    No golden ticket !

Hi everybody, have been bouncing about on this site for sometime now. Have tried several of the meds ans supps really just deluding myself that there is some "golden ticket" to me being able to drink in moderation and forgo all the trouble and hassel that drinking brings into my life ( would need my own site to list all the trouble and heart ache drinking has brought me over the last 30 years ) . Well two days ago come to the realisation that there is no golden ticket and that the only long term option to happiness in my life is to be AF. I am now on day three and trying to focus on all the things i can do / have in my life. Can walk run jump climb hills and mountains plan holidays to wonderful locations wear sexy underwear and lovely cloths, eat all the lovely food and non alcholic dronk out there and a million other great things that i can't quite think of at the momnet , the only thing i can't do is drink alcohol !!!!!! is that really so bad . Anybody up for a brain storming session ( tongue in cheek) of all the stuff us guys can have instead of focusing of the demon drink we are all trying to avoid ??? Thought , support and laughter welcome x

    Thanks all x

    No golden ticket !

Well done for making your decision to go AF daisy..........moderation is above me also.

Paddy posted yesterday that AF also stands for Absolute Freedom and it does.
I`m 58 days sober, and yes, I`ve discovered I can live without the booze.........leaving the booze behind allows you the freedom to "be all you can be".

Wishing you love and strength for your journey ahead.

        No golden ticket !

Hi Daisy-doo, I have found since being AF (10 days) that I'm not lacking anything in my life by having no alcohol in it. We pretty much do the same things as we did before but instead of having a glass in my hand it's more likely to be a mug of tea. Soooooo, to get to my point..... since there is no alcohol involved, there are no regrets, no hangovers, no poison in my system and more money in my wallet. There is also, as you mentioned, Absolute Freedom. Absolute Freedom to jump in the car and take the kids out after tea, freedom to answer the phone without sounding drunk, freedom to take the dog a walk in the evenings, waking in the mornings feeling good...

Having complete authority over your own life, ie not being ruled by alcohol, is very liberating! You don't have to plan when/where to buy your booze and still look respectable, or plan your next day so that you can avoid as many people as you can in case you stink of booze and look hungover...... yup, my quality of life has improved and I have a bigger choice on how to spend my time!

          No golden ticket !

Hi Daisy-Doo. I seem to be holding out for the golden ticket still. I read your list of things that can be done without alchohol. I had one AF day yesterday. Now I have myself convinced that I can do the moderation thing.....
Good for you for doing so well. Really? no golden ticket?:new:
          Hanging on!

            Hi Idb,

Good for you.....1 day AF! That is a big step! I encourage you to continue reading the boards, in particular the Research thread. There is no "Golden Ticket", no Mods after one day AF if sobriety is what you are wanting.

I encourage you to Read the book. Reading the book can really change the way we look at alcoholism or problem drinking and what is needed to get out of the clutches of this destroyer of lives.

            Good Luck and Welcome!
