    My NEW Story Starts Here...

CS04: Yes, you are right about Trader Joe's and I should have mentioned that. However, they keep their prices down by buying from Mexico, Peru and other South American countries (often it says on the labels where the items come from), so it depends what you're after when you're buying produce. Buying these items doesn't support US farmers and burns a lot of fuel in shipping. Also I don't like the fact that its prepackaged, so you can't choose it yourself and you have to dispose of the packaging, which is often Styrofoam. And, although any organic produce coming into the states is supposed to adhere to the USDA organic standards, who knows how well that is enforced in other countries ... and then there's workers rights ...

Well, thats just me. No judgments here, just pointing out there are more issues than meet the eye. Unfortunately food is political these days. Better to grow your own!!!

      My NEW Story Starts Here...

Hello again! Sorry CS and Spotty that I missed your posts over the last day or two. The MWO world spins pretty fast!

CS I used to think it was "far" but now I'm glad to have a Trader Joes about a half hour drive away - lot's of folks don't really have much of an organic option in way further than that!

Spotty you make good points about plastics and packaging. That is something that I don't think enough about (yet). LOL - I AM on the "re-use the bags" wagon, but I will admit that currently, they are plastic bags. I anticipate migrating to canvas type bags in the future. Baby steps, baby steps.

I'm sorry you have had a difficult year. That sucks to matter what the circumstances. I will only pass on to you (and anyone else reading) some wise words that our Chief passed to me when I was struggling in late '07 and early '08. It was just "never the right time" to stop drinking again due to one thing and another - some things more "life serious" than others. He told me that there would never be a better time than right now. And you know what? For me anyway, he was right. There will ALWAYS be a reason to keep drinking if we look for that reason. (and we don't have to look very hard, now do we)

"Nothing in life is so bad that drinking alcohol won't make it worse."

I love that quote. It is true. At least it is true in my world. I have not always been successful holding that truth close to my heart, but I can't even describe how determined I am to stay AF this time. Booze just adds NOTHING positive to my life. Only negative stuff like tension with Mr. Doggy, hangovers, forgetting what I said and did, taking the risk of killing someone with my car and then having to find a way to live with something like that, etc. etc. etc. The "price" to "relax" with alcohol is just too high.

      Anyway...back off the soapbox!

Hello to O2M and I assume a poster Soft Heart? Hope you are having a great day!

DG, Thanks for that, I will add it to my diary in the pages I've reserved for affirmations and the like. Keep up the awesomeness!

              Your story inspired me DoggieGirl

I'm just new here and have been reading through the posts ... your story of July 07 is so inspiring, particularly your stars, one for each AF day. In your July 07 story you were 3 hours into your 11th star. I have just started putting together my plan and I hope you don't mind if I borrow your star reward system. Like you I need to reward myself from time to time and a lovely bright star for each day AF is a wonderful idea. Thank you. :thanks:

So far only * * * * stars, but each day I want to be able to add another.

Thanks again to you and everyone on this wonderful site. Without it I think I would not have gotten my 4 stars.

After being AWAL for months, I came back here to look for some inspiration. My Gosh! I think I found a hero!
DG, I can't tell you how fantastic I think you are. Your strength is the most inspiring thing I've seen in months and months of struggling with the demon...
Thank you for sharing your story and photos.

                      Thanks Marbella and DG
for your good wishes, really is nice knowing people understand how hard it is to get that little star in the box. I'm going to adopt a new saying "A star a day keeps AL away" .. he's been knocking on the door a bit today, but I've locked it and told him to get lost! Will keep myself busy tonight so he can't find me (I WANT THAT STAR) ..
                      thanks again ...

Doggygirl, I just found this thread. What a truly inspiring story of your journey, and your pictures tell it all !! :yougo:

You mentioned you were hoping you could help at least one person, but as far as I can see, you are helping many including myself. This is exactly what I needed. The beast has been hot on my trail since summer, and I can't seem to shake him. I really miss my AF days and I want them back.

Best wishes to you as you continue your journey of freedom !!

Oranges - I like your saying A Star A Day Keeps AL Away. I hope I never forget how hard it was in those early days where just hanging on for another measly AF day meant the world to me. It's a part of the process that we just have to get through in order to reach the part where life starts getting better and better! So you keep hangin' on and don't let AL take one single day away from you. If you are like me, AL has had more than enough days of your life and it's time for YOU!!

USMGirl I remember you! It's good to see you again. Take heart that if I can, you can.

Miss October, I know how that feels to get some good AF time and then make a decision to drink and then it gets difficult again. That's how I know for sure that I cannot drink, at all, ever. I hope you will decide to just suck it up and start your AF time again. Life gets better from there.

                            WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!

                              Doggygirl,
It is always great to hear from you. My life also gets better every day. I chose the moderation route, which is harder than quitting, but it makes me know I could drink without harm. I am mostly choosing not to drink. The less I drink, the less I want to drink. Isn't that interesting because before, it was always the more I drank, the more I wanted to drink. This web site offers such an education. At least I recognize that, and I will keep hanging out here as long as I keep learning.
My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.
