      The future finally looks bright!

      welcome: :new:

" Being able to remember what my kids said the night before is priceless. Having them tell me "mom, I'm so proud of you", makes me very embarrassed, but at the same time I think they will listen to me when I tell them over and over again to not start drinking when they are adults because they may not be able to quit. I know that some of you may not agree with my thinking on that last statement, but I now believe that honesty is the best policy. Especially when dealing with teens."

Bruce Willis tells his kids that regularly...they have 'the gene'. So good for you.

        Thanks for the continued support

        Hi Friends!!

Thanks for all your support. My oldest daughter (she'll be 16 soon) had to recently write several essays for a selective camp over the summer that she is applying for. I hope she gets in, it's at UF. This particular essay topic was: Discuss an individual who has influenced you. What attributes of this person's intellect or character do you most admire? (Maximum 200 words). My copy and paste didn't work so please excuse any typos (her essay, of course was perfect):

"One individual that influences me is my mother. As common as this is among most adolescents, I am actually serious. Even though she plays the motherly role, she is also my friend. I can trust her with anything, and that will not change. She can help me work through my problems, school-related, and friend related. My friends think she is just "so cool", which sometimes makes me question why they think that, even though I know why. I am just glad I have this kind of relationship with my mother, unlike other kids.

I admire my mother in so many ways than I can express through words. However, I marvel the most at her ability to express her opinions without a worry; as she says "God gave you a mouth, use it." If you are not satisfied with something, just open your mouth and say it; do not bottle up your thoughts; make something happen. She is a phenomenal negotiator, and could probably persuade anyone. Her use of communication has brought her into many associations and she is well known amongst many people. I aspire to have her abilities as mentioned. "

Of course, this made me think a lot.

As I was making copies off her transcripts, application, essays, etc....I could not take my mind off of this one. This is what keeps me going. Any of you out there that wonder why you do what you do, I hope reading this helps (it took me forever to type it LOL!).

All I want is to be a non-drinking normal person. I do not know why I feel like I am continually being tested within my brain. And who is really "normal"?

Thank you all for your support. I posted the essay so I would know that I could look at it here without having to fight for a copy later. I did not want to brag or boast about anything. It petty much caught me off guard.

Thanks a million! You are all worth more than 10 times that !!!!!!!!!

Thanks a bunch for your story Voices,

Sometimes I question what I am doing and the way I am doing it, but then stories like yours pop up and reassure me I am doing the right thing and am at the right place.

Voices, I just found your post today. After a Sunday of drinking 12 beers and waking up feeling like s&%, this is just what I needed. Once again, I am starting over and your words provide me strength.

                Patty,
Your Avitar made my day!!! We are planning on going to Busch Gardens sometime this week. I hope the weather is storm-free. I won't be riding any roller coasters but it will be fun to watch.
