I am new and little nervous...

Hmmm... interesting comments re: your insurance records & the Topa...my doc subscribed it about a week ago but my insurance company balked at paying. I was so eager to start that I paid the $140 out of pocket, but I was going to call doc and see if he could assist. The insurance co. sent me a letter asking the reason for the prescription. I assume they would cover it if I had epilespy, but what about migraines? (Not that I would ask my doc to lie about it...I guess...) Can you share a bit more of your thoughts about not having Topa (for problem drinking) on your records? I am probably sounding a bit naive...
Speaking of working out -- off to the gym for me!
Oh, one more question -- what is the cost online for a perscription? (thanks to all for info!)

Berkely Girl -- Wow I am your long lost twin -- one of 7 kids (I am number 6) alcoholism runs in the family (sorry about your siblings -- I am so sorry about your brother) I am so close with my sibs!
Now for work -- I have a boss that mirrors yours & like you my drinking has escalted this past year -- everyday it gets worse as she (my boss) tries to micromanage everything and picks and chooses what she wants to do & expects me to bring up the rear!!! UGH!!!!
I want to win the LOTTERY!!!
But, like you, I am tired of feeling like garbage & am also am capable of producing and making contruibutions to work.
So, finally I said to myself that alcohol is not helping this situation. I am starting Day 3 and moving into the weekend... I'll be checking in alot hopefully you will too! Good Luck! Baby

Thanks BabyGirl. You are right, we are twins! I am number 2 of 7. The key thing you said is that "am tired of feeling like garbage & am also am capable of producing". I know I am currently underachieving (for me) and have been for some time. I have the choice to either keep drinking and smoking every evening or writing/relaxing (I have a book that has stalled for a couple of years now). Despite knowing only I can make a positive choice, I keep choosing to drink/smoke every evening and rationalizing that it is okay to relax (I am not very good at relaxing anyway).

                BG,
Maybe you are procrastinating the reading/writing for some reason and can replace that with something else you might be more interested in right now that would take the place of drinking. I don't know just a suggestion. I am so glad to see so many people are here and talking in Mod's land. It's been really quiet here lately and it's nice to have company.

Hey , it amazes me that you have three or four a day, but dont talk about binging and having trouble stopping. thats what my problem is. so u dont have the blackouts often, the getting sloppy drunk? if not it really seems that you could definitely be a person who could moderate easily, especially with taking the supplements.. im sure you'll be fine! good luck

Can't be 100% certain but sure seems very timely & suspicious - within hours of ordering my 1st 'toprimate' from the aclepsa.com website my credit card information was stolen and used to charge nearly $1000 worth of goods to Thailand. This is the only time I have used my credit card on line.

Fortunately, the credit card company caught it immediately & canceled my card. I have tried several times to communicate with ACLEPSA to obtain further information regarding their security methods in place etc - to no avail. They can not supply me with any answers - I just get runarounds. They do not appear to have any up to date standard security encryption methods, no pay pal, or any other secure method of payment. I would be very cautious using them. They may have been ok in the past but just a warning to be aware.

Ladyslipper, that sucks! So glad the credit card co caught that.
                      Kinda scarey huh.
My Hubby used to gamble online with his credit card.(poker) That always scared the heck out of me.
So glad they shut that down in this state!

                      Thanks for the warning.

well, actually I have noticed that I do have occasions where I drink more than 4 (on the weekends) and I am definitely having trouble stopping the daily grind of 3.

I am new and little nervous...

you sound like me berkely girl

I'm new as well, and trying to find my way in this path I've stumbled upon. I'm 39, and have found my "drinks per day" slowly rising over the past few years... when you live alone, I think you start entertaining yourself, and vino sure helps. So now, in this place in between - not liking where it is heading, but not wanting to let go of the enjoyment factor. It doesn't help being single at this age because drinking is a big part of the social scene. So I'm trying to find a good, comfortable and natural spot where I feel like me, but don't focus all of my entertainment around alcohol. I have not been totally successful in listening to the cds, the topomax seems to have "slowed down" the craving (although some part of me seems to rebel against that?) - and I keep hearing that 2 weeks of abstaining is important. Any advice from anyone would be appreciated by this new, slightly rebellious, but good-hearted soul.

                            Hi Bluswat & :welcome:
I also take topa. Have been for almost 2 yrs now. It has really helped me.
In addition to that, getting regular exercise helps tremendously. I drink a lot of water too. Try & drink a glass of water in between each glass of wine you allow yourself, you'll be thankful for it later, (like the next day) forever....
I also take 500 - 1000mg of L-glutamine per day, milk thistle, and a vitamineral green powder.
Have you read RJ's book? It's great & you can order it online @ the health store from the main page here or down load it.

Again welcome aboard. I think you'll like it here!

Thanks so much for responding. Yes, I have read RJ's book - that's where I started, and became very interested in the program. I also have been taking all of the supplements.

I have not been taking the L-glutamine - what does that seem to help?

Have you found that the topo makes your brain scramble?

Welcome Bluswat, I am also taking Topa, Lglut, Gaba and Kudzu as well as a few other things.

Topa hasn't made my brain scramble yet. I am on 75mg and holding steady. The Lglut is excellent for the cravings. You can even open the capsule and sprinkle some under your tongue if the cravings get bad. It comes in powder form as well.

                                Glad you are here!
