    what is moderation

    how do you objectively determine moderation? drinks per hour? pocket breathalyzer? I want to try moderation, but dont want to be able to play games with myself (for example 5 beers before midnight and 5 more before 1 am is only 5 beers a day )

    Six beers over a couple of hours just barely buzzes me now, whereas the same rate would have made me sloppy drunk some years ago. So what is a level for me I can consider moderation?

    Also, how many nites per week should be completely dry to be "moderate"??

    any thoughts appreciated.

    Hi and WELCOME Way Out.................I think you need to feel this out for yourself, have you read the book? I think it says moderate for men is 2 drinks and for women is 1?? Don't know as I lent my book out and am still waiting for it..............think that is what it says though .............BUT for me, I think 3 beers (maybe 2, ok) is moderate for me................ I feel good in the AM, yet get that relaxation of chillin out w/ a beer
    Overdid it slightly in Vegas, so am starting AF tomorrow as I don't want to go cold turkey tonight (might do something like kill my husband or something........JUST KIDDING

    You will get lots of good advise here, don't listen to everything if you don't agree, take what you can use and leave the rest of it (that is my point of view anyway )

      Hiya Wayout! It seems different to everybody....as was drinking days..... For me, I drank a glass every day for years - and then loads of glasses....hmmm! Some people binged at the weekend or a few times a week....not for me....I might have thrown up!! (My terror!)

      To me, one drink a day is just fine.....people have done it for years....but it is just ONE realistically sized drink - not doubled/extra strength for effect or anything. Be honest about this!

      I did 106 days AF before even daring a tiny drop of wine. I mix it with sparking water and only ever have a 175ml small glass - to me it is, "One glass or no glass"... I will not have spirits and keep the wine to 11-12% ones only - some are like torpedo jiuce nowdays! (And no nicer so why bother....)

      I just don't want any more - and I don't want to want any more!.... but that's just how it is working for me....one glass before supper (but if I am out at an evening course or something, I don't have it/don't want it) After supper it tastes like poo and I pay attention to that taste....and sometimes even throw the last bit away!

      So, not saying that is the way at all!! Just thought I'd put how it is for me down in case it helps any!

      Good luck to you.....certainly one thing I will say is what was said to me: get at least 90 days AF under your belt for the necessary changes to take place...with less it can go wrong and leave you believing you will never moderate successfully....which might be the case, but give yourself the best chance!!
