    trying to ween myself off

I am an alcaholic. I admit it. I'm just trying to figure out how to get off the juice without
putting myself through hell. I am currently trying to ween myself off of it by only drinking
enough to stop the shaking. Any advice is welcome. I am not in the financial position to
    go through rehab.

    Zane ~ welcome.

There is a lot of support and inspiration here. Please read a lot of the older posts. It reall can help.

If you are suffering serious withdrawals, you may need to seek medical help. Maybe just a regular MD can give you something without you having to go to rehab.

One thing that does help is a ton of water. You really need to flush the poison out of your system as soon as possible. When you are sick of all the water, then it's time to drink MORE WATER! It really helps to subside the withdrawals for a number of reasons.

Alcohol dehydrates you. Dehydration causes headaches, shakes, sickness and fatigue. The best cure for it is water.

    Are you taking any supplements?

Best of luck to you. We are here for you.

      Thanks Thankful!

I will try the water. I am seriousely considering going to the doctor. I hear there is medication that will stop the cravings. I don't know if that stops the shakes or simply stops
your phsycological desire. I saw your post about your health issue. I hope you get better.
I currently consume 2 big bottles of Vodka a week. Those are the 1.75 liter bottles.
Keep your head up and your powder dry.

You can get supplements for the cravings without going to the doctor. You can order stuff from here (link at the top of the page that says Health Store) or you can go to a local health store in your area.

Many people here take Kudzu and L-Glutamine to help with cravings. Also, fruit juice helps a great deal because when you get AF (alcohol free) for a few days the cravings are not always for alcohol. A lot of cravings are for sugar simply because alcohol turns to sugar in our bodies. I find that the fruit juice mixed with club soda is delicious and helps with cravings. You can drink a couple of these in between all that water. Herbal teas also help calm your nerves.

By the way, I am feeling better. Thank you. I was just complaining earlier cause of the sky high medical bill! The bill made me sicker than the original ailment! lol

Hang tough! You can do this.

          Good to hear!

I am glad to hear your health is not as bad as I thought. They can't sqeeze blood out of a
turnip. I am thinking about taking some candy with me when I get the shakes. I know when I get off of it for more than three weeks I can stay off it. I had this problem five years
ago. I was more motivated to get off it because I was a truck driver. I have never had a
drunk driving arrest. I knew I could not drive a truck and be an alcaholic. I was in desporation. I got off the juice by sure will power. My mistake was that I thought I could toy around with it again. I am no longer driving a truck. I am in college to become a proffessional chef. All of the classes are easy except college algebra. Vodka and Algebra
don't mix. I got out of truck driving because I had an accident. No, I was not fired. It is a law that when a truck driver gets in an accident he must have a drug and alcahol test. I tested 00.00. I was so rattled by the accident that I decided I wanted a new profession. No
one was hurt or killed thankfully. I was just so stressed that I wanted out. I had done that job for 12 years. I have been living off my savings to put myself through college.

detox can be serious for some people. i would go to a physician and see what they have to say if you are worried about shaking a lot. not everyone has to go to rehab. get a check up and see what they say.

Im new here... so here goes

              :welcome: Hi Zane,

I would say have a look at supplements too, as this can go a long way into helping you recover, there are so many out their but here is a list of stuff that i have been researching for my own use.. Lecithin, L-Glutamine, GABA, 5-HTP, i would recommend you try the L-Glutamine and Kudzu root, you also need a good Vit.B complex, i also take Milk Thistle which helps the liver.. some of the other stuff i have mentioned are mood enhancers as well but if you do a little research you can see which suits you the most, good luck and take care

                Hello Zane,

In case you haven't noticed you are already in hell drinking 2 big bottles a week and quitting will be pure heaven compared to that! I was there myself 70 days ago and will do everything in my power to never ever put myself through that nightmare again.

I'm not breaking any new ground telling you it is not easy to stay sober. Stopping is relatively easy but dealing with the cravings, desires, twisted emotions is very hard. First and foremost, letting you doctor know what you want to do is a very important thing to do.

I too was very worried about withdrawal, the first few days can be dicey but then some really amazing things start to happen. I can't stress it enough - get rid of the booze and I found it crucial to stay busy doing anything but sitting still to keep your mind off the booze.

I found Valerian Root helped smooth out the cravings and relaxed me enough to get through the evening and weekends. Just embrace the little victories as they come like coming here and taking this on to start. Good luck and I hope to hear many good things from you!
