hiya Lav how are you doing ? hope all is well.I was curious as to why so many Germans went to the yoosa ..it turns out ...conflict unemployment and religious persecution .the I rish for the same reason

    .Irish and German Immigration [ushistory.org]

have a read of this you can also click forward and backards .it really is interesting reading .Looking at the garden ..I put 40 primroses in ...and they are lost in the garden So far this year thats 40 primroses ,14 gladioli and 24 tulips ..so we shall see .Playing around with the camera yesterday .

Hiya teegee ..sorry to hear about your bike getting pinched ...sounds like someone wanting a bike to get home ..how are you feeling today? hope all is well with you ..still jittery ..You should have told the dibble when they pulled you over that you were helping the environment saving electricity..or perhaps not best to keep schtum...you are right tee tree oil is good for burns i t helps prevent /reduce scarring as I recall? am I right Lav ?you take care anyway .

    Re: 4th Feb

We are unseasonably warm & sunny here, and it’s not blowing a hooly either!
I hope your headache went away, Mick.
That’s amazing feather details on that fat pigeon.

My lovely, snuggly Young Daughter did turn up on Friday evening, for a sleepover and then breakfast together. Then I went to her swim meet. Ex-HB’s girlfriend & I exchanged a cursory nod, so I guess we met.

Tea trree oil is a good antiseptic, and should help keep the burn from scarring too much.
I guess if you get another bike, then you’ll have to keep it inside your apartment, TG. Such a bother. Unless you’re on the first floor -then not too much of a bother.
I drive with my lights off if the automatic setting for my lights to turn on when it’s dark out has accidentally been turned off.
I leave early Thursday morning for Puerto Rico, and return on Monday.

PQ, you & YB seem to be alternating weeks for cataract surgery!
It would be hard to know what month it is when working in a business that needs to forecast ahead all the time into the upcoming seasons!

I got my first altered shoe back from the cobbler (1/2 inch or 12mm extra thickness put into the left sole), and dropped off one more shoe to get done before he retires. Now to get my orthotics altered to accommodate this!

Lav, I forgot to use my grounding mat the night before last, but then slept on it last night and slept much better!

    Happy Sundays to all.

      Good evening friends,

Nice & sunny & dry today - no complaints for a change
Since the surgery center is > an hour away we took a test run today to find it in the daylight. Good thing we did too because it was very hard to find even in the daylight. So I guess we’re all ready for a 5:15 launch Wednesday morning. He has to go back the next day for a postop check then the other eye will be done on the 22nd.

Cyn, I was sorry to read about your bike being stolen. It’s sad so many a$$holes live amongst us decent people.
I’ve always used Vitamin E oil for skin issues. Just stick a pin in a capsule & squeeze the oil right on the affected area. You should try using paper tape to hold a dry dressing over your arm when you’re at work. It’s good for those of us with sensitive skin. The only time I was ever stopped by the police was one evening when I was driving home from visiting my parents with two little kids sleeping in the back seat. Apparently one of my tail lights was burned out, I had no idea. He just told me to get it fixed & be safe. Good to be safe

Mick, apparently your ground isn’t frozen if you’re digging plants in already, nice. We have to wait quite a while before we can do that.
Your pics are awesome, very detailed. We have doves visiting our bird feeder all the time. They just walk around on the deck cleaning up all the seeds the other birds have sloppily knocked out, haha. In addition to the Irish & German folk arriving here to work we also got tons of Italians. They seemed to stay in the big cities though, not farmers & ranchers. We can’t forget all the labor provided by the enslaved people too. I’ve always considered that to be a huge blemish in our history I hope you’re not coming don with some viral thing, headache is often the first sign for me.

Slo, I imagine the girlfriend was a tad uncomfortable too, oh well, haha. Glad it wasn’t a bad scene for you.
I hope the shoe alterations work out for you, sounds like quite a hassle. Hope you find perfect weather in PR for your stay, sounds like fun.
I have become totally hooked on my grounding mat, LOL it really does make a huge difference don’t you think?

