Baclofen was a nightmare, any other ideas?

    Hi everyone,

I am wanting to moderate my drinking and tried Baclofen - wrong choice there. It works so well for a lot of people and I was full of hope. All it did for me was turn me into a zombie that drank.

I have read recently that certain herbs can help with cravings, The one I read about is called Nux Vomica, has anyone used this and if so, does it help? It says it also helps detoxify more effectively.

I am reluctant to take medications unsupervised (although I have no problem pouring vast quantites of alcohol down my throat on a regular basis - crazy) Anyway, just wondering how others here may have moderated without prescription drugs. Also a lot of them are not allowed into Oz.

I also need to change my attitude. If I cant drink for some reason, like I have to drive etc, i get the sooks, Im like a kid who missed out on the candy. I hate that poor bugger me attitude. I think if i could change that attitude to a more positive one, I would be half way there. I try to, but the thought of not being able to drink terrifies me.

    Hi Trixibelle,
Have you tried Kudzu and /or Lglutamine?
I found both of those helped with my craving so much. However, my intention was to go AF which I have been for over a year, but I do believe that these can help with moderation too.
I know what you mean about getting stroppy if it was my turn to drive :-)
I think Nux Vomica is a homeopathic remedy?

        Hi there

Everything you wrote will sound very familiar to people here.
For your attitude, I recommend the book EasyWay to Control (or stop) Drinking by Alan Carr. Also, don't think of this as a life sentence. Best to take it one day at a time or one week or one month at a time.

Good luck with the moderation thing. I hope it works better for you than it has for me. I also must do the whole AF thing. It is scary, and i need to stop lookin so far into the future and take it one day at a time. Otherwise it freaks my bean.

          AF since 04th May 2010
Fell overboard on the 8th July!
My worst mistake was thinking that what i did wasn't that bad.

I second the L-Glut recommendation. get it in powder form (vs pills) its MUCH cheaper and works better. You can usually find it near the protein powder in the health section of a large discount store. It's pretty amazing with the cravings. Works for cravings for sweets, too.
