    Today I start

    :new:
I just hit rock bottom last night. I am a professional woman with a great job and a family. Over the last few years I continued to drimk more and more - lately even in the morning to make the shakes go away ----My husband had no idea until he found my vodka bottle in the dresser...He likes to drink as well. Last night after many glasses of wine I collapsed in the kitchen. My family thought I had a stroke. I feel very ashamed of myself..

Have you had a look at the book yet or do you have a plan for yourself? There are lots of tools about to help you. I found one of the most important is to keep reading and posting here, it gives much strength for those times when it gets tough..also the supplements have been a godsend to me..

Popcorn: You've come to the right place. I haven't been perfect throughout my 1.5 years that I've been a member here, but I've improved tremendouly. I'm going to make 2009 completely sober & have a great start on it. We can do this together. Mary

                        Today I start

Hi Popcorn and welcome. The road to getting alcohol free is not an easy one, but it is incredibly rewarding, at least that's my opinion of my alcohol free life. The hardest part is just getting started.

The place to start is to realize that the solution is really simple. Each time you think of drinking, choose not to. To me, nothing is worth drinking over any more. My sobriety is THE most important thing in my life because my enjoyment of every other important thing in my life (husband, family, business, friends, etc. etc.) depends on me staying sober.

It's not easy to make the choice not to drink each and every time. The good news is that there are tools to help. Have you checked out the supplements and CD's that MWO recommends and sells? Exercise is vital to my own recovery program along with a sugar and gluten free diet. Others have other weapons that help them consistently make the choice to not drink.

This is my first alcohol free holiday since my late teen years, and I'm 50. I can say with certainty that the holidays are MUCH better for me without alcohol to be a problem and ruin things and make situations more difficult.

YOU CAN DO THIS. If I can do it, I know you can do it too. I used to start drinking as early as 6AM, EVERY DAY. I stopped taking days off many many years ago. YOU CAN STOP TOO.

                        Best wishes to you!

                        DG

                          Today I start

I think this time of year is the most difficult to stop drinking. There is booze everywhere! Look at all of those damn TV commercials or those very pretty displays of alcohol in stores.

Not to mention a lot of vacations are taken this time of the year, such as the one you are going on.

Collapsing in the kitchen is a HUGE red flag that you may want to lay off the alcohol for a while. What could be next? You have children right? Oh, yes, I see that you do now.

I have been where you are. A professional, with children and my drinking got so bad I had to drink a couple of drinks in the morning just to get to work. God, I don't miss those days AT ALL!

If anything, can you find the strength within yourself to at least not overindulge/binge?

I would suggest not drinking at all seeing it really is taking it's toll on your health and other areas in your life. Rock bottom is truly Hell.

Keep checking in and hopefully you will find some tools and find the support to help yourself.

                          Happy Holidays!

Thanks guys - I had a spiral since I last posted - Christmas day I was drunk and pretty much everyday after - However last Monday I hit rock bottom - I bought 2 bottles of vodka and drank them on my way home - how sick is that. My husband confronted me at home and after trying to get me committed I have not had a drink since. I am taking it a day at a time
