What a great thread - this is my NYE reading, and very inspirational, really helping me set up for 2012 - I will turn 50 this year, my divorce will be final and I will begin to live again in an AF world! and there are so many role models for me - this was great reading, thanks so much DG

          DG,
I just reread this entire thread, and am re-bumping it after last night. I remember your journey (and I posted several times over the years). It's also a trip down memory lane with screen names of MWOers who I have not seen in awhile.
Thank you for all your helpful suggestions for me, and others of course.

            Thank you for bumping!
DG you are one hot mama, so wonderful to see those before and after pics. I am still reading but I just wanted to say I'm enjoying following your journey, and I hope every one that is struggling reads this from start to finish.

After urge-surfing both nicotine and alcohol since 3pm today, with the want for alcohol staying with me until after 11pm tonight, I was in serious need of a 'booster'. I felt myself waivering and 'drinking thinking', then I remembered DoggyGirls thread and searched it out. Thank God for you DG. I am full of resolve again - your journey is honest, heartfelt and inspirational. Just thank you. Now I feel ready for tomorrow.

Daisy, CS, Nursie - please know deep down in your hearts that no matter how difficult or even impossible the journey to recovery might feel sometimes, it IS possible and down the line, it gets WAY easier.

I am still astonished at some of the changes that happened for me along the way. Example: As is obvious from my first post, I definitely realized I had a problem but I had very rigid ideas about the solution. (i.e. "AA is not for me" even though I had never even tried it!) I wasn't able to get free until I humbled myself and finally became open minded and willing to go to any lengths to get sober and find a quality life.

I am so grateful to this web site and all it's members, and to the fellowship of AA where I can go get a real life hug (or a loving kick in the pants) whenever I need one. Right this very minute - somewhere in the world - someone is putting the drink down for the last time. No reason it can't be any one of us here at MWO who is still struggling.

LOL the sugar monster grabbed me over a year ago and I've been battling a 15 pound gain!! I'm back on track and determined now though. I should probably journal about that here since it's a similar battle for me as AL used to be (and could be again with one sip).

Good luck to all. If I can do it, you can do it too.

Library Girl, go to page 9 of this thread and you'll see DG's first before-and-after pics. Absolutely amazing, and so brave of her to post pics of her actual self (when most of us were and are rather anonymous). There are later pics as well, but I don't have the exact page. I do think DG's thread is worth reading in its entirety, but the pics are awesome. Thank you so much, Doggygirl, for baring your soul.
