    The Anatomy of a BeerHound

I first tasted beer at the age of 7 or 8 & Loved it from the get-go. (my uncle's) Niether of my parents have ever had a drinking problem.
I was 15 the first time I got drunk. It was in a van full of friends on a roadtrip to "Grad Night 80" at King's Dominion amusement park in VA. All through high school my drinking was purely social, monthly keggers & get togethers.
The first time I started daily drinking, was at my first duty station Keflavik Iceland. I was literally drunk everyday for two years.
I married my first husband, (not a heavy drinker), three months before transferring back to the states. After transferring back to the states, I returned to a way of moderation - drinking only at social get togethers & on special occassions. We divorced a year later.
Met my 2nd husband, (father of both my children), heavy drinker & we went out, threw parties & got drunk at least 4 nights a week. I abstained completely for both pregnancies, but drank socially in between. After we divorced, (1996), I was a little overwhelmed by single-parenthood & decided to abstain completely again. There was just no time, place or money for it.
Because of his sea/shore rotation schedule & his desire to equally share in thier raising; we agreed on an alternating 3yr each custody period agreement. His first 3yrs commenced in the Spring of 2000 & I have been drinking daily since.
In 2003 we ammended the agreement, as my daughter wanted to stay on the west coast & my son wanted to live with me.
At the same time, I was going through a rather painful breakup with my now ex-girlfriend. She has since moved back up north & I have been dating w/several semi-serious relationships over the past four years; but nothing that proved to be long-term.
I was arrested for DUI, first offense misdemeanor, last June. But even that wasn't enough to immediately motivate me to make a change. Surprising, since I was employed at the time as a commercial driver. (a job I really loved) My company has since placed me in a non-driving position. I am lucky they didn't fire me!
I discovered & bought RJ's book last September, but didn't start reading it until a week or so before Christmas.

    Update:

After finishing the book, I ordered all the supps online. I got the brands, potencies & dosages outlined in the book. I didn't venture here until later, but then ordered all the suggested updates.
I began taking them Monday morning, January 14th, (a day off for me). I did so without any promises to myself, or plans to attempt being AF; but my goal was to return to a way of moderation.
After buying all the supps, I could not afford the hypno-cds. So I have been using a recorded copy of Pema Chodrun's "Comfortable With Uncertainty, 108 Teachings" that I already had. So far that seems to be working well for me.
I do not intend to take any meds, as I have always avoided meds of any kind - even pain killers.
I did the math & prior to starting my version of MWO, I typically drank between 65 - 75 light beers every week.
    So far....

Day 1: started drinking at noon, 10 beers total for the day (would normally be 12 - 18, on a day off)
Day 2: got home from work @ 9pm, drank two beers & was in bed by midnight (norm, 6 - 8 & up until 2am)
Day 3: same as day 2
Day 4: blew the engine on my truck, on the way home from work. got home @ 9:30pm, drank one beer & was in bed by 11pm
Day 5: started drinking @ 3pm, (had to call out of work, due to dead truck), drank 6 beers & in bed by 11pm
Day 6: had to call out again. went truck shopping & bought new-to-me truck. started drinking @ 4pm, 8 beers & up until 1am
Day 7: (day off) started drinking @ noon. alternated beer w/juice, sweet tea & water. drank 6 beers & in bed by 11pm
This week has been the same so far. I've been drinking one or two beers on work nights & getting to bed by midnight. When I do the shopping on Saturday, I will be switching to St Pauli NA.

    drum roll please.......
so far I have cut my drinking in half, w/minimal to no craving! WooHooo!
I am very encouraged & do not miss the hangovers one bit!

    Nice to meet you all.
    Peace!

MouseFl - good for you. Those are some great results. I don't follow the program. I want to order some of the supps soon though. I too drank about 40-60 (sometimes more) light beers a week for years and the non-alcohol beer really did the trick for me.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

MouseFL, good work. I have similar beer issues. Hopefully I will be brave enough to post my story later...maybe even today.