Hello to Pie & everyone else.
Wishing a good night for all.

good morning all..how are we today?hope all is good with everyone .still blowing a hooley but not quite as fierce .Ground isnt frozen ,in fact its more muddy now because of the rain..its still too wet to do any work out in the garden..I need to redo the sides of the raised beds and and the fencing but it isnt right for that yet .

hiya Lav ...nice and sunny? what ? good job on the practice run on finding the surgery .the last thing you want is going round in circles on the day with traffic all over the place .One of the feeders I have is covered so that the pigeons cant get into it and give the little birds a chance ...so what they do is push the outside to spill the seed and pick it up off the floor .
Again ,Italian immigration was fuelled by poverty unemployment and violence...plus the fact all the provinces that we call Italy now fell under the one flag .One of the reasons the Italians tended to migrate to the cities and create them ..was the initial experiences of when they landed at Ellis Island ..there wee so many hoops and criteria they had to jump through that they stayed where they were and built up cities and areas New York city Brooklyn etc ..
again a really interesting article ...your history isnt as old ass ours ..nor dare I say as chequered with religious persecution etc .but it is really interesting .

        Just a moment...

headache not as bad this morning ...take care .

Slo ..another one with balmy weather ...weve got barmy weather..interesting that you met the g/f ..I guess that was a bit awkward .sounds like you had a good weekend with daughter .best of luck with the shoes ..

hiya everyone else hope all is good .

Me: "Sorry boss can’t come in today my car has broken down".
        Boss: "What about the bus?"
        Me: "I don’t have a bus".

I’m looking to sell all my glove puppets.
A collector phoned and offered me ?200 to take them off my hands...

So my friend said she'd got a job in a bowling alley.
        I said: "Tenpin?"
        She said: "No, it's permanent".

          Re: 4th Feb

          Greetings all,

Still having the mostly sunny weather & temps above freezing, yay!
Used my zippy little Cuisinart oven to bake up a turkey meatloaf & some baked potatoes for dinner, yum. I have to be bright & cheerful by 8 am because my new sofa is being delivered. That’s getting harder & harder to do at this age, haha! Anyway, I’ll be ready!

Mick, there’s also a huge Italian settlement in South Philadelphia. The outdoor Italian market used to be fun to go to once in a while. Now I don’t want to go to any part of that city anymore. Things have changed, sadly. Let’s also not forget about the eastern Europeans that flooded in at the turn of the century, including my grandfather. They came & worked in coal mines up in the northern part of our state & the shipyards in Philly & Chester. Everyone came for the ‘freedoms’, look at us now. I guess there’s really no perfect place to live anywhere in the world. Better hold off on the gardening for just a bit. I know we will likely have more snow before this winter is over.

Hello to PQ, Cyn, Pie, Slo & everyone stopping by tonight.
          Have a good night all!

            Re: 4th Feb

MAE ALL...it started snowing Saturday and continued all day Sunday. Internet/cable was on/off all day Sunday so ended up doing a lot of reading. Wasn't going out there for anything. Ended up with about 2ft of snow, it really depended on where you live, but it was the light fluffy stuff so cleaning off the car wasn't too bad, just took awhile. The boss is replacing our broken 35yr old gas stove with a new one tomorrow morning 8:30am. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out as they have to bring it through the hall and there is a class in there at 9:15. I just don't know about his scheduling skills.

TG...sorry to hear about your bike and then getting stopped by the cops. It doesn't even matter if you've done nothing wrong it's stressful. Glad you got home safe and sound. No surgeries ATM, just lots of Dr. visit/procedures. 1 down and 2 to go.

Slo...good for you meeting the g/f and no drama. It must have been nice to have your daughter overnight. No cataract surgery for me yet. Ophthalmologist says it isn't time yet. I'll go back and see him in May as see what it looks like then. Bet you can't wait to head out on Thursday.

Mick...great pics, especially the pigeon. Was that windy thingy actually turning? You captured it perfectly. Glad your headache eased off a bit today. The ground over here is definitely frozen, at least it stopped snowing. That's a lot of planting already this year.

Lav...I've often done the test drive to an appointment to make sure I know where I'm going. It's such a bummer that you have to turn around and go back the next day, at least it shouldn't be that early in the morning. Surprisingly it was sunny here today as well, it wasn't supposed to be. We're hovering around the freezing mark so the temps aren't bad, it just adds to the pile of slush that ends up freezing over night. Oooh a new sofa, upstairs or down? I need a new one but I'll wait and get one when I move out, whenever that is.

