.
Well, we’re all struggling with the same frigid Winter weather. Good luck to us today!Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: Jan14
Greetings friends,
Feeling much better today after getting rid of that old tooth yesterday. I wasn’t able to sleep last night but not due to pain. Went to bed at 11:30 & was wide awake by 3:30 a, ugh. Finally gave up at 5:15 & just started my day, Lol. I think I confused all the animals too. The snow looks pretty but there’s a layer of. Ice on everything & it’s going down to 10 degrees tonight so I’m staying inside. Here’s that link for the banana bread. I used maple syrup instead of honey & added some chopped walnuts, really good . Healthy Banana Bread Recipe - Cookie and Kate
Mick, bake a banana bread & tell me what yo think. It’s delicious & this one is healthier without all the processed sugar.
So what happened to 2:30? Haha. Sorry you had to move all that stuff then put it all back. Sounds like something I’d do haha!!! Enjoy your snow!
Slo, I hope you’re trip wasn’t too bad today. I trust myself driving in this weather but I don’t trust others. Most of them don’t have a clue how drive on ice & snow. Glad you got to enjoy the grandbabies
Hello to PQ, Cyn, Pie & everyone stopping by tonight.

Re: Jan14
Mae all,
I had my intake for the Long-COVID clinic today - about a thousand (timed) questions - matching things, remembering sequences,,etc. My brain is seriously worn out. But I talked myself into getting dinner up to my elder friend?s before I took my coat off at home, so she?s got a nice lasagna dinner to heat up for tonight.
My ?homeless meals? work is tomorrow, and I plan to take the bus ? all the streets here are still snow-covered, and there are crazy foolish drivers out there? not worth dodging them all the way to downtown.
So I?m off to an early sleep.
Glad to hear that the heat is still on for all. Sorry about the chilly weather? this too shall pass (eventually!)
Stay warm, be well, take care,
Cheers,
TG

Re: Jan14
You have to sleep well with all the work you do, TG! Is the lasagna for your elder from Trader Joe’s ? PQ had lasagna the other night, too.
I made it home in the deep freeze from my daughter’s house yesterday, and got Boyd picked up. The roads were the iciest that direction; getting home from the pet hotel.
Boyd is happy as can be now that I got him a heating pad. He stays on it all the time.
Mabel & Beckett sure are silly when they play hide & seek! They hide in the same place over & over again, and often in plain sight. And can’t stand the suspense, so call out their hiding place right away! Such little sillies. It’s a magical age when so young.
I needed time with people and a family. Now my heart is full again.
I’m going to try that banana bread recipe, Lav! As soon as I get some ripe bananas.
Pie, I have learned that there is a program to match senior pets with senior people. That’s a perfect match.
How are things at the community centre, PQ?
Wishing everyone a great AF day!Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.
