Hi Cess,
Welcome! You are in good company. I am also 55, had fallen into a pattern same as yours and decided it was time to stop!! I had begun to really miss my old self and totally disliked the person I had become. I knew it was time for a change especially after the birth of our first grandchild 4 months ago. I was afraid to go near him and hated myself for that. So yes, I had a special motivating factor to take control, get a grip.
Not sure how i was going to go about it I started doing a lot of research & reading. I had been on an Rx for anxiety/depression and realized it really wasn't working. I dumped the Rx and found a good herbal supplement for the same. It took a while but once it kicked in I was able to take the next step - make the commitment to quit drinking. I read a lot about changing bad habits, ridding myself of negative thinking, etc. and found MWO. What a blessing. I am now over 3 weeks AF and haven't felt this great or been happier in years
Cess, you need to examine your feelings and reasons for wanting to quit. Do whatever works best for you. Some people do well with AA or personal counseling. I needed to do this on my own in my own way.
Whatever you decide, just trust that you can do it! Make your plan and stick to it. You will be amazed how wonderful and proud you feel each and every day you succeed. You are worth it!!
All the best,
Lavande
