    Retreat this weekend

I just thought I'd post something about what I'm up to this coming weekend, because I am excited and really looking forward to it!

Rags and another member posted some info a week or so ago about Buddhism with a link. I followed the links and found myself on a 'Raja Yoga/meditation' website with a beginners retreat camp in the Blue Mountains which is a gorgeous and peaceful spot that lies behind Sydney. The March retreat was all sold so I signed up for a beginners retreat in April. I emailed the administrator and as it turns out, they had just had someone pull out of, so I got a spot for the March camp which is this weekend... Yes!

So, what's the retreat all about? I don't exactly know, apart from the fact that it's Buddhist based, vegetarian, alcohol and smoke free, and we stay in these basic but cute looking rooms that overlook the mountains, and learn the beginners guide to meditation.

My mum and I had been talking a few months ago about going on a health retreat together, and I told her about it yesterday, so she might be joining me on the April one. One of her friends did it and loved it. I arrive Friday afternoon and leave Sunday arvo.

I ordered the 'Complete idiots guide to understanding Buddhism' which arrived today, so I'll be sinking my teeth into that book tonight.

I'm picturing that it'll be very basic style living and way of life over the weekend, which will be refreshing and I'm looking forward to the whole adventure and learning something new.

So, I'll be packing a few (logo free) long skirts and tops, moisturiser (ie no Max Factor!), my running gear-less the ipod, my supps and absolutely leaving the laptop and Blackberry behind! I'll be driving up in the Peugeot cabrioet (Ohhh god, I sound like such a yuppy) for the 90 min drive with the wind in my hair (unless it's raining :H ) and can't wait!

    Retreat this weekend

Oh yeah, and I forgot to add that I am abstaining during the week and mods on weekends, but seeing as it's AF, I'll be AF for 12 days straight. An added bonus for the mind, body and soul.

                    Retreat this weekend

Louise, Yes! It's from that website, and links through to the Australian site, so we're probably doing the same course, just in different countries. How funny! I read the first 2 chapters of the Idiots guide last night and I'm really glad I bought this simplified version to get me started, although mind you I was a bit shocked by the density of the book when it arrived. lol

I have been Atheist since early teens but I can *really* see already how this mods/abs lifestyle change along with Buddhism based enlightenment supports itself.

Another really funny coincidence is that I was chatting on the phone last night with one of my sisters. We haven't caught up for a chat for 8 weeks or so as I've been away etc, so I was filling her in on what I'm up to with MWO, hypno CD's and the retreat. It turns out that 6 weeks ago, she bought a few Buddhism based meditation CD's and she has also been meditating daily and also feeling fabulous for it.

The Dalai Lama (sp?) is coming to Sydney and conducting weekend workshops, which she's booked into (at AU$700/US$600 a weekend! I'll be staying at home) so she's going to it and she is going to book into this beginners retreat weekend (as above) for April too. Considering we were born and raised as Catholic, and have never discussed Buddhism before, it's all very uncanny.

One of my neighbours is into it and a few years ago they designed and built a beautiful house next door all based around her meditation room, which is on the second story and is a corner room with windows facing the direction of the sunrise. It's all so positive, peaceful, uplifting and freeing!

I hope you have a great time on Saturday for your final session. Will you do the next course and do they have retreats in Ireland?

                    Doo
