Am I being to hopeful here
I am a newbie to MWO but I do have a prescription for Topa and have ordered the supps. I have been taking 25 mg of Topa each night since last Saturday. This Saturday I go up to 50 mg for a week. I know I drink way too much every night for years, like 20. I have been totally honest with my new psychiatrist as to the amount I drink. When he gave me the prescription, he said he didn't think there would be any improvement until I reached 200mg based on a study he read. He is also an addiction specialist. I know I'm being over eager at 25mg. but I was expecting that my craving and consumption would gradually decrease on the meds and supps. I'd like to get to the point of having 1-2 beers/night. Has anyone seen a decrease before reaching the 200mg point? That seems so far away...Tags: None

Hang in there cwspence! Just think of all the time you put into your habit. Then think about what 4 weeks might bring you? The possibility of freedom from your 20 year long habit.
It is hard to be patient, I do know. You are working toward something really great, and it might be just 3 weeks away! Be proud you are doing this, and stay positive!
Have you checked out the info listed in the MWO Forums pertaining to meds and supps etc? You might find the information you are looking for in there.

Am I being to hopeful here
Hi cw
There have been quite a few people who have found success before the 200 mg mark, probably because of the combo of the supps, the vitamins, the exercise and the support of these boards (which the people in that study didnt have), I personally found the real difference at 175-200 mg - but hang in there - i am sure you will hear quite a few members telling you they found success at much earlier doses - guys, can people help?

CW-
I did not notice any benefits at all when starting at 25 mg, but noticed immediately when I went to 50 mg. Not that I didnt want to drink, but once I started it just did not have NEAR the appeal. For about a week I could not even finish the second glass of wine, which was a MIRACLE. But it did give me some side effects that I didnt like, and I was so draggy, so I stayed at 50 mg for several weeks. After about three weeks, the benefits began to wear off and I started drinking like the "old me" again. So I went up to 75 mg and got immediate benefit again as I had before. But I am very sensitive to the Topa, and I just basically felt like crap 24/7, so I had to cut back to 50 mg, which didnt help me anymore, so I stopped. Its different with everybody. Some people have NO side effects -- in fact many do not. So dont let that discourage you, but I share to say that I got benefits very early.

Thank You Accountable, Jenneh and Allie for your suport!
I have ordered the vitamins and supps and recieved email that they have been shipped. They should be here soon. I can't wait to see what happens Saturday when I go to 50 mg! I really hope I have no bad side effects. So far only a little drouziness(sp). have gone from no exercise to walking 1/2 mile 3-4 times a week. I kicked cigarettes 105 days ago after using a drug called Chantix. I was hoping that Topa would be my alcohol savior drug. I still remain hopeful!

cwspence you are well on your way!
Man, the action you have already taken! Quitting smoking - which is equivalent to a heroin addiction by the way (WAY TO GO!).
Exercising - getting those organs pumping (which flushes out the crap in your system and increases health and self-esteem).
Ordered all of the MWO tools (nutrition for you mind and body)
and... Topamax (which you have already started!).
YOU, are going to do EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have the tools, and obviously the smarts. I have absolutely no doubt you will be just fine!

I am doing the same methos as well, I will let you know when it starts to work for me.It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

Hey CW, :goodjob: &:welcome:
Also keep in mind the topa helps a lot... it's worked wonders for me. But I think one of the most important things is having the mindset. You've "gotta want it". Just set your mind on your what it is you really want and keep working & striving for it. If you don't get it right at first, (most of us don't), just keep at it! Determination & willingness are so important to me, and keep in mind we are "works in progress". It's not like all or nothing/ pass or fail kinda thing.
Again welcome, and best of luck.

PS, Congrats on quiting smoking! Thats great! The only thing worth stealing is a kiss...:flower: zwink:
