    What do you Drink

Does anyone else find that there are certain types of alcohol (ie wine for instance) that tends to cause you to go overboard?

I am reading this book called The Miracle Method and its premise is "solution focused recovery" ie it looks at what you are doing right and approaches drinking problems from focusing on your successes and not your failures as does traditional recovery programs and most therapies.

Anyway, it asks you to think of times when you were able to keep your drinking under control, ie specific occasions and focus on the who what when where and why of those occasions and try to repeat and model them for the future.

When I went back and did this, I realized that everytime I drank too much and was unable to moderate, it was when I was drinking wine. If a I had a margarita or something else (sorry, but I live in Texas and we drink margaritas with everything), it was much easier to keep under control.

    Any thoughts??

I am fine on the red wine. After a couple of those I am done and fine with it.

Vodka is what truly did me in a few years ago. If I touch the stuff I probably would end up on a major bender. No thanks. I no longer go near the stuff. Even after 5 months I wouldn't tempt fate, I stick with something that I know I can control.

    Interesting stuff. Good thread!

      What do you Drink

      Hi,

I am a huge believer in focusing on the positive strides we are making and not so much on the negative. I will check out that book.

It is wine for me. I do not care for hard liquor or beer at all and can have it surrounding me and still not want a drink.

Martinis, manhattans, the heavy stuff. I have one and I am on my way. And even though they are so powerful, I drink them as fast as a glass of wine. I do much better drinking wine.

During my heaviest drinking times, I stick with vodka. I'll have a glass of wine now and again, but when I get going its always with vodka.

Definitely wine. I lose the rational part of my brain when I uncork a bottle of chardonnay. I'm also going to check out the book. Thanks!

Rum. I am fine with wine especially red wine. I can stop at one glass of red. White wine I am pretty good with. Beer I can stop but the coconut rum and I......it just tastes too good for me to stop I guess.
