:new:Hi. I tried to post something but I think I put it on the wrong thread. Anyway, here's a little about me. I was also molested by family members as a child. My mother didn't believe me, so by the time I was 8 I had learned how to avoid the situations. My drinking didn't become a problem until I was in my 40's. This may be my last chance to save my health, my marriage, my family and my life. I've been married 38 years to the only man on earth who would have put up with me through this. I'm no longer able to work because of medical problems, and I drank more and more to make the pain go away. Instead, I got hooked, ending up drink all day most days. I was arrested for DUI, humiliating myself and family. Because of my bone disease and drinking, I've broken 16 bones in the last 4 years. I went to rehab, but a few months later I started again. Depression, heart problems, chronic pain, etc.-I just felt better drunk. I'm scared, excited, anxious - this HAS to work. I need people to talk to who know what I need. I'm home alone most of the time, my friends all work, and besides I can't talk to them about this. So, I'll be reading everyday & I'll update you, for better or worse. I've ordered a start up kit and CD's. I'd love any advice. Thanks, RW

    RubyWillow,

    :welcome:

I am glad you got the starter kit, cds and hopefully the book, too. The supplements are amazing in how much they do help. Although, it still takes determination. I am sure you know that though, having been through rehab once.

I blew it after rehab, too. I completely understand.

Drinking sure does isolate us, doesn't it? I feel the same way about it.

We will all be glad to help you in anyway we can!!

    Strength to you,
    Cindi

Welcome Rubywillow, I got the start up kit, that included everything, followed the program and am 47 Days AF. Sounds like you have the mindset to get this started! My question to you is, are you drinking quite a bit now? Just wondering if you may need to speak to a Dr. in regards to handling withdrawl. Drink lots of lemon water, it is a good cleanser. Keep reading and posting, stick close this site will also give you great strength. Hope this mwo will truly be your own way out to peace and rest for your body. Sounds like you have a good man at your side.

          Thanks, mw02,
I WAS drinking heavily but have slowly weaned myself down to 3 drinks a day and holding. I hope when I get all my supplies to get rid of them too. I didn't believe I could do it, and it's not easy, but so far so good. I have quick access to medical help in my family if I need it. Thanks again.

You are off to a good start with the Cd's etc... I know what it's like to be home alone all the time as that is my case also. That is where this site comes in. You can come here anytime you like and vent or just read what's happening with others. It really does help and you will find lots of friends here who feel your pain and will give you some really good advice. I hope you are feeling better soon and a great big :welcome: to you!

            Best wishes,

              Thanks All

I'm so happy to have all to talk to! I alreasy feel better since cutting back so drastically on the AL. Here's my problem - we're leaving Sunday for 10 days in FL with my husband's company. Since he spends millions each year all the salespeople want to wine and dine us, and it's been ugly the last few years. I'll try to access you all while I'm there, but have to find new ways to keep myself busy. I don't care for the beach and the heat, so I'm been researching tourist spots around. I can actually ddrive to them this year! Anyway, cross your fingers for me. I'll check in as soon as I'm back and report how it went. It's terrible when my husband and both dread a long, all-expense-paid vacation at the beach, but there are bad memories there. Any suggestions? CJ

Ruby, you are on the right track, I think... stay busy! Go places you have never been before! And take your time, do it slowly and with a lot of attention to the details of what you are seeing and feeling and hearing...

                    Hi Rubywillow....
I really hope that you can find what you need to have some happiness.
I drank because I love it.
I love the buzz; the tension just seems to melt away with the first gulp. ( I was going to say 'sip' but who am I kidding) The problem is I don't know when to stop. I'll drink until I pass out or run out. How many times have I woken with busted knuckles and reproachful looks from people I care about and not known why.
Since finding this place, I have become a different person. The program and the wonderful people here have helped me immensely. I am not where I want to be drink-wise, but I'm a million miles from the loser I was.
Again, I hope you find what you need.
                    Best wishes.

                      Welcome Ruby!

Just wanted to offer a few thoughts as I travel with my husband often too on business and understand your plight. Florida has lots of history... not sure where you will be, but maybe you could "google" ahead of time and find some places of interest to visit and keep your mind occupied? Its a lot of fun... I've gone on some fun ventures! Also, think about a special journal for your trip. Just a little notebook, or a file in Microsoft Word if you have a computer. Do a lot of soul searching while away... it can be a good thing!

                      Best of luck to you!

I'm back, guys, and it was great! MOD RULES! I was in control- no drinks, 1, up to 3 and I SLAMMED the door. I learned stuff, since I was all there, watched other drink and act stupid, enjoyed my husband on our 38th anniversary, ate seafood, spent the best quality time with my sister (who joined us for a free vac. and helped me since I have mobility problems). We haven't spent that much time together in 25 years, and we talked about everything. I learned my brother, who has been very judgmental of me for years, is a problem drinker - i.e., can't stop after one. He's too proud to admit he has a problem, and unlike how he has been to me, I won't judge him because of it. I just hope he asks me how I changed, and I'll send him here.
Thanks for your support. Just knowing you were all here made all the difference. I know there will be tests ahead, but I have 1 success under my belt, and I can face the future.

                            RubyWillow,

:welcome: Back and so glad you had a wonderful time on your trip. You were so dreading it and it worked out great!!

Keep up the good work. :goodjob:

Are you going to try to stay mod or are you shooting for AF?

There are people here doing both.

                            Again, glad to see you,

Cindi, Mod's working great now, but I believe AF could be in my future. I've seen such a bizarre difference in the overdrinkers, the mods, and the af's this last week, since a lot of the salespeople I met were quite pickled when my husband introduced me to them. He tried to steer clear of most of them but if they saw him and zeroed in he had no choice. I told him it was better for me to see what I used to look like. Also, my sister drank quite a bit while she was with me, and she didn't realize she got loud. I noticed she got some looks, and it's awful, but I was so glad I wasn't getting them. I have lot's of work to do - the battle's not won yet. I'll let you all know when I face each one, since you are my sounding board now.
