Questions??
I was a daily drinker of 15 -18+ beer.. I am now on Naltrexone & Celexa, both help. I am currently at 4 -5 when I do drink(mostly just 4) and am not a daily drinker anymore. For me this is moderating. I have a counselor who is anti-med & I do go to AA. If the meds help why does anyone question it when I have repeatedly said my goal is not to be alcohol free but to gain freedom from the 'control' of alcohol?.. I have & am discovering new interests & hobbies almost daily. And the re-adjustment of 'priorities' has been life affirming....just feel I am not getting the support I need from counselor that I need...all feedback is appreciated & welcomed!Tags: None

Questions??
Hi lyn,
I'm sorry I can't offer any advice, I am not able to moderate & have not used those medications.
If you are not comfortable with this counselor is there anyone else you could talk to? How about asking the doc who has ordered your medications?
Hello & welcome trudigoodie!
Glad you found MWO, this is a good place.
It is generally thought that a period of time without alcohol (30 days) is best before thinking about drinking moderately. The best place to start is by downloading the MWO book from the health store here on the site.
Please feel free to visit the Newbies Nest thread in the Just Starting Out section for ongoing support. Wishing you the best

Questions??
Hey lynne, call your insurance company and ask for the names of other counselors. Not everyone is familiar with the medications that can be used for moderation, and some counselors are very anti-medication. Get someone else. If you can't get someone else, hang around here. There are lots of folks who have found there way here; that's why it is MY WAY OUT. You'll have to work hard at it, but it can be done.
Like Lav, I'm abstinent, after many attempts at moderating. I've heard that naltrexone can help a great deal, but I'm not about to start drinking again to try it! I wish you the best in your endeavors.
trudiegoodie, keep reading around here and learn all that you can. I don't know what form your freedom from alcohol will take, but that is something that you will figure out with time. Read and learn.
Meanwhile, :welcome: to both of you!