Shout out to all the rest. Have a good nigh...:smile:PPQP

              Mae all,
Thank you for the tips about burns. it is a real challenge to carry boxes at work and not rub the burn site. last night I awakened with pain, but in the end I think it was the tiny bit of adhesive I had to leave on the bandage. Just took it off and all seemed well. Figured out a way to protect it better at work today, but this evening it is a little red and swollen around the site. I will watch it carefully tomorrow. Sheesh.
Mick, such great pics! And just hearing about your gardening plans is so heartening!
SLO, good to hear you are making progress with the shoes, good luck. Wonderful that the grounding mat helps.
PPQ, hoping the boss plan worked! Sorry about the snow, but glad it wasn?t heavy.
Lav, what an excellent idea to check things out ahead. And I hope you like your new sofa! Is it from somewhere special?
Well, I?m to bed. just finished prepping everything for my 5:30 AM walk out the door to work. Hoping for more healing overnight.
              Wishing all well,
              TG

mae all..how are things today?over here it is blowing even more than 2 hooleys it is really windy and raining and to top that there is a snow warning on the way didnt sleep too well last night ..Bonnie wasnt well..went into the conservatory she was lying flat out...listless .even let me pick her up.Fortunately I had some medication ....metacam ,emepride and cisapide from Jeeves ..ok out of date but nevertheless ..syringed her and also gave her 3 syringes of water ..massaged her stomach which wasnt distended..3 hrs later she started to come round ...4 hours later she was bouncing around.Overnight beteween them they ate a pile of hay .
Checked this morning she is fine ..going down to see my brother this weekend ...he has got some serious surgery coming up .

hiya teegee,,glad the burn is on the mend,,5.30 out of the door ? wow ,Yes I am enjoying the camera ..trouble is the weather is so bad you cant really get out Same goes with the garden!you take care

hiya ppqp...snow?have you still got it there?has the boss changed the stove or work in progress?yep that wind turbine ...(I remembered the name!) was whizzing round like mad .we are replacing some of the tiles in the bathroom with pictorial tiles of a kingfisher etc ..so some of the tiles have to come out and degrout and regrout the rest of the wall.....long boring job ..

hiya Lav turkey meatloaf...what do you think of the new thing you sit on sofa?hope its ok ..yes when you look at it everyone came from everywhere to evade persecution and poverty ...the land of the free and the streets paved with gold ..which may have been ok in its day but generational attitudes social attitudes and everything else has kind of upset the applecart ..so yes I agree with you ...a lot of places that were desirable pretty and "good places"are now just havens of unemployment criminality and more ..I hate to use the word ghetto because of its connotations to the past but you get my drift .

anyway you have a nice day in the sun!!

big hello to everyone else .

I found stir fry all over my bed this morning.
I must have been sleep wokking again.

My mate Dave said to me that everyone at work is talking behind his back! I said of course they are Dave you’re a cab driver!!

                  Good evening friends,

YB got a call that his OR time is scheduled a bit later so we don’t have to leave here until 9:30 tomorrow morning, thank the gods haha! Wasn’t looking forward to getting up to get ready, feed animals, & drive in the middle of the night Lol. The sun is still here, it’s chilly but fine for February.

PQ, I hate going without power during a storm, 2 ft is a lot of snow!!! Glad you were able to get around OK. How did the gas stove delivery go?
The new sofa is actually a sleeper sofa so we have more space for overnight guests. It came from the one & only furniture store in town. They were having a good sale so I thought, why not?

Cyn, if all else fails go to the drug store & ask for silvadene cream for your arm. It’s the old go to for burns, worked like a charm. Maybe you can wrap some gauze around your arm to keep a dressing in place & provide some extra cushioning/protection especially while at work. I hope it heals up quickly for you.

Mick, sorry you’re stuck in storm mode. Not a good time for gardening, I’m afraid.
Glad you were able to take care on Bonnies stomach issue, it’s always something. I hope your brother is OK, when will he have his surgery?
I suppose every large city has it’s woes, we just need to find a better way to address them. Poverty & poo`r education certainly lead to crime, no doubt in my mind. We all need to do better I think.

Slo, I guess you’re getting ready for your trip to PR, cool. Ihope it’s a fun & relaxing trip

Hello to Pie & everyone dropping by tonight.

                    Mae all -
Quick checkin, as i have a long day tomorrow. Early off to do the homeless meals, the rest and then go work from 2 to10 pm. Never have had to do that backtoback shift before, but oh well. I?m traveling over the weekend, so things got a little squished in the schedule.

Arm is about the same, maybe a little less red, still weeping a little. The doctor said there would be a scar, and he was right.oh well . I wasn?t entering any beauty pageants anyway.

