    My Story-where do I start?

Just joined today & don't know where to start?

Am terrified that I have already damaged my liver beyond hope. I'm female & have been drinking VERY heavily for over 20 years now. I also used to takes lots of medications, usually in conjunction with alcohol, that damage your liver such as what I later learned was tylenol w/ codeine dr gave me for chronic pain I used to have; ibuprofen, tons others. My chronic pain thankfully has gone away

First got concerned about 2 yrs ago; an ultrasound showed I have some fatty liver (I think it was mild). My enzymes were ok though. (Once, about a yr prior they were a bit high).

Had over 2 bottles of wine last night by myself & woke up hating self.

I noticed this site b/c of the upper rt quad dull pain thread- I have had this for over a year now- have been diagnosed with gastritis & wonder if this could be cause or if it's my liver

I'll be good at not drinking at all for a while (longest was 30 days which I have done 2x) but then almost always overdrink when I do. I want to be able to drink a safe amount & be happy. I have a wonderful family, am otherwise healthy & hate that I think about alcohol so much! I'm scared & not sure how to start.:new:

    My Story-where do I start?

    Hi there Magggie
Well done on taking that huge first step of asking for a bit of help. Thats not easy...
I think most of us can relate to your feelings of over drinking even when we intend not to and that obsession with alcohol.
Have you read the book My Way Out? That might be a good start. It will give you some tips on how to begin and might help you get a plan together?
Also the tool box thread is full of good ideas and inspiration - https://www.mywayout.org/community/f1...box-27556.html
Keep reading and posting, it will help keep you motivated to change.
    Best wishes...

            My Story-where do I start?

Hi Maggie,,,welcome,,I'm glad your here. Our stories are very similar. I have found reading the posts and staying close to this website during the tough hours will help you immensely. Yes, this is an addiction, but I do believe it;s a really bad habit too! 5:00 hits and out comes a few drinks. So now, 5:00 hits and out comes my laptop! Or take a walk,,or whatever. You've done this before so you know you can do it again. I'm very worried about my liver as well...had an elevated liver enzyme blood test result and an ultrasound today. It will take a few days to hear from my Dr.,,,so in the meantime I'm worrying, hoping and praying I haven't done anything that is not reversible. Like you, been drinking heavily for 20 years now...time to stop and take care of myself so I can be here for my kids' futures....Good luck and take care of yourself..
Every day is not 100%, however, it is 100% better than my best day of drinking..
