    Here goes ..

I have been really rubbish at this for the last 3 weeks - haven't had single AF free day.

I'm starting today to try to be AF in the week and moderate at weekends.

I'm gonna do this, tonight is going to be so hard work though. Any tips would be great.

    Hi Cheeks,
I'm rubbish at most things but seem to be slowly cracking this AF/Mod thing. But then it's only been a week and a half so it's way too early to say!. I'm managing AF at home on my own which is my main danger area and had a nice glass of wine with a meal a friend cooked on Saturday...like a 'normal' person! which is my main aim for the long term future.

Are you doing it on your own or with supps, topa, CDs etc?

First thing is not to be too hard on yourself. You are here which is huge. You will know when the time is right to cut down or just stop. You will feel it, you will know. I have not been able to eliminate alcohol completely however I have been able to cut down substantially and wake up feeling great. It takes time. Be easy on yourself.

Main thing is to take it one day at a time and work on breaking those habits. Each day you dont drink and you find something else to do, you are creating a new habit, fixing your brain a bit and creating a new life. Think of each day as a new journey/day to fix your brain chemistry. That is what I have been telling myself and its really working. We take these vitamins and supplements each day, knowing that they are, each day we take them, helping our brains - so think of not drinking the same way. Each day you dont drink, your brain cells are repairing, the natural "feel good" chemicals are regenerating - its a process right?
Anyways I am going on and on. The point is that you have to just work on breaking the habits. And once you do that it becomes much easier.
I used to not be able to do more than one day AF. Honest, I used to break after one day every time. NEVER made it past day 2. Now, I am going all the week days AF regularly. And its not that hard. Sure, I get the twinge of thinking "It would be nice to have a drink" but its manageable. So it can be done.
Good luck to you - keep posting!

Don't give up or give in, you can do it. Jenneh is right your brain needs a break and so does your body. It will be okay soon.

            Thanx for being so supportive.

Cravins already started but not giving in yet. I'm not using supplements yet but might try them at some point.

              Jenneh,
That's a great perspective, and its so TRUE! I dont know why I havent been telling myself that all along....

I'm going to keep that in the forefront of my mind as I can tell that line of thinking will really help me. I am ALL about helping out my brain cells these days!

              Thanx!

                Hi Cheeks,

I'm in the Midlands too, so we're almost neighbours :H

I started by gradually reducing the amount and gradually started drinking later, and after 2 months went AF, I'm now on my 10 th day, and am feeling soooo much better, You CAN do it :goodjob:

I spend a lot of time on here when I get cravings, reading the stories both good and bad really manage to motivate me.

                Love & Hugs, Paula :h :l

                  Hi

Well done Paula. That's really great.

I'm looking forward too feeling better. Been feeling lethargic lately with all the red wine I have been drinking.

                    Great Job Paula!

Cheeks, Jen is right on about breaking the habit. Once you break the habit the thought crosses your mind occasionally but not so much and not too hard to remember how great you felt in the morning. You can do this!!

Hi, cheeks, you cheeky little ....
And here you thought that you could not do it. Oh yes, you can. I am so proud of you. Please believe me, every day gets a little easier. I am on day 11 for the second time. This time I have a better attitude, I am a lot more humble and grateful for the gift of sobriety. I am liking myself more and you will see once that happens, there is no stopping you. Congrats again sweetie.