Mick, so glad you could get Bonnie feeling better! Lav, was the surgery today? i hope all went well. Thx for the option of the cream you mentioned. i might have to do that.
Here?s hoping all is well with everyone else. Gotta stop typing now on the ipad... wishing all well.

MAE ALL...overcast and freezing fog for most of the day. It was only -5 but the wind was brutal. Looks like we're in for the same tomorrow. Glad to announce the old stove is out and the new one is in. Boss did admit that he completely forgot about the rental in the hall this morning. She's been here for 30 years and just went with the flow. Sectioned off half the hall so they could do the stove switch and the class went ahead in privacy.

TG...I hope the burn heals quickly for you, sounds like you're doing all the right things. Hope you had a better sleep and more healing but geeze, 5:30am out the door!!!

Mick...so glad you had the supplies need to help Bonnie without having to head to the vets. Yup, the snow will be around for awhile, we got a pile of snow but nothing like the east, they got over 4ft. Hope that snow warning is wrong and the weather improves for your trip to see your brother. I can't believe you're taking on re-tiling the bathroom. You just never stop do you. Just thought about your new neighbours, how's that going?

Lav...saw your light on earlier so thought I'd wait till you posted. Great news about not having to leave so early in the morning for YB's surgery. You just can't pass up a bargain and I'm sure the sofa will come in mighty handy. I've got an appointment with a skin/nail dermatologist sometime this month and for the life of me can't find the phone/email appointment booking. It's in a part of the city I'm not familiar with so will do the trial run.

Shout out to everyone. Have a good night...:smile:PPQP

                          Good evening friends,

All went well today & we were back home before 1:30 pm! YB swears there was no pain, of course there was local anesthetic & twilight anesthesia involved Lol. I told him on the way home to follow the postop instructions carefully or I would tie his a$$ to a chair. He knows I mean it too haha! He goes back for a check tomorrow but it’s just at a local office. I think with the next surgery I’m going to drop him off & go hit a shopping center I spied near there. I hate sitting in waiting rooms doing nothing that long.

Cyn, I know you’re still at work, I hope it’s going well. Keep protecting that burn while you’re out & about. Don’t worry about scars, we all have them, honestly. Take good care.

PQ, sounds pretty cold in your neighborhood, geez stay warm.
Good the stove delivery went well considering haha. I guess it’s due to my age but I really need to know where I’m going & exactly how I’m getting there. Traffic is too freaking crazy these days to go out without a driving plan. I actually found an even better route to get home today & that made me happy. Do you use your GPS on your phone to help with directions? Very helpful when it works, haha!

Mick, I hope you & your friend had a nice day with your cameras. There’s always something new to learn when you keep an open mind

Mick...hope your bimble was a good one and you got lots of pictures and learned some new tricks.

Lav...good to hear the trip was a success and home in good time. Glad the post op check is local. Good plan on checking out the shopping center next time. At least you've got an idea of how long it's going to be now. I have used the GPS on my phone but only after I've mapped it all out on my own. There is so much road construction in the city I wouldn't trust it.

                              Hola,

I often like uneventful days too, PQ.
At least Boss admitted that he forgot to factor in scheduled events when having the new stove delivered. And the renter rolled with it.
I misread something you wrote as though one cataract surgery was down and one to go. I was wondering how I missed it!

I agree to keep the burn padded and wrapped while at work, TG. They have those nonstick gauze pads now, that could go directly over the burn as a base layer.
At least now scabs are kept moist, so they heal better with less scarring.
Good luck with the back-to-back volunteer work and work tomorrow. That’s a lot!

Where does the new sofa go, Lav? Turkey meatloaf & baked potatoes sounds like a fine dinner. I like meatloaf sandwiches too with the leftovers.
That’s good that YB landed in a favorable spot in the final surgery schedule! Glad that all went well.

Mick, that was a fascinating article about Irish and German immigration to U.S., and where and why they settled where they did.
I guess rabbits are prone to digestive problems. Nice that you could fix Bonnie up pronto.
I’m having digestive problems too -a duodenal ulcer. I’m seeing a naturopathic chiropractor kinesiologist guy who is helping me to heal it.
Perfect to go out photographing with a fellow camera enthusiast, and learn new things right on the spot.
I was wondering if Julie was still working on her dollhouse!

I’ll be up early tomorrow, and out the door to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico!
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.
