    My NEW Story Starts Here...

Good to see you G-man! :h "Atkins" is a low carb way of eating pioneered by the late Dr. Robert Atkins. I've been eating too much food this weekend, but no sugar so that's progress! (finally)

Lav - hearty congrats to your daughter!!! Good for her continuing on while she can do it with Advanced Standing. She'll be done in no time!!

I had a bit of a light bulb moment today. I've been psychologically "hungry" to beat the band for the last couple of days. I know this isn't physical hunger. But I've been eating WAAAAY too much food. Food that would normally, in reasonable quantity be considered low carb. Just WAAAAY too much of it.

Today I felt frustrated and had a case of the effits. I had to go to the grocery store and I decided in advance it would be OK, just for today, (hahahaha) to buy some cookies or something. You know what? I got into the store and that whole idea just didn't appeal to me. I walked down the cookie aisle and just couldn't get excited about a "fix."

Is that progress???? I sure hope so. Maybe less of a need to stuff myself with *anything* will be around the corner.

I'm grateful the thought of drinking just doesn't occur to me any more. Truly a miracle.

I am impressed that the cookie aisle didn't impress you DG

The thought of drinking just doesn't occur to me any more either. I'm grateful that I 'get it' - AL doesn't have any place in my life.

Happy Mothers Day Lav and all MWO Moms!

Things are lining up for me to hopefully finish my internship hours in time to officially graduate the Addiction Studies program in August. Since I have finished all of the classes and am just waiting to finish internhip, the department coordinator asked me and a few other students who are in this same position to participate in the "pinning ceremony" for all the the Health related departments which is a bigger deal even than the actual graduation ceremony. They only do it once a year and it's tomorrow night. The pin for the Addiction Studies graduates is a butterfly. I can't wait! I also recieved my materials from the certification board and after I send them one more piece of paper (along with one more check, of course :H) I will be scheduled to take the certification exam. I think I will try to do that in July. :egad: If I pass, then I will be certified as soon as my graduation is official.

        Time is really flying.

            My NEW Story Starts Here...

            5 years sober today!

And still trying to find myself. Guess that's the way of it.

I went to AA this morning (my home group that I don't get to go to much any more). They had a big surprise for me! My sponsor arranged to go pick up my previous sponsor ("Sister") which was quite an undertaking considering where Sister lives (quite a distance) and her medical conditions which make it challenging for her to get in and out of the car, etc. They had a special fancy 5 year coin for me and a wall hanging that says "I Believe in Miracles." They had me in tears!!! They also gave me a card from the group. They must have been passing it around for days there were so many signature on it. I was beside myself and couldn't stop crying. LOL - usually I talk too much so they sure figured out how to shut me up!

            What a nice celebration.

I can't believe it's been five years. Five sober years. The last time I had five sober years was between the ages of ten and fifteen or so.

Until I found MWO, I couldn't even imagine 5 sober days. 5 sober minutes was hard sometimes. I remember the first 10 day stretch. I was just counting those days and it felt like FOREVER to get from the single digits to the double digits. One minute at a time. I guess when minutes feel like hours, 10 days would seem like an eternity!! Now time just flies by and I can't figure out where it's gone.

I'm grateful for all of you here at My Way Out. I'm grateful for the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. I'm grateful for my home and husband. I'm grateful to be alive and sober.

As my 5 year sober gift to myself, I went ahead and registered for my first two graduate level college classes that I will be starting on August 26. There is absolutely no way I could have considered this 5 years ago.

            Patience is a virtue.

You are such an inspiration, DG!

Congratulations on your 5 wonderful years and thank you for all you've offered on MWO! As I've written to you before, your detailed story was one that helped me believe I could do it, too.

You are going to be a wonderful counselor (look how much practice you've already had here!! ).

Keep that NEW story going, DG -- It is such a good one! :h NS

                    Wow that's great DG.

I too have been accepted for a PG course, I got my degree just as my alcohol intake started becoming a problem. My course is something recovery related, which will allow me to help others too which is a distinct change from my first degree.:goodjob:

It's an amazing journey isn't it?
I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

Pauly! UK! G:h! UW! Free! Lav!! Thank you so much for all the kind words!

UK - my studies are a big change too. From the computer industry into the helping (treatment) industry. Quite a switch. What exactly are you aspiring to do when you graduate?

Lav - I initially thought "coattails" was "cocktails." LOL! The eyesight is the first thing to go. No..the memory is the first thing to go. The eyesight is the second thing I guess!

My veggie garden is as complete as it's going to be as far as the planting. Now to get all those flowers potted...
