Forgot to call my boyfriend, came home at 3am stumbling drunk and stupid. boyfriend is now mad. am hungover
dumb drunken girl has got to put a stop to this
    Help!

    I agree with Janie,
I have made so many promises to myself and always broke them.
Now hopefully I'm learning, so will you.
    Hope you're feeling better now.

Janie and Paula I am not that young but somehow manage to get the energy up when I see those bottles of wine.
I feel much better today. I was completely useless yesterday.
dusting myself off and starting over again.
      thanks for all the support

        Hi,

You have realised something about yourself and obviously learnt from this experience, as long as you keep trying that's all anyone can ask for.

I had no idea how difficult this would be. I've never tried slowing down or quitting before.
I am determined to overcome this, but there is a side of me that is just not collaborating.

I was food shopping today and walking down the streets of lower Manhattan. There is a bar in almost every corner with a happy hour sign and people inside looking happy, it's unbelievably diificult not to go in and have a glass.
I managed to stay away but, really got that feeling like, "wow you are addicted".
are the bars luring me in? or am I just lacking self control?

I know how you feel, I never noticed all the things surrounding me that seemed to be trying to get me to drink...until I really tried to stop/

feels so much better to be here drinking my tea and sharing my thoughts and hopes instead of sitting in some bar slurring away about nothing. .

I think the reality is that addiction is pretty common, but some people are coping better or more functional than those on this site.

when you look at those people in the bars, just think of them as succumbing to the honey trap.

go to a social function and see how many people actually abstain.

i am now thinking to myself, as someone who doesn't do drugs, what would i think about someone who had to smoke pot before doing anything? that would be frowned on in society right? well alcohol is just a legalized drug that is not only accepted but promoted heavily in society.

we have been persuaded that we can't have a good time without it. and if you really start looking around you at "normal drinkers" you see a number of people who are actually dependent, but to a controllable degree, at least for now. eg. some people drinking 8 drinks a night and not getting drunk. a problem? those people who have to have a drink immediately in a social situation. - not a problem?

particularly in places like the UK, heavy and unhealthy drinking is the norm but some people seem to handle it ok.

the sooner we realize we are not that different from everybody else the better i think. we just have a more severe problem. i got these ideas from allen carr's easyway to control alcohol.
