    NEW MODDERS

Thanks Betts, I've been away on holiday and just seen your reply. I am still waiting for the topomax! I was hoping it would be here by the time I got back. I have been struggling to moderate, have cut down a lot, but not as much as I want to. I have the supplements, hypnosis CD, etc.

      NEW MODDERS

      Hi 3bottles,
I've been on Topa for over 2 years now (low dose 100 mg a day)
But yes, I do take L-glutamine. I really think it helps a lot.

I take 500mg in the AM. I also take another 5oomg if I'm going out for a special occasion. You can also buy it in the capsule form & pour it under your tongue (if you want), if you have a super stronge craving & are abstaining.

I've taken 1000mg caps as well with no problems.(L-glut)

      Hope that helps.

        NEW MODDERS

Hi Keke: I am new to the program. Have started supplements, but have not received the book or CD's. I have done well so far. Saturday night, I had 3/4 of a beer, AF on Sunday, two glasses of red wine last night. Did not even get a buzz. My husband is amazed. I really have not had a craving. Just enjoyed relaxing last night. If I can conquer my insomnia, I will be a happy person. Nice to meet you. Kay

            NEW MODDERS

            Hi all -

I'm about to start modding after completing my 30 days AF Friday. Thanks for posting your dosages of the Topamax etc. I am considering starting on that as well. Big weekend planned but SO is very supportive so think I'll be fine.

Nice to see this thread though...very helpful!

              NEW MODDERS

Hey everyone, This modding thing is a little more difficult than I thought. Have cut down on number of days drinking, but still have trouble with only having one or two. I can't say the resolve is really there when I do decide to drink (need to work on that). I'm going to try the L-Glut thing. Mostly doing all-in-one and low dose topa - 50mgs. Thinking about going off the topa as I think it is making me congested and tired. Will try saline for a week, then Flonase to see if I can work around it (per doctor's suggestion). The good new is i found out I'm not allergic to much, so that's one less pill I have to take. I just have a hypersensitive nose!!!! Hopefully, once this congestion gets under controll, I'll have some energy back. I do like not being hung over most of the week even if I am a little tired. Thanks for posting. Keke P.S. St. Jude: I was is Portland a couple of weeks ago and it is absolutely gorgeous, albeit a little chilly. What a nice area to live in.

                NEW MODDERS

                Hi there,

I was searching for a thread like this one. It looks like it's been a while since some of you have been here.

I came to this site about 3 weeks ago. After reading a lot of posts I bought some kudzu which cut my cravings for AL in a huge way. I began moderating for the next 2 weeks. I have a wonderfully supportive husband, a couple local friends lending their support, and this forum.

I next purchased the book, read it and became convinced that I should follow the program exactly for the best results. I got all the supps, organized them just as RJ suggested, got topamax from my dr, got the cds, made an exercise plan, and decided to do 30 days AF. I began the full blown plan on Sunday, so this is day 4, and I feel great!

Treeman and Carmac (sorry if I missed anyone) made posts that they are now successfully moderating after a 30 day AF time. These are the "stories" I need to hear and read about right now. This is the encouragement I really need from this forum in my journey. RJ states in the MWO book, "Prepare to change your life". The hypnotherapist says "you are entering a new phase of your life". I feel it. I want it. I am going to do it.

                  NEW MODDERS

Hello all ---- I've been posting on ODAT and trying to be AF as much as possible. My goal is to be able to moderate my drinking like a "normal" person. When I would have a couple of glasses of wine when out for dinner, I'd feel like, well you've got to start your count over anyway ... doesn't matter if you have one glass or 10 ... so I'd continue drinking. Last night however, after 2 glasses of wine with dinner out I came home and was tempted to open a bottle but didn't. Told myself a "normal" person would be finished drinking now that dinner was over.... so I made myself a cup of tea and was very happy and proud that I did stop there.
So I'm planning on counting a different way to add incentive to stop at the 2 glasses..... I'm going to count AF/Mod days together, as in this is day 5AF/mod for me ... or 4AF/1Mod.... not sure what will be easier to keep track of.
I think it's what I need at this point to keep me from going beyond a couple of glasses and feeling like I've failed again.
Do Moderaters keep track or not?

                    NEW MODDERS

                    New Day,
You could consider joining the Mod Squad, under Long Term Moderation. Not many post here under short term for various reasons. People do count different ways. I have found that counting my total (not consecutive) AF days per month was way more effective than counting number of drinks per day.

Whatever you decide to count, I would recommend using Drink Tracker. I and others find this permanant and public record very motivating. A serving is 5 oz. of wine, 1 bottle = 5 glasses.

I too learned to drink tea instead of wine, but I currently find flavored seltzer water in a wine glass even more satisfying.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.

Thanks Sunbeam --- I will check out the Mod Squad.... haven't even looked at Long term Moderation, since I'm not long term. ... and the drinktracker.... thanks again. I did notice this isn't a very active forum.

                        NEW MODDERS

                        Keke,
I've been serious about modding since 9/2/8 and am really doing quite well with it. SO nice to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine in an evening, one with dinner (s.l.o.w.l.y.) and one after dinner as a nightcap.
Great to wake up without the h.o. or the questions in my head of "What did I do?" "What did I say?" "Is my husband mad at me?"
                        Welcome.

                          NEW MODDERS

                          Hi Modders,
I'm new here, and just posted an introduction, but someone read it and directed me here. I've been struggling a lot with the question of whether or not moderation is possible for me. I've certainly tried in the past, many times, and failed. Since July, I've drunk very little...alcohol free except for three or four "slips", and those were relatively moderate...1-4 drinks. I am a little afraid to be here, wondering if I'm fooling myself and should comit to a goal of abstinence. But I want to give moderation another try. I'm taking Kudzu and have been listening to the CDs. I tried the All One and felt so sick after I drank it mixed with tomato juice, I could barely choke it down. But if you all say it really helps, I will try again. I read Roberta Jewell's book a while back, and I'll re-read it.

I am not going to drink again until I come up with some clear rules for myself. If I can't keep to them, I'm afraid I'll need to go for abstinence. This looks like a great site...I'm going to have a look around.
"When she enjoyed her drinking she couldn't control it, and when she controlled it, she couldn't enjoy it." (from The Big Book)

                            Welcome getting better.
Check out some of the very interesting posts on the long term moderating board. A new one just got started "Post you moderating..." and I started one called "Moderating is so subjective". Both threads have tons of interesting mod sharing.
We have a great mod support group here. I for one am hoping I can mod but am still struggling if it's possible for me. ODAT as they say.
                            Welcome to the mod squad!
                            Hugs,

Found this post from last year and it is interesting that I started at a similar time. Mental state is better this time around and I am a little more diligent about the supps but otherwise things are very similar. i hadn't realized there were so many people out there in the same situation with alcohol. Keke,
Thanks for your posts. It really helps to see someone actually make moderation work. To just stop, at one anything, no matter what else is in the house calling me is my goal.
Gonna look for the af 4 days thread.
