Well, Baldrick got the turnip as usual

:upset: Not a happy ferret.... My cunning plan (well, Baldrick is to blame!) failed miserably! For various reasons, which I won't bore you with, I fell off the wagon big time:upset: Thursday 2 bottles wine, Friday 2 bottles wine, Saturday 2 bottles wine - see a pattern emerging here?!! Okay, that's over, so here's the new strategy - moderation DOES NOT WORK FOR ME - am I hearing myself okay?? A question for sweet Paula - you've mentioned a slimming club - do you do Slimming World or Weight Watchers? I have decided to approach Madame Chardonnay from a different direction, I am going to lose the 2 stones and shake that b**ch off my back at the same time - any recommendations from UK guys - there are both organisations in my town, so any input gratefully received.

Sorry to be a failure, but at least I confessed:sorry:
    Thanks guys

HI Terror, you're certainly not a failure love ......

It's slimming world that I do, i've been a consulltant for 10 years now, lost 3 stone after having my daughter & been a consultant ever since. I can't call weight watchers after all it does work, but for me SW is more 'doable' you are never ever hungry if you do it properly & you can incorporate 3 and a half bottles of wine a week into it (if you can moderate).

If you need any more help please ask ....

      Love & Hugs, :h :l :h :l

Thanks Paula - just what I need. Actually the Slimming World club is nearer - well, two streets away, in fact, so no excuse not to get there each week, eh? I did try Slimming World before, but got a bit confused with the Red Day, Green Day routine - however, with my own "personal consultant" how can I go wrong this time, LOL!!!

Thanks again Paula - no wine tonight either, so back on the horse for me!!!:thanks:

Tartan, The red day green thing can be confusing, but trust me it suddenly 'clicks' and once it's in there you will just be fine ..... Lots & lots of food .... yummy, I can share some favourite recipes if you like ....

Please feel to use me as your 'personal consultant' post as many questions as you like, I only need another 92 posts to be a 'senior member' :H

Clock up another post on me then!!

              Hi Paula

Have another post with my compliments - okay - problem now is that Slimming World class around the corner doesn't exist any more, boo hoo - but there is a Weight Watchers just a short bus ride away, 5 mins or so, so if you don't mind, I'll give them a go - free registration at the moment as well and on Monday, so no exuse to change my mind during the week - who said us Jocks were tight-fisted??!!

Thanks again, Paula, appreciate your support as always!

                      fsophiah--

What struck me most about what you wrote was that your mother had a history of being mean to you and nice to everyone else. That can be so crazy making. While I didn't have to deal with this kind of behavior with my own mother, at least in her later years, I have encountered it in work situations where someone was threatened by me or jealous. I now avoid relationships with that dynamic like the plague.

From what you've written about your mother, my hunch is that your mother is not showing age related cognitive decline (written with the license that allows me to diagnose such thing turned against the wall ). She is sharp enough to remember her hurtful words and you truly do not know what transpired between your mother and Mary. Of course, if there are other signs of cognitive loss try to get your mother appropriately evaluated.

It seems that you might to try to do is what I try (and usually fail) to do with my abrasive husband. Try to build a wall around your heart. Know that this is probably an old dynamic that is not reflective of selfishness on your part. I've seen dyads where this interpersonal pattern exists benefit from family therapy but that only works if both people are willing to put the necessary work into it. Sadly for you, it could be that your mother is too comfortable to seek change.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised that if you could hold your ground with your mother without apparent guilt on enough occasions that she would let up a bit on the subtle bullying. Even if she doesn't, count your blessings that you don't have to live with her!

I hope that you have a wonderful holiday weekend celebrating your husband's birthday and that you don't let yourself get mired in worrying about whether you did the right thing in terms of your mother.

                                Judie,

I'm sometimes asked why I leave such large tips. Some number of years ago I twice tried to hold down waitering jobs. Neither one lasted long before the restaurant manager decided that I was hopeless and fired me! What sticks with me years later is how people have no idea how hard it is to wait tables. If parents had been as indifferent to their kids' machinations as they sometimes are today, I'd have ended up in jail!

                                Carry on, Judie!
