wow -- definitely sounds like I had an allergic reaction then. I've never had a reaction to anything that felt like an itching burning sunburn. However, I too have gotten MUCh more allergic to bee/ wasps as I've gotten older. I was stung four or five times growing up, and other than it just hurting, no reaction. Years passed and I was never stung again. Then about three years ago I was working in my yard and digging a flower bed around a tree and accidently hit a ground hornet next. I never even saw them but I got stung four times in about one second. It was incredibly painful and somehow they flew up my clothes and I couldnt get them out, so of course I was screaming and stripping and going completely bezerk in my backyard. My neighbor's yard man is probably still laughing, but I swear I almost died from that. My husband had just left to go get another load of mulch from Home Depot and the kids were not home. My body swelled twice its size and I had had welps the size of golf balls popping up all over me. By the time my husband got home I was hallucinating. He had NO idea what had happened to me and rushed me to the ER. They later told me they had never seen anyone with that bad of a reaction who did not have their airway close up. The doctor told me it was a miracle I didnt suffocate and die. I really believe in guardian angels and mi was holding my lungs open that day! So I do carry Epi-Pen and I absolutely freak out at the very site of any type of bee, wasp or hornet. I was told even with Epi-Pen, some people do not survive and each time you are stung its worse. I prayed for more guardian angels since then and I think I've got them!

Mary are you saying that you reacted to shrimp once, but then never did again? Maybe I will be so fortunate....

        Hello to all the muffins!

It has been a very hectic day and have not had time to pop in....Where the heck is Fan!!??

Allie, Vegas sounds like a blast...everyone recommends "O", which is at the Bellagio Hotel..you'll have to tell us all about it.

Today is another AF day for me, I have a presentation tomorrow bright and early at the State Hospital (mental hospital) can't appear to be a potential client...

Last night was tough being AF, got home to no electricity, kids were acting hyper, couldn't come here online, and hubby made a comment, "we will have to check into a hotel"..I instantly visualize "mimibar"...then electricity came back on and it was late and kids still had homework to do..I was grouchy...but, somehow I managed to steer clear of the liquor cabinet which has my wine in it so...I am now straining my arm to pat myself on the back
Sometimes I wonder...."Why is that frisbee getting bigger?"...and then it hits me.

PP, you should be patting yourself on the back. Funny comment about looking like a client.

PP, I am patting you on the back too!!!

Allie, I do not like hearing that an Epi-Pen might not work all of the time. Arghh!!! Something more for me to worry about with hubby. We actually have discussed going to the local ER, eating shrimp in the parking lot to see if he truly has an allergy because he does not want to believe it either. But don't think I am up for the drama if he has an anaphylactic reaction. Your bee story is so scary and I am glad you came out it okay.

Hi to all you Muffins (from the Canadian woods - NOT).
Just wanted to drop in and wish everyone a good day. Allie, as far as allergies go, one can use a certain cosmetic all life long and one day, all of a sudden, your immune system turns on you. That also goes for food. I had an episode with exposure to Minwax stains. (Love to refinish furniture). I was itchy, but did not know what from. So I kept using the stains and sometimes even without gloves. Then all hell broke loose. I swelled up everywhere. There was no time to get me to the hospital, so the Dr. administered a shot of "Adrenaline-somethingorother" right on the spot. Apparently it prevented my throat from closing completely. Hell, that was scary. Minwax in any shape or form is now banned from my house.

Really, it is nothing to take lightly.
Well, just thought I ad my 2 pennys worth.
              Lori

Allie, NOOOOOO, I did not have shrimp in that quiche so DON'T push your luck on that. Yes, my reaction was more like sunburn but only that one time. I assumed since it happened about ten minutes after lunch it had to be that quiche.

Here is a weird one, my ex was allergic to sesame oil. When we were out one time, he pulled sesame seeds off the bun he had but apparently that was not enough. Couple bites into it his lips swelled and he couldn't breathe. Supposedly all these things are familial but the boys are fine with bees and wasps . . .so far and they can eat sesame seeds and oil, which I use a lot in Chinese cooking now that I am not married to their dad any more. Sorry about your bee story. I was 8, sting in my little finger of left hand, by the time I got inside to my mom, about a minute or so, my whole arm was swollen and I was having trouble breathing. My mom had my dad's kit for bees and used it on me, then took me to the hospital. For not so serious allergies but ones that are making it tough to breathe I have found Benedryl liquid works faster than tablets. Triple antibiotic ointment is also a no-no for me as of 8 years ago.

I am with you Lush, I too do not want to hear that the Epi-pen doesn't always work. Please do not test the shrimp in the parking lot with him.

PP - potential client - too funny! Yes, you deserve even more than pats on the back. It is times like that where you learn you have the strength and then the next morning comes the pride with having walked past that liquor cabinet. YEAH!!!!

Lori, yes why is that all of a sudden you can't be by whatever???? Minwax huh? sorry that happened.

                Keep breathing everyone!!

Grrr! I just lost a whole post! Hate that!
                  OK, summary-
As an RN, y'all are right. Definitely get and keep an Epi-pen nearby. When you need to use it, keep the possibility of a trip to the ER in mind.
I've been drinking way too much late at night, then eating too. (Food helps absorb the alcohol and prevents a bad hangover, right?). So, I stay up way too late, eat too much, do things on my computer that I can't remember doing the next morning, feel sh*tty the next day. Where's the upside to this? I'm not even feeling that motivated!
It's supposed to get down into the "teens" tonight here, so first thought is bundling up, watching movies with my daughters and my wine...Habits die hard.
My 19 y.o. daughter is picking up her friend today at the airport. She's going to live with us for a month, before they both go back to college. For the second semester of this program they're doing, they intern someplace in the world. My daughter's going to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She'll be working at a B&B/resaurant for room & board and going to art school. Her friend is going to Australia (not sure what she'll be doing yet). So, keep an out for her, you Aussies! She's a wild one, too, so should fit right in.:H :moon:
E-I sent you a PM. So glad to "see" you here, even if you're not in a good space right now. You know we're all here for you, if that helps. You can call me anytime...
Lush-My prayers for your husband's friend. I'm so glad he can be with him. Prayers for comfort.
Jenneh-Good luck with the baby-makers. Hope they've slowed down, too.
Rachele-I wish I could pat myself on the back! Way to go!! (right past the liquor cabinet). Pat Away!
                  FAN-Dude!?
To all-love you and thanks for being here.

My six year old was stung by a bee this past summer at school. She had been stung (I think) one other time and nothing terrible happened to her. This time the school office called and said " no emergency but your daughter has been stung by a bee" She's just in kindergarted so I went and picked her up because she had been crying. The sting didn't look too bad but I kept an eye on it. That evening in was very, very swollen, hard and hot to the touch so we called the pediatrician. They said to give her some benedryl and tylenol and just watch it.

The next morning she got out of bed and I looked at it and nearly fainted! She was blistered horribly! I called the doctor and rushed her right over......she had second degree burns from the heat reaction! We now keep an epi pen at school and at home. I had never seen anything like it and don't ever want to again.

Day 3 AF for me! But tomorrow is Friday so I will indulge but I will moderate.

Hawk, it's okay, we all feel disconnected at times.

SM Mary, I miss you! Did you get my PM?

Fsophiah, thank you and SM Mary too, for being a teacher! It's has to be one of the hardest jobs in the world!

We love you, E.....chin up girl.

Jenneh, change is hard isn't it...but well worth the effort.

MKR Mary, you are always so thoughtful and sweet, I wanted to address everyone, in your honor tonight!

Yes, Fan, where the bejeepers are you????????????????

Allie, I am keeping you and your family in my prayers:l

How is our senior, senior member Lush? Did ya like that? Senior, senior member? You deserve a discount around here or something!

Patting you on the back too Precious. It has to be terribly difficult to have it right there and say "no." I have to get rid of it all or I will drink it.

Judie, did your power go out......... Thanks for making me laugh all the time

Wow Lori, does the minwax have a warning label on it? If it doesn't, it should.

Tumadre, I was thinking when I first saw you name today of some of your first posts. You were so scared and frantic. I don't know if you remember the email I sent to you in the very beginning? I'm so glad you are in a better place:goodjob:

                    Nighty Night All,

Hmm, a walk down memory lane-I went back and re-read some early posts, and even logged in under "OnMyWay", my first user name...
Everyone was SO wonderful and welcomed me with open arms. Surprisingly (or not), it was most of you that are still here today, still talking and working on this horrid thing we all share...But, of course, we share so much more than that now:l
                            Thank you:wave: :groupluv:
